More documentation of poor workmanship of Javier Ramirez

I am leaving a follow-up review (with video) regarding Mr. Ramirez's poor work quality (I left a previous review last November 2025). As the Fall set in last year, my bricks started to turn white. I called Mr. Ramirez about this issue repeatedly and he stated that it was the mortar used and that he needed to replace the mortar. PLEASE WATCH THIS VIDEO. Mr. Ramirez cannot be trusted. I paid him $6K and this is what my stairs look like! Not only are the bricks scratched, he used inferior materials. Given the fact that Mr. Ramirez lacks integrity, I requested a full refund. Mr. Ramirez has refused to respond to my calls and texts. Now, I will have to take him to DC Small Claims Court to get my money back. Honestly, I don't think Mr. Ramirez respects Black women. While he was working on my stairs, I brought him, his colleague, and his mother AND father hearty lunches--for several days. And this is how I am treated. I will receive JUSTICE in Court. Shameful!

Javier and his team did an amazing job with our masonry. If you are looking for someone to repair your bricks, you should go with Ramirez Brick Repair Services! I needed to get out stairs fixed because we had a lot of loose bricks from aging + usual weather wear and tear. I compared a lot of options on Yelp, and this team provided the best estimate among the ones I contacted. They got the job done in a day, which was an extremely difficult one that required taking out all of the bricks on the steps and putting them back in. They are extremely professional and hard workers. They were outside working on the bricks the whole day, and I couldn't be happier with the results!

Our front steps consist of about 240 visible bricks with ~10 of them falling out of place and much of the grout pitted or missing! Ramirez Brick did a 100% grout replacement and reseated/replaced all failing bricks. For a great price, and 3-4 people to complete the job in less than one day! Definitely bring them back for other jobs. Thank you so much!

Javier is an amazing mason - he also has a team of talented people who love and know this craft. Masonry is not an easy thing is learn but it is even harder thing to do right. I live in a historic neighborhood in DC and the city has very strict standards on how brick pointing is done on the front of the house. Javier knew what the steps were that needed to be taken and he did it very well. He also helped me with a retaining wall on one of my properties that was leaning over. Every project that he has done for me has been the highest standard of care and precision. I would caution though that Javier is a very busy guy - and as his business continues to take off he may not have as much time to take on a project. He cares a lot and will speak to you on the phone to give you the best and most precise information possible. I would not hesitate to hire Javier again in the future. On a side note he also has skills doing waterproofing - when there was constant leaks on the front of my house he knew what to do and did it right. He dug into the footer put in the perforated pipes, gravel, and a barrier between my wall and our retaining wall. I have had no problems since he did the waterproofing. I am looking forward to see how it stands when there is a heavy rain storm. When there was an issue with the project he immediately came back and remedied it.

    This is the finished work

Javier and his crew did an excellent job on our large brick chimney that had not been repaired since the 50s. It had a subtle leak that was causing unsightly mold to grow on the inside. They did the top part in 2019 (as the lowest bidders), and it didn't fully resolve the problem. He suggested then that we call him back to do the rest. We got the bottom part repointed-repaired in early 2024, and he gave us a returning customer discount. His crew was here for 3 full days of work, replaced 12 bricks, and it looks excellent now. His crew does high-quality work for a very reasonable price (they again came under the lowest bid we received from other companies). We are very happy with the work they did on this large job, and would whole-heartedly recommend them to future customers.

Incredible response time, great work, and good service. I needed to have a crawlspace access sealed off with cinderblock. From first contact via Yelp, to quote, to completion of work took only a week or so. Javier and his team did a great job and left the job site cleaner than they found it. I have attached a picture of their work (after I painted it).

A 60+ year old brick retaining wall was collapsing. After talking to several contractors, I called Ramirez Brick and am so glad I did. Javier and his team were phenomenal! They responded quickly and provided a very fair price quote, did an excellent job rebuilding the entire brick wall (complete with cinder block, rebar and concrete backing) and cleaned it all up beautifully. I would highly recommend and won't hesitate to call in them again if I have future brick work.

The finished product before cleaning. After Javier's magic! The fence looks almost exactly as it did before the person drove into it!

You can stop looking, you've found your mason! Javier is professional, incredibly patient, efficient, and a great communicator. Someone drove into my brick fence! I requested a quote from Javier after the accident. He came by my house and provided a very reasonable, written quote in two days. In coordinating with the perpetrator, their insurance company and mine, I wasn't able to sign a contract for the work until a few weeks later, but Javier was very patient and stayed in communication. Once we signed, it only took him 2 days' repairs, plus 1 morning to do a cleaning once dried! As you can see from the pics, he did a wonderful job. Plus, I had a small tile job inside which he repaired quickly and beautifully while he was there. The amount I paid was exactly what he quoted. Phenomenal service!

