The day after our friends' wedding a small group of us gathered at the Branding Iron for breakfast. I ordered the Wydaho skillet and Nate got the biscuits and gravy special. The food was pretty quick to come out and it looked tasty. I loved the skillet - the potatoes were nicely cooked and were a good size dice. There were some veggies to make it feel healthier than it really was, and the sausage had a bit of a kick to it. I asked for over easy eggs, which were really over hard, but that was okay. The portion size was just what I needed and I devoured the whole skillet. It would be nice to have a side of toast if you're really hungry. Pricing was pretty decent given the resort location. We sat outside and soaked up the sun. Our server was polite and efficient. I'd definitely come back here for breakfast again if I was staying at Grand Targhee in the future. They have a full bar and the bloody Mary looked great. read more

Located at the bottom of the lifts makes this the perfect place for lunch! Service is a bit on the slower side, specially ordering right around lunch time. Specials are posted outside-- usually a burger. Current special was a pulled pork sandwich, nothing out of this world. Was a bit dry. Server recommend the BanH Mi and it was unreal!! Everyone enjoyed a variation of a sandwich/burger and the consensus was that the BanH Mi was the best! Fries are good. Fountain drinks-- free refills! While my entree was disappointing we were very happy to receive biodegradable to go box and utensils. We came in for dinner and I ordered the "Bolognese" but what I received was more of a bland tasteless stroganoff that I didn't finish. We also ordered a cheese and meat platter that was palatable. I've never written a bad review for anything before, but the service and meal I received at Branding Iron was literally the worst of my life. The server, Heather, was fine at first. Her anxious energy made me feel uneasy, but whatever. Then she brought my margarita. After a few sips, I noticed a 3/4" long COCKROACH drowned in the BOTTOM of the glass. WTF?? The only way it could have gotten in there was if it was scooped in with the ice... so they have roaches in their ice. I said, "Excuse me Heather, this is DISGUSTING. I hope you comp that." She tried to crack a joke like "Oh, he must have been thirsty." She wasn't even surprised like it happens all the time?? Big yikes. She brought me a fresh drink and I said "Did you comp that?" Heather, super snarky, said "No, I brought you a fresh one." Talk about shite customer service. I didn't want a fresh drink with ROACH ICE in it, I wanted my money back. Ended up having to talk to the manager to get the drink comped. I still tipped $10, not because of the absolute garbage performance of the service staff, but because I believe servers deserve a living wage. The Waygu burger was meh. Prob had roaches in it but I was super hungry. read more

We love coming to Grand Targhee, It's a spring break favorite for my son and I. With that said,, once you choose to stay up on the mountain your culinary choices are limited and all appear to be GTR company owned. My son wanted to eat at the branding Iron, on a past trip we had a good dinner their and he remembered it well. We ordered the Brussels App, and I had a martini to start. The Martini made by Mike our server wad really good, he stuffed some olives with blue cheese for me, " Nice Touch" , The Brussels were over cooked,, a bowl of burnt leaves with no seasoning at all. Strike One ! Our meals came out on time ish, I had the short ribs, decent presentation tasty jus, the broccoli in the veggie mix looked like it had been sitting around since lunch, my short ribs were under cooked and took some labor to debone and chew. I got through it,, but by no means was a "Impressed." Strike Two. My Son's Burger was ordered Med Rare, and he'd asked for lettuce and tomato, it came plated open face with none of the veg, ( Alt Server ) Mike was taking another order. It was hot but solid med to nearly well cooked. Again virtually no seasoning on the beef. Strike Three. Staff was friendly and attentive I'll give em that, our hostess was adorable, Janie,,, working double duty at the coffee / lunch place in the Plaza during the day and running the floor at the B I at night. Went for Father's day late lunch... 8 customers in restaurant when arrived. 15 minutes to get my drink (a can of beer) Ok, they have been open for only 2 days prior (summer hours ya know) but still, dining room is tiny but yet COMPLETE CLUSTER F¥€K here today... Guy next to got Mac & Cheese which took 30 minutes to receive...general manager should be booted out for TOTAL INCOMPETENCE. Only thing keeping this place alive is the mountain/resort. Update- lowered my 2 stars to 1, they are SUPER slow at this dive and I can get better bar & grill food in the Valley...NEVER coming back due to the less than 0 service and mediocre bar & grill food Updating this again, because I don't think the owners or managers of this dive realize how bad it is, or maybe its a "well, doesn't really matter how our service is ... and food can be just ok since there are only a few places up here..." ONLY go up to the "resort" area for skiing, biking, hiking and outdoor activities and the scenic views of course...pack a lunch if you do drive up there and you will be much happier ... especially for special occasions. I do however, hope you read this and the other poor ratings (I am not the only very bad review) of your place on Yelp etc. so I honestly do hope you can do better... if not, then I would expect the Branding Iron to drop out of existence sooner than later. read more

