I was really craving a spicy tonkatsu and a friend had recently recommended this place as her favorite ramen in SLC, so my bf and I decided to give it a try! I saw that they offer a non-spicy tonkotsu and a spicy karai ramen, which looked like a spicy tonkotsu, but it had ground pork instead of chashu. I asked to see if I could sub the ground pork for chashu but was told they don't do that. Instead I got the regular tonkotsu and asked for spice on the side, which came as a spice rack. My bf got the shoyu ramen. We both agreed we wished the noodles were a little different (they're a little smaller/thinner than we were expecting), but the flavor of the broth was good, I liked the bamboo and black fungus, and the soft boiled egg was DELISH. I'd be curious to try the spicy karai next time. And I know this is so silly/weird to say, but their water was so good, it needed its own shout-out! I probably drank more water than I had all day in one sitting (and that's on top of all the ramen broth I was drinking!). Honestly, I usually hate drinking water, but it was so good here that I GUZZLED it, and my bf and I both liked it so much, we chugged whatever was left in our cups down before going home! Ambiance is warm, casual, plenty of half booth seats. Service was super attentive (my water glass never got less than half full), and the check and leftover boxes came quickly, as soon as we needed them. I was impressed with how on top of it they were! I'm so used to having to wait a long time or wave someone down for a to-go box or the check, but that was definitely not the case here. Overall, would be interested in trying again! This was my first time visiting the holladay location, I'd been to the state street one a bit over a year ago and thought it was good so maybe it's just this location, but the quality seems to have dipped a fair amount. The miso ramen was disappointing, the broth was good but the noodles were seemingly not fresh, I found myself chewing on little clumps of ramen noodles between bites of pork that were somehow dry. It was unexpected, and kinda sad. Plus I believe the costs have gone up a few dollars for these bowls in the last year so that's a double whammy. The katsudon bowl on the other hand was good! It came out hot and fresh and had plenty of flavor. I also really enjoyed how the tea was served, the pot kept it hot through the whole meal. I don't know what it is, maybe everyone is just friendlier and it makes everything better. Maybe it's the lack of crowds so you don't feel rushed. Hey so this place is good. Ramen was good, edamame was good, udon was good. $17 for a bowl of ramen is kind of wild, so I won't be able to eat here nearly as much as I'd like, but it was good. Tosh's Ramen is delicious! Sure, there were a few hiccups like our appetizer coming out mid-meal and some other issues that the sever took care of, but the flavor of the food is beyond anything else. The shiitake mushrooms that come in the Karai Ramen are to die for! I always get extra mushrooms because they're so good. The Tokyo Wings are also delicious and crispy--be sure to ask for extra sauce. There was one server working the whole restaurant, and it was rather busy so he did a good job! I'm writing specifically for the mango sticky rice I hope they can improve, I was hoping it was like Tuk Tuk, but it was basically like a soup..the mangoes were frozen on top and seems to have defrosted directly on top of the rice as they were still frozen and cold....the sticky rice was drenched and watered down in coconut syrup? Very good ramen. The takoyaki is off the charts. If you can believe this they have sake here. Order it with your meal. It totally enhances the ramen in ways you would expect for someone sitting at a ramen house in rappongi or ginza. The service is incredible. I cannot say any more good things about the service other than it is excellent. The food quality is very good! I would rate it in the upper end for Japanese food in the SLC area. One cool thing about this restaurant is the art work that is for sell around the walls. Very good stuff. A very well known local Japanese photographer. When I say I never liked ramen until Tosh's, I'm not kidding. Ask my friends; I had a disdain for Japanese ramen and a preference for Vietnamese pho. Tosh's completely changed my mind! I constantly crave their curry ramen, with extra shitaki mushrooms and their deliciously breaded katsu and yam noodles. I devour every single drop of it! Their green or oolong tea comes in a nice white ceramic pot, with traditional cups. I thoroughly enjoy every meal I have at Tosh's. Their edamame is nice and crisp, pretty al dente. Even taking the ramen to go for home enjoyment, they are generous with their portions. I've eaten at a lot of Ramen so I come to this with VERY high expectations. Overall 3.5 Stars - I rounded up to 4 stars to help out the business. My wife and I went to this restaurant as my sister had talked it up. We started with Edamame (of course) + some KushiKatsu. Both were good. The KushiKatsu was similar to a chicken nugget from ChickFillet but pork. The sauce was clutch. We ordered 4 bowls. The server asked us three times if that was a mistake as we were only two people. I really wanted to get a good handle on everything they had. We ordered - Tonkotsu Ramen, Karai Ramen, Curry Ramen, and Miso Ramen. My recommendation - Curry Ramen, it had by far the most flavor. My wives recommendation would be the same. She ended up stealing the rest of the bowl. The Tonkotsu Ramen was our second choice. The others were meh. Overall pretty decent place to eat and the best Ramen in SLC that we can find. We've tried them all. read more

We came for dinner and it was quite packed. We waited for a bigger table but then settled with 1 table for 5 of us so we can get seated and start ordering. We ordered and our food came out fairly quickly which we were all very impressed by. We ordered chicken curry, chicken teriyaki, ramen, mango sticky rice, mochi dessert and cookie/brownie dessert. I honestly don't like leaving bad reviews but I do feel it's fair for me to share my experience. Yesterday we branched out to try a new ramen spot. It had been snowing a ton and our normal place did not open. Went with Tosh even though they weren't close to where I live because they had a spicy ramen option in the menu. I opted to go pick it up because I didn't want to put anyone else through driving in the snow. I arrived well last the time my food should have been ready and it wasn't. I sat and waited for another 15 minutes. They handed my my bag of food and I left to drive home without checking the contents. When I open the bag I find out they forgot the broth for the ramens I ordered and my appetizer. Had to make the long trek back to the restaurant because the phone number listed for them did not work. When I arrived they were very casual about the error. They brought me back my order and this time I checked it before leaving. Again it was missing the appetizer. I kindly asked at that point to edit the tip off my bill. Instead they insisted on giving me another free appetizer and sent me on my way. 3 hours later I sit down to eat and realize they gave us the wrong types of broth for our ramen. Still ate it anyways at that point and was not very impressed. The appetizers were junk. All and all I'm not willing to give them another go. Also I ordered from their website and specifically did not check the box permitting them to send me promotional emails. They already have. Ugh. ****update. Somehow they refunded me my meal. Since COVID started altering business hours and procedures, we have called Tosh's several times for take out and have truly enjoyed the varieties of ramen they offer. The food is always good and fresh, and we felt like we were doing our part to support a local Holladay business to make sure they can stay open during COVID. Yet, on picking up our to go order this evening, I was a bit surprised when I saw a "to go fee" charged for each entree. In the future, inasmuch as I have a choice of supporting local businesses through this pandemic via my patronage, I'll probably decide to choose a place that doesn't charge me extra for NOT eating in the restaurant. read more
