We went for a birthday dinner in the back room that was reserved. I was a little concerned about service because there were at least 20 of us with families on individual bills and not necessarily sitting together. My husband and I split a large fried shrimp and fish plate and added an extra piece of fish. It was so huge we had a couple meals of leftovers! Wanted crawfish to celebrate Crawfish day today and I was a little disappointed in the experience I had. Was greeted when entering and sat down immediately. Order Oysters in half shell (6), grilled crab cakes and 5 pounds of crawfish. Oysters were good no problem. I didn't eat the grilled crab cake but my girl told me it was "ok" Crawfish were dry. Felt like they were steamed and not boiled. Highly disappointing. Overcooked to a degree so very tough to get tail meat out. Even potato and corn were dry. I know potatoes are naturally dry but when put in boiled pot with crawfish they get flavor and juice. The other disappointing part was we had to ask for napkins, utensils and refill on water. How you bring food and not provide utensils or napkins. Especially when the first thing was oysters which I use my hands. I understand we are eating most of the meal by hand but you want us to eat the grilled crab cake with hands too? Unfortunately not the experience I was looking for at all and based on reviews I have seen, should have listened but wanted to give them a try. Just stroll on in! There may or may not be a hostess depending on if they are busy... It's got a bar with three TVs if you are so inclined to watch the game. There is also a back room for private events and the atmosphere is pretty bar/seafood pier/get your drink on type of place with a neighbor you probably don't care to see but lives in the same neighborhood. Anyways, sat down and looked at the menu and decided on some Gulf shrimp and oysters. Actually, that's a lie, I came here because I was craving Gulf shrimp and oysters lol .Let me tell you about being along the coast - you know your shrimp. Most restaurants serve shrimp that are frozen from India. Why? No idea, ask suppliers. at this point, I will let the photos speak for itself. I'm not a fan of sauces coming in containers. I just don't like cheap on my table. I'm not being bougie either, but I know I'm not paying restaurant prices and getting fast food sauces. The taste is 100% there when it comes to the seafood. It's just the presentation is not and for some reason that kind of bums my experience. I feel like a dirty plate. I probably won't come back until next year just because I would make the drive to smaller towns near the Gulf to get way bigger shrimp and way bigger oysters. Has been a couple of years since we have been here. I was craving liver & onions and hubby wanted seafood, so perfect place. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and got to pick where to sit. They were probably 3/4% full. Picked a table close to windows. Drinks came out fairly quickly, followed by server taking our order. We asked for onion rings with ranch to start off. They came out and server mentioned that she had to get the ranch. We waited, watched, waited, watched, waited, watched and no ranch even though she came out of the kitchen at least 3 times. I got up and went to kitchen door and asked for the ranch. Our server asked the other server to get the ranch. It literally took him seconds to get it. He stepped away, I heard a refrigerator door click closed and bam he had the much desired ranch. The onion rings were at this point not as warm and as tasty as I would have liked. Our food came out. Big portions and looked good. Yay! My liver & onions was a little on the dry side but still good. The green beans were meh. The mashed potatoes and roll were good. Hubby's seafood was really good. I had a taste. Now as we were waiting to get our check, started noticing the dust on the table. Not sure why our table was so dusty(can also see it on posted food pictures). As we walked out, also noticed how dusty the table was and dirty the floors were by the front front door of all places. We get it. We understand that the world is short staffed. We received our drinks quickly enough, but we waited a long time for someone to take our order. The server walked over to the table next to us, to take their order, even though we arrived before them. Then she saw us out of the corner of her eye, and, realizing we had been waiting longer, she promptly took our order. We ordered peel and eat shrimp for an appetizer and also oysters on the half shell. For entrees, we ordered blackened fish tacos and grilled fish platter. Our food arrived in a timely manner. The fish tacos were fine, but the grilled fish was very bland. Overall, I would say the food was just average, nothing special. The service was very slow in the beginning. And Rosenberg isn't spoiled for good food, and this is one of the better oyster bars in the Houston Texas area out of the ones we tried for General Seafood type stuff, and it also has a great atmosphere and whatnot, in a sleepy little burb. Well We've heard this was a good place to eat. So with my aunt visiting from Michigan we would try this place out. So myself and wife, aunt and son where trying this place fir the first time! Yea was fine, draft was ok, Margarita was from a machine so nothing special and Texas peach was ok, but wouldn't order it again. Ordered appetizers of stuff jalapeños with crab meat and Gouda cheese. There was only 2 and they where huge! Taste was good, but would be better if it was 4 smaller ones then the two big ones. Gave our main order and my wife and I got the Nathan special, I got the catfish, shrimp and crab cake, with fries and coleslaw. But I never got my fries! My wife got the cod, shrimp and crab cake with mix steam vegetables, Gouda Mac and cheese, it was the best she has had. Can't say the same for the Cod or the steam vegetables, fish was ok but won't order it again and steam vegetables had no flavor at all! My Aunt got the fish and shrimp with pinto beans and green beans, fish and shrimp were great but beans and green beans had no flavor! Our son got Cajun chicken fingers with cream gravy, Gouda Mac and cheese, and gumbo. Well if you call something Cajun it should have flavor and you wouldn't have to add hot sauce. Gumbo was less then good, but the Gouda Mac and cheese was the best! So all in all we would come back but we know what sides not to order and what sides we would double up on. The other day