Poorly run restaurant in terms of management control & customer service in that the employees & manager are always right and the customers are always wrong or mistaken. They are quick to defend themselves instead of simply saying , "I'm sorry, let's take care of you"..The managers very first response was, "I personally train the employees properly". Thus, they are infallible and the customer is imperfect and therefore always wrong. After I suggested to the manager that a simply apology would suffice, he quickly said "we apologize" but again insinuated they made no mistake and simply retracted his apology. What ever happened to the old saying "The Customer is always right". At the end, we bring them job security & income. Met some friends here for dinner one night in the Tetons. Very typical western, ranchy, casual restaurant. We ordered the trout dinner with wild rice pilaf and sautéed carrots, while our friends had the pesto pasta and chicken chopped salad. Service was very good, and the food was fresh and tasty. This is a pretty decent choice if you're in Colter Bay. IMHO, better food and service than the pizzeria/ cafe next door. read more

Great spot! And this is in a National Park...as my husband put it, "literally a place they don't have to try very hard." We're picky millennials who prefer to eat like kings, even when we're camping. I ordered the stuffed salmon special and my husband ordered the beet salad with caramelized goat cheese. The salmon was perfectly cooked. We loved every bite of both dishes. We ordered the huckleberry white chocolate cheesecake for dessert. Perfectly cooked, soft and creamy. We noticed they have an inexpensive salad bar with soup included, if you want to save money. With two beers, entrees and a split dessert, the bill was about $60. Reasonable for such great quality food. If you're too lazy to cook or just want great food, try this place! read more

We stayed in the hotel complex next to this restaurant for one night. Decided to go to the only sit down restaurant in this village. We had practically zero expectations, and boy we were surprised! Very disappointed with the quality of the food for being in a National park. Me and my girlfriend came for breakfast after deciding that we didn't feel like starting a campfire to make our own food. Honestly, we could have made better food on the fire. We came and looked at the breakfast buffet, and after seeing the very limited, hotel like breakfast options, we decided to get one of their "hot meals," and to our disappointment, we received meals that looked like they came straight off the buffet line. Ate here several times during my stay at Colter Bay Village in Grand Teton. I was impressed with the precautions they are taking for COVID-19. For Summer 2020, the inside dining areas are closed and you order, wait, and pick up your food outside. Then, you can sit at one of the many picnic tables (that are appropriately spaced out). The staff sanitize the ordering and pickup stations after each customer. I'm very cautious about eating in restaurants right now because of COVID-19 and I felt comfortable eating here. The staff are all really friendly too. Someone mentioned the food being overpriced and while I do think it is slightly overpriced, you're also eating in the middle of a national park in a remote area. And the quality of the food was good. Side note: if you need wifi at the park, this restaurant and its parking lot had the best connection. read more

The food was really good, the service was just about the worst we have ever had. Hubby had the BBQ plate, which he found very tasty. I loved the bison chili, but it took over 30 minutes from order to table. Frankly, our server had absolutely no clue on how to wait a table. We were seated 10 minutes before our drink orders were taken. He never came back after we placed our order to let us know there was a delay (when our food finally arrived, he said there had been a "mistake in the kitchen" - we were skeptical) but he never checked on us, or apprised us of the delay. After serving the food he never checked on how we were doing, and we waited at least 15 minutes after finishing our meal for the check. We gave NO tip, which is something we, who tip fairly (between 15 & 40%) very rarely do, maybe once a year. read more

The food here is bad. Unfortunately, we had to experience it twice because there's not really anything else around if you're staying in Colter Bay Village. We tried to play it smart and at least order a made-to-order meal rather than have the buffet, which is way overpriced anyway because we aren't going to eat that much. The first day, I tried a chicken fried steak. Seems like something that would be hard to screw up, but the steak breading had absolutely no seasoning on it. In contrast, the gravy on it seemed over seasoned, but there was not enough of it to have with each bite. The "hash browns" they serve are a strange, thin potato shaving that has no seasoning or salt and were severely undercooked. They made me very sad. The second day, I played it safe and just ordered a bowl of granola and a bowl of fruit. It was acceptable, but the fruit bowl had no pineapples in it, when the menu said it did. The service here is OK, kind of hit or miss, a little slow at times waiting for the check and initial "welcome." I'm glad I never have to come back here. read more

