My fiancé and I were feeling pizza for dinner tonight, so we decided to give Tortorice's a try! We were both really impressed with the variety of the types of pizza they offered. We went with the Picasso style pizza which is a thin crust pizza covered in mozzarella then another thin crust pizza is put on top with more cheese and your toppings. It is a hefty pizza, but sooo worth it!! We agreed we will try the double dough pizza next. Their storefront is small, but the service was great! We placed our order on the phone and we were told about 40 minutes. That was more than fine with us! It's a simple counter when you walk in, but it smelled delicious and we didn't have to wait long to pick up our order. Delicious pizza at a great price. There are so many great pizza options around me. Tortorice's sticks out with a high quality pizza. They are using prime ingredients and you can tell. For a thin crust pizza, it is fairly thicker than most. Slightly doughy in the middle and crisp on the outer edge. To me the best part is the sauce - plentiful and flavorful. The cheese was not dried out and the pepperoni was good. Don't let the outside plain sign fool you. There is nothing plain about the pizza. As for the service, we made the order with ease and it was quickly available for pick up. Was pipping hot when we got. I personally say it rivals Nino's right down the road. I like them both and will continue to order from both. The sauce has a little more unique flavor over Nino's. Check it out! read more

I recently moved into the area and ordered a pizza from a local spot for me and my girlfriend. After checking out some reviews on Yelp we decided on Tortorice's. It wasn't a complicated order, we wanted a deep dish with green pepper and one-half with Italian sausage, and one-half with meatballs. We drove to pick it up and when we returned home we opened a bottle of wine and started eating our pizza. To our surprise, and disappointment we discovered that the pizza had zero green pepper! I doubled checked the receipt and my request for green pepper was right on top of the ticket so it would have been the first thing the cooks should have seen. Being upset that they messed up my order and that I paid for something I didn't get I called them up. The person who picked up put me on hold to ask the cooks about the order and returned to say that he didn't notice the request for green pepper. Again, it was the first thing on the requested ingredients. I was told they could make me a new pizza right now or I could get a credit for a new one to use at another time. I told them since we were already more than halfway through our bottle of wine it would be best to use the credit another time. I wrote down the person's name so that there wouldn't be any confusion later. This evening I called to use the credit and I asked for the person I spoke with and was told they weren't in today so I told my story to the person on the phone and to my surprise they did have a record of my situation so I placed an order for exactly what I tried to order last time. The person on the phone then gave me a total so I told her I wanted to use my credit. I was told I only have a credit for $4! Originally I drove all the way there to pick it up, they mess up my order, they offer to make me a new pizza to make up for the mistake or give me a credit for a new pizza, then when I try and use it they say the credit is only good for $4??!! There are way better pizza places in the area like Joe's, Lou's, and Nino's. I won't be wasting my time here again. read more

I thought I had written a review for this place not too long ago but I guess not as I don't see it. Anyway, this carry-out pizza restaurant is a good place to get delicious variety of pizzas. Whenever, I am in the mood for good (non-generic, non-chain) pizzas and I happen to be in the area, I go for Tortorice's. They have been around for a while. In my recent visit, I got three different pizzas. I ordered one 16" thin crust (small squares tavern style)cheese pizza, one 14" pan green peppers and onions pizza and one 12" pepperoni deep dish. The previous time I was here, I think I had ordered a stuffed and Chicago style thin crust so this time around, I went for a different variety. We ordered the food over the phone and we were told it would be ready in about 35 min. We got there in 40 min. and our pizza was hot and ready to go. Our bill was about $53 and some change after a coupon discount. The pizza smelled so good that I could hardly wait to eat it. I liked all the three pizzas but my favorite was the tavern style thin crust, followed by the pan and then the deep dish. The thin crust was just perfect. Soft front and crispy back crust. It's best consumed while hot. The pan was not dough(y) as I thought it would be which is good. I hate dough(y) crusts. The veggies with the sauce and cheese made for a good tasting pizza. The deep dish was just fine. I like my fair share of deep dish and stuffed pizzas. I don't care if they are considered touristy or not original Chicago style or what have you. Anyway, check out Tortorice's. They are pretty good. It's a local establishment that serves good pizzas and they are worth checking out. read more

So I periodically review them again with fresh taste buds. Tortorice's does not disappoint. I got the Tortorice special this weekend - thin crust with onion, green pepper, sausage, and mushrooms, and the pie was perfect. Piping hot, not greasy, and very crisp and firm veggies! I ate 3 or 4 squares and I was full. This is the epitome of Chicago thin-crust pizza. Perhaps a little thicker crust than some places, but just right for the ingredients on top. If you have not tried Tortorice's and like pizza, make sure you order from here sooner rather than later! read more

