Probably the best hardware store I have been to ever. The staff are extremely helpful. I won't go anywhere else in the area

I absolutely LOVE this store! Everyone KNOWS hardware supplies, tools, and HOW to do things right. The sales help will spend a lot of time with me, and seem genuinely interested in helping me find soljutions to my projects. They don't try to sell you the most expensive thing ...but they honestly want you to purchase the correct items you need. The cashiers always smile, and there is always plenty of help on the floor. the store is small...which is exactly why I love going there, instead of the Lowes or Home Depot only 1 mile away. I cannot say enough good things about this place...I am there at least once a week, and if i am working on a big project, in there daily. Only one bad thing....I wish the women worked on the floor... not just as cashiers. That is a little too old fashioned for me. This is definitely a great place for customer service. I could walk to another place in Glenview, but I'd rather drive to Weiss Ace Hardware, have a selection and actually talk to someone who knows and cares. From bee poison, keys, somebody will point you in the right direction. read more

Not exactly the biggest hardware store, but they use their space wisely and have a good stock and variety of items. But most importantly, they have a great staff - service is always accessible and friendly. I have been going here for years and will be for many more years to come! read more

One of the screws on my license plate broke off. Bill, at Ace Hardware, spent about a half hour with me in the parking lot, trying to remove the old screw and finding the correct replacement for the rusting one that was holding everything together. All for a couple of screws that cost $2.00! One more thing that makes Ace Hardware so outstanding and something all Glenview residents should be grateful for. read more

I've been meaning to comment on this hardware store for some time now. Finally, now is the time! My comment: this is a great store. Fine selection of hardware-store-like products and much, much more. Also: the service here is just outstanding. They go way beyond what you probably normally expect from a retail establishment - which, IMHO, is about next to nothing. Even for the smallest purchase - like a couple screws and anchors - they make you feel like their best customer. Just excellent service! This is my go-to hardware store. I enjoy shopping here and the staff is very knowledgeable compared to Home Depot. The staff never runs away or pretends not to see you when you need assistance. The Ace private label brand is usually really good quality and in some instances better than the leading brand. I really like the Glenview location, but I can only give 2 stars due to the merchandising errors. After putting items in my cart, waiting in line to check out, and then realizing getting overcharged at register. When I tell the cashier, she puts the transaction on hold while we walk around the store looking for the items I picked off the shelves and the price tags under them. Only to find out that all the stock was in the wrong spot not 1 or 2 items. And that happens for every item I bought and even an item next to the register which had a sign for $2.00 but rang up for $3.00. As a regular customer I don't like disputing prices at the register, as you can imagine it's embarrassing, and then to walk around the store to find that the staff made stocking mistakes, and then the cashier blames you for not reading a sign that was placed in the wrong place. Therefore, you either get overcharged or return the items and time wasted is never compensated. I think I will only shop in person when I can't get things online from now on. read more

Moving from a condo in the city to a home in the suburbs means that you will have a major need for yard appliances. This ACE was my first stop in what will probably be an endless amount of shopping for yard stuff. I had zero idea what I would need, but their staff was helpful and walked me through a lot of the basics. I have come back here twice since then and I have a feeling this will be my go to place. They have a great selection of anything you would need for your home and their prices are on par with Home Depot or any of the big retailers. They even have better list prices for their grills than ABT, although I didn't try to negotiate like I know you need to with ABT. Overall this is a really solid spot. read more

Geez, I've been going to this Ace since I first moved into the neighborhood in 1986! The store has plenty of knowledgeable help. How many times have I told my wife "We're going to the Ace!" They mysteriously seem to have whatever it is that we need, and I much prefer their personal service over the big box stores. Management is loyal to their staff - they have to be, because it's been the same staff it seems like forever! And that loyalty is worth something to me too. I really appreciate the people that work in this store. I just learned that they did electrical repair when my small vacuum stopped working. I went into a vacuum repair store but they told me that it would be more to fix it than the unit was worth. I went to Ace to check out some replacements and a woman there told me they did repairs. I brought it in and was able to come get it later that day for $15. I appreciate the option to repair instead of replace as I feel strongly about excess consumerism. Everyone in the store is incredibly helpful and pleasant to talk to. I've been in several times and am always notice their friendly staff. I am a happy customer! read more

