Our daughter took us to Keith's for dinner. Wow, amazing people and food! I couldn't decide what to choose on the menu, everything sounded delicious! We had the Calamari, Sausage & Green Beans for an appetizer. Calamari was perfect, it was not rubbery when it's cooked too long. Sausage was made at the restaurant and was delicious sautéed with the green beans. I had the Lobster Ravioli with the Vodka sauce. I was so full but couldn't stop eating it. This place is very small, but it's worth going to. We had the massively large BBQ Ribs & Rack of Lamb, they were both fall off the bone delicious. The portions were so big that we had to take half of our meals home. I wasn't a fan of the complementary bread, that was served with butter & a bulb of cooked garlic. We've been coming to Keith's for over 20 years. It's a small town gem. Cute, old restaurant that you enter & walk past the kitchen, past the bar & up the stairs to the quaint dining area. Great bread with roasted garlic cloves. My favorite dish is the chili glazed scallops. Served with seasonal vegetables & mashed potatoes. Always perfectly prepared. I also love the pasta puttanesca. Seasonal ravioli with butternut squash is also a fav. My husband loves the huge half slab of ribs that fall off the bone. Great wine selection & bar options. The servers are awesome & knowledgeable. 6 of us attended a dinner at Keith's this evening and could not have been more disappointed. Although the food and service were good, the atmosphere was not. The restaurant is not ADA compliant, from the front door to having to climb stairs to the dining room (i'm temporarily using a walker). In addition, an extremely loud party was in the same room as we were; we could not hear the wait staff, nor could we have conversations among ourselves. We asked to move and were told there was no table available as it would be just as loud. We asked both the waitress and the manager several times to speak to the loud people at the table but they did not. They were unsympathetic and unconcerned. Their sticky toffee dessert (I cannot remember the exact name of it) is to die for!!! So effing delicious, I couldn't believe something so good existed. Normally, my bf and I never get dessert but our lovely waitress (I wish I can remember her name) suggested that we try it and wow are we so grateful we did. I'm embarrassed to admit that I never had the pleasure of dining at Keith's before this past Saturday evening. My wife and I are partial to eating in Chicago, but Keith's is a hidden jewel right here in our backyard! Walk in and you're met with a small, cozy, warmly-lit bar on one side and a small, open kitchen on the other. The place is warm, inviting and charming. The service is exceptional. We never waited nor felt rushed at any time during our meal. Wonderful wine. The menu offers perfectly executed steaks, chops and seafood, Italian pastas and several house specialties. Don't pass over the grilled octopus appetizer. Our table enjoyed veal saltimbocca, wild mushroom ravioli, and seared scallops, which demonstrated the breadth and range of quality dishes coming out of their tiny kitchen. We will be back. Soon. This was a new stop for us and it was exceptional. This little place is easy to pass by as you drive down Indianapolis Blvd ... you have to look for it. They are open for lunch every day but Sunday, and also serve dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations are suggested because this place gets busy - another sign it is a good one. The ambiance inside is very nice, sort of like a Wisconsin supper club. The bar is old-fashioned, handsome, and can serve up anything you might like. While some people may think this place needs updating, we thought it was just fine. The food here is very good all around. Since they have limited dinner days, they can make sure the food is fresh and plentiful. Prices are on the high side, but the service matched it. Loved their mushroom appetizer, and the steaks were very nice as were the pasta dishes. The fish offerings are especially good. All in all the food here was top shelf stuff. Next time you are in the neighborhood do look for this little place on the west side of the street in Whiting, Indiana. This place is proof positive that Whiting has more going for it than just the delightful Pierogi Fest in the summer and the major employer BP Refinery all year round. read more

Never been here before and probably wouldn't go back. It's crazy that's it is only open 8 hours a week. You would think the place would be mobbed but it wasn't. We showed up at 5pm on a Friday and just sat at the bar. There were 5 of us in our party. We took up 85% of the bar. The menu has a few options in each category. I ordered the walleye in butter and lemon with capers. It was good. The girlfriend ordered the pork chop and they asked how she wanted it. Never heard that on a pork chop. The answer was cooked (medium) but after a couple of cuts it was apparent it was still raw in the middle. Food overall was good but definitely other places in the area to check out first. Whiting IN, surrounded by a large BP refinery, and all the ancient Rust Belt industry that has made the upper mid-west infamously gritty, contains this Pearl of dining. The entry is a bit weird. One door for each gender? Happily I wasn't so confused as to prevent entry. Past the narrow foyer are rest rooms, the bar, and an open kitchen? Did I enter through the back? No matter, the funky arrangement is accompanied by eclectic decor primarily defined by pin-up girl calendars, a skeleton riding a mermaid, a large trophy carp, and various other oddities that offset the white linen table cloths. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient in only a way that the Eastern European ancestors of modern denizens could instill. Lemon-pepper walleye was perfectly prepared. The excellent inhabitant of Lake Michigan was lightly coated in spicy citrus. Delicious! I will return to Whiting. Keith's makes the trip much less dreadful. read more

