My drinks were pretty good, but a bit small for the price.I also thought the Hemingway would be more spicy because of the jalapeno but it was just a warming spice really. We got tons of food. Jury's still out on this one. I had heard about Jm Curley awhile back due its popular boozy milkshakes (like the Crunchy Hipster). Hadn't done my research to check if they were still around, and was disappointed to find out on my visit that they had discontinued these "a long time ago." Still, having just come to the place after dinner, my friend and I thought we'd try other things on their menu. We got cider, cracka jack, and crack. They also gave us free (bacon butter) popcorn. The snacks were pretty enjoyable -- I hadn't had caramel popcorn in awhile, and a surprise presence of peanuts towards the bottom of the bag was a welcome addition! They seem reasonably priced for food - I'll have to come back one day and check out the burger. read more

I came here for brunch on a Saturday. Overall the food was good but service was little slow. The restaurant was bar style- dark and loud music (not my liking). The eggs bennay hunnayyy was delicious. My first time having eggs Benedict with pulled pork. The best part was that I could choose potato tots for side. I found the description "holy guacamole" quesadilla misleading. It was so so. There were only a few tiny pieces of guacamole inside. They gave mostly black beans. Their special made lemonade was very tasty. A little pricey for $6. read more

Surprised to see only a 3.5 average rating. Our experience says closer to 4/4.3. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Great drinks (read, well made, not over not under...) food great too. We ordered the charred cauliflower steak and though kitchen was closed they still accomodated our request for bacon and fried egg. Needless to say, y u m. I definitely recommend giving this place a try! I have been here a few times for drinks and ate here for the first time a couple weeks ago. The cocktail and beer menu is great. They have a huge selection of craft beers and a pretty big list of interesting and very tasty cocktails. It is definitely a little hipster with an eclectic set of bartenders. But I think that makes it more fun! The food is also great! I had the mac n' cheese which was awesome. Definitely homemade and very rich. My boyfriend had the burger special which looked amazing. I like this place. Although I didn't enjoy my food, the atmosphere had a cool vibe... including the music. Also our waiter was awesome - he made a fresh pot of strong coffee just for us and had a kind, friendly manner. Sadly, that's where the praises end. I actually think I would go back here for a burger and a beer... but we're here to talk about breakfast. We Googled reviews to find a place near downtown Boston that had a great Eggs Benedict, and saw a lot of positive reviews for Jm Curley. So we were excited. Because Eggs Benny from scratch is life! But as you have probably already surmised, the restaurant didn't live up to its breakfast reputation. The menu says "BLT Eggs Bennayyy - 2 poached eggs, housemade biscuits, Hollandaise, spinach, bacon, tomato....$15." Sounds like something approximating a classic Benny yes? Sounds delicious! Well what we got was a sort of a 'play' on Eggs Benedict - the Hollandaise had a strong Southwest flavor to it. Nothing wrong with that, but not what we wanted and not what the menu purported. We went ahead and ate it anyway rather than making a fuss. But to be quite honest, even for a Southwest Benny, it wasn't good. In part it was the overall flavor profile of the Hollandaise (there was something "off" about it), and in part it was that the eggs were overcooked - none of that glorious runny yolk that makes a Benny so special. Just a disappointment all in all. It's also worth mentioning that the Mimosa I ordered only had a few drops of OJ in it. It was essentially a glass of champagne - with color. Don't get me wrong - it's better to put too much champagne in a Mimosa than too little. I did ask for an extra shot of OJ so I could actually have the Mimosa experience... the bartender gave me a bit of a weird look when I did so though... he was almost moody about it. Thought that was odd. If I do go back, I'll stay away from the Benny and order a glass of OJ on the side with my Mimosa. And avoid the bar lol. read more