I will add my voice to the positive reviews. When we moved to this area many years ago, our neighbors recommended the store, and we still go there. We have always found their staff to be knowledgeable and friendly. Many seem to have hands-on experience in various areas. I assume that's why they were hired, not because they are the slickest sales staff! Are they the cheapest or do they have the hugest selection when compared to a big-box store? Probably not, so that's why the 4 stars. However, when we ask a staff person about items for a project, generally s/he asks questions and provides information that saves us money and effort. I don't mind paying a small amount extra for the lessons and convenience. Do they have some bad days? Everyplace does. In comparison, I have often waited in the big box stores for the overworked employee who is trying to handle 3 customers at once. If you have regular hardware store needs, I recommend getting the Ace customer card, which then will get you sale fliers and occasional discounts. read more

I have been going to this hardware store for years. Today, I called in to have a piece of glass cut. I finally got Alec on the phone. Who took the size down and then told me to come in and he would cut it while I waited. He said it would take 2.5 minutes. It took Alec 12 minutes to pick up the phone. I sometimes stop by to pick up things for my mom because she likes this store. I don't know what's so amazing about this place. It's just a appliance store with extra trinkets available for sale. The store sore is easy to navigate, the employees on the floor are helpful, but it gets me that the older cashier people make you feel like an idiot when you're checking out. No, I don't have a rewards card & no you don't need to roll your eyes at me when I can't figure out which of the 50 businesses numbers my mom put down as her rewards card. read more

Prices may be little more then home depot or Lowe's but the service makes up for it, plus they carry (well it seem like it) almost any type of screw you need. also the employees are very helpful and it seems the store is over staffed for a little store. They are truly a helpful place. read more

Great Ace hardware. I was looking for a grill and called around to a couple of different Ace Hardware stores. Didn't get much help and they didn't seem interested in ordering it for me. I spoke to Marlene and she was great. She found it in the Ace inventory and called me to confirm that she could get it by the weekend. I also got a call confirming when they received it and was ready for me to pick up. The store seemed very well stocked and the staff seemed very nice and helpful- which is very refreshing. They even helped me take the grill out of the box because it wouldn't fit in my car. There are about 5 Ace Hardware stores between my house and Weiss in Gelnview. Long live the neighborhood hardware store. I just needed to get a few keys made and started over at Home Depot, which is a little closer to my house. Background on Home Depot experience below. Here's what's great about Ace . . . it's hard to get more then 10 feet down any aisle in Ace without someone asking if you need help. Everyone seems pretty knowledgeable, and if there's a question someone doesn't know, they get on their headset and have an answer almost immediately. On this trip, I got my keys made in no time at all, and when I got home, they worked, no problem. In contrast, Home Depot used their computerized system to make a copy of my key, and when I got home, it didn't work. Frustrated, I went back with a different original key, and explained the problem. The Home Depot customer service person told me it was probably a problem with my first original having gotten worn down, and she made two new ones off of an entirely different original. I got home, and those didn't work either. read more

I'm not one to frequent hardware stores, but I'm glad that I stumbled into this ACE. My adventure began when I needed and extra set of keys for my car. I drove to the dealer...parts department closed. I was referred to a locksmith down the street...closed too. I stopped at the ACE to get some lightbulbs while I was out-and-about. I ran into a very pleasant and cute older man wearing a hearing aid and red vest. I proceeded to unload my frustrations about car keys. He guided me back to a key machine and promptly made a set of keys for me which included the safety chip (who knew there was such a thing?) required for my car. He then accompanied me to the parking lot to verfiy that they worked properly. The service was excellent, and best of all, I'm sure I saved a bunch over what the dealer would have charged! read more

I have been going to Weiss Ace Hardware on Waukegan for more than 20 years whenever I need help. When you step in this store, one of the guy will guide you to the items you want. If you need some helps or consultations, one of them will give you suggestions. The workers seems to know a lot about handyman type of projects including painting, gardening, and plumbing. They also sell nuts and screws by a piece as well as a package. It's very helpful when you only need one piece, and you pay 10 cents or something low. You need to know the specification of the item or bring a sample. They had a spare car key, and one of the guy set it up for me in my car, and making spare keys for a house is very quickly done here. They always load garden stuffs such as mulch, soil, and stones to you car for you. You just tell the cashier the items you want and pay. They will give you a ticket for loading zone. read more

Great selection, they stock consumer and professional grade products so you can find things other stores don't want to stock. I like being able to look at the pro grade products as they are usually superior to the consumer stuff. Sometimes the staff can be a little gruff as they are either college kids or old timers but nothing that is a deal breaker. Much easier to get in and out of than the Big box guys. read more
