Joe's Cafe is a no frills cafe where you can sit down at the bar, in front of the kitchen, just like the good ole days in the 90s. If that ain't your jam, you can sit at the regular tables, no sweat. However, there's something nostalgic about sitting on a bar stool, at a high-top table, watching the hustle and bustle of the kitchen chefs and workers while you sit and enjoy your cup o' Joe and your eggs (always over-easy), sausage links, strips of bacon, and pancakes. Breakfast is a simple meal. I get it. You may laugh at coming to a place like Joe's for a simple meal like breakfast, when all you're really getting is service. Anyone can make a scrambled egg or heat up some sausage links from your local HT. But will you get someone to refill your cup of coffee for you? Can you beckon someone for some hot sauce? I think not, at least not in this day and age. You gotta be Mrs. (or Mr.) Independent. I digress. The fact is that while the food here is average at best, it's a solid breakfast joint that doesn't make your wallet feel like it just got sucker punched on the football field and left for dead while the team just ran back a touchdown on you. The owner is very personable and his staff maintains a great level of attention and sense of urgency with their customers. The Significant Other Foodie and I try to go around 11-11:30am or 1-1:30pm, and we always find ourselves not having to wait too long to be seated. I live less than a mile from Joe's Cafe. I see it every day in that little plaza and always thought I would try it someday. I guess some that held me back is that my overall expectations of most places these days are substandard. But not all. Then, I saw a very high review in one of my magazines. I think it was rated as one of the best diners in Northern Virginia. Then I knew it would only be a matter of time. Yesterday was headed to Potbelly's, but at the light I said, what the heck and did a U turn and entered Joe's. I was greeted very nicely and there was a friendly atmosphere, but professionally and with the customers. I did notice that there were a lot of folk in there that looked like me. Middled aged to older men with baseball caps. Had a feel as if I was in Culpeper. I sat at the bar and ordered eggs over medium (don't like runny whites), bacon (don't eat much bacon anymore), Toast and potatoes. EVERYTHING WAS PERFECT. I drink my coffee black like the cowboys did, and you cannot have good black coffee unless it is fresh. This was very good. Bacon cooked nice and crisp and a big portion. We were looking for a place for breakfast that draws locals and regulars because it lives up to it. Joe's was it! We were greeted by the owner as soon as we walked in. We were welcomed to sit at the counter which is always the most fun place to be... we chatted with him, his servers and a regular customer who was at the counter. This regular had moved away and made a point of stopping back when he was in town. Between the owner and the regular my husband was given a suggestion (sausage gravy over biscuits), my hubby loves chorizo so I said I thought he would have ordered an item that had it... the owner immediately said "we can add it". Excellent little diner that I've driven by 100 times and never noticed. People waiting outside for it to open at 8am (maybe on the late side for a place specializing in breakfast?). My wife got a ham, egg, and cheese sanwhich was was very good. The slices of game for good, like maybe they grilled them first! I had the Chorizo con Huevos. It was incredible, huge portion. What a great hidden gem in Sterling,VA. If you haven't tried this place then you should make a point to go. It's got a diner vibe, energetic and friendly. The owner was at the center of the rush, making sure his patrons were sat a quickly as possible. The place was packed at 10:30am and there was literally a waiting line out the door. I got seated at the bar, next to some friendly folks. There appeared to be lots of regulars as the owner knew everybody by name. You could see the staff working hard at the grills making sure to get the food out hot and quick. Which they did! Everything tasted super fresh and made to order. No complaints here. Oh, and I have to mention the sign on the wall that I absolutely loved, which read "No WiFi. Talk to each other." Lol.... And guess what? Best hidden gem in Loudoun County!! The staff is so friendly and accommodating. You can tell they have a phenomenal work culture set by Rami who greets everyone like they are regulars. The Eggs Benedict is one of the best I have ever eaten. They poach the eggs perfectly every time consistently. Most other places screw it up. The Coffee is an espresso blend and they keep your cup FULL. Expect it to be busy which is a sign of good service and epic meals. You gotta go to Joe's!!! read more

