A week ago I took my car and to have some work done cuz my all-wheel drive light would not stay on. They called me that evening and said it needed new battery. Never heard from him again till Friday when I called and asked if my car was ready and they said yes it had been. And I wouldn't be able to pick it up until after they close. So I paid for it over the phone when I got in my car after I started it. First thing I did was push the all-wheel drive button. It didn't work. It just went out. So I left a review and I left the voicemail the following Monday. Kevin called me and said that they would like to make it right with me including giving me a loaner but they didn't have one right now. As soon as they got one they would make it right for me. For my 100th review, this place deserved it. Took my truck here with a weird rolling clunking noise. I was able to get in the same day. Brenan was great to work with. I was able to get a shuttle/loaner car while it was at the shop. This was much appreciated as I could go back to work. They called back and let me know the tire was loose and that was it! I recently had a tire rotation at a tire shop and they definitely did not torque it to specs. Back to the shop, grab the truck. I work near John's Auto and pass by it on my way home every day. First thing I've noticed Is that they stay pretty busy, which initially convinced me that they must do good work. But they're never too busy that they can't fit you in. I know this from experience. I was on my way home from work about to get on the freeway and my '15 Silverado went into limp mode with a check engine light. I was able to nurse it back towards work, and I figured I'd stop at John's for a consultation. As soon as I walked in the door, I was offered help and one of the gents there grabbed a code reader. We went out to my truck, pulled the code, and he went to work researching what might be wrong. We quickly came to a conclusion that seemed viable. And I agreed to a price, and handed them my keys. I was told they'd expedite the part and have it done next day. Next day they ran a diagnostic only to find out that our original suspicions were a little off. The problem Ended up being a freak niche situation from aftermarket parts. Brendan took care of me, practically gave away his time... and made me feel valued as not just a customer, but as a human being. I was just pulling out of the parking lot, feeling so blessed by my entire experience, and I see Brendan sprinting into the street to get me something I had left sitting on the counter. Talk about service. These guys are hard working, humble, honest, gentlemen. I will 110% be back when my vehicle needs any work done. read more

Had the best auto experience to date. As a human who doesn't know much about cars I am always worried I am being led astray or told I need to do this or that when I don't need to. I just want to mention first, that when your car has been inspected you will receive a text message with a link that will take you to the diagnoses of your car, maintains that May be required or recommended (obviously call for further information). It is set up in an organized fashion that lets you see the maintenance priorities and also by each area of the vehicle. Pictures they have taken of this said part that will need maintenance will be posted and information will be given about what's going on and what they recommend to happen. I thought this was super awesome. I liked that I could look over my cars issues and figure out high priority items and in my case, take it all in lol. I dealt with Kevin from start to finish and really felt that he listened to me and provided me with solid advice about everything going on. I felt he was honest and very personable. On a road trip from California, having issues with what I thought was a wheel out of balance, went to see Kevin at John's Auto Care. After examination, found tire damage on three of the four Kelly tires. Having squeezed me in a busy appointment schedule, they were very accommodating and fixed me right up with four new feet and an alignment in about 3 hours. Great service and a quality job. Bought a new car, brought in for a safety check; and to see if anything is wrong with it (after buying this car from Instant Equity-another bad place-to buy a less-than-cool car). I recently had a problem with my car driving home from work, so as a repair partner for Carmax, I took the car to John's Auto Care for repairs that had to do with a fuel injector gone bad. This was confirmed by Carmax by a few mechanic who ran the codes, but couldn't do the work at that time. The people at John's Auto Care were friendly, professional and prompt. The car was ready in 2 days and they updated me every day. The car is driving perfectly!! read more

My son just moved to Idaho and he needed a repair on his vehicle. We have the best mechanic in San Diego but knew nothing in Idaho so I was worried that I just randomly chose from google. I'm glad I did because they got me in right away and had my repair done the next day. I scheduled an appointment to have my brakes checked. The appointment was at 9:00am, and I dropped the car off at 8:00am and headed across the street to Starbucks. I recieved a call at 10:00am asking what I wanted them to check. I reminded them that it was for my brakes. 1:00pm rolls around and I stopped by check (I was still across the street at Starbucks), and they didn't have it in the shop yet. The excuse was "we had a busy morning". I ended up just taking my car back. It would have been nice to get a call from them between 10:00am and 1:00pm explain the delay and asking me if I wanted to reschedule. Huge waste of my time, won't be going to them again. read more

