Front office receptionist ( lorraine) Please be careful and aware of your insurance benefits before you come in here because they will CHARGE you if you are not aware! After I was charged $120 for an eval I called my insurance ( Delta Dental of Washington PPO) to confirm if I was eligible for an exam free of charge. I was told by my insurance to demand a refund because I should've never been charged for my visit at Dr. Yuns office. I was referred here for periodontal examination by my primary dentist. Came early to fill up some minor paperwork since I'm new to the practice. There was a temperature self check device on entry , and as a courtesy to all, please wear a face mask. The front office staff person Lucy was very helpful on the phone - the building looks like every other building -Same blue gray color with stone facades and shrubbery, that I was lost a bit looking for it. Dr. Yun quickly went into the periodontal examination -that's where the health of your gums are checks for shrinking away from the teeth or receding gums. I had another issue that was happening and he took X-rays of that area. I'm old enough to remember having X-rays taken on film that needs to be developed in a back room. These days it's a quick digital photo and it's available immediately!! Dr. Yun was very efficient and professional, he took time to answer my questions and made recommendations that were very reasonable and acceptable- as in if it ain't broke, don't mess with it. I would recommend the business for its staff, and the modernity of equipment. Brush, floss and rinse out those meals with lots of water to keep your teeth and gums in great shape!! We came to doctor John's because the specialist, at my dentist, said the work that she need to have done. It was beyond his capabilities. My dentist gave me a list of 4 periodontics to see, some did no longer accept in my insurance. One we almost went with just 4, the implants. Well, it's gonna be over $28000. He wanted to do a twilight sleep The whole job at 1 time and it wanted to get paid up front, and then they sent us to a specialist to have the caps Done. And they had Wanted to redo her whole mouth with caps this place was a scam If we did what they wanted to, we'd probably be thirty five thousand dollars in the hole. When we went to doctor John's, he explained how you'd want to group your teeth and twos or 3's. How it makes a better bond for they don't get loose. I personally thought individual would be better, but he explained why that is not better. He does not believe in the twilight sleep. Because that's how people pass away sometimes, and i've heard this from other people too, i was in the room when they were doing the surgery. My wife, job that I thought would have took an hour or 2 hours to do he had done in half an hour both times, this doctor is amazing.I wish I'd have found him when I had to do my implants. His technique is different, then how I had it.Done. i believe the estimated cost was around $16000, but after using my insurance for over a period of 2 years to do the work. For I could use the insurance each year. I think our cost was around $5000 out-of-pocket. [[HIGHLIGHT]]His front end staff and his dental assistant are amazing people. I can't say that I'm a fan of any dentist, however I will say that Dr. Yun is a super-star. My regular dentist referred me to Dr. Yun to assess and possibly extract a broken tooth that was the subject of a previous root canal (at another endodontist). It was very easy to schedule appointments that were convenient for my schedule and his front office staff were very efficient when handling submittals to my insurance company for coverage. Well, sure enough, the tooth was in a really bad way and couldn't be saved, so earlier this week I went in for the extraction. Other than the initial discomfort from the numbing shots, the sound of the drill, and the smell of smoke from the tooth, there was literally no pain...really! By the time the local anesthesia wore off, there was so little discomfort that I really didn't even need to take a pain pill. The stitches seem to be done so well that I can tell they're in there, but they will come out in about a week, then a couple months before the next steps. I highly recommend Dr. Yun to anyone who needs to see a periodontist. I look forward to updating this review once all services are completed. read more

Usually don't leave reviews but my experience at Dr Yun's office warrants a review. [[HIGHLIGHT]]He was busy so I couldn't get an appointment until three weeks later with the reassurance that I will get a text message if an opening comes up. Lo and behold I got a message three days later that a patient cancelled and if I could come in following week.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I went in for the exam and was met with couple of very friendly ladies at the front desk.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Dr Yun completed the examination and took time to answer all my questions and throughly explain the recommended treatment. I was back at the front desk and Lorraine went over the proposed treatment and cost. Since I had insurance she said a pre authorization request will be submitted so I will have an exact quote from insurance. I got a call from Lorraine three weeks later with the approval from insurance. She went over my copayment amount and what to expect from the procedure. My gum surgery was completed two weeks later. Removed stitches ten days later followed by another follow up. I am all healed up and very happy with the service Dr Yun provided. I don't generally consider Yelp a good place for healthcare reviews but want Dr. Yun to be recognized for his good work. I was referred by my general dentist since I've been having problems with gum recession. Another periodontist I saw for a consult before quoted me over $10,000 in procedures even with insurance. Dr. Yun took his time explaning what the most prominent issues were and had a conservative approach to treatment that did not require removing any of my teeth. Not sure when my next appointment would be - at this time I'm "stable" enough just to continue following up with my regular dentist - but the extra commute is worth it for me. Dr Yun is absolutely amazing. I was probably the most difficult patient ever (this surgery was terrifying to me and I pass out very easily) - and he was so kind and understanding. With each visit to his office, it didn't matter if I came in sad or nervous or scared, because I ended up leaving happy and smiling just because Dr Yun is so kind and has the sweetest personality. He and his office staff were all so sweet to me. They called after the surgery to check and see how I was doing, and were so incredibly patient with my multiple calls and texts with questions and asking to change my appointments to come in at an earlier time. I called in to make an appointment for implant consulting. The receptionist priced me for a consultant fee and then mentioned that the fee can be waved if I do proceed to implant procedure with the doctor. I asked her if the consulting fee can be covered with my insurance if I opt not to do implant procedure. She game me a general answer, 'check with your insurance company'. Like the review rate indicates, I've experienced better with other places. I heard many good things about Dr Yun, but the call that I made for an appointment already makes me feel distance from Dr. Yun. Now, I am moving on to other doctor. read more

