I hate that so many people had a bad experience. Our experience was the complete opposite. We had coach Lance and he was amazing with our son. He was friendly, patient and calm as he taught tennis skills and even incorporated age appropriate games to keep the kids engaged in the lesson. He always approached coaching with enthusiasm and put in effort to get to know the kids, their strengths and their individual tennis needs. We went through two rounds of classes and I'm sure will be back soon. I have no complaints. The entire experience was great and I have referred several other families. read more

My son did their 4 day, half day summer camp in June. The coaches were over half an hour late on the first day. We had to keep calling the city so they could contact Johnny Allen. Management said we would get the extra half an hour but this was probably never conveyed to the coaches. Saw a post here about where they get instructions from and I know either. The main coach seemed friendly but came disorganized and seemed like he just rolled out of bed. I wanted this to be an introduction to tennis for my 6 year old, so I didn't too much expectations. However, there were too many kids and a large range of ages for just 2 coaches to handle. The kids were just a number. Not sure where they found these instructors from, but the one I experienced has 0 personality. Working with 3-5 year olds, it is extremely important to be encouraging and enthusiastic. On top of that, there is a ton of wait time for this age group. Each class, they get in a single file line and wait their turn to hit for 3-4 times over a period of 30 min. As they hit or completely miss repeatedly at this age, they do not get any verbal encouragement at all. With parents who are willing to support their children, they should get them involved and even practice hitting to the fence so that they get more actual practice. Such a disappointment! read more

If possible, no stars for the Rancho Cucamonga Location! The coach is very rude. I've watched some classes, and the coach has his favorites, meaning kids who already have previous experience in playing the game. I have the impression that he wants just to play, and not to teach the other kids. I don't recommend it. Very frustrated. read more

Hands down Lance is the best coach - so patient, funny & in tune with the children ! He has a special talent to make class fun & engaging.As long as lance is the coach we will be there ! My son took a lesson with Johny at Ontario location. They teach the basic for beginners, and I feel like after 3 months joining, he got improved. Wish they could open at new Locations that much closer to our house. Johnny Allen, please consider opening class at Montclair location. There is a small nice park with the tennis court at Alma Hofmann Park that can be used for tennis class, lot of kids around the city will for sure come to taking the class if there is any other sport option activities offer. read more

I wish I could give zero stars.Very disorganized company. I can't review their instructors because we never got a chance to take a class. Their website looks great but there is no info about class locations or times although they offer a free class. I signed up for the free class and they sent an email confirming that yes I could have my 8 year old son try a class. However no information was given on how to use the voucher or register for a class. Also, no one ever answers the phone. You have to leave a message or email. The woman who called back was very confused and confusing. She had no information about which classes were open. She had to call me back. Then she told me my son could try out a class at Pearson Park. It was 4 PM and the class started at 5:30. So we drove through rush hour traffic. When we got there no one was there. We waited awhile but no class.My 8 year old son was very disappointed. I called the office and no answer. Later, the woman called me a s left a message apologizing because the class was cancelled. So forget it I'll find another tennis school. These people dont know how to run a business and I can't waste anymore time on them. read more

