Additionally, the office took a lot of time to help me choose a specific pair of glasses (I'm incredibly picky and indecisive so it was no easy task). Wow. I read the reviews and was hopeful, but I am always wary. One Yelper's five star is another Yelper's nightmare. However, Dr, Maanum and his office staff lived up to the glowing reviews and then some. I haven't had an eye examine for years. I just kept getting contacts with the same old prescription and hoping I would be able to read the exit signs on the freeway. Dr. Maanum was very helpful and didn't once shake his finger at me for letting my eyes go so neglected and made no furrowed brow when I said I left my month long contacts in for a lot longer than the one month. I have tried one or two different optometrists over the last 10 years and I always felt their examine prices were inflated, their customer service and friendliness left me grumpy, and they just never seemed helpful. Some tried to push me toward Lasik. Dr. Maanum was attentive, helpful and careful in his exam. He is friendly and definitely am sending my husband and son to him! Also in my past experiences with optometrists, they left me confused about what my insurance covered and didn't cover. And they always wanted to push me toward some designer frames I didn't really want. At Dr. Maanum's office, there was no up-sell pressure, no pushing and when I said I wanted my insurance to cover close to all of the cost of the frame, Jenn kindly showed me to their lowest priced frames and remained helpful even though I wouldn't be spending several hundred dollars. She also helped me figure out what my insurance benefits allowed. Finally, because I wanted a pair of glasses, my insurance wouldn't cover contacts, but Dr. Maanum agreed to price match 1-800-Contacts! And they did all the ordering work for me! Dr. Maanum's office went above and beyond to make me comfortable and I am so happy to have found this office! *Logistical Addendum* I didn't ask if there was a garage, but the office is at the fork of Pico and Beverwil on the north side. I was lucky and found parking right outside the building on the street. It can be crowded and parking spotty on Pico, so just a head's up, you may need to go around the block once or twice. read more

Lately, It seems to be a very important trip of mine that, when I really (and I mean REALLY) feel happy about an experience, I should share it with the highest praise. Here's the deal: I haven't had my eyes checked since I was 12, and I've had no reason. For man, many years, lucky me, my eyes have been fantastic. Until the last couple months. So, I buckled under the strain and randomly chose an Optometrist out of my Insurance's directory. Dr Maanum is top notch. Extremely aware of both his field as well as his technology, he comes across as a Doctor first, and a salesman 2nd. And frankly, if you're the kind of person who has to go yearly, or more often, he'd probably end up a friend too. His is a more boutique-sized business, and I feel that gives him a little more time to talk to you like a human and not like cattle. His staff is fantastic. They re-confirmed appointments, double checked my insurance (without making any of it feel annoying). Jasmine helped me select the frames, and didn't mind staying yes, FORTY FIVE minutes after they technically closed on a Friday to help me take pictures of my narcissitic jug so I could text them to my wife for a 2nd opinion. And all the while she sincerely chimed in with her own opinions. You could certainly do worse than Dr Maanum's office. But more importantly, you'd be hard pressed to do better. Oh, and the results? I still have 20/20. They're setting me up with computer glasses to help reduce strain, because obviously I spend too much time on it! My lord, it's 7:30 in the morning and I'm typing a Yelp review??????? Someone please intervene. Try Dr Maanum. You won't be sorry. read more