Do yourself a favor and save your money. This place is a complete joke. Over priced, service was horrible and the food was awful. To the point that the server doesn't even come back after dropping the food off to ask how your food tastes. The server didn't even ask me why I had left half of my tiny pasta when I had hiked 8 miles earlier that day. The meat was so salty that it was not palatable. Management didn't care about anyone else besides a large party inside. For me to leave a $5 tip on over $100 bill is not within my character but I wanted to make sure and drive a point to the establishment that they really need some fixing. As a former restaurant manager and former bar manager this place is completely missing out on a golden opportunity to make money due to their location. Save your money and drive down the mountain to get yourself some food at the grocery store or wait for the other place to be open on weekends. Or Snorkles Cafe is the morning, their breakfast is on point and so is their service. read more

What can I say positive about this place? In the words of a famous song....what is it good for.......absolutely nothing. I don't really have anything nice to say about this restaurant. I always try to. Let me see the views are good. There got that out of the way. It's funny because the other restaurants on site just seem to be run better. Service was mediocre at best. Our server was busy flirting with other servers while our food came out with a person not in server attire and holding a clip board. When the food was served it was very similar to what was being served in the cafeteria only five dollars more. We ordered the special pulled pork and the best salad with chicken. To say the chicken was frozen and rubbery is an understatement. The beats in the salad were a little crunchy. Does that mean they were the only fresh thing? The salad was wilted and browned throughout. I don't know where it came from but it wasn't today's salad. The pork seemed left over and salty. It was less than special that's for sure. It's pretty clear that the reason. The other restaurants are packed is the food is better the service is better and the prices are better. read more

My husband and I were at the resort for the Ski lift ride to the top. Originally was not planning on eating there. Since it was noonish and we had early dinner reservations we thought we would split the wedge salad and chicken wings appetizer. We were expecting maybe 6 to 8 wings, we got 12 large wing pieces. The miso sauce was a unique flavor for wings, it was absolutely delicious! What we thought was a pricy meal ended up being a treat. We got a lot of food for the price we paid, worth it. read more

We were extremely disappointed with the food in presentation, small portions, and flavor of the cauliflower appetizer which was way too spicy, to the point of being inedible. The sumac carrots were a delightful surprise. The beef sirloin was small and undressed; you don't just serve a hunk of meat for $28.00, which tasted average. There was no bread or crackers with the soup. The service was prompt and polite. But for what we paid, I felt it was very overpriced. read more

Back in the day the Irish breakfast came with candied bacon...no more, so sad 18 dollars for the most disgusting fondue I have ever had, no burgers etc. our server was snotty and rude so we left and went back to town for dinner. I've been coming here for a few years now and it's never let me down. Not a "super" exciting place but you can always count on a nice meal and service. Although it's changed management several times over the years, it has been seamless. During the summer, they have outdoor seating. If you are there for Thanksgiving, their special is always very nice. read more

I would really like to give this place a much higher rating because the food is that good but the service is inadequate. A large part of the problem is that the wait staff have to prepare the cocktails their guests order because there is no bartender. The manager also mentioned that the restaurant was busier than they normally are at that hour. Maybe so, but the sketchy service really affected the overall dining experience. Another negative was the pervasive presence of bugs at the tables by the windows. UGH. An exterminator is not a bad idea but it was pretty clear to me that the windows need to be caulked and a screened door should be placed at the restaurant entrance. read more

