I reached out to Masaki on May 13 regarding my concerns and attempted to resolve the issue privately. I never received a response. It has now been about a month, and despite giving plenty of time for a reply, I have been ignored. I did not immediately leave reviews or make public comments because I wanted to give him the opportunity to address the situation directly. Unfortunately, that opportunity was never taken. For $480, I expected a higher standard of work and customer service. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Masaki.

Appointments became rushed, started late, and lacked even basic professionalism. You're barely greeted when you walk in, and the overall tone makes it feel like you're inconveniencing them just by being there. I told them multiple times I had a head injury from a concussion and the lack of care was very concerning how abrasively they washed and handled my head. My most recent appointment was a complete failure. I asked for a warm, golden brown and came prepared with multiple reference photos. While the color was processing, I clearly flagged that it was pulling purple. That concern was dismissed, and the product was left on longer. The result was the darkest my hair has ever been, almost black with a cool, purple hue. The exact opposite of what I requested. The color job is all mismatched, the lower part of my hair significantly darker, the roots are sloppy and uneven. When I pointed this out, the response was defensive and dismissive. At one point, I was sarcastically asked if I wanted to "bleach it," which is an inappropriate and careless suggestion for already fine hair. It was mind blowing to have this handled so poorly and then be rushed through a cut that does not look anywhere close to the quality of the past cuts. I followed up requesting a refund, given that this will take months to correct and fade, and received no response for over 48 hours. It's not even about the money - it's about the severe lack of respect. What's most surprising is that this level of defensiveness and lack of accountability was unacceptable, especially after such a grave mistake. Instead of thoughtful adjustment and ownership, the response was dismissive in the moment and silent afterward. Mistakes happen. How they're handled is what defines a business. This was not handled well. NYC has no shortage of salons that can deliver both technical skill and professionalism. This is not one of them. I can't even get it fixed because it is so much shorter than I wanted. There are huge "texture" discrepancies all over my hair, the most obvious being in the back near my neck. There's also a strand of hair far longer than the entire length of my bob cut. I don't even understand how this happened. I'm so traumatized. I would never recommend this place and will never ever come back. I really had 1 chance to get a cut as a treat to myself, since I really don't have extra time to spare. And now I have to live with this until it grows out, definitely more than 6 more months. If I could give -1000 stars, I would. Please do yourself a favor and find a salon that can do a nice cut for long AND SHORT hair. WITHOUT A PERM TO MAKE IT ALL STRAIGHT FIRST. The skill level here is just so sub par. I was a bit disappointed to see that it looked nothing like the picture and it was fake rose petals which I thought was weird. I'll give them an A for effort though although it looked nothing like the picture. The massage was amazing. She did a really great job. Most of my massages are pretty rough but she did a great job with light to medium pressure. I really liked the glass of champagne and the chocolate truffles. The private soak was nice but I really enjoyed the sauna. It was definitely a great experience. Came out feeling revitalized. My boyfriend really enjoyed the massage and the amenities.

i dream of my hair genie- gabriel!! do you want all your hair wishes to come true? gabriel is the genie to grant it!! while he jokingly will tell you that his comb is not a magic wand-i beg to differ- he gave me a magazine style haircut that made me feel like a covergirl for the first time in my life. now i waited to write this review to see if it was a fluke but after 3 cuts he has confirmed his true wizard status! the first time i heard about gabriel, was when i was lucky to be backstage at a bon jovi concert. there was this girl there with hair that i was coveting. my boyfriend, an actor, knew her as a wardrobe stylist for the s@x in the city movie. he introduced us and i raved about her cut. she told me that had discovered gabriel about 2 years ago from other fashion stylists in the city. she said that although he was tall, dark and more than handsome, he was the greatest hairstylist that she had been to. the following week i phoned and made an appointment. . after his assistant sat me in his chair, gabriel appeared and my heart skipped a beat. this guy was gorgeous and a rocker!!!! we consulted about what i wanted- which i really didn't know since i was in a real hairstyle slump-gabriel had such great energy and put me at ease that i was confident in letting him do what he suggested. 45 minutes later i felt reborn. my new hair was edgy but not crazy, glam but doable by someone who doesn't have tremendous patience in the morning. however, for the first time since i was a kid, i now had bangs. i asked him how to cut them when they got too long and gabriel told me that whenever i needed them trimmed in between cuts, just call and he would do it for free. what a sweetheart!! true to his word, he has and he has never made me feel like it was an imposition. i love the time i spend with him (i envy his girlfriend) but even more i adore the way my hair looks. do yourself a favor and make your own wishes come true- go to gabriel. read more

