Honestly would have probably given a 3.5 rating. The interior has that look like the company hasn't made any updates in quite a while. We got there just before our waitress got cut, you could tell she knew it was going to happen and was kind of indifferent about serving us. The waitress that took over had several table and never really check on us. Several of us could have used a refill on drinks. I've been to Tanners on 66th and Silverheel several times with both good and not-so-good experiences. Wanted to try this location as it's is closer to where we are moving. My first impression was, wow, this place is a little smaller but alot nicer. Our server was friendly and took good care of us without checking too frequently. The onion rings were cooked perfectly while the chicken tenders (chicken lips as Tanner's calls them) were a little dry. But they were still tasty and satisfying. Our server was very attentive and friendly. We are new to the area but Chris has been in other Tanner's locations so he recommended that we try it here. The place has a lively vibe, but it being a beautiful day that we opted to seat out in the patio. The food was good. We had Spinach Artichoke Dip for appetizer. This is the second time I have come here and left heated. Today I came in and they had three servers for a full house. My waiter (Devin) was struggling to keep up, doing his best to bounce around and keep everyone happy. Even with that it was slow service and we ended up missing food that we waited and asked for multiple times over the two hours we were there. It never showed up due to some kind of excuse. I could see he was doing his best, but you know who wasn't? The manager, seemed like he wasnt doing anything. I saw our waiter talk to the manger expressing how our table was upset about quite a few things. What did he do? Nothing, he waved it off and went to the back. Didn't step up and help his staff, come check on up, apologize for any feelings or inconvenience we felt. Just a bump on a log. It got to a point I asked Devin to get the manager and what does the manger do? Come out and talk to other tables passing us up and goes to the back confused as to where we were. I guess he finally put his eyeballs in his head and saw us sitting exactly where the server pointed to us three times. Finally get the manager over to us and I express my disappointment in his lack of caring if people are upset and how his server is working his butt off and he doing nothing other than standing in the back. What was his response? 'What do you want me to do about it?' I responded heated telling him to be a manager? be a team player? help your team? apologize when your customers are upset? What was his response to that you may ask? 'Sorry you feel that way.' I respond, 'yea, me too', he says 'okay' and walks away. The waitress came over as she was sitting in the dining room and I didn't actually no she was a waitress. I asked about the specials and she did go over the Tuesday taco special, I felt a little rushed but I did place my order for the nachos and my husband got the taco special. I noticed that after she rang our food back she went back to sitting In dining area with her friend. I enjoyed the food, it was pretty good, the service was lacking attention and was very different, seems wait staff would be up and ready to help not sitting and visiting. Tanner's is a chain Sports Bar, and all the locations offer the same food and similar levels of service. But this location is my go-to, primarily because of the gigantic and beautiful big projection TV screen that hangs on the wall at the far end of the main dining area. If you want to watch a game while you're out with friends or having dinner, there simply isn't any place in Kansas City that I'm aware of that is more enjoyable. If you aren't interested in the main game that evening (usually the Chiefs, Royals, or Jayhawks on most nights) then simply turn to one of the other multitude of regular size flat screens that ring the walls in the upper and lower seating areas. Many other sports bars feature TVs with faded screens or less than perfect images. Not this place - every TV looks great. But I don't only frequent Tanner's for the TVs, although that is reason enough. I really enjoy the food too. We almost always start out with a bowl of white queso, but their pretzels and cheese dip and other appetizers are good too. Pork tenderloins are famous in the Midwest and Tanner's version doesn't disappoint. I was recently surprised when I ordered a plate of tacos. A sports bar isn't the type of place where I would usually order Mexican food, but I was in the mood so I threw caution to the wind. The tacos were good, but they didn't really taste like "restaurant tacos." I found the tacos to be almost exactly like what I would make at home, well actually more like what my wife would make at home because she makes them much better than me. Tanner's is famous for their wings and "chicken lips" which are basically chicken tenders. Be sure to try them fried, flavored, and charred - they're delicious that way. I was also surprised by the strip steak sandwich I had recently. Once again, this isn't something I would normally order in a Sports bar (I usually stick with burgers, nachos, and chicken wings), but I was in the mood so I gave it a shot. You definitely won't mistake their strip for one at an expensive steakhouse, but for $12.49 it was really really good - cooked just right, tender meat, with those criss-cross grill marks that make it look like the cook really knows what he's doing. And don't forget the salads, they're good too! My wife and I often eat here on our way home from Chiefs games or to watch the Royals play while we have dinner on a Summer evening. But I like this place enough we'll probably start coming here even when there isn't a game to watch. And that's probably the nicest compliment you can pay to a sports bar. read more

