What a wonderful little store full of Middle Eastern goodies! Having just left from the Plum Market in the same shopping plaza, both Husband and I were curious to see what this ethnic store had. There is definitely A LOT of stuff! It wasn't until I left Babylon that I saw other Yelpers recommend their prepared foods. I had walked by their display case and saw their menu offerings, but didn't give it much thought. We were about to head out, but I think next time we're there, I'll definitely pick up a few treats. We were pleasantly surprised that this place has dried hibiscus flowers. I had been wanting to find some so that I could experiment in making my favorite Hibiscus Tea from Pilar's in AA at home, and lo and behold, this place carries it! Wow :) I was happy. While I was there, I also picked up some bulk spices, as I always find that you get so much more at a small ethnic store than a big mass retailer like Meijer or Kroger. You literally get double the amount for the same price or less! Anyhow, walking up and down the aisles we saw many products that my parents have shipped over to us from CA. Now we can officially tell them, "don't bother!" We can find them here. haha :) Herbal teas, bulk beans, cheeses, breads, packaged spice mix seasonings line the aisles, some fresh produce. Best of all, the family running this place is warm and inviting; they really make you feel like you're at home. Love that fuzzy feeling. Though I only walked out of here physically with some dried hibiscus flowers, split red lentils, and some bulk ground cumin, this place is definitely one that I'll come back to if I'm in the mood to prepare some Middle Eastern fare! And yes, next time, I will most certainly have to try their prepared foods. :) read more

The best Middle Eastern carryout places seem to never be in a typical restaurant setting. Rather they are in a gas station or in this case, nestled into the back of a small grocery store. Babylon TakeOut is what the purple flyer/menu says. We went with the Chicken Shawarma (their spelling) Plate and the Chicken Cream Chop Plate - each for $8.99. Included Hummus and Tabuli (their spelling). If you don't want Hummus/Tabuli, you can get Rice and Stew. Both come with Torshi which appeared to be pickled cabbage. Shawarma chicken was very moist. Both dishes tasty. Tabbouleh was very fresh with a hint of mint. Menu ranges from salads (fatush, greek, etc.) to sandwiches (falafel, kafta, etc.) to soups (lentil, etc.) to a whole lamb with rice ($180). Took 10 minutes or so from the time we placed our order until it was ready. In the meantime we browsed around the store looking at all of the interesting products. Next time, now that we have the menu, we can call ahead. Solid find. read more

It is a great great store. I love middle eastern food and will travel far for good hummus. Is it as good as Dearborn? Not quite. But it is great for the area. I love that you can buy a bag of pita for $1.50. Enough hummus for a week for $6. Falafel? 3 / $1. Feta by the pound. Bulk seeds and beans. I mean what more do you want? Oh a deli? Ok, there is that too. And outdoor seating. Now I just need to learn Arabic... Ask for extra garlic on the sandwiches - they don't put enough. read more

This is a great local market for middle eastern ethnic foods! Wide variety and excellent prices. The products are organized but this is a very crammed store with stuff stacked against every wall and window. The selection includes fresh baked pita breads, produce, canned goods, snacks & sweets, spices, grains, nuts, and much more. Many things are sold in bulk so you can weigh out what you need. The owner is a quiet man but very friendly and appreciative of his customers. read more

Lots of my favorite Middle Eastern stuff to choose from here, and a surprising selection in light of how small the space is - great prices, friendly staff, and it smells great when you walk in. There are bulk grains, legumes, herbs and spices, an olive bar (I don't like olives, so I can't say if it is good or bad), grape leaves, feta, labneh, hummus, and sesame treats that I can't get enough of. I have not tried the prepared foods, but may try next time. Oh, and such reasonable prices, and by reasonable I mean great prices. read more

Sometime produce isn't that great at Hiller's, Kroger or Meijer. Sometimes it's not that great at Babylon either, but that's when they've run out. Their parsley is ALWAYS fresh and delicious and the normal price is 59 cents a bunch, you can't imagine going back to another store. Especially since their bunches are like 3 bunches from Meijer. Their tomatoes, lemons and other produce really are quality, and it makes a difference when cooking certain Middle Eastern cuisines. Even if you're not up for all the prep work it may take, they also have the cheat packages for various dishes. They don't taste as good as mom's but, it's going to taste pretty great. The family who owns the store are kind and quick to serve. They even help you take your groceries to your car, which is helpful when you have 10 bags and a 40 lb bag of rice! read more