The restaurant was fairly busy on a Thursday night, but was able to accommodate our small group of three right away. Unfortunately, from that point on, the same prompt service was nowhere to be found. We had been seated for over twenty minutes before our server arrived at our table. When we did receive our food, however, we were satisfied. It was clear that my veggie burger was homemade - I could taste the sweet potatoes and black beans that composed much of the patty. Size-wise, it was considerably larger than the bun, which I didn't mind, since the patty contributed a nice crunch of its own (rather than the mushy consistency typically associated with burger joints that do the bare minimum to appease vegetarians). The caramelized "griddled" onions and jm Curley's signature "jamama" sauce were welcomed details, although I skipped the slice of white cheddar that usually accompanies them. Pretty decent burger and Mac and cheese entree as well. Good beer and wine menu, although they were out of several of the more I treating beer options. Service was a little spotty at times. We had to flag our waitress down one time we wanted another drink and then order through someone else the second time because we couldn't find our waitress. Also, I understand a bar playing music, but it was way too loud, and the selection of primarily hip hop/rap (even though I love hip hop and rap) didn't seem to fit the vibe of this place. Went with my girlfriend on a Thursday night! The wait for a table for two was about 45mins but we got lucky and found a spot at the bar (first come first serve). We had some boutique brewer beers accompanied with fried honey coated corn dough than my girlfriend had their famous burger, and no wonder it is the best in town while I had their fried chicken which is nothing short than the best I've ever tried! We than concluded our meal with their s'mores maple brownie, the perfect size to end a great dinner! Yelp summed it up: "Meh. I've experienced better." My mac and cheese had absolutely zero flavor. I saw the girl next to me order the same mac and cheese dish and load it up on salt. Then I got my mac and cheese, and I had to do the same thing. My boyfriend ordered a medium rare burger with french fries. The burger was dry, but the fries were soggy- an odd combination. In addition, my diet coke was flat. I asked for another one, and they gave me one that was slightly less flat, but still flat. Oh, and it wasn't even diet coke it was diet pepsi... I am confused as to how this restaurant has four stars. Jm Curley has a nice atmosphere and I experienced good service here. The food was completely terrible though. I just came here for brunch, and my girlfriend got the 5oz. burger for $14. She got a tiny burger that tasted like a McDonalds Big Mac (except much smaller) served with soggy fries. I get that these "grass fed" burgers are supposed to cost more, but the quality was so bad here. The bun looked like it came directly from Costco. It was served on a piece of wax paper and we were given plastic forks and knives... I got the french toast, and that was also a ripoff. For this dish, $14 got me two flavorless pieces of french toast with a puddle of whip cream on top and a few tiny pieces of fruit. I've never had a worse brunch in the few years that I've lived in Boston. I wanted to say something to management, but I didn't even know where to begin. I'm surprised that any business would charge this much for food that's so underwhelming. I won't be coming back. I was here on a Thursday night and the music is obnoxiously loud. There were only 10 people (they could easily seat 80+), so what gives with the music? This isn't a club. It was bad music, too. Someone else had to get the bartender's attention for me so I could put in my order. There was only one other person at the bar, of course. I then had to ask her about all the "ask us about" items on the menu. Individually. What's your burger special? What's your soup du jour? What's your seasonal beer on tap? What about the seasonal deviled eggs? Give me a break. The deviled eggs were so-so and I'm 98% sure that the bartender poured me the wrong beer. This is a fun place! I've been a couple times now and have gotten cast iron mac and cheese both times: once a pulled pork mac and once the lobster mac. I've also gotten the fried pickles. All of the food was excellent and the service was very good. The place is small and can get pretty loud, so I'd avoid it if that's something that bothers you. The names of a lot of the items were cutesy in a way that would make me feel embarrassed to read them aloud, but that's not a huge issue. Overall, it's a nice place and I'd recommend checking it out if it sounds like your jam. read more

We came here to avoid the lines downtown for St. Patrick's Day. They didn't have any tables available but we got some space at the bar. I had the Nuthouse cocktail which was delicious, and strong enough for the $14 price tag. For my meal, I had the T-Money Mac which tasted delicious and fresh. Bartenders were friendly and attentive and the atmosphere of the place is nice. A few times the music got super loud for some reason which made it hard to talk to my friends but overall, it was a pretty chill atmosphere. This place tries too hard to be hipster. I come here every year for my friend's birthday since she likes it. However, every time I come back, I still find it underwhelming and annoyingly hip. We have a group of 8. 7 of us arrived, but they wouldn't sit us until our full party arrived. The entry is so tiny so we hovered and stood in the way of the doorway dodging people as the entered exited until our last person arrived. Once we sit, we order our drinks and food. This food is not filling and expensive bar food. Paying 8 dollars for two deviled eggs seems unreasonable. And honestly I can't even remember what else I ate. Additionally, the service is awful. Our waitress rarely came by and she played it off as the cool, hipster waitress who could care less about our experience. I do like the fried pickles so that's good. read more

