This is my go-to and closest Home Depot and has been so for 11 years now. It has always adequately met my needs and expectations and I can also run over for quick supplies if needed on an urgent basis. Staffers have been fine, and remote ordering and self-pickup have also been fine. Once in a great while, we will pick up some plants from their garden department but they can't compete quality wise with a couple of local nurseries. I'm not much a fan of Home Depot. However, when I bought a play structure for my child which was already assembled I needed to rent a truck in order to transport it. The rental process was pretty easy to do online, though it was frustrating that when I didn't rent it in time and it pushed my rental back an hour, I wasn't able to rent it for the time needed when I called (I think it's unlikely that it was rented in the few minutes before I made the reservation; rather, the hour changed and that pushed the earliest rental time back). It took about 10 minutes to check the van out. You have to return it with a full taken of gas or you'll be charged like $10 per gallon. read more

Goodbye, Home Depot. I purchased an AC on 20 June. When I walked in I asked an associate where the AC were. He pointed me to the end cap aisle near appliances. There was a stack of window units and 2 pallets. One with portable and one with window. He simply walked away while I struggled to get the AC (still shrink wrapped) off the pallet. Get it back to my apartment and I can't use it. It took 7 days for me to try to get it up to my unit & the way this is framed- I cannot use it. I get it back unused and 10 days later to Home Depot. Nobody in the store bothered to look at the item and then lied about signs being posted. Took photos of both the registers & the end aisle of where no signs are posted, but management nor customer care at 1-800 are interested in facts. They just dismiss you that you'll have no choice. If you change your return policy, there needs to be a grace period and there certainly needs to be some common sense. Also here's a hint, don't hire managers who lie and then gaslight customers. Well, I do have choices and that's beautiful. I have 2 accounts, redid my kitchen with HD 15 years ago and was looking to do again and also needed full appliance packages soon. Also buy a lot for gardening at my mom's and doing chores for her. So when I called customer service - their reply from manager was that item was used (not true & they never looked). Thankfully, there's Lowe's, Walmart, Amazon & Abt and I can always deal with them. But as a 20 year HD credit card holder- it's goodbye for me. Have common sense, if someone is returning an AC in the midst of a heat wave with 2 months of summer left- well- they aren't trying to pull one over on you. Yelp really needs to come up with a negative one star because it's not fair that we have to give one star just to leave the review. It's ironical that I looked back in over 15 years ago someone left a bad customer service review guess what I'm going to do as well. This is the second run in today that I've had with the same thug employee, so we're not just talking rude here, and I will quote when I stepped up in line to be served next this employee said " wasssss uuup" , always saying sir when talking to another man to show respect I was, needless to say, more than pissed off. So I proceeded to take my order backwards and wait for the next associate all the while still having words with my thug. I asked to speak to a manager who informed me that he would speak to this employee on how to speak to customers. While I don't ever expect I want to kiss my butt, I'm certainly not kissing theirs, particularly while we're acting like we're in thug nation. Now you fast-forward some months later, same employee, me genuinely not wanting to get in an altercation just to simply check out my items you know being a customer and all, I simply indicated to this thug that we don't play nice and I'll just wait for the next employee to become available. This was taken with such great offense that by the end of this entire situation he's taking off his smock ready to walk outside the store with me like we're in a rumble Neighborhood bar or something. Now I talk to the second manager who apparently if you wanna call him the operations manager ( darryll) -you'll have to pardon me while I laugh, he witnessed the entire situation, and didn't seem at all phased because I'm sure this is not this employee's first rodeo. It was suggested by the last manager that I spoke to the very last confrontation with this employee, remember -I'm the customer but never right - apparently, it was suggested by this manager that I put it in an email format to Daryl. Instead, I called the store later, and Spoke To Him directly. So according to Daryl he's going to talk to this employee knowing that I've already spoken to a different manager several months ago about the exact same scenario that went down today. So I suppose I'm supposed to be intimidated like the rest of the customers that probably never call on this guy but eventually it's going to come to a head with his employee. He didn't think so, even though this was the same manager that just witnessed this employee taking off his smock ready to go out and do it out when I walked out of the store. I'm amazed that we have this store still in business it needs to be shut down and all of the employees fired. Including the manager. This is the most absurd situation I've ever been in when it comes to retail environments And judging by the review that was left 15 years ago, corporate is encouraging this type of environment and behavior by their management because this will probably not be the last crappy customer service bad review they're going to get, so they apparently encourage it Can't wait for my Standard issue corporate why don't you go to this other website and fill out the we don't care form so that we can file it in the email garbage can and wait until something really boils over in our store at Dempster in Green Wood. I had 2 plants delivered by FedX that I ordered from Home Depot. They arrived in beautiful boxes. When I opened them all I saw was a lot of dirt and two empty hanging baskets. The plants were completely destroyed. I called Home Depot and fortunately a wonderful gentleman answered the phone. His name is Issac! Isaac determinedly set out to help me find a resolution! He very kindly allowed my husband to come to the store and pick up 2 beautiful plants. I want to thank Issac and if I could I'd name him Employee of the year!! In response to the comment from Home Depot, I will add the following information. First, the in-store sales staff are in my opinion, uninformed about the products that they are selling Second, I think it is unbelievable that Home Depot would think it is OK for a third-party delivery service to drop a pallet full of flooring material on my driveway and not take responsibility from moving this into my home. This is heavy material and I think about what it would be like for seniors or disabled customers to move the material inside. I am a healthy person, I am in my 60s and find it hard to believe that I would have to take this material and move it into my home myself. It appears that Home Depot wants to save money on their delivery but really short change their customers. We were unaware that the material had to be kept inside, i.e. left on the driveway as I've stated previously. We took time out of our schedules to have this floor installed only to be told by the installers that they couldn't do it because the flooring was outside. Once while waiting in line, someone else cut in on me; the salesguy waited on him first (the other guy: looked like contractor; me: not so much). Another time, my hubby & I were there to get paint for the kitchen -- we were torn between a couple of options and wanted an opinion. As a new home owner, I underestimated how much I would appreciate having a Home Depot within a mile of the house, and placed directly along my commute to boot. Just as convenient as the geography are their hours--6am to 10pm. I have taken advantage of that early start time more than once. The number two advantage of this HD is self-checkout. I have never seen a line for these machines, ever. Otherwise, this is a typical Home Depot--i.e., the layout is confusing, it's hard to find anything that you want, and noone wants to help you. You will see a legion of employees wandering around, but none will stop to ask if you need assistance. However, once you initiate the conversation, most are helpful. The best use that I have made of this store is for light bulbs. Typically I have the expired bulb in hand, and with only one exception so far, they have always had the right replacement. (This is one of the many revelations of home ownership--who knew that there were so damn many kinds of light bulbs?!) One more note on Christmas trees. For fifteen years, I have bought my tree from a Home Depot (quality, selection, and value cannot be beaten anywhere), but 2015 was my first at this location. The trees live in the parking lot rather than inside the garden center like elsewhere. While this is a slight advantage for getting the tree to your car (more on that in a moment), it must make tree shopping rather unpleasant during inclement weather. (Not to mention the tribulations of the employees out there.) I happened to go on a sunny, 45-degree Saturday so it was no big deal...but that is hardly typical for mid-December. Because the tree area is in the parking lot (or perhaps because this is the genteel and indolent suburbs), the tree guys were telling people to bring their cars around for professional loading. I appreciated the high level of customer service, and it's true that the guy lashed the tree to my car faster than I would have. However, the tradeoff was waiting in a line several cars long and then waiting for a guy to become available. This was after I had already waited in a line to have my tree trimmed and wrapped, and then waited in another line to pay. So much waiting! I am a very busy and important person. I should have simply asked for my tree right away so that I could carry it a few rows to my car and tie it on myself. So the lesson is, if you don't want to wait, just ask for your tree right away. If you don't mind waiting, enjoy the VIP service. read more

