If you're considering this service, you're probably aware that "sitting the month" is usually done for a new Chinese mother by her mother. Except my mom passed away a few years ago, so I didn't really have anyone to help me for that whole month. A friend told me about Jing Mommy, and I figured the service could help! After trying a few sample meals, I got the classic meal plan and all of the meals were delicious as well as healthy. Even the kidney soup was good! (Although I got sick of eating the kidney itself...) You'll get pork liver soup varieties for a week, and then pork kidney soup varieties for another week. It's A TON of soup! I have no doubt that the food is authentic--pulling bones out of my soup brought me straight back to my childhood, folding magazine pages into baskets so we could have somewhere to stick all the bones we pulled out of our food, haha. (Seriously, you're getting sea bass soup at every lunch, you're going to be pulling out a lot of bones...) Also, there's sometimes shrimp in the "vegetable" dish, which tracks with how Chinese food just sometimes is! I live in San Francisco, and Jing Mommy had no issues shipping the meals to me FedEx overnight. It came every week before noon in a 75-lb box with food items still frozen solid, so be ready! If you're going to go this route, I DEFINITELY recommend having a chest freezer. We bought a 3.5-cubic-ft freezer and only 6 out of the 7 bags in each weekly shipment fit in it. We had to put the last bag in our regular freezer. The salesperson Patricia was extremely responsive over text, and adjusted the shipping days when I did have a few relatives come over to cook for a few days. (Yes, even after I told them I had a postpartum meal plan...you know how Asian relatives are, you're always going to get food whether you like it or not!) Be aware that Jing Mommy only ships Monday through Thursday, so you can only get your weekly allotment Tuesday through Friday if you have it shipped. I'm on my very last meal with Jing Mommy right now and I'm going to miss not having to think about what I'll eat! I've been obsessively looking up freezer meals to use that chest freezer for. But I have no doubt that having a month of healthy postpartum meals prepared for me set me on the right path for new motherhood. I'm recovering well after a complicated delivery, and I'm breastfeeding well too. Definitely worth it! I waited until the very last day to post my experience with Jing Mommy. Overall - it delivered what it promised. Balanced, nutritional meals - without the worries of planning and cooking. The menu had enough rotating options - plenty of soups (kept me hydrated and ensured lots of breast milk for the baby) and veggies (Regular #2). It wasn't perfect though. There were some major hiccups along the way. Orders were mixed up (I received another mommy's bag). When I notified the rep, she didn't communicate well with the driver - he picked up the incorrect bag from my house but in return left me with nothing. When I contacted the rep again, I was told the driver had to fetch my bag back from another mommy's house and to pray that she didn't eat any of the items yet. I basically had to cry and ultimately put my husband on the phone to talk to Patricia. In the end, we had to fight for a brand new bag to be put together to ensure nothing was half eaten. Unnecessary stressor. The day before my last delivery date, I received a text from the rep stating that we didn't return all the thermo bags. Didn't specify when or how many - just "a few". Fortunately we have a Ring camera and could easily prove our case. When I told the rep that I can easily present the evidence, she responded that she will check with the driver. In the end, she never got back to me. Shouldn't the rep had checked with the driver first before harassing the client for missing bags?! Again, another unnecessary stressor. Food was fine. I was shopping around postpartum meal as that is a Chinese tradition. I decided to get Jing Mommy postpartum meal because there were two friends recommended Jing Mommy to me. My both friends told me to contact Patricia from Jing Mommy because she did an excellent job of taking care of them. So I contacted Patricia. She was every professional and explained the food to me. She asked me what stage I was after deliver the baby. If I just delivered the baby or if I'm a week or two weeks after delivering the baby. So she can help me to decide which combo I should get for my speedy recovery. Patricia was on top of everything. She checked in with me everyday. I am meat eater and I breast feeding my baby so I wanted more protein. She talked to her kitchen and provided my needs. Then I wanted more desert and carbs. She changed for me again. She was so kind and so helpful and made sure that I would eat what I wanted. After 6 weeks postpartum meal. I wanted to continue have their food. BECAUSE OF PATRICIA, so I stayed with Jing Mommy even though their food is not very variable. I KNOW PATRICA WOULD TAKE GOOD CARE OF ME FOR MY FOOD. So after 3 months, I still order food from them. I unexpectedly delivered my baby early at 35 weeks during covid, with no extra help lined up. Needless to say, I was completely overwhelmed and unprepared to begin parenthood. Luckily, I had done some research about postpartum meals and had mentioned this one to my parents. They took care of the communication with Jing Mommy and bought me the month long meal plan as a gift. There are a few things that would have been very helpful to know and would have sold me sooner, but aren't specified on their website (at least not on the English one): 1. You can order for just a few days to try before committing to the whole month. I ordered 4 days as a trial. The per day price is more expensive than the monthly price per day, but it doesn't commit you to the full 30 days. I live in Santa Monica, which they deliver to every other day, so 4 days was 2 deliveries. The price for the meals & delivery wasn't cheap, but was worth the price to be able to try before committing. If you do choose to order the full 30 day plan, they pro-rate the remaining days so you didn't pay extra for the trial days. 2. The postpartum meal plan is 30 days long. I don't know whether they have other options, but this is the standard duration. You don't have to get the meals for 30 consecutive days. Depending on how they deliver to your area, you can customize around your delivery option. For example, I would order 6 days of meal (three times, every other