JM Curley is one of those places that always seems to get suggested for dinner, but I had never actually made it there until recently when my friend and I wanted some pub food after seeing Wonder Woman on the Common. We got an order of fried pickles to start, which were very good with a kicky spicy sauce, and then we both got burgers, which were cooked as we had asked and had great grilled flavor. So why the 3-star rating? Two reasons: (1) Both the pickles and the burger were piping hot, and not in a good way. Even after waiting a couple of minutes to start eating, I lost a layer of mouth-skin to each one, which dulled the flavors and gave me a sore mouth for two days. They must have *just* come out of the fryer/off the grill. I'm all for food not being cold, but you shouldn't have to wait 10 minutes to eat it safely. (2) Everything on the menu here looks good, but everything also seems to have one ingredient too many. For instance, the burger comes with cheddar, grilled onions, pickles... and Russian dressing. (Whyyyy would you do that to a normal burger?) My Refashioned cocktail came with rye, JMC four roses, alpine amaro, dry curacao, AND house bitters. Again, I think you could safely drop one of those ingredients and still have a tasty beverage. Moreover, they seem to charge you for all those extras: the burger, which while good is very basic, is $17, and my modestly-sized drink was $13. That's just a little too much for a little too little. Also, this is not a comment on the food, but it's worth noting: My friend and I are in our early 30s, and we were far and away the oldest people there at 7:30 on a Saturday night. The lighting was so low that my old-millennial eyes could barely read my menu, and the music, while enjoyable ('90s top 40 pop FTW), was so loud we had to scream-talk across a small table. Not really my scene. Overall, not the worst place I have been for pub grub, but not somewhere I would necessarily seek out again. read more

We were told they have the best burgers in Boston, so we wanted to give jm a shot. We ordered salmon sliders, the regular burger and the pork chop sandwich. The food was all good, but it wasn't the best burger. Pop's Russian sauce was delicious though. We just ordered lemonade and waters for drinks. The first lemonade had so much ice the drink was gone in 3 sips. The waitress corrected the problem on the second round and was nice enough to take the first one off the bill even though we didn't ask. We were sitting close to the door and it was extremely cold. I know how annoying it can be to ask to play musical chairs in a busy restaurant, but knowing how long a fried pork chop and burger take to cook we asked if we could order and wait for another table and were told we could do one or the other (not in a rude way!) and I found that slightly odd. We were at the Boston Opera last Thursday for a show and wanted a place close by for dinner afterwards with our kids (after 10 Pm). This place is just a couple of blocks away. Had great burgers and amazing skillet mac n cheese. They were quite friendly although the service was slowish and the table and cutlery weren't exactly spotless. Came here on a Thursday night at 11 PM after seeing a Broadway show, right when they were switching to their late night menu, which is half of their regular menu. When I arrived my party along with another party were greeted with an empty host stand and were left wandering around for a good 7 minutes until a bartender told us to wait back at the stand. We were given 8 menus or so for a party of three and it was confusing since some menus were not part of the late night selection. The drinks were great! I ordered a grilled cheese and it was pretty good. Their fries were NOT GOOD. Not even their cheesy fries served am a skillet were good! They were soggy fries. This place is really dark at night. So dark I needed the use my flashlight on my phone (maybe I'm just blind??). It's also really really loud here, so not an ideal place if you're looking to converse. read more

Here's the gist: I still love this place, despite the changes I outlined below. I still recommend it to friends and take people there. It's a staple of the area and if you haven't gone, you should go. Get a burger and some fried pickles and a cocktail. Try and go early to get a good table or spot at the bar because it fills up quickly. A long time ago, I used to live around the corner and went at least once a week for 2 years. It was "my place". I had two birthday celebrations here and I loved the staff and the food and specifically that they had a $9 and $11 cocktail list. Then, they had some issue with a pipe bursting or flooding and they were closed for a while. Reopened with a whole new staff and menu; the prices went up and the food wasn't as reliably good. They took my favorite cocktail off the menu and changed the bar program quite a bit. Unfortunately it's not the same joint it used to be but it's still a solid spot and I pop in every once and a while to see what's new. read more

My mom really enjoyed the veggie burger. They also have a killer beer selection. However. The service was absolutely awful. I don't usually take off 2 stars for service, but this was bad. I'm pretty sure there was only one server in the whole place on a Saturday at lunch time. The hostess sat around doing pretty much nothing while we waited nearly 20 minutes for water. Wow! Walking in, you expect your standard pub fare. I was blown away at the elevated food experience, the freshness, creativity, and the quality. The craft cocktails were absolutely delicious too. We got the bangarang, off to the races, and what's up don cocktails- all really unique (there's carrot juice in the don!) and just the right amount of sweet, tart, spice, etc. From the food menu we got the watermelon panzanella (so fresh!), lobster arancini (need I say more), the steak frites (superb sauce), salt and pepper fried chicken (twice fried, so crunchy!), and the burrata paccheri (house made pasta! In a pub!). Also all the dishes came out plated beautifully and on mismatched antique plate ware, which was a fun twist.
