I have come into Joe Van Gogh multiple times, and although I like their drinks, I don't love the ambiance. The restaurant could do a better job at positioning their tables in the space to allow for more patrons to do work (and have access to outlets) without being in the way of those queuing in line for ordering. I have sat here and read a book before, and despite liking my drink, I did not love that I felt "in the way" of others. I also think the bathrooms could be a little more well maintained. However, I do enjoy both the matcha and coffee here, and think that this shop around the Triangle does coffee extremely well. The baristas are knowledgable and can provide insight into various menu options, and are also extremely kind. I will likely be back but just for a grab-and-go coffee.

Ok, this is officially some of the best coffee I've had in Durham. I got the maple cinnamon latte hot, which is seasonal, and it was delicious. The flavor profiles of both maple and cinnamon were present, but not overpowering; it also had the perfect amount of sweetness. There's plenty of free street parking. Service & ambiance are great. Only con is that the seating inside is pretty limited, but they do also have outdoors seating. 9/10 would recommend!

My second time here went better than the first! I appreciate that they don't charge extra for non-dairy milks, because most coffee shops do. This made the drinks much more affordable and I enjoyed the latte that I got.

Had a lovely time working from home this afternoon at JVG. I ordered a cappuccino which turned out fluffy and delicious. Staff was welcoming and the atmosphere provided a calm and productive atmosphere. The playlist was great too :)

Atmosphere: Joe Van Gogh is a staple coffee establishment in Durham. This location has a few tables and a bright loft area. If you can snag a spot, this is a great place to get some work done. Service: The baristas were friendly, and we received our drinks quickly. Food: We tried the Honey Almond Latte, Vanilla Latte, and London Fog Scone. The almond flavor in the Honey Almond Latte is very strong, so we'd recommend it if you're an almond fan! The Vanilla Latte was solid and wasn't too sweet. The London Fog Scone stole the show for us though -- its pronounced tea flavor offered a uniquely delightful experience! Overall: Joe Van Gogh is a well-loved coffee spot in Durham. While this may not be our first choice for a study session or a long coffee date (due to limited seating), their drinks haven't disappointed us!

The best coffee shop I ever met in Durham, everybody should try this coffee shop! Everything was great. Cozy ambiance, and service was good!

Bought some beans for my French press; online support was awesome!

Joe Van Gogh impressed me from when I walked in to the product and well afterward! Highly recommended! Details below. I was visiting from out-of-town and stopped by. The cortado was excellent! Staff and vibe were awesome--friendly and low-key. Also had drip coffee (Red River) which was a tasty hand-crafted medium-dark roast. The London Fog scone was very good +++, with a well-balanced lavender note, and a short crumb (I'm super-picky about scones, and I'd get it again, but an "excellent" scone would rock my world). Also bought some beans and got a quick online response to a question about fine-tuning my French press method for that blend. Keep doing what you're doing!

    Cinnamon/maple sugar latte

The best lattes I've ever had. Full disclosure, I am not a coffee connoisseur. However, I do know the difference between a stellar and awful latte. I decided to try this cafe after discovering how good there whole beans are while shopping at Weaver St Market. I also needed a place to work. I started with the breakfast burrito, which was pretty good, and the 12 oz latte with 2% and sugar free caramel. Wow!! Later that afternoon I tried one of their scones and another latte with cinnamon/maple sugar. It was the perfect combination and the latte was just as good as the first. I thought it might be the same barista as in the morning, but there was a shift change. So it must be the beans used? Also, the latte art was a nice touch. I definitely will be coming back for more!!

I love JVG for their iced vanilla lattes, iced matcha, and earl gray scones! Especially during the pandemic, their online ordering system made everything feel safe and like a breeze. Their seasonal drinks can be a hit or miss (the flowery ones can come off a little strong), but their permanent menu is always solid. This location has a nice indoor loft-like "upstairs" seating area that I enjoyed studying at pre-prandemic. The "downstairs" area of the indoor space was a little more cramped and uncomfortable, but decent enough.