Dr. Maanum really is a top notch optometrist. Iris-pect the fact that he takes his time to perform each exam fully and thoroughly, as well as expertly address all patient concerns in great detail. You will never feel rushed to leave, and no one will lash out on you if you ask too many questions. All the exam equipment is state-of-the-art and technologically up-to-date, so you know that you really are getting the best care. The staff here are always friendly and helpful. No matter how busy the office gets, they'll always make sure you feel welcome by engaging in conversation with you as soon as you walk in. When it comes to dealing with insurance and picking out glasses, they are always willing to work with me until we're both able to see eye to eye on what I want. Also, they're not afraid to be honest with you when you're trying out frames, so if a certain style does or doesn't look good on you, they will let you know! :) One visit here, and you'll see why it's blindingly obvious that Dr. Maanum's office is the best place to go for all your eye care needs. Let me start by saying this is my second Optometrist experience in LA. My health insurance just recently added vision, and i chose Dr. Maanum through cross-referencing Yelp reviews with the search engine on my Insurance's website. This time I really lucked out and yelpers came through. I can say, hands down, the best Optometrist office I've been to, and that includes the one I went to when growing up. Dr. Maanum invests in the most state of the art technology for his office, and is fantastic about taking his time and explaining every step of the way. His staff are all very kind and helpful. When you are shopping for glasses, you won't hear only what you want to hear, they will give you an honest opinion of how they look on you. That's the kind of experience that will keep me coming back! The staff also helped me understand what my insurance did and did not cover before I started my shopping, so I knew what I was getting into as far as cost, which freed my mind up to worry less on how much the frames were so I could make a choice I was happier with. I went in for an extensive eye exam and it was by far one of the best Dr. Appointments I have ever had. Dr. Maanum was so helpful,gentle, and made me feel at ease. I've found a new optometrist. I have never had my eyes examined here, nor have I purchased anything from them. "Why then," you may ask, "is Dr. Maanum your new optometrist??" Let me tell you. A couple of weeks ago I sat on my glasses, a skill that I have become quite adept at, and attempted to do the DIY fix-job on them. I took out one of the screws, but for the life of me I couldn't get it back in. So, since the place I got them from was 15 miles away, I hoped that I could find a kindly optician near my work who could help me out. The first shop I stopped at, who shall remain nameless, (Optical Boutique on Wilshire), wasn't quite what I was expecting. I explained the situation to the lady sitting at the desk in the empty store, and after hearing me lament, informed me that she would do it, but there wasn't a tech there, and she was the only one in the store, and she had to be at the desk for doctor's calls, and blah, and blah, and blah. This is not my new optometrist. So I searched for another optician near the gym that I work out at after work. This turned out to be Dr. Maanum's office. Dr. Maanum was sitting at the front desk, and I explained my predicament to him and he replied, "Sure, we can fix those for you," and handed the glasses to the smiling young lady who came to see if she could help. She took the glasses into the back and was gone for quite a while, during which time Dr. Maanum carried on an informative and congenial conversation with me. The young lady came back into the office to apologetically say she's having a bit of trouble getting the screw into the near-impossibly located hole. At this point Dr. Maanum took the glasses behind the scenes to give it a whirl. After about 15 minutes the young lady reappeared and informed me, with a look of regret, that they would have to get a longer screw which they didn't have right then, and I could pick them up tomorrow (Saturday) or Monday. Promptly at 10:30 on Saturday morning I got the call telling me that my glasses were ready. I drove to their office to find my glasses perfectly repaired and fitting better than ever. As you can see, Dr. Maanum and his staff went far out of their way (understatement) to help me when I wasn't even a patient of theirs. Really great service! Completely deserves the 5 stars. I went here for a check-up/buy contact lenses because it was close to my new home without reading any reviews/recommendations but I was not disappointed! I've been to some optometrists with perfunctory service who commoditized their customers; Dr.Maanum and his staff (Jen helped me out) were so caring, friendly and PATIENT while being professional. My insurance wasn't showing up at first but Jen took the time to work through all the kinks and everything was fine. They also took me through every option I had and were clear on what was and wasn't covered by my insurance. Couldn't of gone better! Right when you walk in the office is clean, bright and inviting. The ladies at the front desk were super welcoming and kind. If you can fill out the "new patient" form online prior to your visit, that always helps. Their selection of frames is almost too much, but in a good way. They have all the top designers and plenty others to choose from that are budget friendly. Dr. Maanum is such a sweet soul and explains everything to you in a way you can understand. Dr. Maanum is a pro! I have really severe astigmatism and require special lenses for both my eyes, so I have always had a hard time finding good eye doctors who can really give me good vision. Had a really good experience here, everyone is super friendly and helpful. Was really quick to be seen and the exam went fast as well, in and out in about an hour. They have a wide selection of frames to choose from. Doesn't try too hard to upsell their services and products, the staff was very helpful in the frame and lenses selection and breaking down the costs after my insurance. I think they have some of the latest equipment as well that's more comfortable for patients. My former OD had to shoot a puff of something in the eye for one test, but their machine doesn't need to do that. Sorry I don't know the technical name for it. I have been seeing Dr. Maanum for a few years now. Always a wonderful experience. However, he recently helped my family in a way that is priceless. My daughter's pediatrician referred us to a doctor because she had blurry vision. However, because of that doctor's arrogance and neglect, my 4 year old little girl has a severe eye disease that has gone untreated for nearly 6 months and is effecting her vision. I took her to Dr. Maanum and with thorough exams, he quickly spotted the problem and we are getting proper treatment. His care for my daughter's eyes and willingness to help us gently navigate through the needed eye care has put me at ease. I didn't expect anything less from him as he has always been very thorough with care even while I have been pregnant or nursing... but this has put him on another level! He is outstanding! The staff was incredibly sweet, efficient and helpful. Never have to wait more than 5 minutes to see him. Parking in LA isn't great but oh so worth the slight inconvenience to see the best OD in LA. read more

He even told me I do not need glasses (which is great! I never really thought I needed any but I kept getting prescriptions for some very weak tho)... He did prescribe me computer glasses bc of the amount of screen time I have due to my work. He has all the updated-modern equipment and showed me 360 degrees image of my eyes (so cool)! Reviewing my 3/2019 exam and 9/2019 visit for a warranty issue. Dr. Maanum and his staff are very professional, and unlike my last optometrist experience, this was flawless. I was offered and accepted a new diagnostic scan, which gave me assurance about my eye health. Both my progressive and reader prescriptions were perfect the first time, and I love my new progressive frames. Unfortunately, I "cooked" my readers in August - I left them in my hot car for a week during vacation and ruined the lenses. Dr. Maanum's staff was able to secure a new pair under my warranty.