On Friday October 13th, 2017, I had gone in to see, colorist Amanda Egusquiza. She had been doing my hair ,since Michael Murphy died, 5 years now. He did my hair beautifully for over 30 years. Amanda had taken my hair much blonder and I found it was starting to feel thinner and falling out. I discussed not doing the blonde bleach anymore and she disagreed , I was afraid to lose hair and she is the professional that should know what happens to blonde hair, she insisted for me Not , to go darker, I wanted an Ombre Look. But ,she disagreed, She promised blonde , would not ruin my hair. She left the color in and I kept telling her that I was ready and she kept doing the other clients hair and did not pay attention, at this point it must have been almost 1 hour the color was in. I had a Pit in my stomach,she went to wash my color out and kept massaging my Crown and i asked what's going on? she brushed , My hair fell out in Globs! She ruined my hair! She Fried my hair and thinned it. It fell out and she still Not seed how damaged may hair was. She, Never once apologized and took responsibility for the damage. The salon did not handle this well at all. I, Have spent Thousands on repair and it is now 2019. My hair is still NOT grown out enough, It will Never be the same either. I live further out and I am in the Beauty Business and had to start work with a Celebrity Dermatologist this way in Jan of 2018. Imagine how you would feel !!!!! I have been flying in from out of state specifically to get my hair cut by Gabriel Saba. Gabriel is truly brilliant, and he doesn't simply give you just a haircut, he actually shapes your hair and the way it falls, with layering, which many other stylists at other salons do not know how to do. Gabriel has never rushed anything and has always taken the time to understand what I want and create exactly that. While the hair always looks good right after he cuts it, the brilliance with which he has layered and shaped the hair more fully emerges after you wash your hair and wear it in your regular style. Gabriel pays attention to detail and his layering is thoroughly and intricately done with focus. At times after inspecting my hair cut by Gabriel, I have said that the haircut he has done is akin to an architectural masterpiece. In addition, because Gabriel actually shapes the hair instead of simply doing a trim, it grows out very well and retains its shape and layers for many months. Whenever it is not convenient for me to travel to NY, I get my hair cut by local salons that do dry cuts, but every single time after washing and styling my hair that has been cut by other stylists at supposedly good salons, it is evident that they haven't been able to capture even a fraction of Gabriel's skill in layering and shaping. The Sahag salon always has professional and polite customer service, and it is simply lovely to deal with Gabriel who is incredibly kind and professional and knows how to communicate with his clients. read more

My friends now make fun of me bc I won't go to a restaurant, doctor or cleaners without first checking out yelp! I have learned that there always a few negative reviews for a place but I have kind of figured out how to weigh those against the positive ones. Lately, I have felt frumpy. I don't know if it is bc of this endless winter or bc I am not looking my best. Last week, when I got on a crowded bus someone got up and offered me their seat. Are you kidding?? I'm not that old. I was so upset that when I got home, I ordered in from The Nuaa and proceeded to research a new hair dresser on yelp. I came upon John Sahag Workshop and read the reviews. I then went on his website and looked through the stylists. I decided on Gabriel bc he had fabulous pictures of clients and I figured I was in need of an archangel! I am happy to report that I will have to stand on the bus from now on!! He turned the clock back for me without making me look like I was trying to be a millennial. Actually, he didn't cut it much shorter :)) but he cut into it. I don't want to say it is layered but it has what he calls "movement" now. Gabriel cost me more than I am used to paying but I spoke to his client after me, who complimented me and she said that it grows out so well that you actually come less times a year. I really treasure others reviews here on yelp. That's what gave me the incentive to start posting my own reviews. I don't go anywhere now before i check it out on yelp first! Which leads me to writing about my new haircutter. After doing my homework here and checking out their website I decided on John Sahag. When I called the receptionist was really nice as I explained the kind of cut I was looking for. She booked me with Gabriel for a consultation the next day. It is such a pretty place and upon entering the young ladies at the desk couldn't make me feel more welcomed. Gabriel greeted me at his chair and we discussed what I had in mind. With kindness he advised me that I needed to let my hair grow out more since it had really been hacked away at another salon. 4 weeks later I went back and Gabriel said I still needed a couple of more weeks or that I wouldn't be happy with the cut. Really? A bit dejected I agreed. 2 weeks later I found myself grinning from ear to ear while my new cut was being blow dryed. I meet my sisters for dinner that night and the both called during our happy hour to make their appointments with him. 3 months later i love my hair now more than ever and my 2 sisters and 3 daughters are all going to gabriel now. read more

