Long story short: DON'T buy a diamond ring without coming here FIRST. This was my first time buying a diamond ring, and I wanted it to be a surprise for my soon-to-be-fiancé (hopefully!). Though I had done enough of my own research in advance to get the basics down (The 4 C's of diamonds, etc.), I wanted to fully understand how all the aspects of a diamond translate into what it looks like in real life. The goal was to get the best looking diamond for my budget. That's where Sal Esposito comes in. He was such a delight to work with, I walked into this adventure as a total noob, and I feel like he turned me into a diamond expert. After having visited many jewelers, wholesalers, luxury jewelry brands (Tiffany, Cartier), and online retailers, I can without a doubt highly recommend that you come to Joe Escobar Diamonds and ask for Sal. Before I describe some of the things that made my experience absolutely outstanding, let me describe myself: +I'm a high maintenance customer +Require many visits before finalizing a purchase +Very detail oriented, ask a lot of questions +Even if I like something, I like to see more options JUST in case +Very serious about keeping gifts a complete surprise So I was set out to get the PERFECT diamond: something within my budget, the right shape, as close to my target size as possible, as brilliant and shiny as possible, the right proportions, etc. etc. etc. Spoiler alert: Sal helped me get that perfect diamond, and I could not be happier with the purchase (oh, and so was my fiancé!). The first time I walked in, Sal gave an overview of the various properties of diamonds and he took the time to show a range of diamonds so I could get a feel for how different cuts, clarities, and carat sizes look in real life. That was the biggest takeaway for me: at the end of the day, focus on how it looks rather than all the numbers on a GIA certificate. Even though I still did spend a lot of time looking at the GIA certificates/specifications of many diamonds, Sal ultimately helped me pick a diamond that looks great in real life. The way he did that, however, was incredible. Sal never pushed me to pick one thing over another - never did I feel pressured to make a decision. My favorite method was when he would do a blind test by bringing me a few diamonds without telling me what any of the specifications were. He would ask me which one I think looks the best and why, which helped reveal which qualities were most important to me. That exercise was the biggest eye opener for me, and is something you will just have to go in and experience for yourself. The coolest thing Sal did, though, was treat the diamond purchase like the top secret mission that it truly was. I explained to him that no one could know I was about to propose, and he CANNOT leave me a voicemail unless he proceeds with extreme caution. Here is an example of a voicemail he left me when returning my call about our 5pm appointment: "Hey, yes we can have coffee tomorrow at 5pm no problem to discuss the business venture." How awesome is that?? I feel truly lucky to have found someone so passionate about making sure this very important purchase was as special as it could be. A couple of extra notes about the quality of selection at Joe Escobar Diamonds: +They hand select high quality diamonds, so you don't have to weed through diamonds with unacceptable proportions or excessive imperfections. +Unlike some brands that only allow you to buy diamonds with the most expensive clarity ratings (e.g. VS2 or VS1), Joe Escobar Diamonds has a wider range. This means you have more flexibility with adjusting the characteristics of your diamond so you can maximize on the characteristics that are important to you (e.g. size, color, brilliance, if the diamond is "eye-clean") while staying within your target budget. +I have family members from around the world that have a lot of experience with buying diamonds, and they were all stunned at the quality of the diamond that I got from Joe Escobar. Some said it is the most brilliant/shiny diamond they have ever seen! Overall, I am utterly impressed with the quality of service and the product. Thank you so much for all your patience, Sal! The service at Joe Escobar is truly top notch. My husband and I ordered custom bands soon after our engagement, and both the communication and result with Joe Escobar was perfect. Our bands felt unique, and we loved them so much we added customization to our bands leading up to the wedding date as opposed to buying new ones. Unfortunately, I lost my ring last month and needed to replace it. I checked jewelers around my area as I had moved out of state, and couldn't quite find a place that could give me the same unique feel/customization. I called Joe Escobar hoping by some miracle they not only had the 5-6 year-old record of my order, but that they could create it again and ship it to my home. My fiancé ended up getting my engagement ring here. We originally went in to look just to get some ideas as we knew very little about diamonds and engagement rings in general. Everyone who we spoke with was very helpful and knowledgeable. We talked with them about the different diamond shapes, getting the most bang for your buck, metals, and craftsmanship, and I felt like I took a class on jewelry. I later found out that my family had saved my grandmothers diamond ring for me so we wouldn't need to get a diamond after all. We went back in because we still did want a different setting for the ring. They appraised the ring and diamond we had and it was interesting to learn how old and unique it was! I narrowed it down to 3 settings that I loved and my fiancé made the final decision without me (he'd already proposed with my grandmothers ring, but still wanted to surprise me with the new setting.) When I finally got to see he ring he chose with my grandmothers diamond, I was blown away. They did such a beautiful job and the ring was gorgeous. Came in to have the bale for a cross repaired. They charged me the first time for the repair. After two weeks, they called me to let me know it was ready. I came back in and the bale was now too small for the chain to fit through. This could have been avoided had they had the chain to compare it with when repairing it, but I had asked them at checkout if they needed the chain and they said no. They ordered another bale for me and in another week I am called back to pick it up, only to be informed that I will have to pay again for the "discounted" replacement bale even though it only needed a full replacement after they botched the initial repair. This place is incredible. I needed to have a diamond ring appraised for insurance purposes and found Joe Escobar on Yelp. The woman who helped us (I believe her name was Eeva) first told us that they were backed up and that it wouldn't be appraised for a couple of weeks, however we explained to her that we were getting married in a week and a half and she was able to squeeze us in. To our surprise, it was done in just a couple of days! While we were there, we looked around and they have absolutely gorgeous jewelry. Alex, the Master Watchmaker, is a treasure. My boyfriend had him service his Rolex and Alex took the time to explain what he needed to do and his unique qualifications for repairing his Rolex. I have a Bulgari watch that stopped working so I looked online and found that CH Premier was their local authorized dealer, so I decided to go there. The woman I met with was clearly not happy that I wasn't buying anything. She abruptly told me they would ship the watch to Bulgari for the repair. I told her I could do that myself, but online it was represented they repaired Bulgari. I questioned why it would be shipped to Bulgari if it perhaps just needed a new battery. After some discussion, she told me they could replace the battery, but they would charge $60 just to open the watch. I was frustrated with her attitude and left. Walking into Joe Escobar was such a different experience! No high pressure sales people clamoring to sell me something. Instead, gracious people who listened to me and wanted to help me. Alex came over and told me he would look into it. He called later and said it only needed a battery but wanted to keep it a couple of days to make certain it would keep time. I just picked up the watch and again was treated wonderfully. And Alex charged a fraction of what CH was going to charge just to look at the watch. The actual owner is very racists against Asians especially Vietnamese community, when I am asking about diamonds, the owner asked if we have been to some other Vietnamese owned stores that sells jewelry and explained that they sell diamonds that's top quality only and do not sell anything low quality like with florescent or lower grade diamonds, when I asked why, he explained to me that's the Asian community influence and he does not agreed with that, but when asking about pricing for their diamonds, their lower quality diamonds cost alot more than high quality Asian owned stores.......Now that does not make sense at all.
