I just ordered my first meal at the Jin Ye and it won't be my last! I had wonton soup, kung pao beef, and green beans in black bean sauce. Everything is fresh, cooked to order, with vegetables cooked al dente. I took my order home and enjoyed a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and my wonderful dinner within half an hour. I've been going to this restaurant a few times a year for a number of years. The food has always been good average Chinese food and not expensive. However, the take out I bought a few days ago left me feeling as if I had just eaten food with too much MSG. Too much MSG used to be a big issue with restaurants, but with people opting for a healthier diet they mostly cut back. I can't say for certain that Jin Ye is using large amounts of MSG again, but it tasted that way to this customer. (For those of you who don't know what the effect of too much MSG is, it's like drinking too much black tea that makes you a little spacey and jittery coupled with a dry sensation in the mouth. I had their seafood clay pot and house chow fun last night and they were delicious. 5 spice ribs are a curiosity as they look like grey chalk-like rocks. The fried tofu was tasty. Beef with mushrooms was hearty. House won ton soup was a meal. Not a fan of their sweet and sour pork though, large balloon-like batter covered the pork snuffing out any possibility of the limited sauce to bail the dish out. Broccoli beef was fresh. I haven't come to a conclusion yet about the Eggplant in garlic sauce which either had too large stalks of eggplant or too weak a sauce than I am used to, a shame because it is a slam dunk almost anywhere else. read more

I was hoping when they revamped the menu that they would perhaps have more vegetarian options. Nope. In fact there were less. I decided to try the broccoli with hoisin sauce since that is a new offering. Very disappointing and lacking in flavor. It's a shame. I was excited for the new opening. I loved Little China as I did the *original* Red Pepper a decade ago, but though the place looks wonderful... It took well over an hour to get our food. And I had to ask about it. When we got home with the food, it was not as hot (warm) as in the past. Also, our order was messed up (one item was not what we ordered). The food was okay, but not as good as with Little China. Worse, my friend got sick from the Chow Faan. I'm not thrilled with the new recipes. They were pretty busy, and had more people on staff than I'd ever seen, but they seemed overwhelmed. Jin Ye, I miss Little China. read more

This used to be a great place to get cheap but tasty food. Nothing fancy but often just what I needed for a quick after work dinner. Now the restaurant reopened after a remodel and the food is about 20-30 percent more expensive, no complimentary tea either. My favorite dish isn't on the menu anymore. If any Chinese food restaurant gets a 5 start this one gets 5 stars times 5 it's the best Chinese food you will ever have. The sweet and sour chicken is crispy not soggy like some restaurants. Our kids love this place my husband will drive us from Berkeley every time on a Sunday to eat there all the way in point Richmond. They are amazing the food even the people they are genuinely kind hearted people who serve with a smile and a nice attitude. Also it's beautiful when you walk in really modern and updated. I've ordered from here before more than once & I really like the food. Never had a problem before. Tonight I ordered through DoorDash. My daughter decided she wanted some too after I ordered and I placed a second order. Around 6pm I got an email from DD saying my first order was cancelled because the restaurant was not taking orders/they could not be reached. I thought it was odd they would fill the second order and not the first especially since it was only 6pm and they close at 930pm! I called and explained I had 2 orders and she even read back to me my first order so I know they got it! I explained it was all going to the same address. She acknowledged that & I figured everything was fine. An hour later food comes but only the second order. I call back and ask if the other order is on the way. She said no. She said she told whomever ..the manager or kitchen that I had 2 orders but they said NO..I only had one. She said she told them more than once but they basically refused to make it! I asked if I had to reorder and she asked me for my address..bear in mind they just delivered to my house 5 minutes prior. Its only 7 pm and she says..no we don't deliver there. HELLO!? Am I taking crazy pills? They JUST delivered to my house! And the first order was more than the second one! Do they not want to make money?! So as much as I liked the food their customer service SUCKS! I have complained to DD and so far have not been charged for the first LARGER order. I was a regular customer but not anymore. You guys suck. Now I have to wait another hour for a different place to deliver and my kid is hungry. FYI I have arthritis so I can't just whip up dinner on my own. Today is Chinese New Year. I came here tonight to get my Chinese food fix in since I didn't have time to cook it. First of all, they're really nice people when greeted at the door. And I gotta day, their food is BOMB. What my boyfriend and I had tonight was the fried tofu, wor wonton soup, house chow faan, beef chow fun, honey walnut prawns, orange chicken, and string beans with black bean sauce. Honestly, everything was great. We ordered a lot so we can try different things. My boyfriend LOVES orange chicken (I'm not a big fan lol. I think it's an American thing..? Haha jkay). Anyways. He said it tastes reaaaaally good compared to a lot of places. He even said it's better than this one Chinese restaurant that was his favorite. I did try it and it was crispy and then tender when you bite it. And the sauce was perfect I must say. Same thing with the fried tofu, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Also the sauce tastes really good with it too. The beef chow fun wasn't super oily like a lot of other places. And the noodles were fresh!! (It has to be or else it won't taste good) It was ON POINT. Definitely should get that. House chow faan is basically combination fried rice. And it was good because it wasn't super salty. The string beans were super delish and the sauce wasn't over powering. Everything was amazing. Great experience here. I wish I could try more! I will come back here for sure. I did compare their food to other places because other Chinese restaurants use a lot of sodium and they don't seem to do so here. It feels a lot lighter if that makes sense. Anyways! I'm very unhappy with my visit. I disliked the food. And when I told the waitress that she would take the food off the bill and let me return it. This is very unprofessional. Why would you make some one pay for something they aren't eating. And her reason was "well you ordered it ". I wouldn't have ordered it if I knew it was nasty. The sauce was too watery.
