Was visiting my daughter for the weekend and made reservations for a small group of family and friends. The place has a really nice ambiance and decor. It was Saturday, so the small bar up front was crowded, but we found a place to sit and wait for the rest of our group to show up and had drinks. Our table was ready on time and service was great and friendly. I had the steak and frites. It was excellent. Perfectly done with a nice portion of crispy fries. I really hate to write negative reviews but maybe some good will come of it, trying to be critical in a way that might aid the establishment. I wanted to like this place more. We were a group of 5 after a matinee at the Huntington Theatre. The location is perfect for after a matinee or before an evening performance. Just a 5 minute walk away. The ambiance is great, a pub/steakhouse/bistro well designed, clean and inviting. We got there early before the dinner rush and we chose it because it was open before 5 o'clock for dinner and had a bar. We were seated right away (I had made reservations) in a large booth perfect for our party. The lovely, but very inexperienced (it was her first day!) waitress came right over. After taking our order the waitress left all the menus sitting on our table, and we never saw her again. We waited for our food which arrived but we needed "things". We couldn't flag anyone down until finally I noticed a guy in a plaid shirt going in and out of the kitchen. We were able to get his attention, get what was needed, and start on our meal. I wish I could say the food was wonderful. It wasn't. I ordered the chicken piccata with pasta. The breaded crust looked good but was mushy, the pasta overcooked and, well mushy. One of our party ordered the bolognase which was just OK. I sent mine back and the plaid shirt guy offered to get me something else but everyone else was well into their meal and I had shared a Caesar Salad which was good enough. He asked us to come again, he offered a free entree next time but he never came round and gave me his contact information. So owner, manager, senior staff, I don't know. No one in our party was blown away by their meals. The only exception was the one person in our party who ordered appetizers. We should have all done that and shared. That seemed to be what they could do well. Lesson learned. We were hungry, it was convenient. I hope it was "start up woes" because it has a lot going for it. read more

Fabulous dinner earlier tonight with three friends. We started early (4pm) and were fortunate to beat the Red Sox game crowd. Drinks and beers emerged quickly followed by appetizers and a few entrees. Wait staff were exceptionally helpful, informative, and patient. Three orders of oysters, truffle fries, a house burger, chicken fritters, and a middle eastern themed appetizer. All delicious. read more

When we first stopped by the Westland, the front room was packed and we were worried we would not be able to find a spot. Luckily, there's a bunch of tables towards the back and we were able to secure a cute red booth. The servers were all really nice and attentive, giving us good reservations and checking in with us brought the meal. The Caesar salad was really good (lemony, which we liked). Nice find in the northeastern area! Apparently, we happened upon a piece of history. You can tell immediately that you walked back in time from the black and white tiled floors and big leather booths and nostalgic decor . We visited prior to a show at The Huntington Theater. You actually get a free dessert with your ticket! We were the first ones in and it was really nice inside. There were so many tables and a huge bar area. Two of us had the Sesame tuna on the udon noodles. I absolutely loved it! The amount of tuna was way more than I thought they would serve. The fish and chips was good but rather small. The chicken picatta didn't really have much flavor so I wouldn't recommend. Service was great until it got busy. Overall, I liked it. Decent sit down place with comfortable seating. The bathrooms are kinda nice but I have some notes. The server was good. The food... I guess you just need to know what to order and be very specific because they cater well to people who are not very adventurous and like a lot of oil/butter. Came here in the late afternoon after an event looking for a nicer experience and wasn't disappointed, but also wasn't impressed. The drinks were fine though! I'm start with the drinks, while I appreciate that they had "not-tails" for only $5 I felt a little ripped off for the limeade I got. It was clearly just a lot of lime juice, simple syrup, and sparkling water. But it wasn't very sweet, not much of an -ade. My friends got the $15 cocktails and liked them but again not very sweet where you expect sweetness. For the food: our table got a variety of things and I would say the things that looked the best were the flatbread and the Cesar wrap. Wings were fine and I tried one that was ordered to be "extra crispy" and it was nice. The beet salad looked decent but I didn't taste it. My friend who ordered a burger was disappointed to discover that they don't put any sauce on the burger. I don't know if that's a standard thing but make sure you order sauce for your burgers! I got the BLT which was advertised in the menu as being on Sourdough bread. Judging from the sandwich I got I don't think I got sourdough.. more like white bread. And for some reason it was drenched in butter. Wish it was just toasted with mayo! This thing was so greasy. The bacon was super thick which I don't really appreciate. Overall the fries were fine, and the truffle fries tasted very strong so definitely good for sharing. The bathrooms are almost nice. The women's room first stall on the left lock was broken and there was no hook and the door is really tall. So I'm trying to hold it shut reaching way up and the lock is not sitting right. I went to a different stall. The nice touch in there is that there's soap and lotion, but there's no paper towels. Just an air hand dryer. I paid $21 plus tip in total for this meal and while I can appreciate the purpose this place serves, I would not come back unless for the flatbread. read more

