We have really become fans of John Wright. Popped in a week ago unplanned for a quick bite. Was treated to some great acoustic music. We sat on the lower covered patio. Nice water view. Staff was nice. Food.... I was not impressed. We got the street corn dip. Base was broken. Tasted old and had no flavor. Tortilla chips were not impressive either. For my meal I ordered the Everything sandwich ( avocado ((smashed))chopped red peppers, cucumbers, amd mayo on chiabatta. I chose the homemade sweet potato chips as a side. The sandwich is served open-faced and toasted. Heavy mayo the cucumbers then smashed avocado and chopped reds then sprinkled with Everything seasoning. The bread was super hard to bite into. If you have ever had restaurant heavy mayo you know the flavor. I ended up just scraping off the goods and eating them with the chips. The staff was decent. And the view really pretty but the food was nothing to write home about. read more

I was very disappointed with my soft shell crab poboy. I feel like it was a bait and switch (ha ha). Everything was nicely prepared but there were two little pieces of heavily breaded something! So I pulled an end off and there was a crab claw in it. Where is the rest of the crab? WTF! What a ripoff. You can't have soft shell crab on the menu and serve two 3" crab claws! Went to enjoy as nice summer evening with friends on their Patio and worked with the waitress to have a relaxing time enjoy drinks, appetizers and then pizzas and Sandwiches. In short, as we were finishing up our meals at the 1:40 mark, Melissa, the rude "Manager" came over and began to clear our plates. When we asked to have desserts, she said no and that we had to leave due to a 1:30 min time limit at the table. If we wanted, she would Box up our Ice Cream to take with us but she said we must get up from the table. At NO TIME were we told of a 1:30 min max time frame...not when we booked our reservations and more importantly when we were having fun with the waitress about taking it slow between drinks, appetizers and the Meal to the point it became a joke with her setting her watch on when we wanted her to come back. Needless to say the situation could have been handled a lot better. WONT BE GOING BACK!! BTW, why I have you...during a visit a week earlier, we ordered the Chicken Lollypops for $13 in the main restaurant. What we got was 3 drumsticks....LOL, for $13. read more

I will say if I could give a negative 100 stars review I would after receiving a voicemail from the chef and owner dropping the f bomb in the voicemail. I wish I could put his foul mouthed voicemail in this review to show what a terrible owner and in my opinion probably not someone you want to work for. This was started when I requested to be able to order a takeout desert on my way home, one desert that was very good. when I called earlier in the day it was no,problem and when I called to order it, all of a sudden they didn't d takeout. We stopped in after an hours on the river, got to the pizza outdoor bar a 6 pm, took 15 minutes to get a drink order, we asked for water as well and got seltzer water. We ordered at the time we got our drink as we knew the bar service was bad after 15 minutes waiting to place a drink order.. well at 730 pm our pizza did not come, the bartender obviously did not place the order, we left......having been there 10-12 times previously, we WILL NEVER GO BACK. People were at the bar waiting to get drinks, refills and pay bill etc. At one point everyone at the bar needed a drink or refill. One customer even went to the inside bar to order after waiting at least 15 minutes. On the way out was asked to see the Manger, never identified herself, listened politely and admittingly knowing she had both bartender and service issues then walked away when we were done, Absolutely pathetic. Visited here before a friend's wedding day. We came here after the rehearsal. My friend reserved 5 big table and a set menu. It's a nice restaurant. We got to choose our main course. Salad- garden salad and Caesar Main course- don't quiet rmb the choices. But everything is in average surprisingly in York area. Dessert- peanut butter bomb- way too heavy and sweet, ice cream- great, creme brulee- too sweet. Overall- great restaurant. read more

