HAVEN'T FOUND A HONEST AUTO SHOP YET ITS A SHAME! initially planned to have my motor mounts replaced at Johnny's Auto Repair, but I requested a inspection first to check the passenger side tire because it felt off shaky so I wanted to make sure it was safe and a comprehensive inspection to identify any additional repairs that could be addressed during the same service. While the vehicle was on the lift, the experience shifted from a routine service to a series of significant red flags. Deceptive Diagnostics: A service advisor named Jose showed me torn CV boots and torn boots on the struts. He then pointed to a groove on the inner face of the driver-side front rotor (the side closest to the engine) and pointed at the brake pads, claiming I required a complete brake replacement on all four wheels. As someone who replaced my front brakes less than a year ago and knows the condition of my vehicle, I could see clearly that the pads still had plenty of life and did not need replacement. Despite using the "damaged" rotor as his primary evidence for a massive repair bill, he never once mentioned replacing or resurfacing that specific rotor in his recommendation. It was a clear attempt at a predatory and unnecessary upsell. Documentation & Transparency Issues: I was told I needed a radiator cap, two front axles, all four struts, and full brakes. When I requested an itemized price list to review the cost of parts vs. labor for the $3,400 quote, I was handed a small, hand-torn scrap of paper itemized breakdown is unprofessional and fails to meet the transparency standards required by the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR). Between the deceptive "faulty" brake pads and the lack of proper documentation, I can only conclude that they thought I was a dumb person who knew nothing about cars because I am a women I can no longer trust this shop. I strongly advise anyone visiting this location to get a second opinion and demand a formal, written estimate before agreeing to any work. Shame on you Jose You came highly recommended. read more

I decided to use Johnny's Auto Repair because of proximity. Had new brakes put on my vehicle. The brakes made noise, so I returned with the vehicle. They fixed it. They, however, did not return the keys for the wheel locks. I looked for them throughout the vehicle, told the person in charge, the keys for the locks were not returned. He said he would look for them and get back to me. Of course, he never did, and he dismissed the entire episode. I was stuck having to purchase new keys. read more

When they called to pick up my truck , I HAD ZERO OIL PRESSURE !..!.!.! they told me I Must have blown my motor on way there dropping of my truck !! BULL CRAP !!! My oil pressure was fine !! I change my oil every 3 months . We baby that truck since I bought it off my buddy who was very meticulous when it came to suburban as i'am . How the hell am I going to blow my motor 1 mile from my house dropping off truck for rear main seal !!!?!! Then I asked , why did you take my oil Pan off when changing rear main seal ? THEY LIED SAYING I REQUESTED IT !! LIARS LIARS LIARS SCUM BAGS !.!..! I was supposed to be in Colorado for my job august 1 st !.!. I lost my job thanks to these rip offs !.!.!. It was funny when I got there to pick up my truck , all the mechanics were looking at me funny , they kept looking at ne as if they were guilty of something . I found this place through the dealership I had just bought a pre-owned car from when a transmission issue showed up a week after purchase. I'm very happy I did. They did a great job and I felt they were fully transparent with me and gave me a very fair deal. George was helpful and obviously knowledgeable. I described the issue (something called torque converter shudder) over the phone first and he confirmed it when he drove the car around Whittier as soon as I arrived. He described the issue and the uncertainties around this problem and what repair might be needed before giving me the estimate. What he said confirmed what I had heard from others I spoke with, and I knew they wouldn't be able to precisely diagnose the full problem before opening up the transmission. When they did, they found the bad torque converter and a few worn transmission clutch plates. George gave me the option to replace the clutch plates while they had the car open (big job just getting inside before any repairs or replacements can be done), and I felt he treated me fairly and honestly. I highly recommend this place for specialized transmission work. If I ever need a transmission rebuild, or a mysterious problem shows up that others can't diagnose, this is the only place I'll go. Like most people, it's not like me to leave a one star review. Now, I know the economy is in bad shape and businesses are having tough times, but Johnny's thoroughly ripped me off on my repair, and just have to give a little warning if you are planning to take your car here. Although I don't want to hurt any business, I have to say that I brought my car to this spot to get my car fixed, and while they did do some work, the work they did, did not last, and I was also overcharged. I had a 420 (and believe me the price to fix was high) and 430 error which is due to either a faulty catalytic converter or o2 sensor. To avoid replacing my costly catalytic converters (my car has 4), we replaced the o2 sensors first. I was charged over $800 for everything. In a matter of a couple months, the lights came back on. Sure, it might be something else. Now, I didn't mind paying the $800 if it were fixed, however, I overpaid for my o2 sensors, which did not last for even 2 months as the o2 sensor errors came right back on. And how do I know I overpaid? Well, I paid $800 just to replace the o2 sensors at Johnny's, while that's exactly the same price I paid to completely replace both catalytic converters at another muffler shop! The other muffler shop also repaired my o2 sensors, charging me $100 per o2 sensor, where at Johnny's, I paid double (for the back) to QUADRUPLE (for the front) the price vs what I paid at the other muffler shop! What more is that I was told that my o2 sensors would be replaced with factory ones, where after looking today were denso (non-factory) o2 sensors. The dishonesty comes in where I was told that I would be getting factory o2 sensors, where I got the cheaper generic ones, but still paid full price and some for factory ones! Needed a heater core replacement for my 96 4Runner. Everyone quoted me about $1300-1500. Jose took on the job and included a new evaporator core, heater core, new radiator hoses, and thermostat all out the door with labor for $1,050. What a heck of a deal. Before I took my truck in my coolant temp was between 207f-211f. Now I'm operating between 188f and 194f. This placed saved me money in the moment, and in the long run now that my overheating issue is resolved. I would highly recommend their services to anyone. They do have ALOT on their plate as far as work, so you might have to wait depending on how big the job is. Took a little over a week for them to get to my truck but it's a huge time consuming job so I was ok with them taking their time to get it right.
