My son, wife and me thoroughly loved this authentic Mexican restaurant in Riverside, as we were driving back from Lake Arrowhead towards Irvine. We weren't entirely sure how good the place would be just based on their online recommendations, and especially since we don't frequent dining in Riverside. Since the location is near the University of Riverside, we thought it would be a place for students. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of service, the charm of the place and of course, the food. Both my son and I ordered their special that includes simmering hot cheese enchilada, mouth-watering chili relleno, fresh vegetarian taco and tostada, house salad, along with delicious beans and rice all for just $9.99. Better bring a humongous appetite since they serve a lot of food... My wife asked for veggie quesadillas, custom-made as per her likes, that she completely devoured. The BEST burrito I've ever had in my life. Unfortunately, I discovered this place the week I moved away from Riverside. I've gone twice now and ordered the deep fried burrito. A friend told me about this place, and told me you can ask for any of their burritos to be fried. They have a selection of burritos on the menu that are fried, but I asked for a particular one to be fried and it was the best thing EVER! It's something you'd probably only have once a year for the shear calorie count, but its been almost 5 years since I had one and I'm still dreaming about it! Came here for lunch with my boyfriend and we were immediately seated. There's chips and dip on the house. We ordered the carne asada burrito, carne asada and lengua tacos. Some of the tacos DO come with guacamole whereas others DO NOT. So for those who aren't familiar with it, you can ask the server and she'll let you know since guacamole and sour cream cost extra on the side. The carne asada burrito was refreshing, but my boyfriend thought that it was just okay until you reached the end of it, since that's where all the good juices are. As for my tacos, I really enjoyed my carne asada taco. The sour cream that they have is most likely homemade - none of that store processed sour cream. As for the lengua taco, I was a little bit disappointed. The meat were in big chunks, compared to the ones that I had at King Taco in LA. Not only that, but it was pretty dry - so the guacamole and sour cream saved it. But other than that, I had a good meal here - it really depends on which type of taco is right up your alley. We have been going here for over 19 years. The food is always consistently good. I love the salsa it's spicy and different from every other restaurants. I wish I could buy it by the gallon! I always order the chicken enchilada taxquenas it comes with their delicious green sauce and the dollap of sour cream they serve with it just makes this dish. The beans and rice is really good. Joe's never disappoints but I will say that Joes special fried burrito is much smaller than it used to be the last time I had it (4 yrs ago) and the green Chile sauce was lacking flavor and salt. We live in The OC so we dont get out here often but the fact that we drove out on a thursday during a holiday weekend is a testament to this families reputation and food. I feel the pandemic may have changed things and I hope they get back on track like we all are trying. What i would love to add is the lip gloss kits that a young woman (teenager) is making & selling near the register is worth all the $5 and more people need to be supporting her and purchasing them not only is she showing drive but the product is great!!! It smells great, tastes great and is more emollient than most lip glosses I've found at Sephora, Nordies and these "Influencers" (sivan ayla is one) on the gram who sell crap product for $25!!! Really good Mexican food and service. Everything was so great. The salsa was actually spicy and good. The horchata was tasty and the food was hot and delicious. I had the shredded beef enchiladas with beans, rice and vegetable soup. The vegetable soup was amazing with so much flavor. I've passed this place many times but today is the first time we tried the food. We ordered through Doordash. I had the Enchilada Taxqunas Dinner. I was looking forward to the onions on top but alas, they appear to have forgotten them. The cheese enchiladas were nothing spectacular but the green sauce tasted homemade and good. The beans and rice had a hearty, honest flavor. My girlfriend couldn't decide between the Bean and Cheese Burrito and the Cheesy Burrito so she ordered both, along with a side of the hot sauce to go. There was no option to order chips so we added a note asking if we could get some but no luck. We would've paid extra but oh well. The bean n cheese burrito was fried but not greasy and had a lot of cheese. I tasted some and it was pretty good, even though I don't really like burritos. The cheesy burrito lived up to its name. It was filled entirely with cheese and chiles, then deep fried and smothered with a really good, gravy-like sauce that was slightly sweet. I've never had anything like this dish and I liked it. I can't imagine eating the whole thing though. It was huge. The hot sauce was really good and also lived up to its name. I dropped by on a lark. There was a new Mexican restaurant right down the street, which me and my friend had walked out of. It was not authentic in any way, which is what we were seeking. This was the best little serendipitous stop I have ever made. The food at Templo Del Sol is authentic Mexican food. I ordered the Calabassita Burrito. I had it with shredded beef. The sauce is indescribable. Let me just say that I can usually break down what goes into a recipe by taste. However, the sauce was so complex I could only identify the zucchini and the onions. I could tell that it had been simmered down for many hours into an incredibly "exquisite," (as the menu so correctly describes) sauce. The salsa is also surprisingly fresh. It is made with smoked chilis and fresh-squeezed lime. It tastes like it was made just hours before serving. There was only a whisper of oregano in it, which I occasionally noticed as I heaped it onto perfectly fried, non-greasy, fresh-tasting chips. I can only describe it as pure heaven. I probably consumed too many chips with salsa while I waited for the food. That is a complete tribute to the chips and salsa. It took a long time for the food to come out of the kitchen. It was completely well worth the wait. I told the waitress, who was absolutely gracious and very busy, that it seemed that I was in somebody's home and they had spent hours preparing the sauces just for me. She told me, "Yes. That is exactly what we do." And so it is. Whatever you do, do not miss this spot to try "exquisitely" authentic Mexican food. The best in Riverside. The prices are beyond reasonable. So be generous tipping. Completely worth the stop. This will most certainly become a second home to me. read more

This place has been here forever! If you want traditional "just like homemade" Mexican food, this is your place! Keep in mind, the actual seating area is long and narrow and the capacity is very limited. We were lucky to arrive early and find a place for 5 of us to sit. The salsa that comes with the chips is really good but on the hot side so make sure you order something to drink to wash it down with. I ordered a tostada with rice,lettuce, Pico, guacamole and boy was it yummy and it was huge! My son ordered a burrito with chicken and beans and rice wet with red sauce and cheese. This was also huge! By the time we were half way done with our dinner the place was packed and there really isn't any room to wait around inside so there were people waiting outside in the cold!