I haven't been here in a couple years but walking past the kitchen on the way in I knew it was going to be a sub par experience this time in contrast to our great experience the last time. My dinner was 2 stars but my husband enjoyed his so I'll give it a 3 overall. It's not the cleanest or most organized kitchen and a bit shocking they're not more on point with it since everyone walks past it to be seated. There's also an old food smell you can sense when you walk by and in the room headed to the bathrooms too. The smell that lingers if you don't change the mop heads regularly and deep clean often enough. The chairs are cheap, flimsy, and worn and the tables are supposed to look rustic and cute but they frankly are way too small and the menus were stupidly large for no reason. Service was passable. We hardly saw our server and she was nice but she didn't do anything timely and wasn't really attentive. I didn't appreciate being hovered over while taking care of the bill either. My dinner was editable but not particularly good. It was the same thing I had on my last visit 2 years ago and it had been memorably amazing last time. It was overpriced for an over cooked pork chop, sad veggies, and overly sweet legumes. Nothing tasted fresh. I wasn't the only one underwhelmed. I saw uneaten food on other plates to be discarded including the pork chop which is extremely bad because it wasn't enough food either. I went home hungry despite forcing myself to eat it all because it was so expensive. There was no salad or bread which I don't really care about if dinner is filling enough. It's a pretty place. This place has THE view and decent food IF you can get a table. We had our well behaved dog with us so needed a patio table. The first time we visited, they told us an hour wait. No problem, we walked down by the river, saw more than half the tables not occupied, and thought it odd but maybe they were understaffed as so many places are these days. Anyway, we popped across the bridge to an antique center in Columbia to spend some time. The hostess took our number but never called. We checked back in a little over and hour later and they could seat us right away. Odd. Food was a little expensive for what you got. I ordered a delicious salad with grilled chicken. There was barely enough chicken fr the price I paid, but what I had was good. My husband ordered tacos. There were only two tacos which is not enough to feed a hungry man after a bike ride on the Northwest Lancaster trail. The second time we tried to visit I called ahead but still couldn't get a tables so we went to Trio Bar and Grill to eat outside with our dog on their patio. I can understand being hard to get into if the place was GREAT but I didn't think it was all that plus knowing they only seat half the restaurant's tables for lunch. I might try again someday just so we can have lunch with that view but the hassle likely is t worth it. read more

We reserved a table outside. When we got there and got our food, there were many bees around our table, trying to get to the food, and surrounding us. It was to the point where we couldn't eat because they were on our forks and on our food. I asked if there can be anything done to get rid of the bees, and was told that you have incense that would help the situation. It took a while for the servers to bring them out and when they did, it did not help at all. And so I asked the manager if we can move inside, and was told that there wasn't any room inside, which I understand that can happen. I again informed her of the bee issue and she responded "Yeah, the bees are bad this year." So we tried to give the incense time to remove some of the bees but still wasn't able to eat as no bees left. I looked around and saw that there were no bees at any other tables. So I asked the manager if we could move to another table outside, where we saw at least 10 tables available. And she responded and said that isn't possible and there isn't anything else they can do. She had no empathy for the situation whatsoever. My wife then spoke to the manager and the manager stated that you don't have a bee problem, even though she told me it was bad.  It took my wife speaking to the manager for us to move to a table near the bar area, but when we moved, the manager stated that she wouldn't be able to guarantee good service if we moved there.  The waitress still served us, but it was humiliating, disappointing and disrespectful to be treated this way. read more

Server was nice but admitted they were short staffed so did not see much of her. We had the pizza the sauce on that pizza is horrible, way too chunky. Very strange, my fiancé only picked what meat if he could from his meat lovers because of the chunks of tomato, onion, and I think peppers.. he absolutely hated his and pretty much said it's the worst pizza he's ever had. I had the blood orange drink which I thought was supposed to be your crush but that was absolutely nasty and tasted more like soda. Yeah, I was not a fan at all. The inside is very nice. The pizza patio has really shitty chairs that are very uncomfortable and very small table, so you don't have a lot of room to be around or put yourself down. Had been waiting a long time to go there, had to make reservations, we got to the restaurant on time and still had to wait 30 minutes to get seated outside, the outside seating is wonderful, we sat on the dinner side not the pizza side, the view of the river and watching all the people walk around in. The field was entertaining. I ordered a ceaser salad and a cheeseburger, my wife ordered some Cajun dish, my wife said hers was ok, (to hot) and she wouldn't order it again, my cheeseburger was ok not worth the $14, the ceaser salad was the worst salad I have ever tasted, I took 2 bites and put it aside, my wife tried it and thought the sale, their dressing was made in house, just don't understand how any top chef can come up with such a bad version of a ceaser salad, and have other dishes turn out well. We will return, but we will sit on the pizza side and give it a try, the view of the river is the only reason we would return here, both of us had quesy stomachs that night. read more

