We haven't been by in quite a while and a lot has changed. The interior is definitely upgraded. A new bigger bar area was added. The booths are much cozier. To start off with, we both ordered their side salads. They were tasty but for the price they were way too small. Next time, we would pass on the side salads. As a heads-up, they no longer offer their "Johnny Bread" with every meal. It does come with some specific meals. Otherwise, it's $1/loaf. The size of the bread is smaller, too. We then decided to order their large "Special Pizza" with the thin crust. I was great! All of the toppings were fresh and delicious. No complaints at all! Overall, we had a great lunch. I called in our order. My husband picked up, got home with the wrong order. Called, spoke with the woman who took my order. And I quote, yeah I just discovered the error and I was to bring back the food. I did return the salad and lasagna. Went in, told her to throw the food away that we opened it. I was given my money back and charged for my order. I seriously think they simply put the food back in the kitchen. They should have tossed it away in front of me. The food is always great, and I love the fact that it is not a chain. Everything I have ordered has always been wonderful, and the grouper is great! Staff is always friendly and the restaurant is always clean. The only thing that someone had an issue with was the level of heat in a dish, but they also chose for it to be hot, so that's on them. This was the first time I ever visited Johnny's Italian Restaurant. And felt very comfortable from the time I stepped in the building, after all how could I not with songs playing on the radio that I grew up with?! After looking at the menu with all the different options I decided to get the chicken and broccoli with Ziti. The waiter came by and took my order and immediately brought out two big rolls of bread, which I believe they call monkey bread, some dry pesto. I believe that it was not bought my attention that I needed to add my own olive oil that was sitting right there in front of me... Lol. And I also ordered the New England clam chowder! The clam chowder wasn't as creamy as I have had at other restaurants in the past, but it still had a really good flavor to it. When I received my main dish, it looked very attractive. The pasta was a near perfect al dente, the sauce that it was in had a very good taste to it however, I thought it was kind of watery. The chicken in the dish looked like it was too perfect to be hand cut. But it still had a good flavor to it and it's almost as if they added the chicken at the last minute. Was worried about the low rating of 3 stars and a half. After reading some I have to say my experience was far from it. The restaurant is beautiful, decorated in theme. Friday night, half busy I would say; got seated right away (party of 7). Service was fast and efficient, got drinks, bread, ordered dinner. Food came rather quick, specially for our big party. I wish this was my experience everywhere I went! The food was perfect, portions, temperature, dressing. The Soup was out of this world, my pasta was cooked perfectly and it had a deep flavor. I gotta say I've come here twice now and food is OK at best. I got the veal piccata with Alfredo and the veal was decent but the Alfredo...big yikes. It tasted like some watered down generic jar sauce slapped on some fettuccine, which is not what I expected paying the prices they were asking. When we walked in there on a Saturday place was pretty empty and felt dead inside which should've been telltale #1 but we ignored it in hopes to give the place another shot. Our server was very kind and polite, she was attentive to us and made sure we were good so I'll give the restaurant points for good friendly staff but for the food I would say skip it and save your money to not waste it like I did. read more

Not a great experience. Dinner around 5:30 and it wasn't busy. Was seated fairly quickly but then we waited over ten minutes before the wife went back to the hostess counter to explain that we had been passed by each server several times with not even a head nod. Someone finally came by and the Mrs. asked a question about a dish. The waitress left and returned with our drinks and asked if we needed anything. Why yes, the answer to the question that was asked. Finally got the answer and the order was placed. Salads came quickly, immediately followed by our hot appetizer and entrees. I was one bite into my salad and now all our hot food was on the table at the same time. Food was meh. We ate the salads and appetizers but decided to take our entrees to go since we had enough. Unfortunately, although highly regarded in the community, this experience fell short, was a waste of $70 and I'd never return. Nor did I end up eating anything other than a roll and the app. It was two of us, we had only water, split an appetizer and two meals. No dessert but wouldn't have stayed regardless. When asked how spicy the Fra D'avalo dish was, she said not too bad and suggested the "medium" choice of spiciness. Alas, the dish came and for me, it was the spiciest dish I've ever tasted and simply couldn't eat it. As an Italian New Yorker who orders this dish in many other places, I was taken aback by the end result. Then the waitress asked if I wanted anything else, I said grilled chicken with spaghetti plain -basically same dish minus the spicy sauce. Meanwhile, my 91 year old mother had finished her meal and I sat there and waited for an additional 20 minutes for a new dish in which the chicken was burnt and it was simply horrible. Other items such as the tossed salad was mainly yellow lettuce that seemed a week old, with half a tomato and two slices of cucumber. It truly was pathetic. My mom's eggplant was so smothered in cheese, she couldn't find the eggplant. And portions are unnecessarily large with servings equal to 4 persons. Then to be charged in full for such an admittedly disastrous event by the server ("this didn't go very well" ) was uncalled for and they could have comp'd the second dinner for the long delay. I still paid in full and tipped, but this restaurant needs an overhaul in the chef and service areas! (As well as replacing the tacky decor...) read more

