Uni, scallops and black cod! Fresh & yummy!

My favorite secret sushi place! The staff is amazing - very attentive and friendly. Sushi is always fresh and yummy - my favorite is the moonlight roll. Wrapped in tamago and oh so yummy! I almost always order the mixed tempura - not too much batter or oily and always served at the right temperature! Definitely come early as there can be a line because it really is that yummy!

This Japanese sushi spot is pretty decent overall. For the area, it's actually one of the better options. The sushi has a good balance of fish and rice, which I appreciated. The salmon, though, was pretty average, and the ingredients didn't really stand out. Nothing was bad, but nothing was especially memorable either. The biggest downside was the wait time. After ordering, we waited at least 45 minutes for the food. That felt way too long, especially for sushi. Overall, it's an okay place if you're nearby and not in a rush, but the long wait makes it hard to come back often.

The waiter brought out a special dessert just for my father-in-law's birthday! Very sweet gesture!

The service was superb, and so was the sushi. A little pricey, but not too bad. Overall, everything was quite satisfying, except that their sound system was hard on the ears. Not a good speaker system, and even though I am pretty "hip", their music was very hard-core for dining to. Fortunately, my mother and father-in-law, are slightly hard of hearing and so it did not bother them. Haha! (you will see them in the photo having a great time... It was his birthday!) The staff was super sweet by singing, happy birthday and bringing out a special treat for him! I would have given them five stars, but the music was so bothersome that I had to lower the rating. Hopefully they'll fix their speaker system and get a more appropriate choice of music for dining, then I'll be back.

(Sorry for the bad photo) delicious takoyaki

One of the joys when moving somewhere is to find your local spots you can come to on repeat, and for two sushi fanatics, this is it. The place is smaller, so please make reservations. It gets very busy and this place is popular, since it's small inside, it may be loud for some, but I love it: Located in a quaint spot near Laguna Botanical preserve, this place is authentic, sushi chefs have been there for years. The service and quality of the fish is outstanding. They even had Japanese sea urchin, and fresh wasabi. We love sitting at the sushi bar and getting to know our chefs. This is what it's about. All the nigiri we ate was outstanding. Going to Japan is on the bucket list, but we've never been to a sushi place that actually MAKES their own sake. It's very impressive. I can't wait to come back and try more of whatever special items they have. Outstanding. See photos for nigiri and how they serve their sake.

Beautiful salmon skin salad with avocado.

Always delicious and very fresh. Tonight we came in for a quick appetizer roll and some Sapporo! I recommend the crunchy roll! Cooked fish, spices and that great texture/crunch factor. Great atmosphere for this hole-in the wall restaurant! Always a fun great time!

Right away I knew this place would be good because there were so many regulars! Everyone was so welcoming, the chefs were kind and tended to me whenever my plate was empty, the servers never stopped tidying and keeping my drink full, and the music was so good too! Just be warned, the portions are small and the price is high... but if you want something authentic, expertly crafted, and so good you don't even need soy sauce, give Jizake a try! They've been open for 2 decades for a reason!

The OMG! Sushi place!…read more Muse Sushi is one of our favorite local sushi spots--and for good reason. The food is exceptionally high quality, the prices are very fair, and the staff is ridiculously friendly. The spicy miso soup is a must, as is the spicy edamame. They have some great specialty rolls, including one with baked salmon that is fantastic. And their sashimi salmon? Best I've ever had. Seriously. There's also a great neighborhood vibe here. People are constantly walking in, the staff seems to know the regulars, and during dinner there's almost always a line. Apparently, we're not the only ones who figured out how good this place is. Now, there is one little Muse Sushi mystery: the Yelp waiting list. They have an online waiting list, which is great--except they turn it off sometimes. If it's slow, they don't need it. And if it gets REALLY busy, they apparently turn it off because the wait is so long they need to make sure they can actually close sometime this century. The problem is, when it's turned off, you have absolutely no idea what you're walking into. Is it a 15-minute wait? An hour? An hour and a half? Nobody knows! So my one humble request to the Muse Sushi crew: leave the waiting list on all the time. Even if it says "90-minute wait," at least we know what we're getting into and can decide whether the sushi is worth the wait--which, frankly, it probably is. Other than that, Muse Sushi is fantastic. Great food, great people, very fair prices, and a genuine local feel. Just tell us how long we're going to have to wait!

Food was yummy too. My girls had the teriyaki chicken and California roll, both yummy. The chicken teriyaki was surprisingly yummy. The Salmon Garlic Ponzu wasn't my favorite, but it's because I love a really good Salmon. However! The Bluefin Tuna w/ Crispy Onion was good. The crispy onion is thicker than you think, which makes excellent for the batter to catch. The specialty rolls: Red Dragon Roll w/Crispy Onion & Seared Yellowtail Roll was really good, again the crispy and onion was a nice crunch touch. Dessert, they have mochi ice cream, which is very familiar to the brand Mikawaya. 1, serving is 2 small size mochi ice cream, cut in half, so 4 half cut pieces. We enjoyed my husbands birthday, while at the same time hoping ours kids keep it together. And we got lucky this round! Great birthday dinner for my hubs. Thank you, O Fine Japanese Cuisine!

And Adrian has always been incredibly accommodating, somehow making magic happen every time. When my aunt came to town--the same aunt who introduced me to sushi at age 13 in Seattle--I finally had the perfect excuse to book Taikun. After all, I had to show my appreciation to the woman who opened my palate to the wonders of sushi. And at long last, I got to experience it for myself. Adrian, Chef Yasu, and the entire Taikun omakase completely blew me away. Sixteen courses, each one thoughtful, seasonal, and absolutely delicious, made for an unforgettable evening. I even tried rare fish I've never seen anywhere else. Adrian introduced every course with the story behind it--seasonality, origins, ingredients--and even shared photos of the fish to give more context. It truly elevated the entire experience. Don't even get me started on the intimate setting of the experience. It only seats 9 people max which makes it incredibly personal and hands on. You sit right in front of the chef, and he's so nice you feel totally comfortable asking him anything.

The chicken and avocado salad came with generous portions of perfectly ripe and sliced avocados. The salad dressing was something I didn't expect I enjoy so much. I am hooked! Please sell them by the gallons! I will buy it weekly! The avocado rolls also came with very generous portions of perfectly ripe avocados. Not a blemish in sight and very fresh and tasty. I actually ended up getting full just eating them by itself first. The grilled salmon bento is a must order. I loved how the salmon was cooked. The sauce wasn't too sweet, which I appreciated. I am glad I ordered mine with extra avocado. It made for a very filling meal. The dumplings were also delicious and the 4-pc California rolls were such a nice contrasting side kick. The salad came with their wonderful dressing too! I didn't expect the accompanying soup complimenting the meal so perfectly. The best $20 something meal I spent in awhile! I am looking forward to revisiting again this week and trying out their other menu items. The location is right off of 5 Freeway exit and in the same shopping center as Target and Kona Loa Coffee which makes for a really good spot to get food from on-the go.