Shout out to Craig H. In electronics! I came in to find a part to fix a lamp that wasn't working anymore. Found the part for $5 but mentioned to Craig that I didn't know how to fix it so he fixed it for me then and there. He got out his tools, spliced the wiring and reconnected to the bulb and voila! He was patient and took a solid 10 minutes of his time to help me. I did not expect that level of service. Felt like I was in a time warp back in the good old days when good service was the norm. It also felt great fixing something instead of throwing it away and buying another. Fix it! Don't toss it! read more

It is sad to say that a company this big has horrible customer service. Nobody knows were anything is. There is nobody on the floor to help or even care about what's going on. I bet if there check was based on commission you would be happy to help a customer. I ordered a frig and gave the measurements and still had the wrong frig delivered to me..How is that even possible. Spent ample amount of time out of my busy day to be given the wrong frig. Than be told when I went in to discuss what happen "I overlooked it." Makes you wonder if these companies do drug testing. How can you overlook measurements given to you ? Are you on drugs because that's the only thing that can cause someone not to do there job properly. I will never buy appliances from here ever again. They may be "the man" of hardware stores but I have to admit they are a really quality store. Any one of their stores is always packed, so that tells me they have alot of loyal customers. Of course they have tons of hardware supplies and home improv. items, but I was surprised how much outdoor or yard items this location has, such as sheds, patio furniture, and tons of gardening supplies and plants. read more