we decided to try this place out. We had passed it several times while in the area and after pulling up YELP and reading some of the reviews we decided to give it a try. Assessment: we were pleasantly surprised! Hitting the place right around lunchtime on a Friday afternoon, the place was busy. So busy that we opted to sit at the bar so we wouldn't have to wait for a table. The bar was fine as there were two TVs going and the servers were always around. Anyways, after perusing the menu we noticed that they had lunch specials and most of them were under $10. Basically it is your entree and two sides. They give you a pretty good selection too! I decided on the fish & shrimp (fried) with a side of french fries & cole slaw while my wife decided on the same but grilled with green beans and rice pilaf. I also ordered a small cup of Gumbo with rice just to see how it was. The guy who took our order was nice and the food came out rather quickly. The portion sizes were very generous. The food tasted fresh and good and overall I'd say the experience was a big plus for us! And living fairly close, this will be our GO TO place for seafood, especially during the weekdays for lunch if we are craving it and in the area. I'd say check it out! Now that things are opening up more. The restaurant does respect protocols and we still wear our mask just in case. But the place seemed clean, the service was good & the food was hot & fresh! I had high hopes for this place as my sister has been hyping it up for awhile now. I'm simply going based off my experience. The service was god awful. The woman was instantly grumpy the minute she walked up to the table. Messed up my order the literal second I told it to her. She never came back to check on us at all whatsoever nor gave refills. We literally had to flag her down anytime we needed anything and she was all pissy that we were making her work AT WORK. I think she had her kid there with her but that's zero excuse for shi* service. My cesar salad had a huge fly in it no apology, no offer to get anything else. The clam chowder had a weird texture in it, almost like chicken skin. I had to go get food from the Pho place next door the food was so gross. I'm sure it's usually good when my sister and her husband go, but it was not a good experience for myself and I definitely won't be back when I come visit Texas again. read more

I was very disappointed. This isn't even a crab cake in my opinion. It's like a fritter with a little bit of crab flavor. It doughy and chewy maybe 1% crab and 99% other. Not what I expect when I order a crab cake. I will not order it agin. The fried oyster were yummy, the clam chowder looked very old? It tastes god but reminded me of broccoli cheddar soup rather than clam chowder. Tastes better than it looks but also not what I typically expect from a clam chowder. i came to get crawfish. crawfish were really dry they seemed to be steamed not boiled. was served with a container of butter and a container of "seasoning" i guess. wasn't already mixed tasted really weird once fixed together. crawfish had no juice on it. corn was alright no seasonings and potato was really really dry like really dry. there were a few large crawfish but mostly small ones. 4-5 of them looked like they either were dead way before being cooked or were cooked really really long. we're alright for price but i would never come back read more

If I could give them NO stars I sure would. I ordered the chicken gizzard appetizer and they were so old and hard they couldn't be chewed, with NO seasoning. I couldn't even eat them at all. I gave them to my dog and poor thing, she could not even eat them. As I was pulling the breading off, I noticed that they were old and had what looked like freezer burn. The was my first time at Joe's Oyster Bar & Grill which is located next door to Smallcakes Bakery. Stop in Smallcakes for dessert afterwards. As I entered I was told it was sit anywhere so I grabbed one of the tables running along the back wall with banquette seating. The dining area is one large open area with 4 top tables plus an 8 seat bar just as you enter. The minimal decor and vaulted ceiling gives the dining area a spacious feel with a casual atmosphere. You'll find a banquet room for up to 50 guests in the room behind the bar. I love the simple 4 page menu, with larger print, instead of a small novel. They offer a terrific selection of Appetizers from Crab Fingers, Crab Stuffed Jalapenos, Fried Calamari, Ceviche, Charbroiled Oysters and Buffalo Wings to name a few. Soups (Clam Chowder, Seafood Gumbo or Soup of the Day) and 2 Salads (Garden or Caesar) are your lighter, healthier options. As you would guess the majority of the Entrees are seafood with several pork and chicken choices plus a Fettuccine Alfredo with or without protein. The Fried Favorites covers the comfort foods with Beef Liver and Onions, Chicken Fried Steak and Chicken and Steak Fingers. Several types of Po-Boys are available as well as a 1/2 lb. Hamburger and a Chicken Breast sandwich. Recently Joe added Western Steakhouse options for his customers. Now you can order Charbroiled Ribeye, Top Sirloin, Flat Iron Steaks or Chopped Sirloin, Cheddar or Texas Chops with all the trimmimgs. I ordered the Nathan Special with a grilled cod filet, 4 grilled shrimp, a crab cake and served with two sides. I opted for the large, loaded baked potato, a cup of seafood gumbo ($1 upcharge) and a side salad ($2.95). I requested they add a good deal of Cajun seasoning to the filet and they did. It was delicious as well as the tasty crab cake. The shrimp were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The seafood gumbo was made with a dark roux, a small amount of rice and very flavorful. Another small detail not forgotten were the sauces for everything from butter and sour cream for the loaded baked potato plus shrimp and crab cake sauces. It was a large meal so I ended up bring more than half home for dinner tonight. I enjoyed this meal more than the seafood at Seawall Blvd last week. Everything was delicious and affordable with a drink, appetizer, salad, a full entree with 3 types of seafood all for a little over $25. I spent more than that on two small appetizers last week in Galveston. My server, Brittany G. was very nice and checked on me several times throughout my lunch. She was available if needed but not intrusive. I will definitely be returning when I'm in town next time. I highly recommend you give Joe's a try. read more