I brought my car into this shop, hoping to find a professional auto repair shop that cares about me as a customer and demonstrates all the markings of an honest business. Johns Auto Care did not disappoint. They took me at the appointed time, completed the service in a timely manner, did not try to upsell me, and made sure the care came back to me in good order, all in a pleasant helpful manner. I needed my a/c vacuumed and recharged, all the other shops I called were booked out and only offered a refrigerant "top off". When I called Johns they told me they would do a full vacuum, leak test, and charge and could have it done THE SAME DAY. If I could give John's Auto Care a negative review, I would. I had the same experience years ago when I used to take my vehicle to John's that Alicia M. reported. My supposedly worn-out vehicle was on its last leg and was in such a poor condition that it would only be suitable to be sold as salvage. I was also referred to Kendall Ford by the crooked gentleman who professed to be a Christian, and because of that fact, I could trust him. My message to the abominable "Christian" crook at Johns is that I'm still driving my trustworthy vehicle to this day. My warning to potential customers of this dishonest, crooked business, would be to stay away. read more

BEWARE of this place and its "3 Year 36,000 Mile Warranty" on work they perform on your car. They charged me to fix an issue on my truck and 6 weeks later the same issue arose. They wouldn't honor the warranty and wanted to charge me again for the issue they clearly didn't fix the first time. I had to take it to another shop who fixed the problem by replacing a simple part, which Johns should have done the first time. Bottom line John's cost me a ton of money and will never get my business again. read more

This was an awful experience. I was passing through town on a cross country trip and I knew my front bearings and drive axles were on their way out, so I decided to get them fixed before the last leg of my trip. Went into John's and spoke with an employee who hoisted up my car and proceeded to point out to me every thing that was wrong with my 2002 subaru outback. I was polite and understood there are common issues with aging cars, but nothing I thought needed my dire attention to make it home. So I asked him for a quote for only the things I asked to be repaired and he quoted me double the price compared to my original quote from another mechanic two days ago. To top it off, he told my that my car needed thousands and thousands of dollars of repairs and - better yet - he knew a guy over at Kendall Ford that could get me into a new car and I can trade in my train-wreck. This place is a disgrace to mechanic's reputation all over the nation. There are honest hard working mechanics out there they just have to be found and this place does not employ them. Needless to say I left that place clenching my wallet as quickly as possible. I ended up at a locally owned shop and will shamelessly plug them here - go to Northwest Auto Repair in Boise. He is sensitive to the fact that people are taken advantage of in this industry. Just stay away from John's. read more

I can't give them a no star review. Will not recommend them or go back to them ever. First off, over a hundred dollars for a regular, synthetic oil change. Must be some pretty good stuff to cost as much as it did. They treated my wife horribly. We also had an issue with our car airbag sensor. It kept flickering off and on and they charged us 430 dollars to run electrical diagnostics on it. To plug a computer into the car and wait for it to tell them what's wrong. Then after the computer running diagnostics, they said that initially they couldn't find out what was wrong. I should have done to my neighbor, he would have hooked up diagnostic computer for 50 bucks. Well, that's my fault for trying to support local business. I can tell you what's wrong, the airbag sensor in the passenger seat is not working. How do I know that, because when I sit in the seat the airbag sensor on the dash says there is an issue. However, while running the diagnostic, they did say that there was something wrong in the door and they needed to take it apart hoping it mightd fix the problem. After telling us they fixed whatever the problem was in the door, and charged us over 900 for everything, it was still not working. We set another appointment to have them look at the issue they said they fixed. They told us on the phone they would do it for free since they didn't fix it and we have a 3 year warranty in parts and labor. When my wife showed up, they told her it would take another two hours to run diagnostics and once they figured out what was wrong they would let her know how much it would cost. Mind you, she was told they would fix it for free. We were specific in what needed looked at and it took them two hours to still not even get any closer than they were before. My wife showed up to the place after the two hours and just took the car. Let's hope it doesn't cause a problem, because it's the airbags I am concerned. If something does happen, I know where I am going. read more