day delivery) and then skip a delivery so that I could get a break and eat some other food. I think I customized the deliveries so that I received 30 days of meals over the span of 38 or 40 days. The food is packaged very well, I was impressed when I received my first few deliveries. For local delivery (Los Angeles area), each day's meals are packed in clear plastic containers and placed in a cardboard box. For breakfast, there was always a porridge and a scrambled egg dish. For lunch, there was always rice, fish soup, an entree, two "vegetable" dishes, and a dessert. Dinner varied based on how far along the postpartum journey you are - week 1, week 2, week 3, and week 4 had some slight variation. Generally, it included one recovery soup (week 1 - pork liver, week 2 - pork kidney, or week 3/4 - sesame chicken). It would also include another soup, like you might have eating Chinese dinner at home (week 4 had two soups). There would also be rice, two "vegetable" dishes, and a dessert. The food would still be warm when it arrived, and I would eat the first meal immediately after delivery and refrigerate the rest. I grew up eating Chinese food every day at home, so I'm already used to these flavors and dishes. It was really nice that the meals are so well balanced. I heard that some people found the quantity to be really large. If you're eating the meals alone, I would say there is too much food. We had two adults eating the meals, and I would describe the quantity as almost enough (more than 1.5, but less than 2 adult servings). We would normally just eat something unrelated on the side. The food is fresh, not greasy, and not too salty. It felt like home cooked food to me. One thing I would suggest is that Jing Mommy make their English website more informative. Maybe include more details, more options, and an easier way to get the pricing. I emailed them initially to get the pricing, but my parents were able to get much more detailed information on the meals and pricing by speaking to them in Chinese over the phone. We spoke to Miya when asking questions, placing the order and making customizations, and I found her to be very responsive and helpful. This is a really long review, so I hope it's helpful for someone! I took pictures of some of the meals as well, so I will try to post those when I get a chance. Each day we had a balance of vegetables, proteins, and grains with lots and lots of soup and congee. All of these aided in my recovery and milk production. I think the biggest pro is that my husband and I didn't have to worry about cooking during the newborn stages since we were both exhausted and sleep deprived. We just microwaved the food and heated up the soups on the stove. This is my second postpartum meal delivery subscription with Jing Mommy and their Sales Manager, Patricia is absolutely amazing. The first time was back in 2022 and now that I'm due with #2 later this year, I knew I had to order from them again. The quality of their dishes have always been top notch and the portion size that you get for each dish is quite plentiful (definitely enough for two people!) and always tastes freshly made. It's been so easy communicating all of my needs and questions with Patricia. Definitely a great service for postpartum recovery especially if you live nearby. This food and herbal soups are all following the Chinese 月子 (1 month postpartum) restrictions. The food is delivered daily in the morning by 10am if you live close by. Food is freshly prepared the same day and you are given 3 meals (rice and vegetables) with herbal drinks and two desserts per day. Lunch and dinner came with delicious soups. I particularly love the lunch fish soup which is thought to enhance breastmilk production. For the first week postpartum, You are provided with 生化湯-Shen Hua Tang (soup) which is thought to help with removal of uterine blood clots. Each day for the whole month you are also given energy drink (goji berry and date vs ginger juice) and herbal drink at night. This will keep you well hydrated especially after drinking all the soups. The meal is meant to be healthy and help with recover. Therefore flavor is very bland with minimal salt or sugar added. I was able to loose 30 lbs by 4 weeks. Price for one month: $2000+ but Keep in mind you also save A LOT of time not having to prepare a postpartum focused meal so you can pay attention on taking care of your newborn or catching up on sleep! I'm rating my experience with JingMommy from early May to July of 2019. It's a long review but in short, if you don't have anything coming to help you after the labor, you won't regret using their service! My husband and I attended a meal tryout in May. Despite we went on a Mandarin session, the sales manager Patricia was considerate to repeat almost everything in English just for my husband. The samples we got to try at our session was not the full size meal but still we both left with a full stomach. The meeting room is right outside their central kitchen. Everything looked very clean and organized. We live about 40 mins away from the location without traffic. From setting up the appointment, ordering meals, paying deposit and activating the meals, everything was easy to deal with. We are on the west side of LA, so it was every two days for my delivery with an extra $200 fee on top of the meal price. The day after I delivered my baby, I called them up to active the meal. The usual delivery would be two days after the call, but the CS was nice enough to have a driver delivered a single meal to me the next day. Throughout my 30 days, I had to call in to make many changes(my son went in NICU, and later on I postponed delivery multiple times due to overload of food), and the CS on the phone were always nice and accurate on all of my changes. As for the food, the quality and balanced nutrition were unquestionable. Everything was well-cooked, packaged, and upon delivery, the food was still warm. Inevitably, after two weeks, the recipe started to repeat;still, it wasn't too dull as they still tried to mix and match. For the first two weeks, my husband was on paternity leave, so I got to share my meals with him. After him going back to work, I could not finish the meals by myself and ended up having too much of them siting in the fridge. The food does come in good portions. It was enough for two people to share with. The cooking is restaurant grade with a hint of grandma's cooking in it. We both enjoyed the quality and convenience of this meal service.
