He is very bad doctor. His answers to my questions were "I don't know. I can refer you to lymph nodes biopsy doctor." I asked him about some abnormal CBC blood test results( ordered by other doctor). He doesn't know. What does he really know? I went to see him and got nothing useful information. How can he charge people as ENT specialist? AI should replace these type of doctors!!! read more

2 years ago I saw Dr Sun with c/o a lump on my cheek, he barely examined me and said it was nothing and it would resolve spontaneously. 6 months later I went back with pain and lumps on my neck, again he was very casual and the appointment lasted 5 min max. Casually mentioned he could refer me to a specialist and I could apply warm compress and massage it. Long story short, I had cancer and went to a life changing period. Drs are not gods, we all make mistakes, I'm not here because of that, I'm writing this bc of the way he made me feel (ignored, not worth of his time) I'll never forget. Went to see this doc on 2021 and like what others have mentioned. Went in for a 'chat' and kept telling Dr, I have vertigo issues but nothing was being done or diagnose at all. Dr look at me and said there's nothing wrong because of course i didn't have an episode when i was there. Left the clinic and got billed for $60 just like that! His notes are lousy and poor that when he gave me my diagnosis I told my Primary care doctor and he said it's not in his notes, then I called again and told the doctor can you put in the notes what you diagnosed me with , he said yes then the notes came back as " patients states she has __" wtf?! What are you talking about you said this was my diagnosis these aren't my words! It's caused so many problems, I've decided to find a new ENT. The prescription that he gave me was something I could get over the counter and he stated " I'm going to get you well" really with Mucinex? I'm here because stuff like that isn't working for me! While Dr Sun is personable and appears to be experienced, his front staff is terrible. They are inefficient and unhelpful. Despite having 5-6 staff members, they do not actually do what they should be doing to support Dr. Sun such as checking patients in or out with setting up appointments or providing the documentation that is needed upon request. Instead, they make up reasons why they can't do it while you're waiting right in front of them. When I pressed her further for the reason why, she finally admitted that it was due to her just being busy claiming and would get to it in a few days. read more

Despite all the negative reviews on yelp about Dr. John Sun, I have to say...both my parents on ALL different occasions had great experiences. There was not once that we had less than professional and timely care. My dad had seen Dr. John Sun several years ago for a sinus problem which he had remedied. It was not until March of 2022 that my mom was seen at Hoag ER for an abscess in the neck. We didn't know how severe and life threatening it was until the CT Scan results came out. The ER doctor contacted Dr. John Sun to come into the ER to assess. We were told by our ER doctor that my mom will most likely need surgery or stay overnight for observations. When I heard the ENT doctor was Dr. John Sun, I was very comforted and had told my mom that she was in good hands. Dr. John Sun confirmed the need for surgery and my mom went in to get an emergency surgery to remove the abscess which had we stalled for more time, it could've turned for the worse...sepsis. After the surgery, Dr. John Sun gave us an update on my mom's condition. He was compassionate and thorough and very professional. Dr. John Sun really cares about his patients. We were surprised that he had visited my mom in the hospital on a weekend...Saturday to be specific. He was off, but still dropped by to make sure we were all doing well and to answer any questions that we may have for him. He didn't have to do that...he could've waited till we were out of the hospital to see us at his office, but he made the time and effort. Thank you!!! Now...4 months later, my dad had an ultrasound done on a lump in the neck area. Radiologist called and said that it was an urgent matter and we need to get a follow-up appointments ASAP for the mass that they found to determine what kind of cancer. The office processed the referral quickly, had the biopsy done within a week. Now we are just waiting for the pathology report. His office staff, Itzel who we've been talking to through all this has been on top of things. She's been scheduling and reaching out to us with appointment changes since we are awaiting our pathology report. She reassured us that once they receive the report, they can also work us in since our situation is urgent. I know that it's hard to please everyone...but with social media nowadays, it's easy to tarnish good businesses and people when patrons and patients don't get their way. There are exceptions. I do know that, Dr. John Sun is not what some of these yelpers who have given him bad reviews to make him out to be the bad and less desirable doctor for your ENT needs, he's a great doctor and he lack the credibility that he deserves. I know after reading all the bad reviews, people are hesitant to be referred to him, but he's definitely worth your time. If you don't have much to worry about, then your visit will naturally take less time, which should be a good thing, but he will answer all your concerns and questions though and get you on your way, because he does have other patients that are waiting to see him and who appreciates his time and efforts. read more