My friend brought me here right before we went to a concert at the Boston Symphony Hall. The interior of the restaurant looks really cool with nice lighting for pictures. You know, I kinda liked this place for an easy standby that you can get a seat, with decent bar food and a good choice of drinks. I was at the bar waiting for a friend and went off menu for a basic Manhattan. He kept asking me what whiskey I wanted, I said just the basic Manhattan and didn't spell out "well booze" or whatever one needs to say. He's pointing at the many bottles of rye, bourbon, whiskey and I don't know what's what. I just know I don't want to get killed on some "nicer" booze when I just want a decent Manhattan. Plus I had a vague memory of a friend asking about a certain bourbon a few years ago and ordering a shot with no quick mention from the bartender about how expensive it was (which would be the nice thing to do). Can't remember the price but def. more than $20 and maybe more like $30 something. In any case, we have an app and a sandwich, get the bill and rather than the $15 or $16 I was told it would cost, it was $14 with an $8 surcharge. I thought it was lame and when I asked him, I got flak, "I don't make the prices". We went to an afternoon performance at Symphony Hall and reserved a table for brunch first due to the convenience of the location. 1)Ambiance: nicely appointed. 2) service: adequate and friendly 3) food: A) we each ordered a cup of tomato soup which were both lukewarm. B)I had a burger with a Caesar Salad on side. Burger was over cooked, Caesar was room temperature, (should have been served cool). C) My wife ordered avocado toast special with egg on top which presented very well BUT she could not cut it with the butter knife provided. We went to The Westland prior to the BSO concert and all I can say is, Wow! Service by Megan was spectacular and the food selections were excellent. We had the beet salad to start with grilled shrimp, scallops for main course and apple cider bread pudding for dessert. Drinks and coffee were also excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant. As I was wandering around Boston, I stopped in here for a drink and a bite. Our party was seated promptly in a really gorgeous bar/restaurant. It had a cozy feel-dark wood paneling, booths, two bars. Longgg wait to order a drink at the bar. (ok, willing to overlook, I recognize there are still staffing challenges post pandemic). We ordered one gin and one vodka martini. Pretty standard order. Served in a pretty coupe glass, but it was small and my friends was only about half full. I ordered a dirty martini. Not a hard drink for a bartender. This was the absolute WORST dirty martini I've ever had. Really awful. I should have asked for it to be corrected, but we were short on time...so I let it pass. Went to pay the bill (took me 10 minutes to wave down the bartender...but ok...) Price for 2 martinis...FOURTY NINE DOLLARS!! Yes. You read it right...$49.00!! I did ask if I had been charged for more than two drinks, because the bill was so high. Nope. Confirmed that was the tab for two drinks. Absolutely outrageous! We were greeted by the friendly host who was being very helpful in finding us a seat at the bar on a busy Saturday night and then suddenly hooked us up with a table for 2! The atmosphere was nice and our server was prompt but the reason I won't be returning was the food portion. My partner and I are average size adults but the portions were small! When I said to our server, I'm sorry I know this is backwards...she finished my sentence and said, you want an appetizer? Almost like she's heard it before. The only reason I am giving this restaurant one star is because the ambience was nice and the service was pretty good - very friendly and efficient. As for food, I give this a zero. The menu looks good but we were disappointed with every single thing we ordered except for the wine and the ginger ale. The brussel sprouts were crispy but there was no hint of cilantro or mint as in the description. The calamari was over cooked. There was no crab to be found in the crab cakes and the "risotto" was really just rice. The striped bass was underwhelming. The desserts tasted like they had been purchased last week, frozen and then thawed. This was an expensive faux pas on my part. Should have done more investigation before eating here. BE CAREFUL ABOUT DRINKING HERE!! Hi everyone, I hate having to write this kind of a review, but I want to make sure everyone is staying safe, especially given what's been happening in Boston recently. I went on a date here this month and something happened with my drink. Nothing about the bar seemed out of place or sketchy at first. We started chatting with a lady sitting next to us, who seemed like a regular (she knew the bartender by name). I went to use the bathroom and while I was gone, the woman sitting next to us encouraged my date to put more liquor in my drink and the bartender told him that he would supply it if my date wanted. They could have been joking, but it really scares me that the bartender was in on something like this. Given the rise of peoples' drinks being drugged, I feel like if they were able to suggest it so nonchalantly, it may have already happened on a few occasions or could easily happen again, perhaps even with substances worse than liquor. Be careful about drinking here, especially if you're female/queer and aren't with people you know!! read more

3.25 is the correct rating Ok - we went there at 11:30 on a Sunday morning for brunch - 3 seated tables in the restaurant and staffed in the front of the house with a bartender and waitress - so going to cut them some slack for poor service (indifferent waitress and loud music that was left loud after we asked to turn it down) Again, Sunday morning, trying to get into the swing of things - I'll judge their service fairly if I come back at 6 pm on a Friday night. I am so happy and fortunate to call this my neighborhood bar. The vibes are immaculate, the vittles are fantastic, and the folks are great here. We came here on a rainy Saturday night and had a great time. Our waitress, Summer, was awesome and kept the drinks flowing and kept us in great spirits. The Huntress is a delicious drink - my friends enjoyed the Lawless Skies and Ghost Tears immensely, too. For food, would recommend the parmesan truffle fries, Cajun chicken pasta, and mushroom gnocchi. Absolutely phenomenal nibbles. The space is huge and comfy and it's perfect for a low-key night out. The girls and I came here for brunch on Saturday. Looking at the menu beforehand we were all super excited to give it a try. Our reservation was for 1:00pm and we arrived a little late but they still seated us as we came in and did not make us wait for our whole party, which I appreciated. In total there were 8 of us. 4 of us arrived on time and ordered food and drinks right away. Another girl arrived about 30 min after us. We still hadn't gotten our food by the time she got there. She ordered and received her food before all of us. I think they were extremely busy and overwhelmed because the wait time for the food was really crazy. Now for the food! I ordered the crab cakes Benedict. It was delicious. The crab cakes were seasoned and cooked to perfection and the home fries were just the perfect amount of crispy. We also ordered the cream donut which was oily, came with no cream and the chocolate on top was bitter. I do think the dishes are a hit or miss unless I can just chalk this up to them having a bad day. The rest of the food in my pictures were my friends dishes. They were also mostly impressed with the food and really enjoyed the mimosas as well. I would go back and try this restaurant again because my meal was really good! read more
