I have 2 major likes and 2 concerns about this little place i have frequented many times, often with my grandmother. The likes are that compared to places like Perkins and IHop it's nice to get away from that frozen reheated not so home cooked feeling food that most restaurants these days toss at us. 3 out of the 5 times I've gone here have been for the French Dip, because the ones at Perkins and have become mushy pies served with tasteless sauce. The other like i have is that there are often good people serving you, and personally i have never had a bad one in my experience, and always get hot food. Now, my 2 concerns- #1, the layout is old and it shows. If you come during a busy time, and you don't enjoy people, you will not have a good time. #2, the salad bar is pretty limited, and the layout makes it hard to get around. read more

We were looking for just a solid, reasonably priced breakfast joint in town when we moved here. Someone told us we just HAD to go to Crystal Cafe in Dakota City - tried it, twice no less, and not interested in going back. We went to Johnnie Mars this weekend and were impressed. Granted we didn't get too adventurous with the menu - I'm an eggs and toast kind of girl for breakfast, and hubby had the blueberry pancakes with sausage. Coffee was really good, eggs were a perfect over-medium (and still hot when I got my food) and the pancakes were good, although yellow batter always makes me suspicious. Order the short stack of pancakes, for sure! My hubby can EAT and he couldn't even finish 2 pancakes. Looking forward to trying some of the lunch or dinner options in the future. read more

Best breakfast in town. We go every Sunday. The staff is awesome! Resturant is very clean. Lunch and dinner are great too. Hungarian tomato soup on Tuesday and Friday is to die for! If you buy a T or sweatshirt the your drink is free everytime you wear it there. read more

After ordering my food, I ended up not liking what I ordered (it's not that it was bad, I just didn't know it was spicy and don't like spicy food). The waitress noticed and almost immediately asked if I'd like to replace it for free or just take the cost off my bill. This is such a treasure in the community. The prices are phenomenal and the staff is so friendly. Everything I've had has been great, but the Greek cuisine is by far my favorite of the dishes! If you are looking for a greek salad, look no further than here! It is not only delicious but it could feed an Army! Despite a busy Sunday crowd we only waited 5 minutes to get a table. Flow of foot traffic terrible, service unfriendly and hurried. Food is better at Village Inn or Perkins. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet. One slice of packaged American cheese cut in thirds, slapped on top and microwaved until tender. Ridiculous. My wife's breakfast steak was rubbery and not a fresh sirloin. Toast was cold and dry. Maybe it's a local favorite. Maybe Sioux Citians appreciate bad food and cranky service. Maybe the two door layout could be used as an entrance and exit and not have the cash register at the entrance door. Maybe the checkout could be table side. It's a box of a building with excruciating feng shui. Next time in Sioux City we won't eat here, especially with a Perkins within 4 blocks. One star is too many. read more

Ok, this place is soooo awesome you have to try it. The Greek fries are sooo delicious with feta and oregano sprinkled on crispy steak fries....who would have ever thought feta and fries??? I have had the Greek salad with chicken which is really good and the dressing is delicious, but the Ruben is the best ever! They do their own corned beef and it is tender and delicious, not the thin sliced tough stuff some restaurants use. I was very impressed!! The salad bar is really good too! All the salads tasted home made and there was a nice variety for a small salad bar. Prices are GREAT! read more

Mom always said if you don't have something good to say....... but this place has slid into soup kitchen quality food. I've tried this place many times understanding that it's been part of Sioux City's heritage for so long and trying to find the good to bring me back....... If you're going to go there and can't get out of it...... Stick with a hamburger/cheeseburger or a GYRO. Honestly, every time I deviate, I'm completely disappointed and wonder how they've managed to stay in business. The food is school cafeteria grade (maybe) with gelatinous muck used in lieu of gravy. The salad bar has........ lettuce but, no tomato, no cucumber, no onion, or anything else you'd expect to find on a salad bar. On an upside, the staff is usually friendly but the food overshadows their efforts. The owners need to step up and fire the cook (he's no chef, that's for sure) and make sure some integrity goes into every meal. If you feel yourselves that this food is worthy of charging people for then, you should really hire someone to oversee your business and step back. I won't complain any more but, I've certainly been disappointed, if not down right grossed out enough. read more