Dr. Yun is an amazing periodontist. I've been to several dentists and specialists and most of them are just there to do their jobs as quickly as possible. They tend to inadequately inform you of why you need the procedures they want to perform and which option is best for you. They usually have an assistant perform x-rays on you, have you wait in a chair, come look at x-rays, tell you that you need a procedure, then leave and have another assistant come in and tell you to pick an option based on what you can afford. During my visit, I felt like Dr. Yun actually wanted use his knowledge and skills to help me, instead of just being there to make money. He was extremely informative, explained exactly what was wrong, and why I needed the procedures in a way that I could clearly understand. His assistants and receptionists were very pleasant and helpful as well, instead of the typical medical/dental receptionists who coldly tell you to fill out paperwork and wait until your name is called. During the actual procedure, he made sure I was comfortable every step of the way, made small talk help time pass, and showed me what he was doing and what the problems looked like under the gums. In addition, the prices at this clinic (and his other clinic in Diamond Bar) are extremely competitive. I had originally gone to a specialist up in Santa Barbara at Gentle Dental, who was the epitome of the usual traits found in oral care specialists I listed in the first paragraph. They had quoted my gum flap surgery at over $20,000. I was able to get the same procedure plus bone grafts from Dr. Yun for considerably less. I highly recommend Dr. Yun for anyone who is in need of a periodontist! I can't imagine going to anyone else from now on (although, hopefully I'll never have to see a periodontist ever again!) read more

As one of Dr. Yun's established patients, I was appalled and shocked when Dr. Yun agreed to extract all of my top teeth for the fee he contracted with Delta Dental, but then refused to accept the contracted Delta fee for a denture, stating it was not enough money. Although this payment was the amount he had negotiated with Delta, he insisted that he would not treat me because he wanted more money for the denture--in other words he was willing to leave me with no top teeth at all. I am truly horrified and now have to start all over with a new provider. read more

I had received an opinion from one periodontist suggesting I needed to have a tooth removed and replaced with an implant. Dr. Yun suggested we could save the tooth instead. and it's now been a number of years and we did save the tooth and the hassle and expense. I had a tooth which was cracked vertically all the way down to root. I tried hard to see whether that can be saved. Therefore, I had two general dentists look at it. The first dentist told it cannot be saved and he offered to do implantation himself. His explanation about the process did not make me convinced about getting the implant done by that general dentist. I considered that implant is very critical and it has to be done correctly and safely. I went to another general dentist for a second opinion. He also said it can't be saved and implant will be a good option. He referred me to Dr. Yun since he doesn't do implant himself as a general dentist. Dr. Yun's office was in Anaheim and I was living in Rancho Palos Verdes It's 40 miles driving from my home. I asked to the general dentist why he refers to a periodontist who is so far away from my home. He said he tried a few implant doctors in nearby area of his office in Torrance. However, he didn't get good feedback from his referred patients in terms of the quality of the implant and honesty of referred doctors. But from Dr. Yun, he got good feedbacks from the patients he referred to. He knew the quality of the implant since the referred patients many times come back to him to put crown after the implant. When I met Dr. Yun first time, I felt he was a comfortable person to talk to. He was a specialist in implant and gum surgery or treatment. He does not do general dentistry. His explanation about the process was clearly understandable and convincing. I went ahead to do lower right tooth implant from Dr. Yun, and then crown from my general dentist. After that I felt my implanted tooth is the same or even better than my original tooth. I have used the implanted tooth now one year, and my implanted tooth continue to be very good without any special maintenance other than just regular flossing and brushing. I got another tooth, this time upper left tooth, implanted by Dr. Yun completed a few months ago, and it is also very good. His fees were not the lowest for implant, but not too much expensive either. I think the charge was fair considering the quality of his work and most of all for the safety to my body. In my case my insurance paid some portion of it, which helped. I hope I don't have to add any more implant. However, the two teeth I got implanted by Dr. Yun are very solid and natural. Also, my coworker who I introduced to Dr. Yun was extremely happy about the result and experience with Dr. Yun in her implanted tooth. I feel his office staffs are also very kind. read more

I came in for a periodontal exam on 11/18/16. Lorraine, the dental assistant, told me that I'm eligible for 1 more oral exam for the year after checking my plan limit online with Metlife. She told me that the periodontal exam is covered at 100% by my dental insurance. I trusted that she knew what she was doing & accepted this service. After 3 months, I received a bill from Dr. Yun's office for the exam. The bill states that my dental insurance denied the claim because I had exceeded my limit of 2 exams per year. I called Lorraine at the office & she told me that the "Last Date of Service" shown on the website was 7/22/17, which led her to think that it was the only oral exam I received in 2016. Had she checked my service history more carefully, she would have seen that I already exceeded my oral exam limit for the year by 11/18/16. I told her to check my plan limit carefully before going through with the periodontal exam. I wouldn't have accepted this service had I known that I already exceeded my plan limit, but now I know I was misinformed by someone I trusted. In addition, Lorraine also sent my protected health information regarding this rejected claim to a stranger's email address and did a poor job at responding to my voice messages regarding this rejected claim. She is incompetent and is not to be trusted. Now the office is threatening to send my bill to the collection agency because I will not pay for another's mistake. read more

Dr. Yun is quite courteous, pleasant and professional, but their billing practice is a bit error-prone. Please make sure you check your statements. They double billed me for an exam service to both my insurance and also out of my pocket. read more