My 7 year old son held his very own racquet for the first time in this Class. From zero knowledge of terms, positions, grips and strokes, I have seen great improvement in his form & game. Hats off to coach Drew for his extreme patience, congenial yet firm demeanor and overall excellent knowledge of the Game itself. It's one thing to know the sport; it's another to be able to teach it and Coach Drew does excellent coaching. My son has turned interest to loving the Game. Thank you Coach Drew for everything you do for the kids, even when temps go as high as 100° on the court. This is definitely a Class I would recommend to anyone who wants their kids to LEARN THE BASICS THE RIGHT WAY! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. This company is so unprofessional. I signed both of my daughters up for a summer camp offered by Johnny Allen Tennis TWICE! Both times we showed up early before 9:00am the first day of class and BOTH times nobody from Johnny Allen Tennis ever showed up! Other kids were there waiting as well. They never notified of any cancellation of the class nor was anything posted that it had been cancelled and nobody from Johnny Allen ever showed up. I have tried to call yet nobody answers the phone. My son did 7 different sessions over the course of an 18 month period. When he was in soccer he would not do tennis. Anyways I dropped him off for the intermediate practice at day creek at 630. It goes until 8:30. I show up around 8 and watch the last 30 minutes or so. Well around 7 I did miss a call and called back and no one answered and there wasnt a message so I just thought it was a telemarketer. Anyways I show up and my son runs out to my car crying. He is 10 years old. The coach hadnt allowed him to play because he wasnt on the list. It was 40 degrees that night and I had paid 7 other times and I had paid this time around 2:30, but the owner had sent the list at 12 noon. It was so cold and my son had regularly attended the program. Prior to this I had been happy with the program but I thought this was a real sleezy thing to do. My son waited for an hour in a half in the cold. They are a buisness but they are also serving the community and work with the Miliken community center and are promoted by the GrapeVine. I called and complained and the Rancho center was professional and courteous but Johnny Allen tennis displayed a lack of integrity and compassion for a 9 year Rancho Cucamongan resident. read more

My son has been going to the JATA for many years. Fees for both the clinics and private lessons are more than reasonable for the education and training they give. Johnny and his team of coaches work the kids hard and have a high expectation for work ethic and performance. During this time, due in great part to the academy, my son has become a fine young player and a young man with a great deal of character. I would certainly recommend JATA to any parent of a child of any skill level, interested in participating in tennis. read more

took a for year old girl to a trial tennis lesson upon arrival the lets call him a coach told us she would not be able to play tennis. mind you he has not even met my daughter at this point because to this coach 4 yr old girls dont play as well as boys (his words) 10 minutes into the lesson he comfirmed that she should not return. this is a program through the city of chino for 3 to 5 year olds. was not expecting her to becaome venus williams before she even played. other programs in the area look elsewhere read more

Johnny Allen Tennis Academy is the best bang for the buck for any tennis clinic, academy, recreational lessons around. I've been coaching for 10 years now and have worked for Johnny Allen. He teaches good technique and enforces it upon his coaches to do so as well. In the midst of all this, he also keeps his academy entertaining and a fun environment to learn in. I will only give one criticism which is for satellite and open players I would ONLY go to Johnny's Walnut location for serious game improvement. read more

What a disorganized company. Given that the office staff and Jonny himself is courteous and professional over the phone, the company just can not get their acts together. Too often, there is not enough coaches for the students, or the substitute coaches don't really teach the skills. U have to take the initiative to call the office to find out if the class is canceled due to poor weather condition, or if there is going to be a make up class. Disorganized. Disorganized. My daughter is the first in my family to play tennis and I could not have found a better tennis academy, not only that but this league he started is the only one that I had been able to find for beginners. Johnny has answered all of my questions and then some. The coaches have motivated my daughter to want to play high school tennis and I could not be happier with the program. read more

my 4 years old got scream at so loud by the coach on his last class, he woke up couple times in the middle of night crying. and this morning he made me promise him not to take him to practice again. he have been with the class for 2 sessions, so far, he didn't really gain any skill from the class, the coach is nice, but he kept letting my son and another kid (there were only 2 kids, 3 & 4 years old, in the class) play around whatever they want and then yesterday both kids went out of control throwing things around and one of the mark spot hit their coach. I know most of these type of class, the coach normally does not want parents to get involve during their teaching, but if you are planing to join the class with this particular coach, you have to get involve as there is no discipline teaching on the court and your kid might think he/she can do whatever they want until the coach gets mad and scream at them. read more

My son has been attending the Johnny Allen Tennis academy for over a year. I can honestly say that this is the best tennis program around. My son has been playing for about 3 years and has attended the Anaheim Tennis Center, The Rusty Miller Anaheim Hills Tennis Center, and Tennis Anyone in Chino. Johnny's program is much better structured, much better run, and the most reasonably priced of all these programs. Johnny is motivating and positive. He has a great relationship with his students and also has a great sense of humor. His instructors are very experienced and are great role models for kids.