Perfect ethnic market! The nuts, olives, torchi and spices are abundant and varried here at Babylon Foods. I have been coming here for over ten years, and have never left without a few bags of goodies. The bread is beyond fresh, don't buy pita elsewhere! If you use canned chickpeas, tomato paste or fava beans, you will find the best prices here, so stock up. The baklava is yummy, so are the fun little imported candies. Babylon stocks some very fresh produce, locally grown. If they are in season, I reccomend highly the fresh dates- right on the vine! In addition to the market, Babylon has some of the finest carry out available. The chicken shwarma is unlike any other I have had. Rather than being wrapped in pita, they use what my ex boyfriend called "butter bread", and it is freaking amazing. I suggest getting the chicken shwarma sandwich with no lettuce or tomato, plus torchi, and a side of ranch. Its to die for. The staff here is awesome, they will gladly help you understand what things are if you are unsure, and assist you with spices, cheese etc... If you are wondering what on earth I would use fava beans for, here's a fun little recipe above mentioned ex's mama used to make us... Open a can of fava beans, reserve the liquid. Pour liquid into a pot, add a bit of water. Pop all the beans outta their shells, discard shells, add beans to liquid. Bring to a boil, boil a few minutes. Heat a little oil (canola is best) to very hot, pour beans and liquid into a bowl, rip up some pita into little pieces and drop onto beans, CAREFULLY pour super hot oil over the bread to "fry" the pieces. Eat.... Sooooo good! read more

When we were looking for catering for our wedding, Babylon was our favorite place. Although we ultimately chose a venue with self-contained catering, I'd highly recommend checking this place out if you're throwing a catered affair. They were extremely flexible, with a zillion dishes to choose from, veggie and non veggie. And to boot, they make one heck of lahmacun. Who would have thought? I have not tried their food, but sounds like I should. I typically stop in here after Plum market or a quick lunch at Olga's. Great selection of fresh spices, nice lentils and quality bulk rice. However, my favorite thing here is my favorite German Chocolate Candy!! The milk chocolate and white chocolate toy filled egg known as the Kinder Suprise egg or the Kinder Uberrachung Eier! I am a big kid at heart, and it fills me with joy everytime I find these....takes me right back to Deutschland. read more

My mom loves the shredded lamb that comes with the combo platter and my dad loves the fattoush salad. Everything here is delicious. I love their grape leaves, hummos, baba and tikka wraps. Bulk nuts, seeds, beans and more. Fresh produce and more. I was very surprised by this little market. Sure, I knew I would find all the yummy Middle Eastern spices and foods that would remind me of mom's kitchen, but the produce is some of the best and most inexpensive in town! Their herbs are very fresh and about 1/4 of the price charged by their neighbor, Plum Market. Be sure to try their breads - they are fresh, fluffy, and delicious! The staff is very friendly - they have helped me carry out groceries to my car when I was pregnant and later shopping with my little one. Love this place! read more

My family has been shopping here for as long as I can remember. I never thought I'd end up shopping here myself, but I married a Chaldean man who wants me to make Chaldean food all the time...lol. They have all the spices you need to make Middle Eastern/Chaldean food, as well as fresh bread, traditional candies and treats, and produce. The employees are knowledgeable about what spices to put in particular dishes and are very friendly. They started making meat/spinach pies, felafel, and other traditional foods that are made fresh to take home. I have also shopped the wall of traditional teas, kitchenware, and pots/pans. There are a lot of these types of places in Oak Park and in Sterling Heights, I'm glad we have one closer to home. I only wish they had more room to shop. The store is small and I usually have to excuse myself around people to navitage to the store. Otherwise it's my go-to for everything I need to make Middle Eastern food. read more

i dont even know where to start :) Babylon is the most cleanest and nicest Arabic store i have ever been too and to top it all the carryout is unexplainable so AMAZING and tasty. All the workers are very helpful and Appreciate all of there costumers and that is a plus plus. Theye carry all inds of Ethnicity foods and goods you cant beat that.
