This place is cute little cozy spot in downtown Boston. The service was very good and they got our food and drinks out very fast even though we were a large party. The food was delicious and the prices are very reasonable for the food. The portions were a little excessive. We ordered the Mac and cheese and it was more a pasta bowl good for 4 people. The buffalo chicken sandwich is not what you're usually used to but it was delicious. It is not coated in buffalo sauce like most place, you can ask for a side and it is also not spicy either. I loved this place! We wandered in on a whim on a Monday night. All of the bartenders and staff were very nice, helpful and very chill. The espresso martini was excellent and the Crunchwrap is a real crowd pleaser. The tuna poke bowl was a great lighter option as well. I also ordered the Bangarang which was a well-made and tasty cocktail, but too sweet for my personal preference. My daughter and I stopped here while visiting from out of town last week after the Hamilton show at a nearby theater. We were limited to the late night menu because of the time. She ordered the mini corn dogs, a single order of tots, a soda, and I ordered the Bangarang cocktail for myself. The food was good, but it was also just corn dog and tots. I thought the juice blend of the cocktail was really good, but I honestly did not taste any alcohol nor feel any effects of a shot of vodka (felt ripped off on the cocktail.) I was put off by the way that the payment/bill was presented. It had prefilled options of 20% and up. While the server was friendly, I did not want to tip $9+ for minimal service of inflated priced pub food but felt pressure in how the tip options were presented and went with it. Three MINI corndogs + a SINGLE order of tater tots + one dismal cocktail + one soda + 20% tip totaled $56. Not a good value for the product offering in my opinion and still kind of mad about the cocktail. read more

I finally made it here after hearing about the burger and was thoroughly disappointed. I don't know if recent years have changed things but I don't think this burger is worth the steep $22 price point and all the praise about it. Once the restaurant fills up it is impossible to have a proper conversation Drinks: I tried a few of their drafts. Small selection. The seasonal beers were on the sweet side, I guess it is pumpkin spice latte season so the sweet cinnamon beer is also trendy. My coworkers has mixed drinks and they didn't ask for seconds. We all switched to a generic white wine! Food: this is a bar, so conventional wisdom suggests that one should only order burgers and fried food. True to that, the papas bravas with Yukon potatoes aka home fries are heavenly! They are crispy on the outside and buttery starchy inside. So good. Chicken wings are also crispy and well coated in sauce. Hummus: OK, nothing special. $17 is a bit much for a thinly spread plate. Fried pickles: crispy and yummy with the accompanying sauce. On the salty side but I guess it sells more beer that way Steak tartare on toasts: good flavors, but a bit on the chewy side for wagyu tartare Beef wrap: OK. The fails: Mac and cheese with lobsters. The lobsters were in tiny bits, dry and tough. Tuna poke and wonton was inedible! Tuna was salty and fishy. Wonton stale. And the worst offense: the rice was undercooked! Autumn burrata: meh. Drinks were also pretty good and reasonably priced. However, their food was a letdown and my entire party didn't enjoy their food. To the Owner: Great place. Looks really nice. Bar is big and has all what a bar needs. You are just up the street from a Cafe that has a waiting list for close to an hour. No waiting here and no one in the amazing patio you have on the street. You have a nicer physical plant than the cafe down the street. Offer breakfast with at least a few omelettes on the menu. Also get more coffee, cream and butter/jam for the toast as they didn't have any when we were there. This is probably a great bar and can be a great breakfast place if marketed the right way. Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to mourn the passing of whatever experience I previously had at JM Curley. Ok maybe I'm being a little dramatic, but what happened!?!?! JM Curley is still the super laid back late night spot we have all come to love, one of the few places outside of Chinatown with a kitchen open past 11pm. The menu features mainly shareable snacks, salads, soups, and sandwiches. It's honestly been a few years since my last visit, and it's been on my mind ever since. You never forget chicken that good. Just in case I did, my previous review makes it very clear this was among the best fried chicken I've had. That certainly wasn't the case this time. This version was unfortunately very ordinary. Although flavorful, the breading is minimal...which results in a hardly crispy chicken. And the fries? Downright not good...soggy and way over salted. Hm this place was a letdown. To start, the wait for a table was only 60 minutes, butmy partner and I waited for seats at the bar which we got within 