Call me weird, but when you first deal with a business, you want as minimal interactions as possible until you are acquainted with them. Anyone else? Ok, maybe it's just me, but when I was looking for a place in downtown to do my nails during my lunch hour, JJ Nail salon came up on my search. When I visited the website, I can pick my staff and make an appointment right there. How convenient!!! The website even allowed me to make a few changes when conflict came up! No human interaction... winner!! On the day of the appointment, I was greeted by the friendly staff. I was initially going for a pedicure, but decided to do some work on my nails too. I asked if they would be able to do it within my lunch hour, they explained the services they offered, difference between gel and acrylic nails and worked on me as soon as I made my decision. Staff was very friendly and attentive to my needs. Less than an hour later, I got my express pedicure and a gel manicure done. The salon also offers text message promo to remind you to return with their special offers. Of course, you can always opt out if too many text messages annoy you. Now that I've established my aquaintence with them, I will still probably use the online reservation system to make the appointment, but definitely feel comfortable to speak to their staff as well. My sisters and I wanted to give our father a pedicure for Christmas - because he really needed it! LOL. Since we both live out of state it was difficult for us to find a good nail salon until we arrived in HI for the holidays. After checking out one other spot we read about the reviews for JJ Union and went there to check the salon out. Jenny, one of the owners, greeted us and was extremely courteous and friendly, the salon is clean and intimate (only four stations for both manicures and pedicures), and the overall atmosphere relaxing and pleasant. We mulled it over and decided this was the place to send out father so we made an appointment for him (and for myself). When we arrived we were once again greeted by a friendly Jenny and then, per our request for a specific seat at the end for my father, we were seated in the pedi chair to soak in some pleasantly warm and sanitized water. And then our pedicurists came to us - I had Hong (sp?) and my father had Helen. I cannot begin to describe appropriately how totally and extremely happy we were with our pedicures. Both Hong and Helen took A LOT of personalized care of our feet. This was my father's first and my umpteenth (I live in NY and get pedis all the time). I can say unequivocally that it was THE BEST pedicure I have ever had!!! The only thing I am sorry about is that JJ Union Nails is not in NY, because if I had a choice I would not go to any other salon ever again!!! Unfortunately I do not live here, but I recommend to everyone who is reading this to MAKE AN APPOINTMENT and experience the wonderful pedicure this salon has to offer. (I believe they also take walk-ins, but making an appointment will guaranty quality time with an experienced and friendly nail tech there.) Great little nail salon with awesome service and prices. They were able to get us an appointment at our desired time. The staff was friendly and were easy to have a conversation with. The shop was very clean, smelled good and comfortable. We got a pedicure and extra foot massage. I would definitely go back and recommend to a friend. Parking is a bit tricky, but we parked at Walmart and just walked over, it was free validation with a 10$ purchase at Walmart which there is always something to buy there. I called last night hoping for a 10 am appointment but they were booked so Jenny set me up with a 8:15 appointment. I got here at 8 and they were closed! They listened to what we want and while they advocated for gel nails, they weren't too pushy. They did a great job on our manicures and pedicures. I don't usually write reviews for places but I felt the need to write a review for this place. Today I was planning on getting my nails done without calling in for an appointment because it was kind of a last minute decision and I felt that I deserved it after getting my license the other week :) Anyways, I originally planned on going to this salon right on Fort Street Mall, but when I had arrived, she told me she was booked for the whole day and had room for tomorrow, but I worked the next day so that wasn't an option for me. I was pretty bummed out cause I really wanted to get my nails did today, so I went onto Yelp to look up nail salons around the area and I stumbled upon JJ Union Nails. I wasn't too familiar of the name of this salon because I hadn't seen it around downtown so I looked further into the location and it's kind of hidden. It's in the first floor inside this building that's across of Ninja Sushi and right by the building with the HPU souvenir store. You want to walk down the hall and you won't miss the salon because it's so bright with its flashing open sign lol. Anyways, walked in and noticed the awesome fish tank and was greeted by Jenny! I didn't make an appointment ahead of time and she was just about to see somebody for an appointment so she told me to come back in about an hour or so. I was fine with that because I went to grab a drink from Starbucks and chilled reading the reviews on Yelp. Not even an hour had passed and she called me saying she could take me in. Sat down and we discussed about what I wanted for my nails and she went straight to work. I originally didn't want to get any studs or jewels on my nails because I had the vision of getting just plain white almond shaped nails, but looking at her display of nails and her work I decided to put little gold gems on each nail, but alternating it with the ring finger. Jenny was super friendly and she made the whole experience very comfortable. There was no discomfort throughout the process and she is very detailed oriented and professional at what she does! She often confirmed with me and double checked during the process of getting my nails done if the length and shape was okay, and me being sort of the shy type, she reassured me that I could speak up anytime I wanted just in case if I wanted something different with the nail shape. The whole process was very comforting and the chairs too were comfortable to sit in too. Comfy chairs are a must lol. The prices too were very reasonable and fairly cheap for the quality and service that she provides. She also ended up giving me the gems on my nails for free because I was a new client! (Will be a returning one too). In comparison to the times that I've been going to get my nails done, this is by far the best experience I've had and I'm glad that the other salon didn't work out because my experience at JJ Union Salon was just excellent. I just had the best pedicure of my life! I tried JJ Union Nails for the first time today. The place is clean, quiet and relaxing. Relaxing music and videos of beautiful beaches and waterfalls play while you sit in new massage chairs and get excellent service. Everyone speaks English. I hate to even mention that, but I hate places where they speak a foreign language while they work. I had the classic pedicure. All the usuals with a scrub and a long massage. The massage was amazing. She worked out all the sore spots. No rushing, VIP service here. Brows were also waxed and look great! I will be back. I wish they did hair so I could do it all in one place. After my nail tech retired, I tried to find a replacement. After a disaster with a Waikiki shop, my girlfriend, Jaci, recommended JJ Union Nails, Jennie. My schedule is a regular manicure every two weeks and a pedicure once a month. Jennie is now using Gel nail polish and so far, I am amazed. My nails do not chip, the polish is perfect after 3 weeks. I use my hands daily and it is wonderful. I can now go every 3 weeks for a gel polish manicure and every 6 weeks for a pedicure. Both Jennie and her brother Hong, are excellent. He is also a massage therapist and if you want to feel wonderful, have him give you a hand and arm massage. My boyfriend, Jack, went to Hong for a pedicure. He told me he has never had a better pedicure. Hong also made his heels feel like silk and Jack said the foot massage is superb. We are grateful to both of them for their talent and time. I was suffering from a lower back pain. Nothing really help even went to physical therapy but that didn't help. I was in pain for about 8 months, standing for 8 hours at work was really painful on my lower back. One day I decided to check out Groupon to see if they got any good massages at a decent price. There we're several but I decided to try JJ Union Nails. July 30 th I called The business and a young man answer, his name is Hong And was so helpful and patient with me and I made an appt to get a massage. I got kinda lost and he patiently gave me directions to get to the business and even met me out side of his salon. He took me into his salon and explained what kind of massage he was going to give me after I explained what kind of pain I've been suffering. I had a 60 minute massage. After the massage , I felt less pain and went home and rested and the next day I woke up pain free. I'm going back to see Hong again for the massages. I can feel that my lower back will be getting back to normal with Hong's massages. I will definitely refer my friends and family to go see Hong for massages. read more

A husband and wife owner. Wife did French mani gel and regular pedi. She was immaculate, but not as experienced as other places; she wiped off and redid 3 nails. The husband also tried to help out but seemed like his experienced was limited, putting foil on my nails to take off the gel and it not being secure enough to fully take off the gel.