I'm house sitting with a sick child and I called and they refused to redeliver the missing ingredients. Said the manager that handles problems was not there and the cook said that he put everything in. I asked that they please redeliver because I was 3 blocks away. The restaurant gave my order to someone else.. then when my Uber driver arrived for my order, they refused to remake the order and kicked her out and turned off all the lights. Burnt cheese deep dish pizza, that is all. This is definitely a unique spin on a Chicago pie and with so many options around this specific place for deep dish pizza, the burnt cheese crust definitely stands out. I have ordered here twice, once for delivery, and once for pickup. Both times were excellent! I have had their burnt cheese deep dish pizza twice now and it is excellent! A great ratio of sauce to cheese and that burnt crust to round it out is something special. I have also had their thin crust and their Chicago thin crust which is basically extra chunky tomato sauce on a thin crust pizza. Both are also excellent options, but I am a fan of the deep dish. Service for pickup was easy and the pizzas were piping hot and fresh out of the oven. I'll definitely keep ordering from Torotice's again. read more

The outback pizza was amazing! The BLT pizza was awful!!!!!!! I was expecting a pizza with bacon, lettuce, tomato with mayo as the sauce. What I got was something else! It was a bacon, sliced tomato pizza with tomato sauce baked with wilted lettuce and mayo squirted all over. It was so nasty! A local competitor has a blt pizza and it is baked pizza crust with mayo sauce topped with cooked bacon, fresh chopped lettuce and tomato. It is great and light! I just want to say Tortorice's really goes above and beyond for their customers! I ordered through their online menu (about a week or so ago) and always get an "how can we improve" email after the order is delivered. I first want to say they have a really good roast beef sub, but the last time I ordered it, it was different than usual and fell apart. The other food we ordered was great as usual. I filled out my "review" more so for my own selfish reasons for wanting them to go back to how their subs used to be. I just checked my email and they apologized and gave me a refund! First I want to say that the owner of Tortorice's is very nice and accommodating. When he saw my Yelp review, he reached out to apologize for the bad pie and asked if he can try to make it better. Since there are so many positive reviews, it makes sense to try them again. A few weeks later, we called in to have the stuffed pizza remade (comped by the restaurant since our last pizza was inedible) and we also tried the Chicago style based on his recommendation. Stuffed pizza with half cheese and half spinach and sausage: happy to report that the pizza was thoroughly cooked this time. The pie was tasty and the ingredients were fresh. The price was also decent for the size of the pizza. Chicago style with half cheese and half spinach and sausage (identical to the stuffed so I can compare): I am not sure how I feel about this one. It's exactly the same as the stuffed but without the extra layer of dough on top. I was expecting something a little different - maybe more like the butter crust of the other Chicago style place. I also ordered a gluten-free pepperoni which was great (according to the kiddo) and a Godfather ribeye sandwich. I asked for the ribeye to be more on the medium rare to medium side, but I was told this wasn't possible due to cooking and baking of the sandwich. While the flavor a were spot on, it did come out well done - a little too dry for my liking. A nice bump up to 4 stars this time. Tip: if you are trying to achieve the lofty goal of eating pizza every day for the week you are in Chicago, Tortorice's might derail such noble and ambitious plans--not in a bad way, it's just an intense dose, like pizza on steroids. I am ashamed to say I didn't attain the pizza every day badge of honor (self-invented), though I would not blame Tortorice's but rather my own weakness. My coworker who is a local suggested Tortorice's to us visitors, easily convincing us with the description of the double-decker Picasso pizza i.e. crust-cheese-crust-cheese-then-toppings. We decided to order to our hotel in Northbrook. Oddly, when I called the Tortorice's a similar if not closer distance away, they said that we were outside their delivery boundaries, but the second one was fine with the order. The delivery man did seem pleasantly quizzical about how I heard about them when we talked in person, so I guess it's not often that they deliver to that area. It's nice that they take credit card and you can add tip and finish the transaction upon delivery without cash. Everyone was pretty hungry by the time the large Tortorice's special, which is like a classic combo pizza, arrived accurately estimated an hour after ordering, but I don't think anyone could stomach more than one piece of the loaded pie. The cheese crust layers were not distinct to the eye, but it was clear after downing a slice that it was not a normal pizza. One of my coworkers was sweating profusely from eating it, like he was battling a formidable opponent. I felt cocky and proceeded to split a second slice with him but after a few more bites let the cheese and toppings slide off the bread sadly and, defeated, hung my head in shame. Really good! Having grown up on the South Side of Chicago, there was a pizza place on every corner. I suppose I was spoiled by the amount of different pizzerias there were. This is reminiscent. I believe they must go light on the sauce, since I ordered it with extra, and it was the perfect amount. The pizzas are very well made. The sauce is sweet, which I enjoy. After years of eating good food at Tortorices, I am now so disappointed. We ordered beef sandwiches and the beef was overdone with a weird aftertaste. French fries were undercooked and had a fishy taste. And they changed the coleslaw recipe that is not as good. It's very sad but we won't be returning. read more
