He's overbearing, like a lot of old-school male dentists are. Kind of a d-ck. . . . Actually, more than kind of. I gutted it out to complete my one goal with him, but I was reluctant to go back for necessary "after care." He literally said to me "Don't give me that smile," when it was obvious I was uncomfortable countering his confrontational demeanor. That is outrageously belittling. For a guy who thinks he's on the right side of everything, he struck me as condescending, gruff, demeaning and sexist. I truly had to brace myself to deal with him. That's bad. read more

Stop and look no further! Dr. Schulz is bar-none, the best dentist! I chipped my front tooth on a Sunday (an OMG, you've got to be kidding moment), and guess what? No dentist as my previous dentist retired. So I Yelped dentist, in my area, and after seeing his great reviews, I said, give him a shot. So first thing on Monday, I called for an appt; but of course, he was booked. So I told the MOST WONDERFUL receptionist, pls call me if a cancellation! She called me back a few hours later and said, can you come by as we had a canceled appt...I said, hell yes... Long story short...he was not only a wonderful person but repaired my tooth BETTER than what it looked like (it was crooked and overlapped the other front tooth)! Dr. Schulz is an excellent dentist. He was able to repair the crown on.my very old implant and save it. He takes utmost care with my teeth. The hygienists are careful and and get my teeth very clean plus give hints on improvement in tooth care. The X-rayers were thorough and patient with me. The office staff are very helpful and don't let you get lost between the two office sections when your're a new patient. They are wonderful! read more

I have been going to Dr. Schulz so long I don't remember any other dentist before him. Now my husband and my children travel with me from the East Bay to San Francisco to see Dr Schulz and his team for all of our dental needs. He is caring, professional, and we see him as a good friend as well as our doctor. They now have protocols in place to make the environment safe due to the Covid-19 and I felt very comfortable at my appointment today. Just had a very good experience at the dentist. My hygienist is amazing. Joyce does a wonderful job. She has helped me get my habits cleaned up & my teeth got an A- today. This was surprising especially because the Covid put my cleaning at 10 months instead of the usual 6 months. I've been to a lot of dentists. Unless you have serious problems, the most important part of a dentist's office is the hygienist. This is the person you see most often. Dr. Schultz' hygienists are super professional. I have learned a lot about taking care of my teeth from them, and as a result of their cleaning my gums have improved considerably. Dr. Schultz is a bit expensive, but very competent. He also does not push expensive procedures you don't need. I definitely recommend the office. read more

I used to go to Dr. Schulz, but I had to stop because he became just too expensive. He charged me $3k for root scaling and was constantly treating me like a 5 year old talking down to me for not taking better care of my teeth when I was doing everything he told me to. I should have known something was up when he couldn't keep a hygenist for more than a few months or that when he partnered up with another dentist they'd only stay with him for maybe a year. Add to all this that when I had dental insurance he'd charge more so that I ended up paying the same. read more

Poor dental service in the John W. Schulz dental office.The old dental chair was broken before the dental procedure. During the dental procedure, the dentist was chatting with his old dental assistant regarding buying houses. He was unable to finish the dental procedure and he needed to continue the dental procedure until he came back from his personal vacation. Severe pain after the dental procedure. They do their best to fit you in-my husband actually had an emergency when Dr. Schulz was away on vacation in Europe and they managed to contact him and help him get it taken care of until his return! I was recommended to see Dr. Schulz by a friend, and sure thing my experience was nothing less than awesome! The office is conveniently located in a medical building in a central area, and is easily accessible by car or by public transportation. I was able to book an appointment on a convenient day, specially that Dr. Schulz sees patients on Saturdays too! The system sends you text and email reminders after you confirm the appointment. One my first appointment I received a full dental evaluation, and Dr. Schulz explained his treatment recommendations while getting input from me given my treatment history and preferences. I was also introduced a new dental hygiene technique which I have been practicing daily and which started to make a difference on my gums health. Also, the office staff were all professional and courteous yet friendly and relatable. I highly recommend Dr. Schulz office for your next treatment. If you're looking for that old fashioned, but up-to-date, professional, skilled dentist, check out Dr. Schultz. My last dentist, with whom I had a 20 year relationship, was good, but his dental hygienist, May, was much better. When she no longer worked at former dentist office, I followed her and decided to switch to Dr. Schultz, even though his Stonestown location is far less convenient for me. The office is nothing fancy and you won't get some of the bells and whistles a more modern dental practice might offer, like earphones and music, but Dr. Schultz and his staff are wonderful, caring, professional, and he's just a darn good dentist. Dr. Schultz also does cosmetic dentistry and I suspect his fees for those services are way below what a Union Square dentist would charge. He evened out my two front teeth which were slightly chipped and did a fantastic job. He was very honest with me when I approached him about further cosmetic dentistry. Although he could have up-sold me, he did not. He also performed some very successful gum surgery. I could have gone to a gum guy for the procedure, but I wanted Dr. Schultz to do it because I had so much faith in him. Lynn, the practice manager, is great as well. I think she's been with Dr. Schultz forever and it's obvious she's the glue that holds the office together. Dr. Schultz is all business and knows his business, and underneath a sort of gruff and professional exterior, he's a hell of a nice guy and is the Nordstrom of dentists. read more

I am glad that so many people have had great experiences....he made up for it with me as a patient. Seriously, I have had a hole in my mouth since May 31st. My dental insurance was discontinuing, so I went in to get my teeth cleaned. He found cavities and I had them filled. The gums on the inside of my mouth next to where he did a filling starting really hurting. I had just gotten married and was relocating with two of my boys. The affected area turned black (I found out later that the tissue was dying from him giving me an improper injection of novocaine). The dead tissue turned into a hole and I was not able to move as planned, due to the horrible pain I was experiencing. Upon going back to see Dr. Schulz, he said it would heal in four weeks (that was June 8th). I had to pay an additional seven days rent and was not able to get everything together for the movers due to the constant pain I was in, so I was forced to make two long distance trips to move the rest. My mouth bothered me at the new location and I paid $200.00 for a dentist to look at it. He prescribed an antibiotic and more pain medication (the pain was going up my jaw bone to my ear.) It got better for a while, but flared up again. Turned out that a piece of my jaw bone had died broken off under my gums...that cost me $1,200. It was so gross. Coincidence that it was in the spot he worked on? I think not. I let Dr. Schulz know of my prognosis. He requested a copy of the bill three weeks ago and I have not heard from him since. If you want to lose weight, go and see him....you will be amazed. read more