We were over 45 minutes late on a rainy day, but Dr John Sun saw us anyway. My son was scared of the cauterization procedure, but Dr Sun relaxed him, applied anesthetic solution to his nose, and cauterized his nose to stop his severe nose bleeds. We found Dr Sun to be very professional, and caring. He understood my son's fear, and calmed him so he could do an uncomfortable procedure. I'm always surprised at the differences between positive and negative reviews. I don't know what happens with those patients who think a doctor didn't do anything right, but it is hard to imagine they are talking about the same doctor. "Don't go there!", says one reviewer, but I find his point-of-view completely different from the experience we had. Dr John Sun is a great doctor. We highly recommend him! Went in for an appointment today to see Dr Sun for a possible ear infection due to water trapped behind some ear wax buildup. I was lucky that someone had cancelled while I was making the appointment so I was able to see Dr Sun the same day otherwise the following day was available which was still reasonable. I planned on having my ears cleaned while I was there as they have the latest suction equipment/ device and the process was extremely quick and effortless to handle the task. I arrived, filled out the paperwork, and was in and out promptly. Dr Sun was friendly and professional - no issues. read more

I came in to get my ears cleaned and the doctor hardly cleaned it. I was charged with a co pay for a crappy experience. On top of that, the management here are incompetent. They forgot to take my driver's license out of the scanning machine and calls me an hour later saying "we found your ID..." ... No you didn't "find" it. You forgot to do your job. Not only that was a problem of having to drive back for it, BUT they even sent my prescription to the wrong pharmacy. How hard could it be to look at a patient's file and send the prescription to the written address (with the cross streets provided)? ... incompetent workers and the worst part is, my ears are not cleaned. Dr. Sun fraudulently documented that he removed ear wax from my ears when this service absolutely did not happen. When I called to notify his office of this fraudulent claim, I was told that I may not have know that he provided the service and that they could simply waive the charge if I felt that "it was a big deal." I am a veteran and had ear wax removed from my ears before at the VA, therefore I am positive that I would know if the service was provided. My experience with Dr. Sun and his staff was absolutely unacceptable and raises concerns as to how many other people they have stolen money from. I was having some issues with my sinuses and ear lately. I have been sick for most of September and beginning of November, and my ear started to feel as if there was fluid in there that just wouldn't clear up. My hearing was muffled most of the time. Plus I was feeling lethargic and dizzy. So I decided to see an ENT specialist, and made an appointment with Dr. John Sun last Thursday after hearing great things about him. It turned out, there was wax deep inside the ear which had to be professionally removed by an ENT. Dr. Sun explained to me that this is commonly found with people who have oily skin. I was kind of nervous to start the procedure because the wax was so deep but he was gentle in removing it and maneuvered expertly so that I did not feel any pain or discomfort at all! He also checked my sinuses as well, and found that everything was good. All in all, my experience with Dr. Sun was fantastic! From here on out, I will be coming to him to evaluate my sinuses when they are congested and to deal with any ear problems in the future. Dr. Sun was was the primary surgeon for my thyroidectomy four months ago. I was a bit nervous seeing the negative comments and came close to looking for another doctor. I have a very different experience, however. I went in for the consultation with trepidation given the reviews and it was my first surgery ever. He explained what to expect and answered all my questions. The day of surgery, he showed up at the pre-op, gave me some pep talk which made me feel better. I had an issue a couple of days post-surgery and he returned my call within 20 minutes to let me know that what I was experiencing was part of the healing. I am very happy with the care that Dr. Sun provided. I would go back to see him should I have any ENT issues in the future. read more