I've been here quite a few times for lunch and enjoyed soups, sandwiches and salads a great deal. Tonight was the first time I was here for dinner. Our server was excellent. We were a large group, about 15 people, and she did a super job and was very friendly. We were 3 of the 15 in the party. One ordered a watermelon sangria and it was too sweet but good. . I ordered a red sangria and it wasn't sweet enough. I asked for some simple syrup which was brought and did help it. Without, it was just some not excellent red wine over ice. Sangria usually comes with an orange slice or some cut up fruit. These came with a lemon wedge and a maraschino cherry. Not what I expected. DH ordered paella. I tasted it and although he said it was good, I thought it was more like jambalaya than paella. A red sauce, a few shrimp and smoky sausage slices and some very small muscles. I had a muscle and it didn't taste or feel as fresh as I thought it should. I ordered Rampi Scampi described as pasta, shrimp, tomatoes and garlic ramps in a creamy sauce. I've heard that garlic ramps are delicious so I was looking forward to this. The sauce had chopped up green things in it. I imagine those were the ramps, but, who knows. It was ok, but not greAt. Our third person ordered the special of the night, smoked snapper with a creamy sauce served with potato bacon dumplings and fine green beans. It was the best meal of our three. The fish was very good. The best thing I tasted this evening. The 4 small dumplings were sort of gnocchi with a few pieces of bacon in them. The sauce on the fish was not memorable nor identifiable taste wise. The green beans were overly salty. Overall, I'd go back for lunch where the menu includes salads and sandwiches. The dinner menu includes a burger and one other "handheld" item. The food was not good enough for the price point. We were seated immediately without reservations at 4:30 on a Thursday. Had watermelon sangria and ice tea--loved the tea. Ordered Pistachio Crusted Cod--wished there had been a garlic cream instead of red sauce--just ok, not very flavorful. Seafood Manicotti was swimming in sauce with some seafood--just ok. Green beans were excellent and by far the best part of the dinners. Server was very friendly and polite. Food was just ok. If we returned, we would opt for the pizza side of the patio. Excellent job at keeping socially distant and creating a relaxed environment for diners. They've set up a tent outside to allow for air flow, and all staff are fully masked. Our waiter kept her distance, never invaded our space, and gave us extremely prompt service. The kitchen here never disappoints. I'm a meat lover, but I'm glad I tried the vegetable lasagna! The fried catfish and peanut butter dessert were decadent, well balanced dishes that left you satisfied in just the right way. Also, best mojito I've had in 9 years. Looking for lunch with a view. Was recommended this restaurant from a vineyard. There's a great atmosphere here and the service is great. Started my meal with a cup of cream crap and asparagus soup. So creamy,loaded with asparagus and crab meat . Not bad for $4.50 a cup. My meal was the Vietnamese BAHN MI sandwich with fries. This sandwich was made with sliced ham,cilantro, jalapenos, carrots and peppers. What a light,flavory sandwich. Big enough to fill the belly without going overboard. Their fries were cooked just right. Crispy on the outside soft on the inside. I thought they were salted perfect for my taste. Some may find them just a little on the saltier side. Our other meal was the foundry burger. Nice sized burger with lettuce and tomato with a pickle on the side and BBQ sauce. Medium rare was perfectly cooked. We didn't get dessert because we were already full. I definitely found a new restaurant. When in the York,Lancaster area definitely look this place up. I don't understand why it has a 3star rating. Food and prices are very reasonable esp for lunch. Keep in mind lunch ends at 3 pm dinner starts at 4. Enjoy! I sure did. This place is all about the location! The seasonal pizza patio has a great view of the Susquehanna river and the bridge. We enjoyed playing cornhole while waiting for food, and took a number of good group photos with the river and bridge in the background. If it wasn't for the nice outdoor area, I probably wouldn't come here specifically for the food. I can only speak specifically to the pizzas, but I would rate them as just ok. My hands were covered in black char by the end of the meal. Each pizza is good sized for one person, or two if also sharing a salad or an appetizer. read more

The waitstaff and food were both exemplary. However, the crew that takes reservations needs to step-up their game. We called for a table 24 hours ahead of time to reserve a table for dinner the next night. We were told that our table would be ready at 7:00 as requested. When we arrived 10 minutes early and gave the staff our name, the look of utter confusion crossed her face. She said that she didn't have our name on the reservation list. She fumbled thru her tablet multiple times...at which point I asked to speak to the manager, and not in a "Karen-like" manner! LOL The "manager" appeared to be about 12 years old, but he proceeded to look thru his tablet. No luck...our name wasn't there, either. As if. We're into this for about 20 minutes when he said he "might" have a table for us in the enclosed patio. Not ideal, but OK...we're hungry and wanted to eat. We took the table, and then everything worked out just fine. For a restaurant of this level, a system as simple as taking a reservation should be as easy as falling off a barstool. We'll be back because it's a local business and the food is perfect, but let's take it to the next level, JWR. read more

