I was pleasantly shocked. From the outside, it looks like a cozy, family-run neighborhood pizza place. I only ended up there because of the Feral Feline Project fundraiser, and it's a bit out of the way for me. The pizza completely surprised me. Their thin crust is actually thin--crispy, light, and delicious, not the lumpy, doughy crust that so often gets passed off as thin crust. The sausage was packed with flavor, and I was happy to see red onions and roasted red peppers as topping options. The sampler appetizer was another surprise. I expected the usual frozen, deep-fried assortment with that unmistakable freezer taste. Instead, it tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared--not like something dumped out of a bulk frozen food-service bag. First timer at JJ Twigs on Thursday. Surprisingly good! I had the grilled chicken and vegetables; it was perfectly prepared, chicken tender and juicy. The grilled squash and red pepper was a great complement - healthy choice and delicious. Cheeseburger was also very good as was the sample appetizer. The half-carafe of Joel Gott wine was a good value and good wine. Server was attentive and very amiable. Decided to try the pizza and a salad Saturday (carryout). The Caesar salad for two was WAY overpriced. Barely enough Romaine, and to be honest, an $11 price tag is ridiculous for lettuce, a few croutons and a sprinkle of parmesan with ONE prepackaged dressing. Will not make that mistake again. This family run restaurant is about as local and authentic to the neighborhood as they come! It's small but they can pack in a real crowd and they do! It gets very packed afterwards 5:30 and earlier on the weekends. Their specialty is pizza but they allegedly have great burgers and sandwiches. This is my first time trying JJ Twigs Italian beef. I ordered the Supreme Italian that includes mozzarella cheese on garlic bread. I added sweet peppers to the sandwich. It was delicious and generous in size. The roll ends were crusty and even after adding the au jus the bread held up well. I added some peppericcini that I had at home. With the addition of a Cesar salad it made for a perfect carry out dinner. JJ Twigs never disappoints. Parking can be tight on busy weekends but that adds to the cozy experience of this locally iconic restaurant. The staff is always friendly too. read more

I enjoyed JJ Twigs! My husband and I went for lunch recently. Upon entering, I felt like I was in a cozy lodge with all of the wood furniture. We were able to choose any table we wanted. Service was quick, friendly & informative. We got a salad and a small pizza, which was the perfect size for 2. Everything was tasty and fresh. I loved the thin cracker crust of the pizza! Drove past and realized it's been about 10 years since I've eaten here, mainly due to my wife's food allergies. My boys and I stopped in for lunch. We started with the loaded fries which I remembered being amazing. They were not, it's just fires smothered in a yellow cheese sauce (which was just ok) and bacon crumbles. The fries alone were good, bring loaded actually detracted from the taste. We then got some boneless wings and an italian beef. Everything here is cooked in the oven which is unfortunate. I ordered the "hot honey" sauce and it was literally like I had dipped my chicken in honey like a 3 year old. Not sure where the "hot" part was but it never arrived. Friendly and fast service, we came here on a weekday and it was pretty empty inside so we had the restaurant to ourselves. Restaurant looks like a log cabin from the outside and the ambience carries through where everything is wood and brown inside. Medium restaurant with mostly booths up front. This is a clean pleasant looking newly opened restaurant/ bar in Antioch. We were greeted by very friendly staff and owner on arrival. Pizza and appetizer we ordered were tasty. Margarita's were also very good. Would be rated so much better if service could be faster. Appetizer took 50 minutes to cook. Unfortunately, cooking time was very slow on our last visit also. I have been going to this place for over 10 years... Tonight I went with my best friend and her daughter and friends ages 9 to 11. Sat at a table order over 300 worth of food - kids were having fun and restaurant was 'busy' -then a random awkward man sitting alone, that I have never seen before asks our table to be quiet- after for the first 15 mins we were there - we listened to a screaming 6 year old lose his mind while his parents obviously didn't hear it. Who cares!! It's a family place, right?!? I then said to this gentleman- these girls are just having fun..and he said this is not a playground, and I said huh? These are young girls who were sitting at the table, giggling and having fun? He was rude, angry and so mean! Long story short it was the OWNER, never saw this guy in the decade I have been going there!! I would not write this obviously if I wasn't astonished!! Long story short - won't ever go back.. over priced pizza that I have been paying for because of convenience but this experience was awful!! 3 other patrons came to our table and said wow that was awful the way he spoke to you all! Just today we placed an order and had a coupon and they did not honor it. We do our kids birthdays there every year. We chose JJ Twig's based on location, it was a nice halfway point to meet family. I will be honest, the outside has very hole in the wall bar vibes, so I was not sure if it would be kid friendly. I was pleasantly surprised. Our waiter helped get us highchairs and he cleaned them off for us. It was a small act, but that does not happen very often at other places. We ordered pizza, kids meals, and a few sandwiches. I really enjoyed the pizza and it had a unique flavor. We really enjoyed our leftovers too! Our waiter, Peter C., really made our experience. We were in the back of the restaurant and he made an effort to check on us often and was so kind. He really cared about making sure we had a good experience. Far superior to another location in Lake Zurich. This 5 star review is for the pizza only as that's all I ever order. I actually live closer to the LZ location, but LZ is take-out or delivery only. We first started going to JJ Twigs shortly after we moved to the Chicago suburbs in the 80s, and my kid was just a sprout. They had peanuts on the table, and she got a huge kick out being able to throw the shells on the floor.... being messy on purpose! I liked the thin crust pizza (OK, and the peanuts, too), the restaurant uses fresh made Italian sausage, and whole milk mozzarella, which gives the cheese a nice stretchiness quality. They had a smattering of herbs which I find pleasing, as well. The original location was overlooking serene Lake Zurich, IL, but that location burned down in 2004. They moved up the road inside the arcade building at a mini golf, and I stopped in there once or twice over the years, but only for take out. Finally they moved to their present location, on Highway 14 in Palatine, into s cozy building that was previously another pizzeria, which I can't JJ Twigs Pizza Reviewremember the name of. It's smaller than the original location, but a warmer decor, and they offer their entire lengthy menu of pizza, sandwiches, and entrees, along with a full bar. JJ Twigs is known for their unique "double decker" pizza, which is two fully topped thin crust pizzas, one atop the other, sealed together with a thick hand-turned outer crust. I've never tried it. I had my "usual," a thin crust sausage with green olive, and double cheese. And it was fabulous. Chased it down with an Italian beef but took most of both home, of course. The pie is every bit as good as I remembered, and I'd stop by more often, but it's quite a hike for me. They have quite a few TVs as well as a separate room, JJ Twigs would be a fun place to have a small party or catch the game.
