They were very quick to communicate and come out for an estimate. The estimator was very thorough in describing their process. They were also quick to provide an estimate. On the day of the project, the team was very timely and initially asked if I had any questions. Where things felt a little off was about 45 minutes into the project after removing the top layer a member from the team (assuming project manager) I hadn't met before came to discuss changing the paving approach that was thoroughly described by the estimator to bypass updating the foundation of the driveway and using what was originally there. Given that there was going to be material reduction, I had to ask if they were going to knock down the price any. When I pressed why we were changing approach, the project manager didn't have many answers outside of the foundation wasn't cracking, but didn't tie it to the sinking issue I was having that drove the driveway replacement in the first place. I ultimately went with the new plan, but mainly because I felt pressure from the project manager and didn't feel I had time to research/consult if the alternative approach was really better for my situation. One other minor point was that I had to ask them to do more to clean up on and around the driveway (my walkway still has paving marks and I end up doing more sweeping after they left) that should have been taken care of before wrapping up the job. Overall, they were priced cheaper than most which is why I am going with 4 stars, but would have appreciated more honestly in the estimate up front. If you end up going with them, press the estimator to get a good understanding of any options they may spring on you on project day.

The paver walkway installation we received from NoVA Paving was done badly and will likely need to…read morebe replaced within a couple years. Unfortunately, this is the worst final product that we have experienced in our years of dealing with various home contractors. We hired NoVA Paving to replace our crumbling slate walkway with new pavers. We have undergone many home improvement projects over the years and have had mostly good experiences, but this was anything but. Instead of taking the proper time and effort to establish a deeper foundation, NoVA Paving used our existing, very shallow foundation. This left the pavers lifted from the adjacent driveway, sidewalk and grass. To keep it in place they placed slipshod concrete wherever it would have otherwise immediately crumbled. After the job, they told us that using the existing foundation "saved us money" and that we have no issue. As seen in pictures: * Multiple areas of pavers coming loose after the installation. * The entirety of some pavers are exposed with hollow spaces underneath. * Because they never established a proper foundation to even out the pavers with the sidewalk, they had to dump a slab of concrete where pavers should have been placed. The worst part was that they did not even tell us about the concrete until AFTER the job was completed. * Concrete securing the pavers in other areas has a terrible aesthetic. * We were charged $700 extra to haul away the old slate - which was not discussed beforehand or included in quote. When we told Mark about the problems, we got the run around for a month before they finally sent a foreman out to investigate. This was when we were told that there was nothing that could be done about the shallow foundation without a complete re-do of the entire job. We then asked for a partial refund and were told by Nova Paving to just take some dirt and put it up against the sides of the pavers, and that we did not have an issue.

These guys replaced my driveway last Winter, and large parts of it are already failing. I asked…read morethem to fix it under their 1-year warranty and they refused, citing "base failure" as something that is not covered under their warranty. My fault for not reviewing the warranty more carefully and making them remove base failure. But I warn anyone who does business with these guys that they are do not do high quality work, nor do they stand by their work. If you do decide to work with them, read their warranty very carefully. The warranty is filled with typos and contradictions; best to make sure you understand everything that is in the warranty if you decide to work with these guys, and don't let them put broad, non-descript exclusions in there such as "base failure". I posted some photos below of their shoddy work. This work was done less than 9 months ago. Even if you have to pay a bit more for another contractor, it is worth it based on my experience. Poor work and zero accountability - not a good combo!!

I've been in my house for 25 years now and this is the third time I've had major paving done for my…read moredriveway. I chose H&H since they were local and the salesman did an excellent job explaining the process and why certain parts of my driveway regularly failed. On the day of work Jeff showed up with ten guys which I thought was a lot. But once they got going everyone was working on something and my 150 foot long driveway was getting dug up. They dug about 13-18 inches deep in the areas I had problems with and put down a moisture barrier and two trucks of rock and fill then paved. They put in a buried PVC pipe across the driveway for electricity and they left a small unnoticeable curb between the driveway and street which I can attest stopped the street water from draining down my driveway. They had two rollers to press down and they went back and forth what seemed like 500 times. With all the equipment and trucks I was amazed they were done in about five hours and cleaned up the site very good. They did a great job and I've had several neighbors compliment the work.

I hired H&H to resurface my driveway two years ago. After evaluating the project, they determined…read morethat only the top layer of asphalt needed to be removed and replaced. The work was completed, but the finished driveway now has a standing-water puddle in an area where water did not previously collect. I cannot say whether this was caused by insufficient grading, inadequate compaction, or too little material being installed, as I did not directly observe the work. What disappointed me most was the company's response after I reported the issue. I contacted H&H and requested that they inspect and correct the problem under their warranty. They declined to do so, leaving me with a drainage issue that did not exist before the project. I was also surprised to learn that their asphalt system requires an initial sealing treatment shortly after installation, followed by another sealing a few years later and continued periodic resealing thereafter. Homeowners should make sure they fully understand the long-term maintenance requirements and costs before proceeding. My recommendation is to choose a contractor that stands behind its work and honors warranty concerns when problems arise. Quality workmanship is important, but so is customer service after the check has been cashed. Based on my experience, I would not use H&H again.
