Please, please, please update your menu, add more item to the menu (it's SO limited), add baked French onion soup back onto the menu (so good!), add steaks and think about an add on lobster tail. This restaurant used to be hopping every time we went here. We visited 2 weeks ago on a Friday night at 7:00pm and we were the only customers. Beautiful restaurant but management needs to overhaul the menu and you'll get your customers back in no time. read more

I have been to Johnny's many times this year and today was the worst. No one greeted us at door nor sat us. Waitress finally came to table and I noticed menu was very different. She said that many items were taken off of menu- that was an understatement! some of our favorites like onion soup, choice of salads like a Cobb, and limited number of entrees like only 4! Food was served on a tray, not a plate that slid around on the table, very unappetizing. Waitress never stopped by to refill waters, see if we needed anything else and handed us the check! No asking about coffee or dessert! There was a 3% convenience tax added to bill too. It was a very disappointing meal compared to all of our other times there. Johnny's is our go to carry out place. It's also our go to dine in place. The wide variety on the menu means there's always something that looks good even if you don't know what you want. I've never had a bad meal from them. My favorite is anything Greek. The pizza is unique and delicious as well (nothing bland about it). To round it out, the cocktails are excellent and the service is wonderful, warm and welcoming. You should try them! read more

I was craving for a juicy burger so I decided to try Johnnys Snack Shop for the first time because I like to support small businesses in my neighborhood, I ordered two burgers with fries to go. On my way home I could smell them But when I got home and we started to eat them what a disappointment, dry buns, dry patties, no lettuce, no tomatoes or onion, good thing I had some coke to chase it down otherwise I would choke on it. We never heard of this place but decided to try this restaurant since there was a Facebook coupon for January birthdays (mine was yesterday January 27). When we arrived we were warmly greeted (found out later it was the owner) and seated to a nice table for our party of 6. I ordered 1 of the 3 free offers available for the birthday girl... 1/2 rack of baby back ribs. WOW...nice offering! We were asked if we wanted appetizers... I asked about the fried mushrooms.. "are the fresh Battered or frozen"? Pleasantly told.. FRESH!! YES!!!!!! Great start!!! The friendly waitress told us all their battered food are FRESHLY HAND DIPPED!!!.. WOW WOW WOW Our group ordered the baby back ribs, Tavern Fish Fry, chicken tenders & broasted chicken. All meals came with homemade soup, side (ohhhh they had TOTS.....YUMMY!!!!) and a vege (tonight was broccoli). The food was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! The ribs....omg....fall off the bone!!!! Sauce was yummy... not too sweet..perfectly spiced).,,We were all impressed with each other's meals, everyone was sharing tastes like we were at a food tasting...lol ... ALL of it was ABSOLUTELY delicious!!!!!!!!!!!! The ambiance is casual with a nice mix of different music not too loud. The waitress gave us a little history of this restaurant...all family owned...2nd generation All employees are family and or went to school together. That we give this place a try the food was actually pretty good when it was Johnny's char house. However, the food they actually might want to rethink some of the options on their menu. I had the gnocchi with spinach in a cream sauce. Needless to say, all I tasted was garlic and cream sauce. You could barely tell there was any.gnocchi in the dish at all. The people I was with, had the gyros and the meat was either soggy or burnt beyond recognition. I was sorely disappointed in the food, and sadly will not be going back. read more

Not sure what happened at Johnny's Snack shop but ordered pizza and it was not the same. The hot Honey pepperoni didn't have the same sweet and spicy as previous. Also wanted a Ham and Pineapple Pizza - the so called "Hawaiian", but was told they no longer carry Pineapple as a pizza ingredient. So we altered the toppings from our desired "Hawaiian " pizza. Regrettably, Both pizzas just were not that good. Not much sauce and the sauce that was on the pizza did not have any flavor. And the cheese.... It was dry, not moist and again , no flavor. After the pizza's cooled down, the pieces curled and tasted more like cardboard. Maybe some will like the new style pizza, but for us, we will search for another back up pizza place! read more

We had reservations here for Mothers Day. We were told on arrival that they were only serving brunch buffet. Not what we wanted but ok. When we went to get our food, they were out of bacon, sausage, eggs, french toast and many other items. Food that they had left was tasty but what little amount we had was not worth 40.00 per person. They did bring more food out later after we were done eating. Poor planning on their part. 2 stars is for nice new outdoor patio seating and what food we had was tasty. Overpriced though. I'm not sure what has happened, we use to love the chicken skewers, we ordered them all the time, and within just this past week, I picked up a To go order with the chicken skewers and a order of potato skins and both were awful. the skewers totally different and the potato skins were loaded potatoes, not skins at all. Spent $30+ on the order and would not of paid $10. We had to throw away the potato skins, and my dog had the chicken. Is this restaurant under new management or ownership? read more

I have been a waitress for 10 years so I normally hate to complain but this place really needs some work. If you aren't a regular there you will feel extremely out of place because their main focus were those customers over new ones. Also the lady couldn't handle the whole bar and all the tables in the bar so they should have had two people working the bar. We ordered our food & waited an hour, then they told us they were out of what we ordered then took another 30 minutes to get our food so we waited a total of an hour and a half to eat. On top of that our steaks were so rare which we did not order that temperature. Lastly, they put so much work into the outside looking nice and no attention to the inside. I hope they can work on this it was probably the worst experience I've ever had in my 26 years of life & I truly feel bad saying that but it can be a wake up call! read more