Excellent service, friendly guys. I was in there this week for a battery change on my Audi. I had called my normal Audi mechanic who couldn't get me in for a week (what? A week?) Called around to about 6 other places, who transferred me and made me leave messages (to which I haven't received a call back YET from). My husband called John's Auto Care. We got a LIVE PERSON on the phone. They stated they too were pretty busy but to bring the car in and they would try to squeeze us in. Within 1 hour of showing up I had a new battery installed, friendly people to chat with and my car was as good as new. You want old fashioned ACTUAL service? Take your car here. read more

The guys at the desk, particularly Brenden, excellent. We took our truck in for a tune-up last summer in order to get it ready for our vacation. They found extra repairs were needed. After $2600 worth of work, we got our truck back. Not long after our trip, the truck began to run rough and surge while cruising. After taking it to another repair shop, the distributor cap was found to be 22 degrees off. They had also installed the wrong replacement radiator cap which caused air in our radiator. I'll never go back to John's. Love the guys up front, but the mechanic who worked on our truck messed it up. No more. My new mechanic is a professional. Sorry John's. read more

This is one of my favourite places in Boise now! After endless days of suffering through blistering heat and scorching Summer afternoons as I willfully ignored the warning signs in my vehicle's air conditioner, things finally came to a head when it started making pathetic grindy noises at the merest suggestion of being used. Reluctantly, I set out to seek outside help. I've never had a positive experience with any car repair shop, and only my staggering mechanical ineptitude kept me from stubbornly attempting to use shaky YouTube videos and sketchy parts ordered off Amazon to do it myself. (Though I did give it a cursory try- car repair forums seemed to think it could be my timing belt. Or my air compressor. Or my blower motor. Or a bearing. WebMD suggested cancer. The Interblags were not my friend at this point.) I hoofed it over to Google in search of anyone licensed to touch a car that didn't have threats of death, dismemberment, or arson posted by discontented customers on their review page. John's Auto Care was my only hope in the Treasure Valley. When I called to ask when they would have time to look at it and how much it would cost, I got the surprising answer of "Now, and free." SOLD! I sped as fast as I could there-- not for need of arriving quickly, but more for desire to not die of heatstroke on the drive over. Clint met me in the parking lot before I even got out of the car. He was friendly and entertaining, and within five minutes had the problem completely fixed. Turns out, there's a filter in the air distribution system, and that filter doesn't operate well when it's firmly encased in a hard shell of fall leaves. Which begs the question, how did so many dead leaves get there in the middle of Summer? I postulate that the filter is going through a mid-life crisis, and has decided to turn into a butterfly by constructing its own cocoon of organic matter. But these deeper questions are perhaps better left to be pondered by philosophers. Once my happy rejoicings were completed, I tried to pay Clint for his time and expertise, and he refused it. I'm not sure what the going rate is for paying in web reviews instead of USD, but I'm hoping this satisfies it. (I'm also hoping there's no character limit on this review box, but that's not relevant to the review of the company.) TL;DR Give this place your money, if you can get them to take it. read more

These guys are AWESOME!! Was on my way from Salt Lake to Seattle and an annoying problem came up with muy BMW. It is an easy fix that I have done several times in my driveway, but it requires ramps and taking the belly pan off. I stopped at John's and explained my problem and that my family was waiting at the motel to get back on our way. They pulled my car right it, put it on the lift and fixer the problem. Total time in and out was10 minutes. Here is the kicker.... Mechanic said it was too short of a time to bill and to have a save drive. read more