This is a hidden gem! Everything on the menu seemed delicious. It's a little restaurant and when you walk in, it's decorated like a diner. The servers are friendly and service is quick. Your food is made to order, so everything is fresh and hot. I ordered the waffles, two eggs, and sausage links. The waffles were thick and warm. The outside had a perfect crunch and crisp while the inside was fluffy. The waffles was the perfect combo with the sausages and eggs. They had lunch items too! Joe's cafe is an excellent breakfast and brunch option. When we stopped in for breakfast around 9am, the place was packed. Joe greeted us very pleasantly, took our name for the waiting list and said this is the first wave, they should be another 10 mins or so. We sat on the seats outside the cafe and enjoyed the nice weather for only a few mins before Joe came in and got us to be seated. We shared a table with another pair of guests but that was fine with us. The server came right away with menus and asked what we'd like to drink, we got waters, coffee and orange juice for the group. We were insistent served hot coffee and the water and juice came a few mins later. There server took our orders as we saw the line of people grow outside with the wait. The huevos rancheros were pretty good with a side of home fries and avocado. Eggs were cooked right, the beans were a good compliment and the salsa served with the dish was zesty. Absolutely loved the fact that there was a big basket at every table holding a variety of hot sauces and condiments that people generally need for their meals. We never had to ask, it was right there, all varying levels of spice for your life at your fingertips. The side of French toast was very tasty and came with Maple Syrup packets. The Greek omelette was delicious, packed full of olives and feta cheese, it really hot the spot. We ordered an egg and avocado sandwich on a roll(no cheese). The Kaiser roll was not listed on the menu but we asked for it and the server was happy to accommodate. The order came out with cheese but we took it anyway and removed it since we were on a strict timeline for the day and didn't want to wait for it to be prepared again. The veggie omelette was delicious, cooked perfectly with the before roasted slightly and the egg was just cooked enough to be soft and flavorful. Every item was cooked to order and the ingredients used were very fresh. Even with a fully packed cafe, Joe made time to stop by twice to ensure the meal was good and check if we needed anything. He chatted with the locals and the visitors of the area, contributing to the pleasant, friendly and welcoming atmosphere of the cafe. Highly recommend! Quick service, nice people! We arrived at about 10:30 a.m. (Saturday) to find the place packed, but we ventured in because our stomachs needed to be fed. I didn't really pay attention to how long we waited, but I'd venture it was around 20 minutes. The owner would have sat us sooner at the bar or one of the family style tables, but we opted for a booth instead and he was more than happy to oblige. I could tell this place had a good number of regulars - the owner was greeting them left and right, asking about work and mutual friends. The breakfast menu had a decent selection. I love corned beef hash and asked if it was made in house, but unfortunately, it comes out of a package. I opted for the 4 deuces breakfast: 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 bacon strips, & 2 sausage links or patties I substituted the pancakes for french toast and got the sausage patties. The french toast was made perfectly. The bread inside was not soggy and the bread was a nice, golden brown, there was almost a crunch to it. My husband had the biscuits and gravy - he proceeded to clean the plate! I like my gravy on the white peppery side, but Joe's gravy was hearty with sausage and the gravy consistency was not too thick nor runny and was creamy. One of his sides was an order of home fries. These are the no frills potatoes that are grilled up plain. They were made well, nice and hot. They were not soggy and not burnt. As I initially stated, the service is quick. Once we were sat and stared at the menu for 5 minutes, we were asked what we wanted to drink. I don't think there are drink sizes because I ordered an orange juice and a large glass of it came out. Not complaining at all! We ordered our food after receiving our drinks and maybe 10 minutes later - if that, our food came out piping hot. This is a great family joint. If you're in the area and needing food, this is a worthwhile spot. Also, I spied an order of chorizo and eggs at a neighboring table and it looked really good, decent portion too. This spot is always ALWAYS crowded on weekends and we can understand why! The dining room gives off a nostalgic vibe and Rami's friendliness with the regulars make it very homey. There are comfy, albeit a bit scuffed up, dining chairs that make the old-timey experience that much better. I'm usually an omelet and toast kind of gal but I think the amount of egg in their omelets leave more to be desired. In exploring the menu, I've actually liked their cheeseburger and fries to be my favorite. Hubby loves their banana choco-chip pancakes. Service is always great when we bring friends and family. Be prepared to wait 30+ minutes before you get a table on weekends if you're here after 9 am. Parking can be hard to find in this tiny shopping center but worth it once you sit down.