I never got more than 2-3 minutes with him. I was later diagnosed with a disease by a Neurologist. She knew what was wrong in 5 minutes with me. Horrible bedside manner. We were referred to this pediatric ENT by our primary doctor. Our son had ear tubes when he was 18 months with this office - now that he is five he was recommended to see an ENT again for possible ear tubes and removal of his adenoids. This office is not really set up for young children or what I would consider pediatrics. Dr. Sun is nice but very busy - maybe only spending 5-10 minutes with you. However, the surgery scheduling is a nightmare with this office as is the wait time for your appointment. Definitely dropped the ball and didn't process our request with our insurance in a timely manner. It should take 2-3 business days. Now it's been 2 1/2 weeks and counting. I have to keep CALLING the office to "see" if they can find a time to schedule my son. This last phone call after waiting until the following week - she was quite annoyed with me after I stated that we've been waiting for over two weeks and if the insurance has gone through why didn't they call us to schedule an appointment? Even after she said "maybe next week" still no definitive appointment. I couldn't quite understand why an appointment couldn't be made and if a cancellation opens then to call us. I'm a pretty patient person but when I have to keep after someone and it impact's my son's health; then it's time to reconsider to go to another doctor. I normally don't write reviews but for this case and reading other negative reviews regarding children; I felt that people should at least be informed. Meanwhile my son has a double ear infection and is on more antibiotics. This isn't the office's issue, or the ENT, however, he has had fluid in his ears since the start of 2016 (it's now May) which is causing hearing loss. He can't afford for the office to drop the ball scheduling an appointment. My sister, oddly enough, was also referred to this office before I was. She has a young son, 18 months, who has chronic sinus and ear infections. After waiting for two hours, the doctor only spent 5 minutes to tell her to use flonase. No other explanation, no consultation - she was very unhappy and is going to get a second opinion. Again, if you have young children I don't recommend this office. If you have an HMO; request your doctor to refer you to another office. We ended up switching to another ENT who stated that an appointment to schedule surgery with the insurance shouldn't take more than 2-3 business days especially with a young child. read more

My son was tongue tied which made breastfeeding really difficult so we had Dr.Sun release the restriction. Once the procedure was done I asked him if there was anything we had to do or just leave it. He said it was fine just leave it alone and it will heal on its on. But he missed that once it heals without proper tongue exercises it could reattach !!!!!!!!!!! Got a call from my wife last week after her appointment with Dr. Sun for my daughter with Down syndrome. She was in tears because he scoped my 7 month old daughters nose and made her bleed, without any warning. It's commonly known people with DS has a low nasal bridge and a smaller passageway, and his insensitively made for an extremely unpleasant visit. He was quick to diagnose to remove her adnoids and tonsils even being so young. We're refusing to take this at face value and we're getting a second opinion. This Dr. was so unpleasant. I highly recommend Dr. Paul Sun and his whole office staff. I came to Dr. Sun with an odd growth on my tongue. He took one look and knew it was not an infection as two dentists had told me. He biopsied the growth and it came back as cancerous. I honestly don't understand why there are so many bad reviews for him... I went to his Irvine location with the issue of having constant nosebleeds ever since I was 9. He decided to cauterized my nose. It helped but I was still having light nosebleeds, so I decided to come back to do it again. Even though the consultations with him were short, he still solved my problems. 12 years of nosebleeds solved within 5-10 minutes. If anything, that should be a plus. read more

I had the same experience with Dr. Sun as a few others have. Not sure why some have a great experience and others don't but just know it's a roll of the dice. My son has been suffering from sinus issues for 2 years and we were pretty certain it wasn't allergies because we have moved a few times in that time. His pediatrician referred us to Dr. Sun after a yearly exam where he was suspicious that my son may have a deviated septum that was causing the sinuses. At the appointment, Dr. Sun came in asked me what the issue was while he examined my son's nose. He said it wasn't a deviated septum and then that was it. He didn't order any tests, prescribe any meds, or ask him to come back for a follow-up. I felt like we were imposing on his lunch break and he had somewhere better to be. Not once did he want to know how long he had been suffering, what else we had tried, was there any relief from meds, did he have any other symptoms. He just really had no interest in helping us. I recently visited Dr. John Sun at his Irvine location. Dr. Sun is truly an excellent doctor. He is very patient, knowledgeable, kind and understanding and took the time to listen to all of my concerns. He even completed a procedure that I had asked for the very same day instead of making me come back for another office visit. After I left the office I realized there were a couple more concerns/questions that I had forgotten to ask and I called the office and spoke to the front desk (another thing that I pay important attention to is the front desk staff at any Dr's office I go to). Dr. Sun called me back personally within minutes, instead of having the front desk relay his message regarding my concerns. Dr. Sun's staff is also great. I have been mostly in communication with Marisela who has been especially helpful to me. She is kind, quick, and always on top of things. Dr, Sun deosnt spend much time with his pateince. But boy can he operate!! He removed a large polyp from off my vocal cords last week. The surgery was quick, painless and I can finally swallow food again, and my voice is totally come back!! I am EXREMELY pleased so far with his work, and would recommend him to everyone with any ear nose or throat problems!! He has cured my problem and after my follow up on the 2nd, I will know the biopsy results. Where he lacks in bedside manner (as most surgeons do.) he makes up for it in the operating room.