And then they kept happening, getting larger and spreading throughout the entirety of the house, and we could no longer open the doors in the basement and 1st floor on the south side of the house. Alarmed, I called a civil engineer and had an assessment done. They ascertained our house was sinking, particularly in one corner, and recommended ~30 push piers around the perimeter and up the centerline of the house... for over $100k. I literally laughed at him and asked him who he thought I was that he thought I could afford that. I called a few other places and got questionable assessments, and then I spoke with Yos from DMV. What a breath of fresh air. He was personable and honest. He recommended we get a 3rd party civil engineer to produce a report with drawings that I could use for any foundation company - even if I didn't go with DMV. We (finally, after a loooong delay on the civil engineer's part) got the report and drawings, and Yos and his team began work in early January to install ~10 helical piers on the sinking corner of the house. It was a pretty invasive project, but his team was fantastic. Fast forward 5 months and the cracks have stopped appearing, with a number of them even closing. We are very satisfied with the work DMV did for us, and are particularly pleased with their honesty. Where one company tried to sell us an overkill solution for six figures, Yos was upfront and told us what we really need - to address that affected area and revisit others if they end up being an issue - for roughly a quarter of the other company's price. That sort of honesty and pricing earns a permanent spot in my trusted contractor list.

I stand by my review. My experience with Value Dry Waterproofing was deeply disappointing and, in my opinion, professionally and ethically unacceptable. I hired Value Dry for approximately $12,000 of foundation, masonry, sill/bearing, debris-removal, and structural-support work associated with getting my house properly back onto its foundation. I paid approximately $8,000. The agreed work was not completed. The most important facts are not allegations. They come from Value Dry's own written communications. JULY 13, 2026: Value Dry President James Ketterer met with me and prepared a written agreement addressing work that still remained. JULY 14, 2026: Mr. Ketterer put the remaining work in writing, including: * Installation of two Lally columns * Removal of the existing block columns and associated debris * Patching 12 openings with block/cement * Removal of concrete debris He also wrote that Value Dry was "working to bring your project to completion as agreed to in the agreements dated 6/20 and 7/13/2026." Those are Value Dry's words. Mr. Ketterer also acknowledged in writing that Value Dry's employee had not followed the proper change-order procedure. He explained that the unforeseen work and associated costs should have been detailed in writing and presented to me for my signature before proceeding. That admission is important. During the project, demolition and foundation-related work had already occurred when I was subsequently told that another approximately $1,500 would be required to restore openings. I disputed that charge because I had not approved it beforehand and asked Value Dry to explain in writing why that work supposedly fell outside the original agreement. This is exactly why written change orders exist. A homeowner should not be placed in a position where part of the house has already been opened or demolished and only afterward be confronted with an additional charge that was never approved in advance. Value Dry's Vice President of Operations subsequently confirmed that a crew was scheduled to return on July 21 to continue the work. Then something changed. JULY 17, 2026: Before the scheduled return date arrived, Mr. Ketterer canceled Value Dry's return, stated that Value Dry would perform no additional work, and declared that the payments already received represented adequate compensation for "the work completed." Those words matter. He did not say that all agreed work had been completed. In fact, only three days earlier, Value Dry had specifically identified work that still remained and stated that it was working to bring the project to completion. That is the central contradiction Value Dry should explain. Instead, its public response attacks me personally, discusses another contractor, speculates about my motives, and characterizes my communications as "harassment." None of that answers the documents. If Value Dry is going to publicly accuse a customer of threatening its president, then it should state exactly what was allegedly said, when it was allegedly said, who witnessed it, and what contemporaneous documentation supports the accusation. Yes, the July 13 discussion became heated. I have acknowledged that. But what happened afterward is highly significant: Value Dry still memorialized an agreement, identified remaining work in writing, acknowledged a failure in its change-order process, scheduled a crew to return, and continued discussing completion of the project. That documented sequence is difficult to reconcile with the dramatic characterization Value Dry is now presenting publicly. Value Dry also suggests that I demanded work beyond its obligations. Again, its own July 14 written communication says otherwise regarding the columns, openings, demolition, and debris work that Value Dry itself specifically identified as remaining. Value Dry further claims that the amount of money it retained was "fair and reasonable." Then provide the accounting. Show: * The total amount Value Dry retained * The work actually completed * The labor attributable to that completed work * The materials attributable to that completed work * The value assigned to each completed item * The work Value Dry acknowledged remained unfinished * The value assigned to that unfinished work Calling an amount "fair and reasonable" is not the same thing as demonstrating that it was fair and reasonable. Maryland Judiciary Case Search also publicly displays numerous court case entries involving VALUE DRY LLC / Value Dry Waterproofing over a period of years. To be clear, the existence of a court case does not itself establish wrongdoing, and I am not claiming that every case was decided against Value Dry. Anyone inte

