The food is better than just your average bar food. They have a very good thin crust pizza and the wings are fab. Daily food specials too. Drinks are inexpensive. Very good service. This place was very good!! The chili cheese fries were awesome!! I got a buffalo chicken sandwich which was good but do not share with the kids because it's hot!! However they have waffle fries which are so good and stuffed with potato! The service was excellent and the wait staff was very prompt and brought everything asked! Just stopped for a late lunch here after volleyball at Palos Courts. We were very pleased with the friendly and casual sports bar/pub environment. I went here for a birthday party. I had some veggie pizza which was ok, although it had hardly any sauce and mostly cheese. The crust was also very crunchy. I also had some pepperoni pizza which was very similar to the veggie- hardly any sauce and lots of cheese with crunchy crust. I dabbed some of the greece off with a napkin and the napkin was covered with it. The host asked everyone if they wanted to bring home any pizza and everybody stayed silent. The next day I felt nauseous and sick. Although the food was unsatisfactory, the staff were polite. They turned on some music for us and were just nice overall. I would not recommend the food at all. But if you are looking for the experience go ahead. If you want good pizza instead go to Joe's Italian Villa across the street. read more

I agree with other posters that it's dark in there! I think that it adds to the ambiance. Plenty of TVs, good beer selection and good food. I've been here several times and the food is consistently good. I really like the brushetta pizza - I've had it several times and never noticed "crappy processed parm. cheese" on it as another posted. Yes it does have blue cheese on it -that is what makes it unique and good. The chicken Cesar wrap is also good: homemade dressing, crisp lettuce and chicken has a slight grilled flavor. My husband enjoys the mini burgers which are always cooked perfectly. Overall a good place to grab a beer some bar food and watch a game. read more

Well, I've eaten here several times but lately the food is dynamite. I hosted a business luncheon here and let me tell you, the calimari for a bar was better than most restaurants. They must have changed their crab cakes because these were the real deal and the pizza hello! I couldn't get enough. This is a bar with a great pizza, unreal. Been here several times over about 8 years and the food is always terrible. Even the fries are tasteless. The atmosphere is good if you don't want the 20-something bar scene though eat before you go. Went in there today for lunch with a few co-workers, during what was obviously our lunch hour, and sat and waited for service. Nobody even came to give us a menu or say we will be right with you. Literally there was one other table of two in there so it wasn't like they were to busy. So we waited and waited and finally just got up and left. Went next door to Bon a Pit who has the really great, fast service. I'm glad we didn't bother the server because she obviously seemed too busy, oh wait we didn't get a chance to meet her! read more

Yet another poor performance for JD's. Ordered take out 25 wing special for myself and some friends. Ask for plain and all sauces on the side. I think they have some of the best bar food around. The burgers and wings are great. Prices are reasonable, and the beer is cold. Clean place with a decent crowd. The only down side is the service could be a little better. Some (not all) of the waitresses and bartenders walk around with the biggest frowns and are not friendly. And they are sometimes really slow about checking on tables and seem to be in a hurry to run behind the bar to text on their phones. It's a flip of a coin as to if I will get a good waitress or not when I go into Joe Daniels. Overall though, it's a great place to hang out and have a drink with great food. read more

We used to come here quite a bit, never had a bad experience, things have changed. This place has gone downhill. Where do I start. The women's bathroom is god awful disgusting, I base a lot on a restaurant by their bathroom. 3 stalls & 2 of them were clogged and not useable. Stains on the ceiling not sure if it was mold or what it was but it was nasty. The server was nice but then I watched him chew on his finger nails and proceed to stick his hand in the condiments to put in people's drinks. I wanted to puke, he never washed his hands. My boyfriend ordered the burger medium, we were told it would be "pretty rare" it was well done. We both ordered regular fries, he "forgot" to put our order in that way so we had to wait for our fries which I'm not sure were fully cooked. Needless to say nothing about this experience was good & we will not be back. Completely disappointed. read more

I have not been here in years and I probably will never go back. I met a friend for lunch and we sat at the bar. The place is huge and spacious with a lot of TVs and seating. The bar is big however there is terrible smell coming from behind it, like it needs a good cleaning or at least the drains do. The bathrooms are beautiful, newly renovated? The draft beer selection is limited so I asked the bartender about the bottled options. I was told "We have a a lot, they are in that fridge down there, you can look". She gestured to a half fridge on the floor that had about 3 ladies in front of it eating, since I wasn't about to interrupt their lunch to look at the beers I went with a Jake and Coke. The bartender was attentive though and checked on us frequently . The menu was extensive with typical bar fare, pizza and Mexican food. We split the spinach artichoke dip and each ordered the Italian beef melt. The dip was disgusting. It was almost sour tasting and it was served with tortilla chips and hunks of Italian bread. Now this was probably my mistake for ordering but I gave it a shot. It was obvious it was some cheap, store bought dip. The beef sandwiches were ok. Nothing special. But the gairdiniera was dry, like no oil in it. The bill was cheap. It's an okay place if you were going for a couple of beers, sitting down wind from the bar and avoiding the food. read more