Have had numerous bad experiences at the Branding Iron. I guess lack of dining choices at the mountain lead us to go back. A couple weeks ago we ate there and French onion was the "soup of the day" two days in a row. My daughter ordered chicken noodle and it came with pasta - not noodles. Very disappointing. Last year we ordered the soup of the day - mushroom - and it was so bad we sent it back to the kitchen. We stayed two nights at the Grand Targhee Resort this summer and had two excellent meals at the Branding Iron Grill. I had a farmers market special with freshly made kale fettuccine and lots of early summer vegetables the first night and a roasted cauliflower salad with grilled scallops the second nights. It was the best ski resort food I've ever had and the patio dining was a perfect setting. read more

Ate a delicious lunch up here before taking the chair lift to the top of the mountain with my family, we had a great server, the food was wonderful, and sitting outside watching the mountain made it perfect. Their lunch menu is fairly simple with some salads, sandwiches, burgers and a few apps, I recommend the PBBB (peanut butter bacon burger) which was very interesting, and for someone who loves thai, peanut butter, and bacon was a great choice. After we ate, we went and walked lunch off by hiking around on the top of Fred's mountain and enjoying some Teton views. Overall a great experience! read more

Due to exhaustion from riding a horse all day, we decided to check out this restaurant because it was right downstairs from the Grand Targhee Hotel. On the positive side, the service for this restaurant was fantastic. Despite low expectations, we were profoundly disappointed by our $75 New Year's Eve prix fixe experience. Although martini onions were requested directly to the barkeep, an olive arrived swimming helplessly in search of a toothpick. This was remedied. My Malbec truly gave Malbec a bad name, but I finished it, because I'm no wine snob (it's NYE but there's no bubbly by the glass). Our server offered me more wine; he suggested a sample of the rose; it failed. After tasting the Sauvignon Blanc, I opted for water (and I'm no wine snob!) Our amuse buche was a glob of cheese (said to be brie but seemed like Philadelphia cream cheese) with grapes and nuts on a crisp slice of French bread. His pomegranate salad got rave reviews; my cauliflower bisque probably would have tasted good back when it was hot; but scarcely room temperature when served. Now the long wait for our entrees; another table seated at least 20 minutes later has been served, yet here we sit, with no attention or updates from our server. At least we have a few slices of decent bread - surely the entrees will save the day - but my lukewarm sea bass tasted fishy and rested upon a bed of mediocre spinach; lying in state beside a pile of dreary scalloped potatoes. Really, how did you manage to extract all the joy from scalloped potatoes? His duck leg was "mediocre", accompanied by sweet potatoes that "weren't very good" and we lamented our dining choice. His chocolate truffle cake scored "average", my gingerbread Yule log consisted of stale cake rolled with a mysterious ginger-like glurp. Although we've had decent lunches here, we can't recommend any aspect of our most recent investment. read more

The Branding Iron has outstanding service! The food is delicious and served beautifully. The breakfast buffet is very reasonable for all they have to offer. The Chicken entree for dinner is my favorite and they serve the best Mac-n-cheese I've ever had. The ambiance of the whole restaurant shows off Targhee well with a big antler chandelier and old photos of Wyoming cowboys. Fun and friendly place to enjoy a meal! read more

This is my second time eating at Branding Iron, but first time having dinner. I ate here in January for the Apre Ski specials. The Lamb ribs were amazing, but no longer on the menu. Part of that is because only about 4 or 5 places in the whole country cut lamb ribs vs more standard rack of lamb. My dinner was superb. I had the fried chicken with homemade noodles and was the most unique and delightful take on fried chicken I've ever had. No breading! The other person in my party had the Meatloaf (elk, beef, and bison) and not only was it a massive portion served with a side of pork belly, it was very lean and very tasty. Branding Iron is a fantastic place to eat in GT for Apre or Entre. read more
