Portion size is definitely not an issue at this convenient Chinese eatery in Point Richmond, but there's some oomph factor that seemed to be missing from their food. It was not that they do anything wrong per se...it just somehow missed the mark on providing culinary satisfaction for me. Too bad because the restaurant itself was a nice space - compact, sleek, and minimalist. Granted I have yet to dine here, my review relates to my takeout experiences, and what happened once I opened the cardboard boxes. The $12 Beef Chow Fun had the requisite thick noodles but seemed a bit light on the meat (photo: https://yelp.to/4Wtu7f7z4O). The $15 Eggplant in Garlic Sauce was quite heavy on the sauce, and the eggplant absorbed the oil fully (photo: https://yelp.to/5wYVsJ798o). On a subsequent trip, I went for the $14 Quarter Roast Duck which had a nice crispy skin, but unfortunately it was overcooked with the duck meat a lot drier than I was hoping (photo: https://yelp.to/XEz49bHoR9). The $11.50 House Fried Rice was likely the best dish I've had with calamari and shrimp mixed with a lot of chopped vegetables in an abundance of fried rice (photo: https://yelp.to/iV2kC0_KIl). FOOD - 3 stars...definitely a motley mix with none hit out of the ballpark AMBIANCE - n/a...not that relevant in my case SERVICE - 4 stars...they toil pretty hard here TOTAL - 3 stars...just not my favorite...sorry RELATED - Exploring Richmond? I randomly stumble upon this Chinese restaurants after a long hike around Sausalito. This hidden gem is located in the little downtown area of Point Richmond. My first impression of Jin Ye is the decor inside doesn't really match the cuisine. Don't get me wrong, it's really modern and nice but I thought it was more suitable for a Japanese restaurant. Regardless of the decor mismatch I still thought the food was delicious and the service was outstanding. We ordered the honey walnut prawns, sesame chicken and beef chow fun. Out of the three I personally like the beef chow fun the most. The noodles were perfectly cooked and everything was seasoned very well. I would definitely order that dish again. The honey walnut prawns and sesame chicken were very tasty as well. The only thing I will gripe about those two items is the thickness of the batter especially for the prawns. The ratio of the batter and meat can be portioned a little better. Other than that I had a nice meal here in this quiet little downtown area. There were people coming in and out on this Saturday evening but not a lot of dine ins. Most people came in for takeout so there was no wait for a table for two.

I've been looking for a good Chinese food spot in Richmond, and this is it! The sesame chicken is amazing, so are the walnut shrimp. So good

I am so bummed out. I was hoping for some good Chinese food and this was not it. I had a few bites and the taste is just not good. By far the worst garlic eggplant I've ever had. Also the egg roll was super soggy. It wasn't tasty. Then just having it be delivered I was surprised how soggy this thing was. The whole lunch as BUST!

My colleagues and I love going here. In this economy it is difficult to find quality food with the price they offer. Lunch on weekdays come with soup and spring roll on cabbage shreds. Thanks for the lovely and fast service. Hot tea and hot water is also available. The restaurant is really cozy and clean.

    Hygienic (not!) mayo

Take a look at the pics I attached here of mayonnaise being out in the hot kitchen for hours. I sat here ordering my lunch, watching the chefs dump mayo into everything. At one point I saw a diff person, not pictured, scoop it out with their hands after touching raw meat. Immediately thereafter, my lunch "salad" and "soup" and tiny "fried roll" arrived. The salad was a dole lettuce mix, that seemed to be old, limp and lifeless. The dressing was straight up...Peanut Butter and Mayo!!!!! You could see the mayo. Wtf. I pushed it away. The soup had a salty frozen smell. Like it was microwaved from a mix. It's like the instant Ramen soups you see at discount grocers. It tasted bitter and artifical. ALSO the dishware smelled like their dishwasher needs to be cleaned. Lastly, the roll was clearly a frozen roll they tried to fry. When I cut it in half, I noticed it was not cooked in the middle and ice cold. This place is dirty, lacks hygiene and cooking standards. If you eat here, after reading this and the other legit reviews (that aren't coaxed by the owner), you deserve the trip to the doctor for stomach pains. I left when I saw what my appetizers were like. Declined the main. And walked out.

Enter China Delights. This was our first time here and while it wasn't my beloved whole rock cod, their fried whole flounder with a soy based sauce was good enough to stand in its place. The fish was fried crispy enough that you could eat the fins while the flesh remained tender and moist. The sauce wasn't too bad either. I enjoyed that fish so much that I probably could have eaten the entire thing by myself without an ounce of shame. And then our waitress gave me the information I needed to hear: if I want whole rock cod, call the day before to let them know we're coming and they'll have it ready. HUGE WIN! You don't have to tell me twice. Another thing I was happy to see was a variety of mu shu options on the menu. We went with the pork and were not disappointed. And bc my husband had his own craving that needed to be handled, we ordered the half roasted duck. And that wasn't too bad either. The staff tonight were warm and attentive. Not once did we feel unattended to, but we also never felt rushed. Sometimes that balance gets lost and they did it well tonight. So is it possible that we may have stumbled onto the promise of a new family go to spot? Possibly. They've apparently been open for over 20 years already, and I hope they stay open for another 20 bc finding an old-school Chinese restaurant that still serves some of these classic dishes is getting harder and harder. Now I just need to remember to call the day before bc that whole rock cod and I have some unfinished business.

I love that the restaurant is spacious and that there's an essence of coziness to the space. The service here is decent -- there have been multiple times where my party has had to ask for things because food or drinks were coming out too slow or were forgotten. There's definitely room for improvement in that arena. Food is delicious here, and I particularly love the sweet and sour pork! House fried rice and beef broccoli here is also amazing. Although I've had better honey walnut prawns, the ones here are still good (just pricey considering I prefer other places over it). Portion sizes are huge, even for sharing among 3-4 people. I recommend eating here with a fairly large group - you get your best deal when sharing the cost (and eating) together.