Solid 3. Beautiful views and very accommodating. We had the salmon and steak. Small size for the salmon. Tasted good. Rice was quite salty. Wish The Whole dish was a bit larger. If you're familiar with Harvest Restaurant it is a very similar platter size with a high pice point. The steak was tasty with the seasoning, but there was a good bit of fat all over. Tasted alright. Honestly didn't blow me out of the water. A Long Horn, Texas Roadhouse, JB Dawson's would be more preferable for a ribeye steak. Was a decent experience. I'll give them this, tremendous when it comes to wait time on a busy evening! I was super pleased! IF you choose the pizza area, know that they're separate menus for inside and outside dining. New york strip steak was over cooked and had over 50% fat and grizzle and no seasoning. The chichen piece on the plate was very small. The crabcake had a lot of filler and was falling apart. Oh my goodness, yes! What a lovely restaurant right on the water of the Susquehanna. I loved the building and the scenery and huge windows that allow you to see the beautiful river no matter where you're seated in the restaurant. The food was utterly incredible! I ordered the trout, which came pan seared with garlic green beans and fingerling potatoes. The topping on the trout, which consisted of tomatoes, onion, garlic, olives and capers, was the perfect accompaniment to the light flavor of the trout. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his Pork Shank with garlic mashed potatoes and cooked greens. It was the most succulent pork shank I've ever had the honor of tasting! The prices range from $15-$30 but I think it's absolutely worth the money. If I'm back in the area, I would go again for a nice evening meal. read more

Three stars for now...definitely need to come back. And during warmer weather because I image the view and ambiance change the atmosphere quite a bit. Cute little shop off to the right and nice sized bar. Unfortunately I forgot to take a photo. I ordered a grilled chicken cesar salad. What I thought was odd is that the salad was served without the chicken. A flattened chicken breast was served a few minutes later on a separate dish?? The chicken was over cooked and rubbery. The salad was a normal cesar salad, but I liked the parmesan chips. Everything on the menu seemed reasonably price. I look forward to coming back. read more

Highly disappointed. This was my first visit here. Upscale? Maybe a step up from a diner because of the historic building and the view. Our waitress moved at the speed of dark. The food was basically what you get in a diner, served on black plastic plates. I've included a picture of what I ordered. We also got drinks with our order and then ordered another round of beverages after our meal. There was UFOs floating at the bottom of one of the beer I've included a picture. Our waitress apologized and said maybe it was from drinking it...um we were done eating there was no way...that glass was dirty. We saw the dessert tray and it looked like the dessert were sitting there for days. Absolutely unappealing. We did talk to a manager. She apologized and said I'm sorry what the waitress said offended you...are you freaking kidding me? In my option this place is dirty. Not just because of the glass, the bathroom was dirty, the candle at the center of the table was dirty, I can't image what the kitchen looks like. Highly would avoid going here for your own safety. We had reservations for dinner Saturday night. The restaurant was busy, but we were seated right away. Our server was very friendly and helpful. I am a lover of a good Caesar salad (with chicken). I ordered the chicken Caesar, which had a nice amount of sliced chicken breast. The salad had a fishy flavor and was kind of dry. I ordered extra Caesar dressing, which our server promptly brought out. As I continued to eat the salad I just couldn't get rid of the fishy taste, which seemed to get much fishier when I added the additional dressing. I asked the server if the salad had anchovies in it. She said there are minced anchovies in the dressing. I HATE ANCHOVIES! I told her that no where in the description on the menu does it say "anchovies" and that this is something, had I known, I wouldn't have ordered. No apology or suggestion offered. Most of the salad got thrown away. I also noted that the entrees all had the sides listed...no list of substitutions offered. I've eaten lunch at Wright's often and the lunches are great. I will not eat dinner there again. Expensive and they have attempted to make their meals fancy and very selective. read more

I gave it a three for the food, would be a two for Covid considerations. First the food...I had the fish tacos. The fish, rice and tortillas were separated on the plate, which is fine, but that's all it was. Chunks of fish, rice and 3 small tortillas. I've never ordered fish tacos where there wasn't some sort of slaw or pineapple blend or something else to put on it. Found it odd. The dessert was fantastic, 5 stars. Had a paw paw special cake with buttercream icing. That was the best part of the meal. As for Covid precautions, this was a weeknight and the 50% occupancy was not in effect. It was closer to 100%. We went to Sunday brunch and I'd like to start off by saying that since we are new to the area and restaurant our waitress didn't even explain what we could get there. There were no bread options or toast availability as far as we knew until we asked. What Sunday morning brunch has no bread options--toast, English muffins, bagels, croissants, muffins, donuts, etc. !!! no jellies or jams oh that's right, because there was no bread! Not much breakfast fare, huh!!! They did have ahi tuna & spicy crab frittata, tho! Great--NOT they were horrible also! She told us we couldn't have any other egg options other than the omelettes that were on the menu when later we found out from a manager, I presume, that we could've asked for scrambled or fried eggs. Since we were arrived, promptly at 11 when they opened, we thought that the food would've been piping hot--everything was lukewarm at best and our juices were cool with no ice added. When we got up to go for another dish, our waitress didn't remove our dishes, and when we came back to the table, we had to move them ourselves to an adjacent chair or table. All in all for paying what we paid $27 per person. There were four adults. It was a sucky Buffay! Never to return there again! read more