OMG the cold brew with chocolate milk is THE BEST combination my lil tongue has ever tasted! My tastebuds were having a literal blast. The coffee shop itself is cute af. Although it is to-go on for now, the outside seating is nice. Also, it's only ONE person allowed inside at all times, so make sure to have someone take everyone's orders and go in, or go in rotations. If cold brew isn't your thing, this place will change that!!! The location is nice, but could be more visible. We drove past it twice without spotting it, and called to make sure they were open and still there. Thankfully it was. It's our new favorite spot! It seems like you can customize your drink however you like! And the price, compared to Starbucks you get the bangs for your bucks. Try try try and keep coming back!

Excellent coffee, great scone, neat spot. That pretty much covers it. I had an excellent latte on a weekday morning and an apricot/walnut scone that solved my breakfast issues. I managed to sit for an hour with said coffee and pastry, writing Yelp reviews and planning my day. Very easy getting work done here. I could have chilled all morning!

The ambiance is absolutely stunning--warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed. I honestly spent half the meal just taking it all in because every detail was beautiful. Now, let's talk about the food... phenomenal doesn't even begin to describe it. Everything was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. I'll definitely be back, and this has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Five stars isn't enough--this place deserves 100.

I was hopeful that management would own the mistake, but when my bill came nothing was comped. I had to raise my concern with a waitress and she got a manager. Helpful service in a nicely decorated small cafe, a nice stop for getting a morning going. The Deets: Deciding to venture out a bit to try some place new, I found Morning Ritual on the trusty Yelp app and headed off to there. It is joined along side The Goat restaurant on the edge of an apartment complex campus near Brier Creek. I like the look of the building and while noticing there is outside seating available, there is a convenient take out window on the side as well. I went inside and liked the warm, inviting but still slightly modern look of the cafe style seating and ordering area. There are a couple of seats within range of a power outlet and there is WiFi but note it is public/no password access, it appears. Their menu shows a good array of beverages and eats to satisfy those morning needs. I decided on a 16 oz hot skim latte to drink to enjoy there and then ordered the Egg + Cheese Scramble which has Monterey Jack and Cheddar and served with one of their biscuits. You order and pay at the register/counter then they give you a table number to take to your seat. My beverage came in well enough time to enjoy while I waited on my food order. My latte was so good that I had no need for additions such as sweetener or syrups and I like the mug with it to enjoy in house. Food came in good time as well, looking pretty tempting. The toasted biscuit was good and I liked it but a tad small bit sweet for a Southern type biscuit (the type that I'm used to/grown up with enjoying). The scramble was really great...I usually do not favor getting cheese in my scrambled eggs but everything was delicious here and perfect texture as well as portion on the eggs themselves in a small cafe setting. There's always that challenge in a new coffee shop/cafe in figuring out their used dishes protocol/station but loved that my server saw me searching and happily took my dishes at the counter for me. I enjoyed this first visit to Morning Ritual and can see me visiting in the future, I like it.

Our breakfast ended up coming out before coffee, which made no sense. I had to ask about the coffees before they were actually made. When the girl came from morning ritual She brought out my husbands, hot cappuccino but my mocha out iced and I immediately said I don't drink cold coffee and I did an order iced. Instead of being apologetic, and stating that she would change it, she just snatched the iced coffee and walked away. That was such a strange encounter. It was rude and I got no apology, nor did I get any explanation of what would happen next. I let my server know to ensure I was still going to get a coffee because I can't live without my coffee in the morning! When my Moca loved her honey, oat milk, coffee came I took a sip and was glad i didn't flip out and say "forget the coffee" (as I was already done with breakfast by the time in arrived) because the drink was delicious! If I'm ever back in the area (I was staying in Raleigh but decided to take a little detour into Durham that morning) I'll come to only Morning Ritual to see if I can change this 3 star review for service issues into a 5. For now they need to work on getting coffee service to The Goat streamlined!