The initial sales person was a classic over-seller and promised the world while simultaneously doing a very surface-level review of the situation, ultimately concluding that we were in need of an indoor water mitigation system and sump pump. The sales process was tortured, over-the-top, and ended with the classic "same-day-only discount" proposal (red flag number 1). The scheduling process and lead-up to the project was radio-silent with no preparation on what to do or what to expect from the project manager or the sales person until I reached out proactively. I had to call the morning the project was set to begin to even know if they were coming or not (red flag number 2). The project itself eventually began and within less than an hour it became obvious the source of the leak was in fact a burst pipe and not ground water coming in through the basement. I called the office and put a stop order on the work at which point they immediately became very cagey about what options were available to me and from this point on once again went radio silent (red flag number 3). Upon reaching out to the office multiple times (via both email and phone) to address the issue and seek at least a partial refund of our deposit for the issue, they took 3+ days to even respond, and when they did, claimed that despite obvious pictures pointing to the pipe being the issue, it could have been ground water at the same time and they were unable to provide any refund of any kind (red flag number 4). I get that I signed a contract. I get that they planned and scheduled the work. I also now have learned an expensive lesson about trusting my gut and being more proactive about my concerns. But they're supposed to be the experts! And the fact that they took absolutely no responsibility for having done a poor assessment of the situation up-front and then pretended like they were actually still right about it was disappointing and embarrassing. I can't in good faith recommend working with this company to anyone.

I'm leaving this review to share a balanced but honest account of my experience. While the end…read moreresult of the project was acceptable, the process was far more complicated and frustrating than it needed to be. The sales interaction set the tone with high‑pressure tactics, including statements like "this price is only available today." We moved forward anyway because we knew we wanted the work done. When I later asked to adjust the scope, the salesperson resisted for nearly ten minutes before agreeing to send a revised contract. The first crew delivered solid work on the drain line and concrete, but the vapor barrier installation was sloppy--uneven trimming, gaps, and inconsistent application. They also removed a board supporting the incoming water line without explanation, leaving it hanging from a wire and damaging the clamp. Their initial attempt to "fix" it involved taping the board to a pipe, which was not a proper or safe solution. The sump pump outlet was also installed in a way that caused the discharge pipe to partially block it, putting pressure on the plug. Communication was another major issue. I was never given a dedicated point of contact. I had to reach out to the salesperson again just to report problems. He forwarded my concerns to the office, and I was eventually contacted by Christal. She was professional and genuinely helpful, but her phone number repeatedly showed as disconnected, and only some text messages went through. I had to call the main line each time and ask to be routed to her. A week later, two crews returned and corrected the vapor barrier, repaired the board, and moved the outlet so it was no longer obstructed. The final work met expectations, but the overall experience involved unnecessary sales pressure, communication challenges, and multiple days off work for corrections and inspections.

My experience with JES Repair was frustrating and ultimately disappointing…read more The project itself was completed on schedule, but the quality and planning of the work left a lot to be desired. The beam repairs appear to have been completed in the easiest way possible, with little consideration for the work that would need to happen afterward. The crew cut the subfloor approximately three inches away from the walls and left it unsupported. As a result, my flooring contractor had to tear out two sections of flooring and replace the entire subfloor in those areas because the necessary repairs were never addressed during the original project. Even more frustrating, JES only opened a limited section of the floor instead of exposing the entire affected area. Once the flooring contractor had everything opened up, additional damaged wood was discovered that now requires even more repairs. Since JES was already working in that area, it is difficult to understand how these issues weren't identified or why the floor wasn't opened far enough to properly inspect the entire section. Addressing everything while the area was already exposed would have saved significant time, cost, and disruption. The inspection process was another major disappointment. The county inspection failed and was rescheduled without anyone from JES informing me ahead of time. I was then told that no one from JES would attend the reinspection and that it was between me and the county. As a homeowner, I'm not a contractor and shouldn't be expected to answer technical questions or represent the company's work to the building inspector. I hired JES expecting professional workmanship, thorough planning, and support through the entire process. Instead, I've been left coordinating additional repairs, paying for work that could have been avoided, and handling inspection issues that should have been managed by the contractor. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend JES Repair. UPDATE (07/08/2026): I connected with the resolution team and are working through the issues in a positive and constructive manner.
