I had an appointment on 4/4/23 with an NP but wasn't given a name. On the date of the appointment, my first contact was with a woman, who didn't introduce herself, I thought she was my NP for the appointment. She gathered information from me about why I was there, etc. She leaves and says someone would be in shortly. Note to self, that she's not the NP. A few minutes pass and then enters a man, who does NOT introduce himself, walks in with my chart, asking what I want to do/achieve/accomplish with my visit. I explain I have concerns about my skin texture, and wrinkles, and a major concern is I have several products with me that I'm 1) probably not using correctly and/or 2) probably shouldn't be using at all. That said, about a third of my product can only be obtained from a dermatologist's office. So, not all of my product is garbage. I explain to him I'm on a very limited income and would like him to look at the products I have, as they are in their boxes that have the ingredients listed. He promptly cuts me off vaguely stating if it was bought "over-the-counter" it's not worth him looking at them as the quality of the skincare in them isn't worth anything. WOW! Then continues, my lines can be fixed with Botox, I get that. My texture can be fixed with lazer, I get that. I know this, but pouring salt on an open wound isn't helping this appointment. Keep in mind, I mentioned to him I'm on a limited income. Can you help a girl out? Just give me some hope/help/guidance for using vitamin C&E during the day and Retinoids/Retin-A at night correctly for both texture and wrinkles along with some of the other products(hopefully some of mine) would be appreciated? If they are garbage, then I've wasted my money and I'll toss them. My question is, what makes what he's selling "better than" the product I received from a dermatologist's office? Can someone make that make sense? It's a very well-known product even though they do not sell it in their office. Remember, I had the boxes with ingredients on them and he didn't take an extra 5 minutes to just look. HORRIBLE experience! I own my part, I was influenced by some of my purchases, but not all. Sorry to burst Joe's 5 star rating, but I didn't have a 5 star experience. I first chose to see Joe at California Skin Institute because of the raving reviews. When I first got there, his attitude was abrupt and not very friendly. I had a couple of things to cover. First, I wanted him to check out some itchy bumps that I was getting. I asked if they were bug bites and he curtly stated, "If I didn't see it bite you, I don't know if you were bit." Didn't even bother to look. I would expect someone specializing in dermatology to be able to look and give an educated response. He just told me to get zyrtec and Tums to see if it was just an allergy or not. The main reason I went to see him is because I had a bunch of skin tags on my neck and face I wanted removed. He ordered skin whitening cream (from their very own California Skin Institute skin care line, of course), which cost almost $200 for a small bottle, to use before my appointment. When I came back a week later, he burned off skin tags in about 5 minutes and sent me on my way home. When I got home, I noticed a lot of skin tags that weren't touched. I was quite upset. I had to pay an additional $400 out of pocket for this procedure and he couldn't spend a few extra minutes to do a complete job. I called the office back and they said if it's only a few, I could come back in without being charged. But if it's a lot, they would have to charge me for a second session. At this point, I got furious. I didn't expect to pay $$$ for a half a$$ job. I wanted to speak with Joe directly, but he never got back to me despite couple different people saying they would inform him to reach out. I scheduled a follow up appointment a week later to get the rest removed because I insisted this isn't acceptable. When he met with me, he AGAIN did a half a$$ job on the previous half a$$ job. He spent less than 5 minutes hitting some of the missed ones but didn't even come close to getting most of them. I looked in the mirror and he was about to leave the room. I pointed out the bunch on my face that he missed. He gave me a "Huh? Really?" look and worked on the ones I pointed out. There are still a handful left but I just don't want to bother anymore. In the end, he asked me to register my insurance with the front desk. I told him I had paid for this out of pocket because it wouldn't be covered by insurance. He responded with almost a "DUH" response and said, "I am going to charge your insurance for this visit as an office visit." Not sure how "kosher" that is, but whatever. Next time I need dermatology services, I'll have to look elsewhere. read more

