John Anthony Vineyards/Wine Bar was a really cool spot to stop at prior to my dinner at E'toile @ Domaine Chandon. It's located in downtown Napa and provides a very trendy yet cool and inviting wine bar run by a bunch of really cool guys. My cousin frequents this wine bar and had me try a few of their wines while I was there. I was pleasantly surprised with the wines that they're presenting in addition to several other wines by the glass from local vineyards. I didn't hate this place, but i didn't love it either. I thought it was a very cute little place - very trendy and the decor was nice. We tried the wine flight tasting. It was nice that it came with meet and cheese, but i still think it was pretty expensive for what it was. The wines themselves were good but also too expensive in my opinion. There are many other wineries in the Napa valley area that were more worth the high price. I do think I'd try this place out again though next time in downtown napa, but maybe as more of an evening hangout. It does seem like a nice place to go to with friends as opposed to a quick tasting which is what my husband and I did. i'd just plan to bring more more money next time I guess! read more

Fantastic tasting on Monday, July 4th with Ted. My wife and I shared a couple of tastings and really enjoyed his approach to walking us through the wines, the story of the winery, and how he included details of the wine growing and production process along the way. Very entertaining, educational, and enjoyable! And since this is a winery, we should spend a moment on the wines themselves - they were exceptional from top to bottom. The Chardonnay was not our favorite, but we LOVED the Church Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc and the Syrah (walked away with bottles of each) and the Merlot was really good as well. The three Cabs we tried were very good, lots of fun and really different from each other. When we come back (and we will come back) I want to try the Cab terroir tasting and the vertical Cab library tasting to continue our wineducation. read more

This is the place to go if you come to Downtown Napa. It's an awesome tasting room beside Andaz. And they have JAM cellars on the other side. The service is great. The wines are really good. We liked the whites, which is not usual. The Sav Blanc was yummy, the Chardonnay also. I really loved the merlot and the cabs are big and bold. I can't wait to return. read more

Kristin and Dave are great, as is the wine. Both are incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about wine and the region and provided a fantastic experience. I imagine their plan is to make it enjoyable and fun so that their guests change their wine allegiance over to John Anthony. It worked. They didn't push wine club membership, but after trying these wines and enjoying them and the education received, I inquired and joined and look forward to my first delivery and next visit to Napa. When we arrived at Napa in the evening, we were eager to have some fun but pretty much all the wineries had closed. Fortunately, John Anthony's tasting room was open until 10pm!! And my husband and I are sleepy old folks, so 10pm was plenty late for us :) We were the only patrons and it was wonderful to have the host to ourselves - he was so, so friendly... I wish I remembered his name because he absolutely earns 5 stars by himself. He taught us a lot about the wine and we also just had fun chatting about where we're from and our career paths. On top of that, the wine was excellent; it was quite pricey, but dare I say it was worth it. I was very impressed by their reds; they were nuanced and very well-balanced. It was out of my budget to become a wine club member or ship a case home, but when we come back to Napa, I would absolutely come here again for an after-dinner tasting! read more

This place is just an amazing Napa experience ! Amazing Wines are above board with customer service and wine knowledge to match! It doesn't matter if its Jessica, Rick, or Miguel we get treated like royalty each and every time. My wife and I bring clients to this place because it always exceeds expectations on what the client anticipated in a Napa tasting room. Recently on a Monday night I treated some friends of mine to J/A and were given the wine tasting experience I never thought possible by Miguel. Wow. Outstanding wine, and if that's not enough, the manager is AWESOME! They were just about closed on a monday night and when we realized they were closed & started walking away, the manager opened the door and let us in even though there was no one in there and it looked like he could've gone home that minute. That shows someone who is invested in the overall success of the vineyard and the company. He told us the best stories about how the wine came to fruition, and we asked about his background. Decent wine, horrific service. My wife and I walked in around 6 and it was a ghost town. After we sat down and ordered a pair of flights we were basically ignored for about ten minutes per pour as the server talked to a friend at the bar and a couple of other gentleman that walked in after us that also sat at the bar. I had to get up and ask for our check after another 15 minutes of sitting without any service. Overall disappointing experience for our first time in Napa. read more

After many tastings all across Napa, this one was definitely the worst. We went downtown to have dinner, and then tried this tasting room which was right across the street. There was a group at the bar so we sat at one of the side tables, we had a group of four. Don't get me wrong, the wine was very nice. It was the service and the server which were terrible. For twenty five bucks a person, we were rushed through a tasting of their wines. He would literally stand over us with the next bottle of wine, when 3 out of four of us all still were sipping the previous wine. It was over in 10 minutes. Quickest hundred bucks ever. The guy would give a 15 second rundown on the wine, leave, then literally a minute later be back with the next wine. No conversation, no time to enjoy, not an experience worthy of the wine. It's a shame that wine of that quality is paired with service of that sort. read more

John Anthony has the most amazing wine. I'm obsessed with it to the point where I even ordered a case and had it shipped to the house.

I was introduced to JA wines in 2008, and have been a huge fan ever since. Their cabernet sauvignon is among the best in Napa, and certainly well worth the price. Their line up is expanding, with great new additional vineyard specific cabernet and a new rose sparkler that is just fabulous. Compared to some of the more expensive Napa wines, they are a great value. The customer service is outstanding, and they always go above and beyond to make the purchasing experience seamless. I strongly recommend becoming a list member; the perks are fantastic. read more

This is a nice an intimate setting to grab a wine flight. Unfortunately they got rid of their cheese plate which is almost a deal breaker. But the wines are pretty good, and some are fairly priced. I would go back, but there are better wine bars in Napa. However, I will say that the ambiance is nice and it's less crowded than other places. read more

Pricey, but fantastic wine! After several failed attempts at wine tasting throughout the day, we headed to downtown Napa and happened to walk by this place and stop in. Prices notwithstanding, we decided to give them a shot. Wow! I'm a huge fan of Cabs and they had a nice lineup of everything from a simple, fruit-forward little number to a huge peppery I'm-ready-to-eat-a-giant-steak monster. I looked up their site afterward and apparently you can get a private tour of their vineyard which I'd definitely like to do at some point. Amazing service! The staff was so kind and welcoming, felt very comfortable. We tried the 2015 Sauvignon blanc, and it was very cold and crisp. We were introduced to JAV through a Groupon tasting at the Wine Bar. We are so glad we checked it out. The wine selection was delicious as well as the carefully selected food pairings. The atmosphere is sophisticated and modern but still warm and inviting. For sure, the best part of the experience was meeting Tess. She was very knowledgeable and friendly. My husband and I wanted her to pull up a chair and have a glass with us! It's pretty quiet before 5pm when all the wineries are open so it's a good place to go if you want low key. My last stop on July 12, 2011 was a visit to John Anthony Wines Tasting Lounge in downtown Napa. If you are staying at the Avia, the lounge is very close to it. The tasting lounge is not only a tasting room, but also operates like a wine bar, adding to the revitalization of downtown Napa. I had an appointment with my friend, the Director of Retail Sales and Hospitality. I was welcomed with a six-wine tasting that included the 2009 Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, 2009 Carneros Church Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc, 2007 Syrah, 2006 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, 2006 Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon, and 2006 Napa Valley Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc. The tasting was accompanied by a delicious cheese and charcuterie platter. The wines, the platter, and the ambience were very nice. read more

A great stop in downtown Napa. John Anthony showcases its fantastic wines, has a beautiful location and is open later than most spots in downtown. The tasting menu changes but I was able to taste their Oak Knoll Cabernet Sauvignon vs. their Coombsville CS and it is great to see the differences. Both are great, as well as the Syrah they pour.
