Brought a block with parts available to rebuild a motor. I was given a modest estimate by John (the former owner) I agreed. I had $3k in credit for parts ordered but once the work was to be done the estimate jumped to $5k. WTF! Brought to a friend in nampa that has a speed shop that won't pull thr bait and switch. Never again!! Tried to fix issue then (2 years ago) and was told to come down and talk to a couple guys which I did. I took my car in because one headlight was giving me trouble. I had checked the fuse and couldn't reach the actual bulb without removing some stuff in the way that I'm not savvy enough to deal with. When I dropped it off the guy told me that if it was a simple fix, such as a bulb or fuse, then it wouldn't cost the $150 diagnostic charge... So I came back to get it and he told me they just changed the lightbulb. Took their mechanic an hour to change the lightbulb...and they charged me $161 in total! So that was awesome. Couldn't imagine what it would cost for anything else. Will never go back nor recommend. read more

I moved here to Meridian a few years back and had yet to find a good automotive repair facility that does not try to take advantage of me or my wife if she takes a vehicle in by herself. I had a spectacular experience at Meridian Automotive and truly felt I have found a team I trust for my automotive repairs going forward. My wife and I both drive fairly new vehicles and mine has just ended its dealership warranty of 3yr/36,000 miles. I wanted to get a 2nd opinion prior to my warranty expiring so I took the vehicle in for a complete look over. I could not have been happier with the results. My inspection came with a full color detailed report that they both printed and texted me. It even came with photos and descriptions of what those photos were because to be honest I have no idea what I was looking at until I read the description. They ended up catching something the dealership either completely ignored or just simply missed but either way I'm happy to have caught it early. I truly have found my home should I need any future repairs and these guys will even be taking care of the simple things like my oil changes, tires, ect. Then, they called me to let me know how everything went (it cost much less than I thought it would). My daughter told me that the staff was very friendly and accommodating. I took my car in for an alignment and I was told that I couldn't get one because my steering rack and pinion needed to be replaced and my control arms as well. They told me $2400 would "make it road safe" and that my car was "unsafe" to drive. I asked if drive shaft couplers would help any of the "issues" they were saying my car had and they literally laughed and said no way you have to have these other things fixed the couplers will do nothing for you. So my husband who already ordered the couplers looked at my car and didn't see any of the "issues" or "unsafe" parts that they explained to me. So I'm driving today and my car makes a weird noise so my husband looks at it and realizes it the couplers failing and you can see here that these needed to be replaced and I am so furious that I almost spent $2400 to get unnecessary parts replaced and that they told me the couplers weren't needed. When settings an appointment I was told I would be getting an inspection that included such and such. (Of course, over the phone and before you make the appointment they are more than happy to give you false information). I was told my Inspection included a steam power wash to rid some oil. Apparently that wasn't the case. Never less at the end of it all. When I walked in, they took 10-15 minutes Just to find my paper work. Not including the time it took to pay and sign for it. I was told to go wait outside while they find it. I was in need of a tool for my car outside and asked several people in the front if they could help me out. That apparently is against they're bible or system becuz none of them helped me out. Except for a tech that came out of the bathroom. (Which btw provided more customer service and satisfaction then ANYONE in the front desk. And there was a couple of guys up there too. That alone had left a sour taste in my mouth to not come back again, yeah I will tell people about meridian automotive, and how horrible they are, so they won't make the same mistake i did. Thanks, was a fan, stood by it and now it's gone down hill. At this point I would recommend anyone other than this place. read more

If I could give this business zero stars, I would. I had an older car that went thru alternators like they were candy. When we were preparing to move to the Boise area, the alternator went out, and I was basically stranded. Blindly, I went to the first shop I found - this one. I explained that my alternator was on warranty with a national auto-parts chain (and called the local store personally to ensure that there would be no charge). I also knew that this was an easy job - I had watched my preferred mechanic (in our home state) do the job in under 30 minutes. They assured me that the job would be done the next day. The next day, I get my car, and a bill for $600. WHAT? I knew that the alternator would've cost approx. $300, but I had one on warranty, so there shouldn't have been a charge. I got them to drop that, since it was such an obvious overcharge, but could not get them to budge on the $300 in labor...for a 30-minute job. Dealerships don't even charge this much. When I've shared my story word-of-mouth, I hear other people's experiences, and they're very similar. Stay far, far away from this shop - your car and wallet will thank you for it. read more