Growing up, I had moderate eczema in the winter and spring months. My mom sent me to a dermatologist who saw me for a total of 5 minutes, prescribed strong topical lotions, and sent me off on my way. I never got an explanation, a conversation, or anything with the dude. I eventually grew out of it and didn't have to worry about using ointments/prescriptions. Fast forward 10+ years later and I had the WORST case of eczema I've ever experienced. I spent nights not sleeping because of the pain and irritation. I switched my diet completely so I wasn't eating meat + dairy (two food items that have shown to cause inflammation in the body). I used coconut oil and other natural remedies that helped slightly but was not effective overall. I finally gave in and saw Joe. He was so empathetic, answered all my questions, and explained why he was prescribing what he did. He had an assistant write down everything I needed to know and suggested scheduling a follow up so he could see how I was doing. He said if it didn't get better, we could try stronger methods, which I appreciated. It's been a couple months now and I cannot explain to you how grateful I am for Joe's help. My eczema has cleared up completely and I no longer have to worry about the itchiness or pain. If I face another eczema challenge, I'll be sure to give him a call. Highly recommended. read more

Joe Gorelick is my favorite health care provider. He has a superb bedside manner, extensive knowledge and is a craftsman with the RF needle. He has an answer and a minimally invasive treatment for everything. For years I have followed him as he moved offices. The office in which he works, California Skin Institute is quite a different story. On one occasion they charged me double and would not issue a refund. Another time I paid in full and got a receipt, then the billing department decided they wanted more. Each incident required 5-8 phone calls to resolve. I don't think I can tolerate any more of this. Read the other reviews here and under California Skin Institute and decide for yourself. Today after receiving the usual excellent care from Joe, I left without making my next appointment. Joe is an amazing NP. Extremely knowledgable, professional...and FUNNY. My daughter is 17, and she absolutely loves him. Unfortunately, we will probably have to stop seeing him due to the terrible service from the front office and administrative staff at CSI. It's just much too hard to get simple things done. That said, I'll definitely keep an eye out for Joe and if he ever moves away from CSI, we would definitely look him up again. read more

Why I haven't written something about how GREAT Joe is before, I do not know. I have gone to Joe for many years - and he is the best! I went to him at Age Defy & now CA Skin Institute. I look forward to my annual skin checks as he does such a thorough job. Because of Joe, I am cancer free! He has found a few basal cells throughout the years & most recently, a big melanoma on my back. But because he finds these growths in time, I am a healthy gal! I went to Age Defy today after about 18 months and found it to be a far cry from when I saw Joe before he moved from there to here.I am calling now to make an appointment after the sad service I received today at his old employ. I am glad I looked on here and re-found Joe. I have seen him a bunch of times in the past and missed him! I wasted an appointment today not looking first see if I could find him and had no idea he was so close. Dr Gorelick misdiagnoses my skin problem prescribed me the wrong drugs which Causing my finger problems got worse and worse. He keep giving me the prescriptions for fungus without testing for fungus first. After suffer for two months, I went to a different doctor and was tested negative for fungus. After I stopped dr Gorelick prescription my finger get better. read more

I have been going to Joe for years. I have had a number of different treatments done. I trust Joe quite a bit when it comes to his recommendations of products and procedures and have never been disappointed. the most important issue has recently been taken care of in a big way!!!! I have suffered from severe sweating for a very long time. I can remember dating back for Junior High being extremely embarrassed and having to wear baggy shirts in order to avoid sweat stains on my clothes. I have suffered all the way through my adulthood until Joe introduced me to the botox treatment for sever sweating. I went through several treatments of botox injections and found them successful, however was ready for a more long term treatment. Joe suggested I try the miraDry treatment. I was extremely excited at the idea of only having to have 1 or 2 treatments total and also excited to hear the long term results miraDry was offering. After just one treatment I have already noticed a significant decrease in my sweating. I would say close to 80% reduction. I am free to wear the clothes I would like without having to worry if my underarm sweat is going to show or ruin my shirt. I am excited to get the 2nd treatment done as well. I am already pleased with the results, however looking forward to an even better result with one more treatment. Although I do not feel the 2nd treatment is absolutely necessary, I am confident one more treatment will get rid of any remaining sweat glands and perspiration that still occurs. read more

Had seen several doctors, allergists, and other dermatologists and none could figure out why my skin was bothering me like crazy. Joe was able to immediately figure out what the problem was and correctly diagnose me and prescribe an effective treatment plan. Also called over the weekend to check in and make sure I was feeling better while undergoing treatment. Went in yesterday for to remove some warts from my armpit area. The doctor was so hurried to get the next patient in that he failed to remove one of the largest warts in my armpit. Wasted good money just to have to go somewhere else to finish the job he started. I do NOT recommend this doctor to anyone. read more
