Ever since my trip to Japan I've been trying to hit up all the ramen places in Utah, I have to say I'm really happy about the hype it has gotten, I remember a time when ramen shops were scarce in Utah and of course pho was more of the rage. I was on my way to a yelp event at Nordstrom when I decided to check out Jinya since it was right on state street near fashion place, for those who may remember it use to be an old Starbucks. Walking in you see Jinya is small but cozy, also has a old Japanese style bar seating, also the kitchen is wide open and you are able to view everything being made.Sean was our fantastic server for the night and suggested I order the "Sprouting up ramen" even though I'm not a fan of bean sprouts they put it on the side for me, my friend ordered Spicy chicken ramen. The ramen came out fast and I was excited about the amount of veggies I got, the broth tasted heavenly! Even my friend was extremely jealous of the taste of my ramen and wish he got mine instead, I devoured the whole bowl and actually enjoyed the broth compared to anything else. I was also told that they have very good rice bowls also, but I'm thinking I'll keep it traditional and have the "sprouting up ramen" a personal favorite. read more

Loved it! I ordered the Cha-Cha-Cha noodles with extra garlic on the side. The kids meals are huge! This place seems crowded but don't let that scare you away. The service is PERFECT. Really great meal. My mom took me here. She is more world traveled then I am, and said this was close to the Ramen Bars she has been to when traveling abroad. It's solid. Not my favorite Ramon but I wouldn't hesitate going back. I dearly wish they fried their tofu. we had the salmon avocado plate and it honestly tasted terrible and we didn't finish it. It's okay. My wife had a ramen and enjoyed it. I had the curry and it was very accurate in the flavor I was familiar with from Tokyo. This is the best ramen place I have ever gone to. Our waiter was incredible, really sweet and fast. Our food was out of this world, you can't go wrong with any of the ramen bowls. The interior is trendy and has a really cool vibe. This place is great when it comes to trying something new in Salt Lake. We need more restaurants like this one! I have mixed feelings about this place. We are die-hard Kobe Ramen Lovers, so we measure all Ramen against theirs. We ordered three items: *The Jinya bun: steamed bun with pork belly, a sweet/fishy sauce (kinda reminded me of eel sauce) a couple pieces of lettuce and a couple of cucumbers. A spicy or pickled component would have made it even better! *Takoyaki: octopus balls on an egg salad base. These were good, but they are kinda squishy inside like squishy thanksgiving stuffing, and fried on the outside sitting on egg salad. One was enough, get them to share. *Chef Special Tonkatsu Ramen: This was just ok. The noodles are thinner than Kobe, the egg was soft boiled but whole and brown on the outside, and the broth had fish powder. We saw fish powder in the description however the flavor just seemed overwhelmingly "fishy". We just couldn't finish the bowl, and the bowls aren't huge. The service was quick but the place is small small!! The two of us sat at a table for eight with two other parties of two. And it was a bit loud. Also there was a very smoky smell which came home in my hair. It smelled great going in, not so good in the car. Kobe Tonkatsu Ramen is our favorite but we feel like we need to give this place another try and just get the White Tonkatsu Ramen. I also really missed the chili oil and spice mix that I add to my Ramen at Kobe. read more

I wasn't crazy about this location when it used to be a Starbucks. It was nice to see a ramen restaurant move in but I can't say I was blown away by the food. After having great ramen in Japan and even here in Utah I was a bit disappointed with their miso ramen. If it is authentic Japanese miso ramen I would like to know from what region. The tonkatsu ramen looked more like what the miso should have been. This is a chain restaurant and people do like it. I'm just not one of them. read more

This is more of 3.5 because I liked the flavor of the broth and the overall taste of the ramen, however, the noodle stayed too long in the fridge I could taste the fridge. Which is not a big deal but any longer and it would be trash. It was at least al dente. The broth for tonkotsu black however, is very rich and thick and I love that, so if you like it lighter, perhaps you can try something else. Also, the line can get really long during lunch hour, not sure about dinner but I'm guessing similar. It's been a while so i don't remember the details very much, however I remembered my rating and thought I would get to this later, and here you go. I just got back from Japan and was looking for some Ramen and Jinya hit the spot.

The environment of the restaurant was a bit surprising to me with the loud music but it suited the style of the restaurant. I ordered the tonkotsu spicy ramen at spicy (middle tier of spice). The bowl made the ramen portion seem very small but it was a fairly large portion. The broth wasn't very heavy and the spice level was alright, next time though I would probably order the highest spice level. Personally I would've liked the noodles to be cooked slightly longer but it was cooked about an al dente level.The service was great as our server was very attentive and the food came out quickly. read more