Service was pretty good but food was just ok. Waaaay too much tartar sauce for a sandwich and fries that sat too long should have been timed better to come out with piping hot broasted chicken. Chicken was good but Emil's in Grayslake still has THE best broasted chicken in the area. The bathroom: 2 out of 3 stalls were completely out of toilet paper and the 3rd stall didn't lock. 2 out of 3 stalls had overflowing garbage and the main garbage was overflowing (almost packed in there) as well. Got a call from the Antioch Police Department saying we hadn't paid for our to go order (ordered and paid through the toast app they offer for online ordering) and that we would be arrested if we did not pay again. Went there last night. A monte cristo a chicken souvlaki on pita, a meatball sub and a plate of chicken fettuccini with 2 onion soups and 2 glasses of wine. $108 bill for sub par food. $108 really? The meatball sub was inedible to say the least, has the texture of rubber as well as tasteless and was ordered with mozzerella but the cheese was nowhere to be found. The chicken souvlaki couldn't tell if it was good or not the sauce tasted like spoiled mayo and the fettuccini was flavorless. While the monte cristo was really good that didn't make up for the price. Even the onion soup while tasty was less than a cup for $7 for what they considered a bowl and not even browned on top. The waitress said they don't have a broiler. Not even a torch to brown it up with. We stopped coming here a few years ago when they changed owners and decided to give a try again now that they turned it back to a sit down restaurant. Not coming back. EVER. My daughter ordered chicken strips. You get 6 with fries and broccoli and soup. Looked very good. My husband ordered fish fry. All was gone so that was a good statement. $88 dollars later... This place is one of the worse restaurants I have been to in a long time. Extremely overpriced. Food is cheap. We ordered chopped salads. 90% iceberg lettuce. Burnt bacon bits. Mushy tomatoes and brown avocado. Not worth a $14 price tag. Sausage & peppers appetizer. $13 and we got 4 pieces of sausage. Not links mind you 4 pieces that didn't even add up to 1 link. It was in watered down salty sauce. Dessert. $8.50 for a piece of cheesecake that was 1. Stale & 2. Half the size of a store bought slice. The bread pudding was burnt and had an off smell. There is nothing redeeming from this restaurant. Over priced. Food I would be embarrassed to serve. Just not a good choice. read more

Had a wonderful breakfast alone on a Tuesday. Had the smoked salmon Benedict it was delicious! Wish I'd had gotten a picture of the beautiful presentation but it was so good I didn't get a chance! I think it might be in the new name "snack shop". I remember when it was a Johnny's Chophouse. White tablecloth's fine dining. Prices haven't changed, but the quality of the food and atmosphere are reflected in the name snack shop. If you order an entrée the salad is an up charge.. I was disappointed. If we were ever to go again, I would just get a simple wrap or a burger. I think for the entrées being roughly around $17.99 seems awfully high for what you get. Drinks were very expensive as well. $10-$12 seems high. read more

Wow, so happy it is busy for this great establishment! Came in tonight with such a great crowd. We ordered ahead for pick up. Food was fantastic and tasty. We had Chicken souvlaki was great, a Club sub with Da juice, a small pizza with sausage and mushrooms. The ingredients on the pizza are top quality and plenty of them. I live right down the road from Johnnys. Have regularly ordered take out since covid as I want to support local business. I am very upset as I ordered tonight and when I picked up the order it was in one paper shopping bag. Didn't really think about it but the order was $67 worth of food and when I got out of my car the bag split in half and my order was all over the driveway. I called to let them know what happened and the girl said she was sorry. I was so upset I did not want to argue about it, but no more Johnnys for us!!! read more

We picked up a few burgers the other day for a carry out order and were really surprised how delicious everything was. The toppings on the burgers were great, the buns were great vessels for the loaded burgers, and the fries were almost perfection. They also came with soup, and the soup was fantastic! Had no idea this place had such good food. We didn't eat at the establishment, but it looked very cool inside and it seemed like they had a great patio. The person who rang me up for my order was very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend you try a burger here, I will have to go back to try some of their other menu items. Yesterday was National Pizza Day! We love Johnny's pizza and decided to celebrate with pizza. We ordered a medium pizza with sausage, mushrooms and green peppers. The pizza was served piping hot with plenty of toppings. Their sausage is by far the best! Plenty of cheese too. Jen, the bartender was great and sense of humor behind the bar is appreciated by all the guests. If you haven't tried the food here, you are missing out! read more

This new concept is horrid. What a cold unfriendly place. I understand that limiting contact is important. But this is not longer a restaurant. It is a fast food plac3 where you place your order at a counter and pick up when ready. I will go to McFonalds if I want that low level of service. They also advertise that they serve breakfast. But if you want breakfast better get there before 10am. So not an option for anyone who wants to sleep in on the weekend and then go out for breakfast. read more

We saw an advertisement for Johnny's so we decided to try it. With the food quality and the price we won't be back. We ordered the battered mushrooms, mozzarella sticks and large Tavern Style pizza for pick up. The only positive point to the experience was the staff. Those we interacted with were very professional. The pizza was okay when we got home and it was still hot, but reheated it was terrible. The oregano was heavy in a few places and non-existent in others. This combined with the indescribable after tast made the crust or cheese made it unpalatable. We ate only 4 pieces and had to throw the rest out. The mushrooms and Mozzarella sticks you can buy in the frozen section are better. The both had a lot of liquid under the breading, presumably oil. We cut open a Mozzarella stick and there was liquid coming out of the cheese itself. The marinara sauce that came with the order was one of the better marinara we have had from a pizza resturant. When are in the area again we won't be returning, we will stick to Antioch Pizza. read more