Should have had the pizza. Terrible service and subpar food. Ordered a burger requesting it to be cut in half. It was partially cut in half, no problem except no silverware was provided. We were sitting at the bar and I still waited five minutes for the bartender to cut my stupid burger so that I could eat it. The burger was just tasteless and unappetizing. I also had the baked French onion soup which was ok. My husband had a chicken sandwich that he reports was "just ok". He did not finish his sand which. The fries where crispy and good. We were here last Saturday around 7pm and only the bar side was open for seating. I commented to my husband how lousy the place was and that's when he informed me of the change in ownership. Stopped here with a group after a prior engagement that we attended. The main bar area was too full to accommodate our group, so we had to sit in the side room. That room has a bad ambience with bright lighting and very barren. Shared a number of appetizers, which were just so-so. Service was extremely slow, we had to repeatedly ask for the same things over & over before eventually getting them. On the up-side, the prices are very reasonable...but even with 7 hungry people we didn't finish our appetizers, they just weren't that good. read more

Went on a Friday morning to try this place out... it was awful. The bartender with what looked like an anchor tattoo didn't pay any attention to us and was extremely rude. She made it clear she favored the male customers at the bar by us.. and still was attentive enough to them either! The bar itself was cute and cozy - so it gets a second star. My friends told me it was really fun but I did not have fun and felt extremely uncomfortable. Always on her phone, the bar was a complete mess, and we received just plain awful customer service. This is truly a great neighborhood bar/restaurant. It seems like its more of a bar than anything at first, but the food is terrific. My favorite are the wings. They cook them perfectly, so the skin is crispy, and the sauce is excellent as well. Their menu is pretty big covering everything from sandwiches and burgers to pizza and even a Mexican section on the menu. I had the fajitas once, liked it a lot. Also had their pizza and it too was very good. It's a great place to watch a game, so many tv's. I'm also happy about the beer selection including many craft beers on tap and in bottles. read more

One of my favorite happy hour spots. Lots of good food options here. Their thin crust pizza is really tasty, something about it tastes a little different (in a good way) compared to all the other pizza places on the southside. Get a group together on Monday nights for 1/2 price pizza (dine-in only). The sausage has a little kick to it. The bruschetta pizza is a nice option if you are looking for something a little lighter. We mainly go here for the burgers, though. The JD burger is one of the best burgers in the area, and it is huge. Good waffle fries, too. They also have a solid chicken sandwich served on garlic bread. The menu has a good range of items beyond your typical greasy, reheated bar food (soups, salads, sandwiches, etc). This spot caters to a wide range of age groups and is the type of place where both guys and girls would feel comfortable. Service in my experience has always been friendly and accomodating. read more

One word. HORRIBLE! I'll share my experience from the time I walked in the door for a party and as the evening went on. Getting there a little early for the party my wife and I decided to grab a drink at the bar. Two of the four open bar stools were wobbly. That same issue carried over to the chairs at the tables we were sat at. Then there was the wobbly hightop we later relocated to. Went to the bathroom and the door is covered in dirt and grease. It's pretty bad when the soap dispenser that should be clean looks like it came from a mechanics shop it was so dirty. As the place filled the temperature rose to the point of sweating and it was like pulling teeth to get them to cool the place down. The "smoking lounge" just outside the front door is a nice touch too. It's great to be eating food and having smokers walk in and out constantly bringing smoke in your face. I know bars have sports and music to play but when you have to yell at the person next to you to have a conversation I'd say thats a bit loud. I appreciated the leaking bucket my beer was in. The replacement one leaked too. Finally just got a towel from one of the servers. Let's talk servers. Or lack thereof. I saw six people running the floor. Three of which looked like they were in high school and could care less in what they were doing. I had to ask that the hightop be cleaned. That was after it took the kid three trips to clear off a few glasss and a beer bottle. We had to ask someone for menus, to take our order, to refill our drinks, get a box for our leftover food, and then get our check. This was all accomplished by three of those six servers. No one was assigned to tables. Two of the kids seemed to walk around aimlessly. There was clearly no manager running the place. It may have been the owner at the end of the bar but he was busy hanging out drinking with a few regulars. And whatever you do don't book a party event and if you decide to I'd get all the details first. Trust me on this one because our party hosts were shocked with some additional charges they never knew were coming after that three hour window. After two and half hours we left our party and went across the street to a newly opened place that was clean, comfortable, and had great service. I'd check that place out before Joe Daniels. Bar Rescue should pay this place a visit. read more
