New dirt, new trees, new drip system.
    brian a.

Incredible business. We hired Joaquin's Landscaping to remove some old vegetation and trees that we wanted to replace. They removed three medium sized trees and they were the only business who came out and said they'd remove the roots as well. Every other business was going to just cut them down to a stump. They also removed a ton of dirt and replaced it with nice, rich dirt to plant seven new fruit trees in. The drip system they installed (and came to fix after my dog chewed thru it) works great! Very communicative thru the whole process. Willing to adapt on the fly and did an amazing job. Can't recommend Joaquin's Landscaping enough.

Our front lawn has been dead and sucks up so much water (not very drought friendly), and we've been wanting to replace it with mulch. Needed someone to dig up dirt/grass 3 inches and apply mulch. We've been searching and getting played around with quotes for over a month until we finally found Joaquin! Not only did he get back to us super quick with a quote, but he was also able to schedule relatively shortly after that. He won't try to sell you extras or overcharge you. He is super reasonable (best quote we got by far), and when it comes to the work - him and his team were super dedicated, fast and got the job done. They arrived in the morning, and were done by mid-afternoon. All super nice guys. We were weary because he only had 1 review, but he told us he's been gardening for over 15 years now and only recently started his own business. So glad we took a chance! We're now looking to hire him to help with some landscaping for our backyard!

Absolutely amazing job done by Jaoquin and the crew. We had a ran down curb that needed some love and Jaoquin provided guidance and design ideas on how it could be redone. Since the curb is shared by 4 units in an HOA we had some struggle to reach an agreement on the best low maintenance design however Jaoquin was super patient while providing feedback and options driving the process forward. In the end, they did a phenomenal job that exceeded our expectations and it was also done very promptly. I would not hesitate to do another project with this company, highly recommended!

Dead palm trees that need to be replaced

We wanted to replace our dead palm trees in our front yard and Joaquin suggested us to replace them with olive trees which we love and are very happy how they came out. Their service and timing was excellent and we will be installing lights for a future project with them.

Claimed he was licensed and bonded. Provided a quote and then when I asked for proof for his license and bond, got ghosted.

Joaquin and his crew did a fantastic job redoing the decomposed granite xeriscaping in my front yard.

We didn't pull the trigger with them until a year later. At that point, we had reduced the scope of the project and so they gave us a new estimate that nearly doubled the price. They told us it was because of price increases over the year. But the reality, as we found out, is that they didn't estimate the price well. Elvia didn't fully read the plans. That was a red flag, but we were excited about the yard, and we knew the other estimates, so we went with it. Most of the process of getting the work done was great. They were done sooner than expected. There were still a few issues. One issue was with fruit trees. They were planting one lime and two oranges, even though we asked for a lime, an orange and a lemon. Elvia tried to convince us that lime and lemon were the same, so we didn't need a lemon; we should just stick with two oranges. We had to insist because, obviously, they aren't the same. The other issue was with the turf. We wanted turf that was more pet-friendly. Elvia told us she would show us some samples before they installed the turf. That never happened. The roll they had didn't appear new. It seemed like a leftover from another job. So they just installed it. We let it go because it was nice. Then, during the walk-through, the turf didn't look great at the time, but we were told that it would be fixed by the end of the day. It wasn't. We could see all the jagged seams. It was coming up in parts, and they were light on the infill, so all the turf was lying down. One small section was three different pieces put together with the blades of the turf, all going in different directions. We had asked for stabilized DG, and in the back after it dried out, it was clear that it wasn't installed well. There were patches that were just dirt. To their credit, they came and rectified it. However, the turf is still subpar. I wouldn't recommend them for turf at all. And the DG is not stabilized. It is poorly graded, and water pools around our garage. When we brought that up, Elvia suggested that they put in a French drain. Which, of course, would be an uncharge. Keep in mind that stabilized DG is almost as solid as concrete, and if graded right, water will flow away from structures, which should be the case with all grading. That's why it's done. So they wouldn't fix that. During the first rains, a lot of DG washed away, which is always an issue with DG. But this was way more than I'd expect with stabilized DG. The biggest issue we've had since is with the drip irrigation. We did drought-tolerant plants. When they left, Elvia told us to water for 5 minutes per day. This surprised us. We believed that new plants needed more water in the beginning. But we listened; they are the pros. We have a water monitoring system, and for the first few weeks, that 5 minutes was 9 gallons of water. Then, suddenly, after two weeks, it jumped up to 25 gallons. Now, as you can imagine, 25 gallons of water after five minutes of drip is a lot. They disagreed and said there was no issue. When I asked how many emitters they had and the flow rate so I could calculate how much water we should expect, the installer had no idea. He said I just installed it. He doesn't help with that. Then a fungus started growing in areas of the mulch where clearly a lot of water had been pouring out. Yet, they insisted it was no issue. Then Elvia said to wait one week, no watering, and they would come back. It rained early in the week. But now it has been two weeks, and I've heard nothing from them. My plants need water. Five of the ones they planted less than a month ago are already dead. I've had to go through the system myself to figure out the issue. That's when I found that they didn't even use emitters. They use tubing with the emitters built in. Which in and of itself is not an issue if you space the plants out well enough. The issue is that there is so much tubing and so few plants that large swaths of my yard are being watered and no plants are there. This means that weeds and other non-desirable plants are being watered. And the emitters that are close to the plants aren't close enough. So for us to use the drip irrigation, which we set up to save water, we'll be using twice as much as it needs to because we're watering places with no plants just to water the areas that do have plants. It should have had emitters directed at the plants. But they weren't. Now I have to call someone else in to make this drip irrigation truly water-efficient or do it myself because Supergreen has ghosted me. Raul, the owner, will never respond to you. I believe that is mentioned in other comments. So don't even attempt to contact him with issues. My recommendation is to find another company. We wasted $20,000.