30 minutes on a Friday which was magnificent! The service here is interesting. The bartenders are quick, but one male bartender, I believe Shay, was incredibly uninterested in his job which made for an awkward serving experience. Although he offered quick service, the drinks were very weak and he was not friendly at all. My dirty martini was half olive juice & only filled half of the small glass - it was a 3 sipper. He also, not sure if it was purposeful or not, but ignored us a few times. After a few drinks in, one of the female bartenders started to serve us. She was very friendly and also made great drinks which filled the full glass. The food was subpar at best. The start we got the pretzel starter. The dipping sauces (mustard & cheese) were delicious and the pretzels were warm. However, the dish only came with maybe 8-10 mini pretzel bites. My partner got the fish & chips. The fish was tender & delicious, but the potatoes wedges lacked seasoning and were mushy. I got the Nashville hot chicken sandwich. After one bite, I realized this was not a spicy dish nor a juicy one. The chicken was dry, and unfortunately the bun it came on was also incredibly dry. The chicken was unseasoned and had no hint of spice. The only saving grace were the French fries, which were delicious crisp and salty. Perfect for what is it. Space is divey but clean and the rules of conduct on the wall and menus shows an owner who cares about it being a safe place. Service is a little hard to get sometimes. but mostly warm when you have their attention. The fact that their kitchen is open late is the most wonderful thing. It's been a stressful week at work and so I picked a place that would get me a good burger and had decent options for booze. The restaurant is quite loud (almost too loud) but they took our name for a 15 minute wait and by the time we were seated, the rowdiness had calmed down a bit. We got the fried pickles to start. Super hot, thin slices that were battered and served with a tangy dipping sauce. Quite yummy, really. For main course, I chose the "Fire In The Hole Burger" which came with all sorts of spicy stuff including fried jalapenos and a buffalo sauce. It didn't stick together too well but the sauce that fell out went well with the fries. Great service, they were very happy to continue taking our money as we ran up a pretty solid bill for booze. I thought the purée could've had a bit more salt to add flavor. The french fries to my dates burger were mainly tiny sized so I'm assuming it was the bottom of the bag but that's OK. 10/10 Ambiance, lighting was very dim and cozy-- good date night spot. We went on a Friday so music was a little loud and sport game was causing a lot of chatter and noise. Waitress was busy with other tables so it took a little bit for my water refill and to take our orders once we said we needed another minute to decide. CrunchWrap was good, nothing super special and not sure if it's worth the $19 but still enjoyable. Salmon was also good, not fishy and cooked well. The char on the salmon mixed with the yuzu gave off a little bit of a weird smell but flavor was not impacted by it. Storm was very rude as a waiter. she told us there was nothing to order but wings pretty much.. she asked us if we wanted to order anything else as in this is the last last last last call are you sure you don't want anything else very rudely.. She was much nicer to the table next to us and was apologizing about everything being late and not coming out on time when we had the same problem as well, but we did not receive any type of apologies just a attitude as she put our plates down. Stopped by for dinner on a Thursday night before a show because I was told they'd have the best burger I'd ever eat. The burger was delicious and cooked a perfect medium, but I'm not sure it lived up to "best ever". The dressing on the burger was a really nice touch. The side tots were fine. The service was perfect. Everyone was really friendly and we enjoyed our banter with the server and bartender. The beer selection was more than I expected and there were plenty of craft options. Gone are the buzzing days of liquids lunches and hipster speed dating nights, replaced with slightly awkward afternoons in a ghost quiet dining room, buying brunch burgers at nearly twice the price from four years ago. Menu's unchanged (save replacing "er" with "ah" in an oddly supplicant plea to tourists?) so the senses will still be intrigued. Execution has fallen off a bit - the burger (at one time, one of Boston's best)was cool throughout and missing the Pop's Sauce. Rectified and washed down with a $10 Lone Wolf. And did I mention it was near silent? Definitely a more subdued, less patronized jm Curley than time and a comfortable skin would typically yield. Loved the hamburger! Dessert was delicious, a huge fudge brownie with vanilla ice cream. Yum Wait staff is very pleasant and helpful. Atmosphere is a typical bar with casual dining. One unique thing that they had was a sign in the ladies room stalls that (see picture) can help girls on dates. Go