But they got done for our 1 bedroom within the 2 hour limit perfectly for the awesome 2 hour price. They were fast very friendly and professional. Gave them drinks and tipped all workers good because the job well done. They actually arrived a little earlier and called and asked first if it was ok or to wait. Only thing happened was one of my single sofa chair got bent in the back top which was in newer condition, but didn't notice til later. But they had a annoying set of tight windy stairs so can't be 100% perfect. They're fast, and mostly friendly........ but not exactly professional. I had explicitly instructed several pieces of furniture be dismantled and wrapped, neither was done during my move...in fact, they didn't use ANY of their tools they had available (dollies, furniture pads, pallet wrap, packing paper, etc) Instead, they insisted on moving my furniture fully assembled and unprotected, and as such caused damage not only to my furniture, leaving several if not all of my items dented, marred, or cracked, but also caused over $3.5K in damages to my brand new home itself which was otherwise in pristine condition before their arrival. There are dents in my walls and ceilings now, paint missing from hand rails on the stairs, a damaged front door frame and screen door, a cracked and dented dresser, marred and dented entertainment center, missing parts to my music production desk, electronics damaged and mishandled, several items spilled onto the floor, dark black stains left in my BRAND new carpet of the new home (they don't use protective shoe covers) Not only has almost all of my furniture been damaged, several of my electronics are now non-functioning, several dishes are broken, a few collectables are irreparably damaged, a BRAND new $2000 desk is missing parts they cant seem to find and have offered no help in replacing (after i specifically told them it was one of the items they needed to be extra careful with and wrapped for safety) On top of that, two of the three individuals got into an argument in my new home and started cursing at eachother. One of the three had to step in and say "if there's an issue communicate that? don't just jump straight to "FUCK YOU!"" I was told at the beginning of the move that they had all the tools necessary to get the job done right... and indeed they did....i saw them on the truck...they made the CHOICE themselves NOT to use them, stating things would be faster. Frankly I didnt care about fast, I wanted my belongings and my home left in the same condition they had started...PERIOD!! It would have been FAR cheaper to pay them for the extra time moving and being careful than it would be to have to replace or repair items they have damaged. It became apparent that one of the members (arranging items in the truck) was pushing the others to move faster, stating he had to be at the airport to pick up family that night at 8pm. Instead of doing a shit job protecting my belongings and making your needs #1, maybe call a different person out to complete the job if you have needs or deadlines that conflict. But DON'T expect the customer to take the brunt of your bad attitude, poor scheduling of conflicts, arguments,and inability to listen to and abide by customer needs and desires I would not, and will not, recommend these people to ANYONE that cares about their belongings or home in any way. I've no choice but to give 5 stars. JVA was recommended by our new landlords, based on their experience. Both the estimator and the moving crew appeared on time, or slightly before. They worked quickly and efficiently, and were careful of our goods and the building. Everyone was polite, professional, and conservative in appearance. Our move was a simple one. We were moving a few blocks, and had a one-month overlap in leases. We moved most items ourselves, using movers for furniture and heavy items. Their rate is a very reasonable $150/hr for three men and the truck. We were charged a total of $375, including 1/2 hour for travel time. We were offered the state-required binding estimate, but the hourly rate made more sense for our situation. I wish that I had SOME complaint or suggestion, to not sound like a company shill, but I can't. I give them "two thumbs up"! To clarify their status, which puzzled me, I was told that JVA Movers is a for-profit enterprise that supports JVA, which has programs for persons with chemical dependencies. read more

I moved December 2023. The three movers that came were fast and friendly, but they came quite a bit earlier than I had booked. I had a specific time to move in, so I had to call and try to arrange an earlier move in time. They seemed to be careful with my furnishings, but as they were unloading, I noticed major damage to my antique china cabinet and dresser. They took cell photos and said the agent (Bernard) would be in touch. I paid for the move. As I began to arrange my furniture I noticed other pieces were damaged. I phoned Bernard and he came out two days later. He apologized and said he would be in touch after he spoke to the Insurance Company. After waiting 3 weeks I called Bernard again. He told me that he "would get back to me". This did not happen. I called every couple of weeks and left messages from the end of January to the end of March. He never returned any of my calls! I could not understand why, if John Volken Academy Movers is insured and bonded, they would totally ignore my concerns. I was really disappointed with their treatment. It seems these movers have a hit or miss business practice. They are really excellent or they just don't care. I am left dealing with the damages. It was great experience overall and I highly recommend this company to anyone who's planning a moving. First of all, it was very reasonable price which was $80 per hour for two workers and they didn't even charge extra for my small upright piano! I have called other places too and one place quoted $300 extra for just my piano which was ridiculous and also said they'll need to send 3 men as 2 men cannot move the piano safely. But this company had no problem sending me just 2 men and they actually did a great job moving my piano and other heavy furniture with lightning speed! They also showed up very on time and were very accommodating to all my difficult requests and very professional and efficient. I have moved many times in the past and each time I had all kinds of bad experiences with movers which added far more stresses when it was already stressful to plan movings, but this time these guys made it so much easier and stress free!
