I love that they give you a nice cold class with your pop (if you're not a beer-lover) and I love the regular fries, but the curls are super good too! Beer cheese dip all the way! When I first heard, several years ago, that two experienced downtown Fargo bar/restaurant owners intended top open a burger and beer place, and name it after Jim Lauerman, I was skeptical. Wasn't the burger segment saturated? What possibly could be new? But I was wrong, and several dozen visits later, must give JL Beers the respect they deserve. Tonight's visit, like every visit...fast service, cold menu items cold, hot menu items hot, tasty, in and out in 25 minutes. The new Jalapeño Burger is my new favorite, but it's like choosing your favorite child, there are to many good options to focus on one. Great atmosphere, and gradually adding more local beers. Nice and clean, plenty of beers on tap, and the guys working there were extremely friendly. Welcomed us, offered suggestions, gave us samples of different beers, and checked in on us after we got our burgers. Even gave us post cards to send to our families! After we finished writing them they even took it upon themselves to mail them out for us. Great chips made on the spot, bread for our burgers was as fresh as could be. Stopped in Fargo to overnight on a long road trip. Forgot how we found out about JL Beers, but we did and we went, and we are huge fans! Yes the place is small, but the energy is good. Everyone working there appeared to be happy to be there, happy to serve you, and happy that you were there. A refreshing change. Cheeseburgers are simply the best. I am a big Five Guys fan, but JL Beers tops that easily. Very fresh, simple, well prepared and tasty! Fresh cut fries are great, and we were pleasantly surprised that our split order had been divided onto each of our plates. The postcards are also a nice touch - how did they know I was from Chicago? :-) Wish there was a JL Beers closer to home. Oh yeah, and the on-tap beer selection is very good! Small burger joint in downtown Fargo. Their beer selection is like a vast oasis in the most barren of deserts, large enough to satisfy the most soused of soaks. Friendly staff and fast service. I do love the taste of a good burger, my personal favorite being the 1st Avenue Burger. If you get fries, the beer cheese dip is a must. For my money, I prefer this location due to the downtown atmosphere and after all, it is the original JL Beers. If anything's worth doing, it's worth doing right. I was not a huge fan of JL Beers, while the food was good, the fact that I could not move more than 2 inches without hitting another person and the fact that I could barely hear anyone else at our table turned me off to the whole experience. I've been to JL Beers 4 times over the past year, and each time it is worse than the time before. I seriously doubt I will ever go back again. We ordered "Dead Guy Ale" on tap... and the beer had totally been sitting in the keg way too long and had totally turned bad. This place is fantastic. The beer selection is one of the best you can find in town. The only downside is they do not use correct glassware for all beers. The burgers are also very delicious and perfectly cooked. They are priced waylower then what they could be. The sides are fresh cut fries or chips and are absolutely delicious. They are bit pricey but well worth it. (Get some ranch for dipping its dynamite!) Also they do charge a cost for water that comes in a bottle. Not really a huge deal to me because they charge about 8 or 9 dollars for a terrific burger and fresh fries or chips where a lot of other places would charge a couple dollars more. JL Beers is great. The beer scene in Fargo is nothing compared in Minneapolis, but this one place alone makes it better than Winnipeg (sadly). A good selection of taps of craft beers. I pulled into Fargo after a long 4+hour drive looking for something to welcome me to ND. The JL Burger and a side of $3 french fries was delicious. Everything tasted great but you will notice JL Beers gets one start from me, if that. The reason behind this is JL Beers would not serve me a glass of water. In fact the waitress informed me they will only sell you bottled water and do not serve water otherwise. Went there with my mother on friday night to eat burgers. When the server asked for my ID i totally forgot to bring it since i see this place as more of a restaurant than a bar. I was starving and i was hoping they'd just say it was ok in the end since all I wanted to drink was pepsi. The server brought her manager over while her manager stood over my shoulder while i was looking for my ID. In the end when i said i couldn't find it he just said "sorry guys" and ran off as quickly as he could before I could even say anything. I found this VERY rude and i feel like he could've at least asked us if we wanted our burgers to go. Also the place was very small and it was hard to find seats. I love this place! The wife and I stop by often and try new beers off the menu. Sometimes they're out of the seasonal ones, but I'm still giving them five stars because it's so much fun.
