Big difference in taste and it was delicious. I'm also picky about rice peas as a Jamaican I know what authentic JA food should taste like. In my opinion they have the BEST most flavorful rice and peas in the area. Only wish they served larger portions of it. Cabbage was seasoned and cooked well with a bit of crunch as it should have. I recommend trying if you're in the mood for a jerk chicken or JA food in general. Portion and price were good. Food was ready quickly. Service was good.

The plantains were some of the best I've experienced. They were soft in the middle but had a crispy crunchy exterior. Very good! The cabbage was seasoned well, but more crunchy than I usually like. The flavor was really good!! Overall, a good experience. It is a no frills space, with good food and the lady at the counter was nice to me as a 1st timer! Thank you for that! I tipped accordingly... I'll be back for sure. It might be my new go to spot. Stay tuned...

Puerto Rican cuisine is far from an area of my expertise, but I am well-versed in the perils of the…read morebuffet. Few cuisines lend themselves to buffet service as only certain types of foods sit well for long periods of time. Fried foods are the worst, as their golden crispy crunch can quickly become oily and soggy. Roasted foods aren't much better, as they begin to dry out as they sit. The only things that preserve well are soups and other liquid-based foods, as they are kept the proper temperature while still maintaining their original quality. As such, my experience with the buffet at Borinquen was decidedly mixed. Things like the lentils, beans, and this fish and potato stew were nice and interesting, and I was even able to catch some fried fish as it was coming out of the oven that was enjoyable, too. The fried plantains, on the other hand... not so much. I'm left with an impression of a restaurant that certainly has what it takes to offer some good Puerto Rican food, but the talent is being squandered by the lunch buffet. Dinner would probably be a better bet.

We had to ask how things operate and a lady told us it's self serve buffet style. We filled our plates and paid then sat down. Not once did anyone come over and ask how things were or check on us for anything. The food was less than mediocre Latin cuisine, really nothing special or worth driving to far for. Too bad because being Hispanic myself and being new to the Columbus area, I was really looking forward to some good Latin food but I didn't find that here. We didn't even go back for seconds. I used the restroom before I left and they were dirty and smelled bad. This entire place was one big disappointment.