up to bar and use these words to signal that your date is scarey. I Loved this. I went to JM Curley with two other Black women last night. We are all graduate students at MIT and were celebrating the end of a very special and successful week with dinner and a movie. At one point our server walked past one of my colleagues and bumped into her pretty hard. I saw her head jerk forward and asked if she was okay. She was. It seemed like an accident so she left it alone. It happened a second time. The server then brought us a check (that we didn't ask for). Again, we were celebrating, so I asked if we could get another round of drinks. He looked annoyed, and said sure same thing? and tried to rush off. One of my colleagues wanted to try something new and asked for a few minutes to decide. The colleague who he bumped into twice said "Hey! When you walk past me here, you keep bumping into me, and hit my head twice. Can you try to be a little more cognizant when you're walking by?" He gave her a weird look and said sure. He then went to the table next to us to check on them, then walked past her and bumped her head again. She didn't say anything, but I saw it and asked her if I saw correctly. She said yes, he did it again. But she did not address it with him. We're now about halfway through our second round of drinks and he comes of and slams a receipt down and says "I can check you out now". We have no clue what's going on, and say we're not ready. He responds with we're done serving you tonight. Still confused, I asked if the kitchen is closing. He said no, she was rude to me (points to my colleague) and I talked to my manager and he said it's okay to stop serving you, so it's time to check out and go. We asked to speak to the manager. We watched him go and speak with the manager for several minutes in the hallway. The manager then comes over and says I can check you out! Then told us the server said we talked to him twice and were rude. (She asked him once and was very polite). He realizes what happens and offers to let us stay and get us another server. We refused and let him know we won't be coming back again, but he needs to talk his server about how he interacts with customers. It would not have been safe for us to stay. The server had already physically hit my colleague in the head three times and then went and lied to his manager in an effort to kick us out. A woman from another table saw what happened and came over to ask if we were okay. Although she was the only one to ask if we were okay, several people from surrounding tables saw what was going on. This was humiliating. We probably would've ordered a third round, as we were celebrating and having good conversations and our night came to an end early because of this. The way we were treated was beyond bad customer service, it was discriminatory. At no point was anyone at our table rude to the server, and letting him know that he was hitting her in the head and asking that he be more aware walking past, was not an unreasonable request. read more

One day I just left Empire Beauty School after getting my hair cut and wanted to try something new- this place is nearby. It looks like a nice little tucked-away place on side streets that aren't main thoroughfares for traffic. It feels very at home when you walk in, it has its own culture and that is something I like. I sat at the bar and was greeted by nice staff willing to have good conversations, not just the small talk, but they actually enjoy talking to their customers and I love that. I tried the macaroni while I was there and I HIGHLY recommend it. It looks small but looks can be deceiving as it is enough to eat in one sitting and fill you- perfect size. That's just me anyways, you can always take it home! If you want somewhere to call home for an hour or two, I would recommend this restaurant based on visual aesthetic and staff! This place looks like a dive. It's low lit, and to be honest if you're walking on the street, you can easily pass by it as there are no fancy signs and the windows are dark. However, when you go in and sit down and look at that menu, you know you want to get their burgers! They have their standard burger and a burger special. They also have other specials on their chalkboard. The burger is awesome. It's a great blend of beef that is packed with flavor. It also has a moistness to it because they cook the patty perfectly. It's a tad small i guess? but that's what the fries are for. They have a decent beer selection to help you wash down that burger. I want to say the best part of the burger (aside from the beef) is the pickles. They are perfectly sliced and complement the burger with some acidity to cut the fattiness of the burger. The fries were crisped perfectly. They offered truffle fries as a special, but i was unable to swap out my regular fries for truffle ones (they should allow substitutions for a fee). The bbq pork sandwich was just aiite. THe sandwich itself was good but the bread flavor was too overpowering. The menu also stated rye, but it tasted more like pumpernickel.