From the get-go Dayami was very responsive and the only vendor who followed up. Responsive vendors are so hard to find but Dayami was available for me anytime. She responded to my calls/texts quickly and came a few times to meet with me before work started. The main team that worked on my yard was Elio, Santos and Ricardo. They were here every weekday morning around 7am & was proactive in listening to my directions & following up if they had questions. Overall I was happy with the work they did. My front yard had drought tolerant plants & the back has plants & artificial grass. They also installed the automatic drip system & build my gazebo kit. There were a few days they didn't come because of another job which pushed completion by a week. It was stressful as I was leaving out of town and hoped to enjoy the yard before I left. I think for the reasonable price they charged, they did a good job.

We love our new garden and keep looking out the kitchen and living room windows to view it…read morethroughout the day. What we see is a raingarden with coral bells and blue-eyed grass, a mounded berm ringed by manzanita and penstemon, and paths of creeping thyme that Dan and his team created for us. We removed 2146 sq ft of lawn. Our landscape was completed within budget and on time. The Green Grounds team is friendly, punctual, mindful of wearing masks during Covid, and left the site tidy and clean each afternoon. The outdoor bathroom arrived one day prior to when the work was scheduled to begin, and the delivery of dumpster, soil, mulch, plants, and dumpster removal all unfolded as a residential street ballet. Our initial goal was to replace the lawn with a water-efficient landscape with support from the DWP incentive program that offered a $3 for each square foot of turf removed. I provided Dan with a garden plan drawn with colored pencils, detailed comments, some questions, and a list of my favorite drought-tolerant California-friendly plants. Dan patiently responded to my detailed questions about irrigation strategies, design considerations, materials, plants, and codes promptly, line-by-line in my long emails. He provided suggestions based on his experience, brought up considerations, and guided us through the landscape project process. I must emphasize Dan and his team went above and beyond expectations. I will list some examples. 1. An old, neglected, formless and overgrown Yucca tree in our backyard was transformed it into a living sculpture. 2. Blobs of old (excess) concrete at the base of a wall were jackhammered out to create a wider planting bed for the future vegetable garden and sideyard. 3. The team leader noticed a piece of our St. Catherine's Lace plant had broken off, so he took it and planted it in an appropriate spot nearby, saving the cutting and starting a new plant. 4. Our raised beds (that already contained existing vegetables) were surgically fitted with miniature bespoke irrigation systems. I did not expect the Yucca transformation, removing the blobs of concrete, nor for that broken-off piece of our St. Catherine's Lace to be given a second life. These were not spelled out anywhere in our contract. To me, these actions demonstrate care and connection to the garden that was being created. This is kind of wonderful. Dan also provided us an attractive selection of rock, boulder, and mulch samples, later surprising us by bringing by boulders that worked well with the Honey Quartz gravel for the raingarden in both color and scale. Decisions around where to place irrigation controls were solid and logical: the drip irrigation valves were placed in the least obtrusive location in the back of the house, and the smart controller was placed in a location that was easy for us to access. I had not expected an impromptu collaboration making a landscape with Dan and his team. We just wanted to get rid of the terrible, water-wasting lawn. Not only was it thrilling to see my garden design made real, but the experience also turned out to be super-neat. Thank you Dan and Green Grounds!