Charming setting. Capable , informed, pleasant and hospitable wait staff. You get to see the charcoal grilling station on the left as soon as you enter. One man working expertly and with great economy of movement. Keith was in house and acknowledged every diner. The Sausage and Beans appetizer with bacon and onion jam was a brilliant and delicious dish! The smoked shrimp and linguine dish was a hit. Had dinner with 2 friends on a Saturday evening 6pm. Arrived & seated quickly. Almost 30 minutes passed and we didn't even have water on our table/ no server. Finally asked a passing server for service, We were informed that we had been forgotten! It was another 40 minutes before our food was served. One hidden gem in NWI. This is my second time coming here. The food is outstanding. The service is first class. The atmosphere is very relaxing and enjoyable. Hello Had to give this an extra star to MY liking. I heard a Doctor owns this place. It is a Doctor that knows whats good for you. My Blackened Mahi Mahi was accompanied with roasted Potatoes, Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Carrot. All cooked perfect. My Lemon Chicken Soup had real strips of chicken and tasted lemony , and homemade like it should. They make great Martinis too, just like downtown. Or maybe I just really needed one. I had a very good ribeye steak sandwich ($14) cooked medium, and it was basically like a dinner at lunch time. My colleague had a half slab of ribs ($15) that fell off the bones and that he really enjoyed. It's a place with white table cloth service. Quality is very good here, but it's also priced for high quality. It can be a little slow at lunch time, as it's a popular upscale and business lunch location in Whiting. This was the worst dealings I have had with a business person. Keith, the owner was extremely rude. I had a problem with my meal. Two of us in our party ordered the strip steak. My friends was very tender and mine was as tough as a shoe. I could hardly cut it. They exchanged it with a different steak. By the time I got it everyone was done eating and the table had been cleared. Then when we got the bill, I was upcharged $10.00 toget a different steak. He said so,pay it. I said what? He repeated it. I told him, I would never eat there again. He shrugged his shoulders and said. So. Then walked away. The group could hardly believe it. He was very rude. read more

1 STAR RATING BASED ON SERVICE NOT FOOD! Haven't been here in years but remembered the fantastic food. We went for a friends birthday. We had a 7:00 reservation, and we were seated in the very far back room next to a large group. Our table was next to a closet with no door with wire hangers with a child's school uniform polo shirt draped over one of them. There was also a vent on the floor that was blowing in very cold air which felt like wind from outside. We actually used the little polo shirt from the scary closet to cover the vent! It came in handy! Then our server told us the specials quickly but well. Two of us ordered surf and turf (only $38!) and two had pasta. We ordered saganaki for the appetizer. They give you a small basket of bread slices and a bulb of roasted garlic and no butter. We were so hungry that we ate the bread quickly. When we asked for more bread, garlic and butter she said ok as she was running by. The saganaki came next and it was not lit on fire table side. She didn't bring any bread to eat the saganaki with for 15 minutes, even after I asked her a second time. Then the busser brought more bread and garlic without the butter. The only times we could ask our server for anything was when she was frantically running past us from taking care of the larger table. The entrees took a solid 45 minutes after the salad course. She then decided to talk to us and tell us 3 times it was "almost done". Then she throws more bread at us and tells us she's going to "ask that busser" to bring us a nice carrafe of water. It was like she was implying that the busser hadn't been taking care of us and trying to deflect from her own lack of attention. The food was fantastic. Really really delicious. When we asked for the check she actually took a plate from underneath someone who was still eating! Then she came back super quick to collect the check! We were in there for 2 solid hours and now she expects us to pay a check in a minute? Also the men's bathroom had the most inappropriate framed 80s posters on the walls. I took photos. They're attached. The food is so good here, but it's a pity that the staff doesn't seem to be able to keep up with the tables they have. read more