While towing a 21' trailer on vacation to Meridian in the recent record-setting heat, my 2002 Expedition started experiencing a loss of engine power when taking off from any stop. No engine lights ever came on, and this odd condition would only happen after the engine was warmed up, towing the trailer, and the outside temperature was over 95 F. Knowing that this type of intermittent problem IS and can be an expensive one, the assistant manager, Kevin, said they try to diagnose the problem for a minimum charge of $100. He called back a few hours later to say they could not find anything wrong, no codes showed up with the diagnostic equipment, and that the tech had spent well over an hour on it. And then apologized for having to even charge me half ($50.00) as they could not find anything to fix. I'm from out-of-state, and this is good, honest automotive service above and beyond what one normally expects to get and I would not hesitate to recommend them - thus I am writing this review. I cannot express enough gratitude towards this family owned service shop that got us back on the road so quickly. We had serious issues with our truck as we were heading back to Canada from a 4,000 mile trip. On Sunday we limped it into our campsite in Meridian, ID and noticed John's Auto Care on the corner. In desperation I left a voicemail and did an online appointment request as well. Even though they were closed being a Sunday, that same evening I received confirmation of our appointment for the next morning at 7:30 am. We were met by the friendliest, most understanding staff who kept us apprised of the progress by text, which linked to a constantly updating form/page. We got our truck back before 4:00 pm the same day, with a fully detailed invoice and a personal discussion with the mechanic who worked on our truck. The invoice was reasonable and the peace of mind when we left was second to none. read more

This repair shop quoted me $125 just to look at it through a scanner. Since apparently it's an OBD1. They were not any help and referred me to another mechanical shop. This place will also sap the money out of you. I can think of a few places that will do this around town. Shame read more

Setting: I have mechanical background, just not shop or time to fix the problem. I know when I am being taken for a ride, or at least my pocket book. I am from out of town, I thought I had burnt up my Cat. Converter, but was not sure that was the root cause or the fuel pump. I dropped off my vehicle, I was told about a $95 diagnosis fee and I left. I was called a few hours later and was told that the converter needed to be replaced with both O2 sensors, as well as a complete tuneup due to the fact the computer kicked out some misfire codes. First of all, due to the plugged converter, this increases back pressure on the engine and will cause a slight misfire. They never told me that the symptoms would possibly go away after the root of the problem (the converter) was replaced. The parts would take 3 days to get in, and a day to complete the repair. Diagnosis results: Clint (John's Service Manager) wanted to replace the converter, 2 O2 sensors, 6 coils with wires and plugs, and diagnose the transmission due to some codes as well, all for the sum of around $2800. WOW!!! I asked how much it would cost to replace the converter only, and Clint had to call me back with a price of $1600. Still...WOW!!! Way to much to pay for an exhaust issue. I came and picked up the vehicle, paid the $95. I took the vehicle to Meineke Auto Center, and had the converter and O2 sensors replaced that afternoon for $532, and I had my vehicle back that same day. Results: Vehicle runs great. With a replaced converter I have engine power I have not felt for some time. Been driving the vehicle for 2 days and 200 miles and no codes have come up. Engine has not misfired and transmission shifts fine. I spent a total of $627, and am on the road again. John's will not get any of my business. I am posting this because I feel that I they were taking advantage of me because I was: 1. Out of Town 2. Needed the vehicle in 2 days Who knows how much extra it would have cost if I was a female traveling alone. GET A SECOND OPINION BEFORE USING JOHN'S CAR CARE FOR REPAIRS. NORMAL DIAGNOSIS FEES SHOULD BE NO MORE THAN $100. THEN SHOP AROUND. Happy Traveling read more

I've known John Biss for a long time and he is one of the most honest guys I've ever dealt with. If you actually read all of his online reviews (49 Google Reviews with a 4.2 rating) and almost 1 thousand third party reviews from his actual customers which you can find online you will see what I'm talking about. I'm not sure what the negative reviewer was referring to but it looks as if she had a horrible time in Meridian because both of her reviews while there were bashing local businesses. Our experience at John's Auto was simply the best. We were in the middle of a cross country trip and in need of a smart, accurate and quick (and reasonable) diagnosis of our vehicle's trouble. Kevin at John's Auto Care was incredibly professional, kind, and so helpful. Their space (including their restrooms!) was really clean and inviting. They let us keep our travel trailer which we were hauling, in their lot for several days as we figured out our best options for moving forward with our trip. Don't go to these guys. Took my truck in for an oil change and they said I need both brakes front and back replaced. $1000 worth. They also said I needed a new radiator since it was leaking another $1000 repair. They were the ones that changed my antifreeze last the last time I took it in. I asked them why they didn't see the leak then. I also asked them to look at my brakes last time and they said the brakes were fine. Now they want me to replace both front and back brakes. I went in and asked them to show me where my brakes needed changed and he said after talking with his lead mechanic that only the front needs changed. These guys are ripoffs. They try to charge you for work you don't need. Stay away from these guys and save your money. read more

