    Maple cinnamon latte
    Andrea A.

Ok, this is officially some of the best coffee I've had in Durham. I got the maple cinnamon latte hot, which is seasonal, and it was delicious. The flavor profiles of both maple and cinnamon were present, but not overpowering; it also had the perfect amount of sweetness. There's plenty of free street parking. Service & ambiance are great. Only con is that the seating inside is pretty limited, but they do also have outdoors seating. 9/10 would recommend!

My second time here went better than the first! I appreciate that they don't charge extra for non-dairy milks, because most coffee shops do. This made the drinks much more affordable and I enjoyed the latte that I got.

Had a lovely time working from home this afternoon at JVG. I ordered a cappuccino which turned out fluffy and delicious. Staff was welcoming and the atmosphere provided a calm and productive atmosphere. The playlist was great too :)

Atmosphere: Joe Van Gogh is a staple coffee establishment in Durham. This location has a few tables and a bright loft area. If you can snag a spot, this is a great place to get some work done. Service: The baristas were friendly, and we received our drinks quickly. Food: We tried the Honey Almond Latte, Vanilla Latte, and London Fog Scone. The almond flavor in the Honey Almond Latte is very strong, so we'd recommend it if you're an almond fan! The Vanilla Latte was solid and wasn't too sweet. The London Fog Scone stole the show for us though -- its pronounced tea flavor offered a uniquely delightful experience! Overall: Joe Van Gogh is a well-loved coffee spot in Durham. While this may not be our first choice for a study session or a long coffee date (due to limited seating), their drinks haven't disappointed us!

The best coffee shop I ever met in Durham, everybody should try this coffee shop! Everything was great. Cozy ambiance, and service was good!

Bought some beans for my French press; online support was awesome!

Joe Van Gogh impressed me from when I walked in to the product and well afterward! Highly recommended! Details below. I was visiting from out-of-town and stopped by. The cortado was excellent! Staff and vibe were awesome--friendly and low-key. Also had drip coffee (Red River) which was a tasty hand-crafted medium-dark roast. The London Fog scone was very good +++, with a well-balanced lavender note, and a short crumb (I'm super-picky about scones, and I'd get it again, but an "excellent" scone would rock my world). Also bought some beans and got a quick online response to a question about fine-tuning my French press method for that blend. Keep doing what you're doing!

    Cinnamon/maple sugar latte

The best lattes I've ever had. Full disclosure, I am not a coffee connoisseur. However, I do know the difference between a stellar and awful latte. I decided to try this cafe after discovering how good there whole beans are while shopping at Weaver St Market. I also needed a place to work. I started with the breakfast burrito, which was pretty good, and the 12 oz latte with 2% and sugar free caramel. Wow!! Later that afternoon I tried one of their scones and another latte with cinnamon/maple sugar. It was the perfect combination and the latte was just as good as the first. I thought it might be the same barista as in the morning, but there was a shift change. So it must be the beans used? Also, the latte art was a nice touch. I definitely will be coming back for more!!

Iced Pumpkin latte w Macadamia Milk

I love JVG for their iced vanilla lattes, iced matcha, and earl gray scones! Especially during the pandemic, their online ordering system made everything feel safe and like a breeze. Their seasonal drinks can be a hit or miss (the flowery ones can come off a little strong), but their permanent menu is always solid. This location has a nice indoor loft-like "upstairs" seating area that I enjoyed studying at pre-prandemic. The "downstairs" area of the indoor space was a little more cramped and uncomfortable, but decent enough.

Chocolate milk cold brew and hazelnut cold brew.
    Yu C.

OMG the cold brew with chocolate milk is THE BEST combination my lil tongue has ever tasted! My tastebuds were having a literal blast. The coffee shop itself is cute af. Although it is to-go on for now, the outside seating is nice. Also, it's only ONE person allowed inside at all times, so make sure to have someone take everyone's orders and go in, or go in rotations. If cold brew isn't your thing, this place will change that!!! The location is nice, but could be more visible. We drove past it twice without spotting it, and called to make sure they were open and still there. Thankfully it was. It's our new favorite spot! It seems like you can customize your drink however you like! And the price, compared to Starbucks you get the bangs for your bucks. Try try try and keep coming back!

Excellent coffee, great scone, neat spot. That pretty much covers it. I had an excellent latte on a weekday morning and an apricot/walnut scone that solved my breakfast issues. I managed to sit for an hour with said coffee and pastry, writing Yelp reviews and planning my day. Very easy getting work done here. I could have chilled all morning!

If you're anywhere near Durham, this restaurant is an absolute must-visit. Whether you're stopping in for coffee and a pastry, grabbing a sandwich, or sitting down for brunch, you won't be disappointed. I'll definitely be back, and this has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in the area. Five stars isn't enough--this place deserves 100.

This particular morning, I knew I wanted to stop by Trader Joe's afterward, but they weren't open yet. So I pulled up the map looking for a coffee shop where I could get a little coworking done. Thousand Hills Coffee popped up, and it had been on my "need to try" list for a while. I also shot my buddy KH a quick text to see if he wanted to join me and catch up on our latest ultra running training shenanigans. Thankfully, he was game. I rolled in around 8:30 a.m. and managed to grab a decent parking spot. Worth mentioning because the coffee shop shares parking with the apartment complex next door, so I imagine spaces can disappear quickly. KW arrived a few minutes before me and had to park a bit farther away. Walking inside, I immediately liked the vibe. It feels modern but still cozy, almost like someone's really well-designed living room. There are several distinct seating areas, plenty of soft chairs, a long community table, and even bar seating overlooking the baristas. It struck a nice balance between coffee shop and comfortable workspace. Since I'd already knocked out my morning run, I was ready for a little breakfast. KH and I both ordered the cheese, Danish. It looked huge in the display case, though it shrank a bit once it made it onto the plate. That said, it was really flavorful and definitely worth ordering. I also grabbed a regular drip coffee, which was excellent. My timing was amusing because they had just finished the last pot and were brewing a fresh one, but honestly, getting a fresh cup probably worked out for the best. We grabbed chairs next to the long community table instead at the table since the morning sun was already heating things up. We spent a while catching up, talking running, races, and all the usual endurance athlete nonsense. After KH headed out, I relocated to the long table that was in the shade and spent another hour or so catching up on emails and getting a little work done. It turned out to be a great co-working spot with plenty of room to spread out without feeling like you were taking up space. One last shoutout to the staff, who were genuinely friendly and welcoming throughout my visit. Good coffee is one thing, but great people always make the experience better. Overall, I came away impressed. Somehow, they've been open for about two years, and I'm honestly not sure how they managed to stay off my radar for so long. Safe to say they'll be making it into my regular rotation whenever I need a good cup of coffee and a comfortable place to get some work done.
