I saw Dr Koot numerous times in 2012 (after not being to the dentist in 2 years--I was 28 when I saw Dr Kootj). I don't even know if he's still practicing but he was the best dentist I've ever had. He is so precise with crowns and fillings--truly like a Picasso of dentistry. I will note that he is so incredibly eccentric that he may come across as mad as a hatter to some people. I was in Vegas last year and my crown came out. I had to find a dentist asap and found dr koot. The experience was extremely unnerving and unusual. The front office people very nice. Dr koot was in the lobby when I arrived and said I had a funny accent or some peculiar comment . He wanted to do surgery on me and put in an implant, I told him all I wanted was to get the tooth re cemented in and my dentist in az will take it from there. Dr koot was very unprofessional going on with very bizarre language and insulting dialogue. When My mouth was in pain and I was short on money. They knew the right procedures to do on me to get me out of pain and still save my teeth until I could afford to get the rest of the work done. I was in desperate need of emergency dentist for my 8 year son on New Year's Eve!! After a google search I found Dr. Koot.. I called at close to 8 pm on New Year's Eve and he said to come down to the office!! There was no office staff there... just him... but he took good care of my son that had an abscess around his tooth spacer... and he didn't charge a arm and leg for it!!! I've been going to Dr. Koot for years on and off, since I was a child, He is a phenomenal Dentist. I very much so recommend him and his practice. He has fixed and done root canals on my teeth and fillings. I had gone to a previous dentist (Columbia Dental) in Henderson, where they actually left a file in my tooth and messed up on what they were working on, and it was causing me quite a deal of pain. I called Dr. Koot and made a appointment and he got me in right away and fixed the tooth and did the root canal on it, and its been months since I have got it done and it feels great! no pain at all. I use to go to this dentist regularly. He was super odd and the things he talked about were... different but he always seemed like a good dentist. He helped fix my front teeth and did a lot of things I thought were for my benefit. He also removed my wisdom teeth without putting me to sleep but only removed 3 stating that the 4th was tiny and not in the way of anything but I could have it removed later if I wanted. Here it is 3.5 years later and all the sudden I have this swelling and I'm in a ton of pain. Turns out that because that tooth wasn't removed as it should have been that it became infected to a point where I couldn't reach it. Meaning in my jaw. To make matters worse this tooth was growing past the nerve in my jaw. Today I sat with a different dentist because my insurance changed. I did some research and looked up reviews as fast as I could and made an emergency appointment. This dentist referred me to an oral surgeon who told me I now had no choice but to remove it and because of its proximity to the nerve I could permanently lose some feeling in my lip if the nerve is damaged upon extraction. He explained that there would be other options that are less damaging but because it's infected he would have no way of knowing how bad it was. Aside from this incident the dr koot had helped me get work done when I couldn't afford it and promised me payment plans. His office ladies were not on the same page and called me regularly and we not always kind. I don't want to destroy this doctors office. They helped me in a time of need but I have to give them one star when I found that the advice the was given tdoesn't line up with industry standards and that their equipment is outdated and utensils sometimes dirty because they aren't always new. They just steam them in a little cleaner machine. I think if the office and the doctor got with the times they could deliver better service to their patients. I think Dr koot is a pleasant man and his heart may be in the right place but telling me X-rays each year aren't necessary and that all my wisdom teeth don't need removed has caused me harm. I trusted this dentist and would have seen him today had my insurance not changed and if their office had opened earlier. I'm glad I didn't because I'm worried they would have just given me antibiotics and sent me home because he's not an oral surgeon. Bad advice for me today could have meant losing feeling in my face because of the placement of this tooth that would supposedly never be an issue. It was growing through my nerve and this dentist who doesn't like to take X-rays annually because it's unnecessary exposure missed it or didn't look close enough. For any dentist you go to look up reviews. Not all dentists are the same just because they have a degree. He may be great at doing cheap work if you're in a bind but you get what you pay for. read more

I had a horrible experience with Dr.Koot, he was incredibly unprofessional and the emergency treatment that he provided has caused permanent nerve damage. I was in Las Vegas for a holiday and chipped my tooth, I needed a root canal. I had called my best friend in Canada (also a dentist) and had her communicate with Dr.Koot. They agreed that a root canal was necessary. He started the procedure and was focusing more on my partner than myself. He had to try to remove the root 4 times and therefore had to complete 4 x-rays (all of which he charged me for). He rebonded my tooth and decided to give me a discount because my partner was attractive. When I returned to Canada I had blurred vision and excruciating pain. I went to my dentist where they x-rayed the tooth and sent me to a specialist. The root canal was not done properly. I had to have another root cnal on the same tooth a week later. The specialist had never seen the material that was used in my tooth. He later called Dr.Koot to find out that it was sargenti paste. The American Association of Endodontics state that: "Paraformaldehyde-containing endodontic filling materials or sealers (frequently known as Sargenti pastes, N-2, N-2 Universal, RC-2B or RC-2B White) should not be used for endodontic treatment because those materials are unsafe. Extensive scientific research has proven unequivocally that paraformaldehyde-containing filling materials and sealers can cause irreversible damage to tissues near the root canal system including the following: destruction of connective tissue and bone; intractable pain; paresthesia and dysthesia of the mandibular and maxillary nerves; and chronic infections of the maxillary sinus. Moreover, scientific evidence has demonstrated that the damage from paraformaldehyde-containing filling materials and sealers is not necessarily confined to tissues near the root canal. The active ingredients of these filling materials and sealers have been found to travel throughout the body and have been shown to infiltrate the blood, lymph nodes, adrenal glands, kidney, spleen, liver and brain. . . . Public health concerns and litigation have made the AAE aware of a significant number of patients who have suffered injuries as a result of treatment with paraformaldehyde-containing filling materials and sealers. Undoubtedly, there are many other patients who have also suffered injuries because of these materials, but whose injuries have not been publicly disclosed [4]." To make matters worse I discovered after my repeat root canal that Dr.Koot did not use a dental dam to protect my tooth from infection. This resulted in me being on antibiotics for a month. In Canada, a dentist can loose their liscense to practice for not using a dental dam during a root canal. I still have pain and it's been two months. I'm currently waiting to have a crown done on this tooth and I will be filing a formal complaint with the Nevada State Dental Board. I communicated with Dr.Koot to get my money back and he recharged me the discount and refunded me for the root canal. The first cheque that he sent me bounced. I just really don't want this to happen to another person. I would not wish this experience on anyone. read more

Dr. Koot is absolutely fantastic! The first night we arrived in Las Vegas for our family vacation, I had the biting surface crown of my back molar fall off, after a buffet dinner1 Dr Koot was so dedicated, that he came in after hours at only an hour's notice. He explained why the crown fell off and replaced it so quickly and precisely that it feels even better now than it did when it was originally set! Dr. Koot is extremely honest, energetic, friendly, welcoming, bright, caring and sensitive to the needs of his patients. I was so impressed with him in all aspects, that I asked him to look at my daughter's teeth, because her teeth had been rapidly yellowing for no discernible reason. He complied, polished her teeth, and they immediately looked normal again. Her regular dentist told her she had "aberrant enamel" and needed bimonthly fluoride treatments. Dr. Koot said her teeth are perfectly normal and need no such thing, and that the excess fluoride could have caused her yellowing. We are two months out, and her teeth still have not yellowed, but stayed shiny and bright! He is a credit to his profession.