Came into Tanners on a nice hot July day. Ordered a couple draft beers with my wife, they came out hot and in a plastic cup. Asked the waitress about getting a cold beer in a glass that beer is supposed to come instead of the warm beer I was brought. Was offered a cold glass to pour my warm beer into to "hopefully" help. Tanners is well known bar located in Lanexa, KS. They have in door bar, high top and outdoor seating. I really didn't have a choice when picking a place to eat this night but I'm glad we stopped by. This is absolutely a sports atmosphere bar; don't worry they have televisions everywhere in this place. There's no bad seat in the house to watch a game, fight or news. I was super impressed with their Chicken Lips... Yes, I said Chicken lips. Its chicken that's seasoned to perfection (at least ours was good). Besides that we enjoyed the meat and cheese platter, steak sandwich, house salad and chicken wraps. I know Ill be back in KC either for business or pleasure so.... At the end of the day... This Tanners is not ready for prime time. I'm breaking from my usual stylistic convention since this review encompasses numerous things warranting the one star rating. The customer service here was atrocious. Our server Jenny was slow, inattentive, aloof, and at times arrogant. When trying to order drinks or food we consistently had to wait at least 15 minutes before seeing her again. By the time we finally got our food the fare proved disappointing. The southwest egg rolls in particular came in a tiny portion ($9.49) and were no better than the ones Chili's serves. Later in the evening Jenny said we had to pipe down because of a customer complaint and that this was a "family restaurant". When asked for the details of the complaint her response was, "It's not my business." Not too long afterwards we were discussing the absurdity of the baseless complaint when Jenny interrupted with, "Are you guys talking about me? You know what. You just need to leave." We once again tried to push back about the nature of the complaint, but she brushed it off by saying, "All I know is we got you on video." Okay great. Show us the video footage supporting your claim. Lo and behold, Jenny couldn't produce it (yeah, what a shocker /s). I don't know where the management was during all this, but they clearly have poor standards. They're willing to allow 20-year-old know-it-all servers represent their establishment. Given previous reviews lamenting poor service, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the standard they are willing to accept. read more

On Saturday 2/25/2023 my family reserved the big room at Tanner's Bar and Grill at 13350 College Blvd in Lenexa, Ks. It was a Birthday party with about 70 people. We had 2 platters of Chicken Lips, 2 cold cut slider trays and a veggie tray that the bar prepared. Everyone had a wonderful time and Tanner's staff had all the tables marked as reserved for our group from 1-4. We could not have asked for better service. Our waitress Tori L. was wonderful. I felt like I ordered a drink and when I turned around Tori was handing it to me. No one had to go to the bar to order a drink because Tori was amazing. Also, the food was great. We've ordered takeout here a quite a few times, but I don't love it. The rest of my family don't seem to mind the food that much, but what I've ordered never had me seeking it out. The burger seemed dry, but the fries are nicely seasoned. The only menu item here that I've found to somewhat enjoy is their Burnt End Mac & Cheese. So the service and food was great...until my check came. By Bill was a little less then $18. I need to break a $10 for a tip so I gave her $30. When she brought it back she said something about what she giving me back $7 and I didn't catch the rest since I was in the middle of a conversation. I counted my money and it was $7. So I figured 30-18-7=5. So I figured she said something about keeping $5 since my friend gave her that for his. I was a regular customer here for about a year. Till recently, I came in to have a few drinks then I was going somewhere else. The bartender lady kept telling me to stop talking to a guy that I really liked. He wasn't at the bar it was someone who I was friends with outside of the bar. Then she told me not to go to Club Skin. She told me I would get hurt. I ended up getting hurt pretty badly either way. I'm not sure if she was trying to help or just get me to drink more and spend more money. They knew I didn't have that many friends there. My advice, is don't listen to bartenders. Wasn't particularly impressed by this latest addition to the Tanner's chain. Which is too bad; it's quite close to my home & would be nice to have as a local hangout. The interior has been revamped from the prior establishment -- the bar is on the left, and the back rooms have been opened up for a much airier feeling. Bartenders are friendly. Sadly, the food isn't very good. My nacho plate (Tuesday special) consisted of some sad, stale tortilla chips covered with bland nacho cheese sauce and some watery chicken. Throw on some diced tomatoes & scallions, sprinkle with some shredded cheddar & a tiny dollop of sour cream, serve lukewarm. The cheese wasn't even melted, so I'm pretty sure it never saw the broiler. The chips, which weren't crunchy to begin with, just got soggier as I tried to work through it. There was plenty, but I punted halfway through. I'll try them again, because they might still be fine-tuning this new location. But I'll pass on the nachos. read more

If I could give Tanner's a higher rating the 5*, I'd do it without question. I just came back here from Seattle after 17 years to help out with both my parents being terminally ill, and got to hang out with mom after visiting my dad in a hospice. Once we got there we didn't realize there was music bingo playing, which was no big deal because that was a regular night. Each server/employee was so polite and extremely attentive. Especially our server Jenny who was more than accommodating to allow us to move to a slightly quieter area to continue to enjoy our meal and couldn't have been a more pleasant individual. While the servers are nice, they were not attentive. The server/staff spent most of their time with the 2 or 3 other customers who appeared to be regulars at the bar. The server ignored us and took a long time to provide service. The fries were absolutely delicious, but the chicken sandwich was dry and bland. I'm torn about how to rate this Tanner's. I like the look and atmosphere of this location. The food is good, however the cooks don't seem to know how to cook a burger to medium temperature. I've tried their burgers 4 times now and only once when I specially spoke with the manager about the burger doneness, did it come out correct. The service, however, leaves something to be desired. I've dined in three times, carried out twice and the customer service has been subpar. The servers have complained about being tired, not wanting to be at work, and just aren't that friendly. As a former server, it goes against my grain to not leave a 20% tip, but I don't feel that any server has earned a full tip. read more