Have loved Johnny's since the 90's. Never disappointed in the service. Food was excellent! We had the calamari appetizer which was awesome. And all three of our dinners were as expected. Fresh meats, savory sauces and just a warm welcoming atmosphere. Been too long since I've been there last. Need to change that, I'll be back next month when I get back in town. First time returned after quite a few years and simply not nearly as good as before, but only ordered one dinner, eggplant parmigiana. Came with soup or salad and maybe the soups were good, but the salad was pathetic. Tiny piece of tomato, very tiny single sliver of carrot, very small slice of cucumber, and the rest essentially lettuce, all served on a very small flat plate, so you could barely touch anything without something moving off the plate onto the table. Came with "Johnny Bread" served w/plate of herbs which you can pour oil over - I guess they'll give you butter if you ask, and the Johnny Bread not as good as I remembered. Eggplant parm was standard and a generous serving. Red sauce excellent. Price of $19. At U.S. 19 and Curlew is another Italian place that starts with the same letter J and their eggplant parm was $16 and came w/an excellent salad and garlic knots. I used to work from an office nearby, so Johnnys was a regular visit for my department. We were in the area for an appointment and my wife I decided to stop. A bit after the lunch hour, we were seated right away. We were brought menus and water and had already looked at the menu online, so we ordered right away. My wife picked the Chicken Parmesan and I chose the Lasagna. And we both had side salads. We were brought delicious rolls for olive oil dip. Quickly our salads came, fresh, chilled and tasty. Before we finished our salads, our meals came, piping hot. My wife said her Chicken Parmesan was perfect. Lasagna an was my old favorite and it did not disappoint. We were both so pleased with our meals that we did not share our food, as we normally do. Excellent service, excellent food, great ambiance. If you haven't tried Johnnys - what are you waiting for? All the food is really good, the service is fine to great. I have been going to Johnny's since he worked alone in his previous location.

Well, we went there on the recommendation of someone we thought knew good food. There was about seven of us at the table. When we walked into the restaurant, it was very old looking and a little moldy smelling to tell you the truth. Service was terrible, the waitress we had was very tired looking. But maybe she was having a bad day will give her that. The booth they gave us was very uncomfortable. This place needed a whole renovation. We ordered the food and we were anticipating a wonderful Italian dinner. Well, it was the worst dinner I've had in Florida and we all go out to eat all the time together. The pasta was mushy, the grilled fish seem to be poached. When we asked for more bread, it seems to be a big problem for this waitress. They also had a small bottle of oil on the table for dipping the bread. That was even bigger a problem that she should get us more oil. There wasn't one person at the table who liked the food. I would never recommend this restaurant. Obviously we cannot listen to the girl who told us it was wonderful..... We'll never go back there again. And we will never ever recommend this restaurant to anyone. They really should clean up their act...... read more

Best tiramisu in the city! It's not even close. The pizza here is consistently delicious and really hit the spot. Absolutely packed on a Monday night, but they were still able to seat us quickly. This was a cozy family friendly place. We were welcomed right as we walked the door with a sweet smile and a friendly hello. The staff were very helpful and made suggestions as we were making decisions on the menu. We ordered chicken parmesan with fettuccine Alfredo on the side with a side salad. It was very good. The price was very affordable and the portions were perfect for lunch. We will be back and I want to try a dessert next time. read more

It is 3pm on Christmas Eve and there is an older woman, long brown hair in a pony tail with glasses who has a New York accent at the front when you walk in. She was so mean to my grandpa, mom & myself that grandpa turned his walker to leave. she yelled at us for 5 minutes about having an extra person. Then she gave us a time limit because for some reason we couldn't add 1 extra seat. My parents come here often they've never been treated this horrible before it was not a good experience. Johnnys is a nice size restaurant and a full bar that serves Italian food. I had veal picotta and my wife stuffed eggplant. They serve entrees with pasta, albeit spaghetti fettuccine etc, There is a lot of food, coupled with a meatball appetizer, 4 meatballs and ricotta and mozzarella were very tasty. The prices were not bad and the service was attentive. I would recommend the place as your go to for decent Italian dishes. read more

We stopped in to Johnny's after the early games on Sunday. They had a bunch of TV's turned on to the 4:30 games so we could watch them too. We love the decorating and comfortable seating here. We came in with my daughter and her two girls and we were seated immediately at a large table. Our server brought our drinks and "Johhny Bread" which are large warm round rolls along with their garlic/cheese dipping mix. There is olive oil on each table to add to the mix so you can dip the bread. The kids love the Johnny bread and we made all 5 rolls disappear. The kids had pizza slices and fries. My wife had the lasagna which she liked. My daughter had the chicken broccoli ziti which she always gets here. I had the Stromboli which was huge and delicious. All 3 adults took home lunch for the next day. We love this place and will come back over and over. read more

Johnny's isn't too far from my family's place, so they order frequently. When I was visiting, we ordered delivery and stopped in to dine. It seems like they can get fairly busy--weekday lunch delivery took about an hour, despite being close, and crowds were just leaving around 9:00 p.m on a Saturday evening. For lunch, I ordered the eggplant parm sub and it was delicious. Super cheesy with perfectly toasted bread. And huge! I couldn't finish it. Dinner entrees come with bread and choice of soup or salad. The bread was OK but the salad did not look fresh, so I didn't eat it. I asked if could get their chicken, broccoli, ziti with a garlic oil sauce instead of alfredo, and they were able to do that. And the dish was good and garlicky. Very reminiscent of my favorite dish from back home, so I definitely appreciated it. Their website states "where you are treated like family" and you really are here. Our server was friendly and quick with the jokes. And it's a very welcoming, casual place.