I recently went to this Home Depot in search of an item to fix an appliance. I asked two staff members who were speaking with each other and was told they didn't carry that part. In and of itself that's fine but they replied with the answer as if I should know that this giant store doesn't happen to carry this part and looked at me like I was an idiot an even laughed . They also told me " nobody has it, maybe an appliance store but they are closed today" (also with rude tone) meanwhile Lowe's did have the product I needed, in stock. The staff at were rude and condescending. I also asked another staff member where a pocket hole jig was located. He had no idea what I was talking by about. The absolute worst home depot around. Its nice looking and clean but I spoke to employee after employee who was poorly trained no matter hiw nice tgey were. At one point they reccomended the wrong materials and purchases. I was in the pro desk waiting literally for an hour to pay. Worst experience ever. If you do not know what osb is or rigid foam is, you should not be at the pro desk speaking only in a foreign language to othe employees. But wait, there is more! My orer did not come when I asked for it. Turns out the delivery date was entered one week later than we had agreed. Thanks Elizabeth. I called the assistant store manager who primissed he would have Elba delete the order. Just checked my credit card and there has been no cancellation. I have been here three times for paint, and each time I waited in line 45 minutes to an hour. I've tried going real early or late in the evening, but it's always the same. Not sure why there is only one person behind the counter when there is always a line of people waiting. It's not good for the customer, and I can't imagine how stressful it is for the cashier. Home Depot you can do better!! For future painting projects I definitely will not go back. I think after three visits it's safe to say there are other companies that can and probably do better by a long stretch. read more

Though it's closest to home, this is one of my least favorite locations. I come here if I need to fix something at home since there's really no better option nearby. First off, if I don't know where to find something, I'm better off wandering and finding it myself. I've been misled by their equally befuddled staff many times. Most recently, I needed a doorbell and the helpful person led me to the section with the different doors. When we didn't see the doorbells, he then got a call and had to run. So I went wandering and found doorbells (in the light fixtures area, not by the doors you idiot!) Then there was the time I needed a specific part for a faucet. I went to the kitchen area. The person at the main counter there was talking on the phone for maybe 10-15 minutes. I ended up going to another store since it looked like he was the only one there and I was not the only person waiting to see him. And then there's the garden center. Need to do spring planting and have no clue on raising plants? Well, neither do these people. They have plenty of broken, withered, and drippy, overwatered pots for sale during the growing season. Why have your plants die in your garden when you can buy them pre-killed at the store? Need potting soil? Chances are, the bags have little tears in them or the whole pallet is still shrink-wrapped and you need to rip it with your bare hands to pull out a bag. And watch for those giant puddles and leaky hoses all over the place. The water especially tends to collect near the outdoor checkouts. For most of my basic garden center needs, I've found a much better Home Depot near my workplace, at the corner of Lincoln & McCormick by Lincolnwood. And finally, what happened to those orange race car shopping carts? I have not seen the orange carts for a couple months now. Yes, some of them had broken parts and seemed a bit dingy, but my 4-year old was very disappointed when we came on a slow day and not a single one was in sight. Home Depot... You better hope that Menard's or Lowes doesn't eyeball that abandoned Dominick's over on Greenwood anytime soon. read more

We came in to pick up some miscellaneous home maintenance items, not for a specific project. The people were mostly very friendly, with only a few who seemed taken by their tasks at hand. Not bad! The available products seems pretty good. The have a variety of options for most of the items we looked for, and the prices seemed decent for a retail store, and most items are available to be ordered and delivered to the store. Check out was great. We had a gift card, though using a self-check register still went very well with assistance nearby. Overall, a great resource for home goods and building materials. read more

Did three laps around the store looking for what I needed and of the few people working, all looked absolutely miserable and did not even offer a simple "hello". I eventually found someone who simply pointed (in the wrong direction no less) and I ended up back where I started. A friendly man finally approached me and asked how he could help and walked me to the items. I know most companies are moving away from brick & mortars and focusing on their e-commerce sites, so this particular location with its non-existent customer service could probably close and save the company quite a bit. read more

We came the first day and bought the light fixture. $18 for exactly what I was looking for. I was very happy. We successfully take down the old fixture and find out that the mounters are the wrong size and we need something flat and wider. Another trip here and we found what we were looking for. Well, we asked for help and a very competent gentleman showed us to the correct area, shuffled through the options with us and stayed by our side until we made up our minds. Very nice. Part of me wants to give them five stars simply because I still can't get over the fact that everything is in English, Spanish AND POLISH! "Witamy," indeed! Maybe, I just looked out of place in a home improvement store and the staff felt sorry for me as I wandered the isles looking for my husband.