Forgive Me Gabriel!! I cheated on you! Disaster Followed! I wish I could say that I was drunk or really depressed but I cheated on Gabriel when I was out of town. I think it was the air in L.A. that got to me- but I cheated. I went to one of those new hot salons and when I got back to the hotel room my husband asked if I had gotten caught in the Santa Anna Winds. HA HA. I figured that when I got back to NY and got a woman's point of view it would be fine. I went to see my best friend whom I thought would comfort me and tell me it wasn't that bad. Wrong!! She asked why I would knowingly venture from perfection and that maybe Gabriel could fix it. Fix it? I told her there was no way I was going to let him see me until it grew out. After 10 days of misery, I finally gave in and called. I told the receptionist of my drama. She assured me not to be embarrassed and that they refer to Gabriel as "The Cleaner" because he salvages horrible cuts all the time. HAIRCUT NIGHTMARE ( I actually said this in the salon). Gabriel ruined my long, curly hair. To fix a too short top- he made the sides shorter than the top And as the hair grows now I have no curl only wavy frizz. The cut ages my terribly. This is one of the worse cuts I ever had. My hair is a mess. I look dreadful, there are large chunks cut out of the sides and it is not improving as it grows out . It is also cut in a way, in this horrible shape, that it is going to take a long time to grow out to look decent . As I said a haircut nightmare. I am so upset by the way I look that I have actually cancelled social plans I would suggest watching a few results of Gabriel's 'work' in the salon before you allow him near your hair. Buyer beware. I had the greatest experience at the John Sahag Workshop. My stylist was Johnny and he did an amazing job. I wanted to have something fun but not too crazy and he did an outstanding cut on me. I turn 42 in a few month and he literally took years off my face with the cut he gave me. He is wonderful with the way he treats you and respects your wishes and ideas. He will do a consultation with you,prior to cutting your hair and will explain exactly what his method of cutting is and what will look best on you, the shape of your face etc. He is patient and for his young age extremely experienced and professional. I am in LOVE with my hair and I get compliments all the time. He made me look young and beautiful and gave me a new confidence. I get compliments from guys 10 years younger than me and it feels great! I have never met anyone who is so passionate about their work . He listens to you and the result will be exactly what you've expected and more! I recommend Johnny to everyone!!! You won't be disappointed! read more

Gabriel Cuts Straight to the Point!! No fluff here! ok- so every time I research a hairdresser to go to on this site i read blah, blah, blah stuff- do I care that he knows how to make me feel desirable for the hour I'm with him or that she understands my personality after only knowing me for 4 minutes-that's why I go to psychics darling!! So here I entertain myself every weekend by reading the stuff hairdressers have fed to their clients but hey i just want a great flattering haircut for under a million dollars- I end up spending my hard earned but unsaved $200 on Gabriel at the Workshop (sounds like a place for santa's elves) because his few reviews sound sincere and real. Guess what? They were right-I walked away liking him and loving my hair more than I have since I was in pigtails! Talented, gracious and amazing at what he does is all I need to say. read more

Maybe I had too high expectations after reading soo many wonderful reviews of her and her salon. She seemed stuck up(I get it you work w/ models during fashion week woohoo) and the salon environment wasn't exactly relaxing (there was a lot of bickering going on). I don't think the cut is completely TERRIBLE (its pretty bad though...I look like a mushroom!) and especially after paying that much for a haricut I expected something better. I also didn't like the dry cut technique, where she washes your hair, straightens it and then cuts it. You leave the salon with super uber straight hair which on me looked too flat and like I hadn't washed my hair in a few days! So maybe its a preference thing...... Aside "Its all about me" Anecdote: I met up with a few of my friends after getting my haircut and 2 of them didn't realize I had gotten one. The third one remembered me mentioning my appointment and was like hey you were going to get a haircut, saw my hair, and commented "yea its difficult to find a good hair salon in the city" :-( (ususally I get tons of compliments on my hair pre and post haircut). Talk about crushing your self esteem eh! I will most definitely not be visiting again..can't wait for my hair to grow out and getting a proper cut somewhere else. Atleast I gave it a shot!

He can do very edgy cuts or your more standard, long cuts and they all come out beautiful! I started going to Brad when I lived in California. After having him cut my hair once, I knew I never wanted to go to another hairstylist again -- I'm not exaggerating. I often feel like I leave even the best salons feeling "meh" about my haircut. Perhaps this is my fault for not explaining what I wanted. Perhaps I never really knew what I wanted. That is not the case after going to Brad. He managed to just "get it". I always end up with a haircut that is easy to manage and shaped well for my face. After leaving the salon, I regularly receive compliments from people I don't know, which you know is a good sign. I ended up moving to NYC many years ago, which meant I would have to find another hairstylist. Well, after a couple pricey, mediocre haircuts at high-end salons, I decided I would just wait until I planned trips back to CA to see family to get my hair cut. This tested my patience, but was ultimately worth it to know I would leave the salon happy. Then Brad moved to NYC and all of the painful months of waiting for a good haircut were over.