Have never been back, would not recommend this place to anyone, call around and get a second opinion, most places do same quality work for a lot less! Buyers Beware!! Get a second opinion..... John's quoted over $2400 to fix the problem our car was having. We got a second opinion at another shop and they found only 1 small problem. They fixed the problem and we were out of there for less than $100 including their diagnostic fee. Items that John's Auto Car said we needed to replace (such as leaking oil pump and leaking water pump) were not leaking and in were in good working order. The car has been running fine ever since the other shop fixed the small problem. Because of the faulty information provided by John's Auto Car, we almost paid $2400 to repair parts that were in good working order. Yikes! read more

If I could give these criminals negative stars, I would. I had the same experience as Alicia M. a few years back. The service guy who attended to my vehicle claimed to be a "Christian," so I was immediately supposed to trust him. Well, for me, that's an immediate red flag to say the least. He told me that he wouldn't even work on my 4Runner because it was toast and sent me up to Kendall Ford to look for a new vehicle. Well, I wasn't quite that big of a sucker, and I'm still driving my 4Runner to this day. Don't ever trust the dude that tells you he's a Christian at John's Auto Care or Kendall Ford. This message is not meant to disparage Christians because I am not interested in establishing anyone's religious beliefs at an automotive shop. I just want an honest job done without a bunch of manipulative nonsense to con me into purchasing a new vehicle. Sorry John's, I'll never be back, and I've told everyone who will listen to me about this. I've known John for decades and have found him to be as good as they get. I've had all kinds of repairs done over the years and NOTHING has ever been anything but first rate. He pays his mechanics well providing they do the job right the first time so you seldom see something come back to be re-done. I am certain that several of these comments left in the past have been purely made up, especially the ones from out of the area. Facebook courage is easy to strut but I'm sure they would have none face-to-face. Once my brother came through in his motor home, broke down and, even on a weekend, John and one other mechanic came over and got Bruce back on the road in no time. Bruce was stunned and swore he'd treat folks he saw broken down on the side of the road a lot better once he'd experienced John's kind of Idaho courtesy, hospitality and professionalism. Bruce also fancies himself something of a mechanic and was more than surprised when John told him the repairs were different than he'd imagined and for a lot less than Bruce planned on spending. But, for the cheapskates and whiners who are complaining about John's pricing just understand this, he isn't your daddy or your old boyfriend who will do sub-par work for a sandwich. He has a family to support and has earned every dime he's ever been paid. read more

The service I had with John's started out good. I had them install a replacement drive axle (torn CV boot) that I had purchased from an auto parts store. The next day, they had it in and done before I finished my morning coffee and at a reasonable price, although they tried to sell me a higher priced "super heavy duty" axle before installing the one I purchased. Well, a month or so later, I noticed the same burnt grease/oil smell I had when the CV boot first split open. I took my car in and they found that the transaxle was leaking at the point where the axle (same one they installed) inserts into the transaxle. They wanted to charge me almost $300 to fix a bad seal (which cost $10 at the dealer). I took it to my brother (NOT a certified mechanic) and we pulled the axle out, checked the seal (which was fine) and re-installed the axle. Turns out the axle was never installed correctly to begin with. John's "certified" technicians failed to get the axle clip to seat properly in the the transaxle keeping the outer hub up against the seal, preventing oil from leaking out the transaxle. My brother was amazed that the technicians at John's didn't know better. Further more, I gave John the opportunity to make this right (fix it with little to no charge, like a good business owner would do), but he was more interested in getting another buck out of his customers. It's so hard to find a good mechanic and I will continue my search for one, as this experience has soured me. read more