Our breakfast was very good, but PRICEY. Over $20 for a two egg breakfast, a coffee and a hot chocolate. The first time there they gave the most amazing, golden cottage potatoes. This is absolutely the best restaurant during our trip at Grand Teton and Yellowstone! We came here assumed the quality and price of the food would be as what the tourists attractions normally do. However, we were impressively surprised by the quality of the food and the price is even better than what we have in cities like Boston and DC. (8/20/2016) You're a little bit trapped if you're traveling through the National Parks and didn't bring your bag lunch with you (or just got tired of eating cold, backpack squashed sandwiches and your sad looking bruised banana). We did and stopped in to John Colter Cafe Court for some hot food. Cheap, it is not, but you're kind of a captive audience at this point. Likely capitalizing on Chipotle's recent mass market appeal, they've got a $12 build-your-own burrito on the menu. Got the pulled BBQ pork, it was decently moist and tender, and had sufficient (albeit a touch sweet) tangy BBQ sauce to be flavorful. Got everything in it (why not), Spanish rice, touch underdone (some might call it al dente, we called it a little hard to eat), spiced everything up with a little tableside Tabasco, size was a fairly hefty one pound or so. Some inefficiency between the register you order from, the register you pay at on the other side of the room, and the waiting for table service. It's a weird mix of cafeteria cum cafe. Overall, summer help was very nice and I did appreciate an opportunity to sit in a real chair at a dining room table and eat hot food with silverware. read more

One does not go to the Grand Tetons for the food, but expects the food to be tolerable. It is not. The only thing worse than the food was the service. We waited 40 minutes on two sandwiches when there were less than 10 people in the restaurant. Our server apologized for the delay saying they were transitioning from the breakfast menu. It was after 2 PM. The hamburger was dry and the pulled pork was worse, both dry and so tough you couldn't cut it with a knife. The buns were both very hard and very dry. The only thing that wasn't dry was the water and it took two glasses to wash the food down. Go to McDonalds in Jackson Hole. Save $30 and get a better meal. read more

Everything was delicious. Our server, Kayla, was very nice! Lots of food. Breakfast burrito was huge, although there were way too many potatoes inside the burrito. When it came, it looked huge, but a decent amount of it was potatoes. To top that off, there was a side of potatoes. Overpriced for the portions. I guess I'm just used to bigger portions at these prices, for this kind of food. It's not "gourmet" enough to justify the small portions. When we were there, they were out of ribs, which is what I had really been looking forward to. I moved to order a different dish, only to be informed they were out of ALL of the sides except salad. I am extremely surprised by some of the other reviews that the Ranch House has received from other Yelpers. Not only did we receive excellent and friendly service, but our food was delicious. We were on our way back to Teton Village (after a long day in Yellowstone), and we stopped by Colter Bay to enjoy the sunset. We were surprised when we looked at our watch and found that it was almost 9:00pm! We quickly made our way to the restaurant, and even though we were walking in at 8:55pm, the hostess was delighted to sit us (the restaurant closes at 9pm). Since they were kind enough to sit us, we quickly looked over the menu and ordered right away. The buffalo wings were very flavorful, as were the fried pickles (watch out...they are HOT on the inside!). The ribs were fall off the bone delicious, and the salads were huge! In addition, the huckleberry margarita was so refreshing (a little sweet, but it's a fruity drink!). The only downer was the onion soup, but even that was not awful. When we left the restaurant, I told the manager that our waiter was delightful and that we were so pleasantly surprised to find such good food in a national park. We would DEFINITELY recommend this place to anyone. read more