We have had work done at Meridian Automotive 3 times. Why we keep going back I have no idea. The work they do is fine, but they are very very expensive. One bill was over $1400 The next bill was $400 On the most recent, we took our expedition here because the window not only would not roll up, but completely fell down into the door. We took our expedition here to find out what could be done. We told them to do nothing without calling us 1st. They ignored us! They called and gave us an estimate of over $600 just for the work. We also asked them to look at the handle to the back to find out if they could fix it. Get this, they charged us a diag fee just to look at the handle and tell us it was broken!!!!! So on top of the actual repair is $200 worth of diagnostic work. Even if we look for someone cheaper, we are over a barrel here because they charge the diag fee weather or not we decide to have them do the work. What a rip off!! My advice is to save yourself and find someone else that can work on your cars and truck reasonably read more

Really disappointed. I went here for a few custom things and they did a poor job. They told me they could build me an exhaust system, I towed my car to them and then after delivery, they decided they didn't want to do it. I then paid for a tow truck to Ammerman's custom exhaust where I had a great custom exhaust made. read more

After hearing of my frustration, John, the owner of Meridian Automotive called me last Friday; today we connected on the phone. We spoke for a little bit and he listened to my concern and then apologized for the choice that had been made by the fellow under his employ. He offered to fix the problem, but I told him that his courage and character in reaching out was enough to reconcile the ill feelings I had for the service I had received. He need not take further action. John has earned the right to do business with me again. Mistakes can be made, but the content of one's character trumps any mistake and honor always perseveres. The staff here is dishonest and rude. I brought my car here and they gave me a laundry list of things to fix along with a $1,300 price tag -- took my vehicle to another shop and was out of there all fixed up for $200. It's not just a money issue -- it's dishonesty!! I understand when companies charge more for quality service/parts, but they were just trying to pull one over on me. They claimed I had leaks and was in real bad shape and neither of those things were true. The front desk guy was a complete a-hole when I told him I needed a second opinion. He badgered me and talked down to me like I was an idiot for driving my car over to another shop. It was crazy and disrespectful. Meridian Automotive did the same thing (over price and make false claims about what needed serviced) to my husband and best friend so we will NEVER take our vehicles here again. I will warn as many as I can about their scams and to avoid their business. It is more than a high price tag -- it's dishonesty! read more

I sent my truck in for preventative maintenance and asked to diagnose and treat a transmission issue. They told me the problem was simple and would be fixed with a flush etc....They talked me into getting the "best brakes and rotors" etc...... and I had some cv joints replaced and a tune up.well, now my brakes squeal going forward rather than backwards! Yay! I spend between $6,000-$7,000 (yup) and got the truck back and the the transmission was not fixed. Same problem. Then they wanted to charge me for another Diagnostic test AND another $1600 to replace the solenoid(s) or another $6000 to replace the transmission altogether. The bad diag caused me to make other decisions to buy better parts for things that weren't a huge issue, therefor, using up the budget I was willing to spend. Long story short, I paid $6,500 or so to have my truck run the EXACT same way, and potentially $9,000-$12,000 to A fix it. I have never written a Yelp review in my life, but this experience left such a bad taste in my mouth that I actually feel obligated to. The employees are nice, but that doesn't hold much water when it feels like you've been taken for so much $. Makes me wish I had payed more attention in auto shop class in high school. My advice? Buy a brand new vehicle before you go here. It'll be around the same price with less headaches. If you live paycheck to paycheck, this DEFINITELY is NOT your place. Sorry/not sorry. They don't give a 0 star option, so I'll count the 1 Star towards the people being nice. Whatever. In other words... DON'T COME HERE. Everyone was wonderful to work with! From the very first interaction when I called and spoke to (Beth I think was her name?) on the phone to picking up my pickup at the end. They fit me in the very next day, and their prices were really fair. Everyone in the office was very nice and pleasant, joked around, and were friendly and nice. This place is awful. Probably the worst experience I've ever had working in the automotive service industry. They make you read scripts to people over the phone and in person and are heavy micro managers. They also make you train with a guy who has no clue what the heck he is talking about. Dave you're literally worthless and Jon I hope you've figured out your high turn over is because of Dave and the Micro management style you have. 10/10 would not recommend entering this building for service and if you're looking for a job drive a little further down the road because you'll be treated better. read more

Took my truck in for a ticking noise in the engine that would speed up and slow down as I gave it gas when I got my truck back it wasn't fixed and they charged me over 2,000 so when I called them and told them it was it fixed they said well we fixed a tick and i told them not the one i came in for and there reply was well you can't deny we fixed a tick so the next day I took the truck back to see what the other tick was and they told me I needed a new engine and it was going to cost over 7,000 so I asked if the would credit the 2600 I paid the day before they said no went ahead had it fixed and when I went to pick it up they added more money to my bill for some bolts I was never told about and 40.00 in gas because they said my truck was empty but I dropped off with a half tank and it only cost 50.00 to fill the truck got it back with just under a half tank the new engine cost 4100 including the cor charge of 400 and I didn't get the credit for that on my bill so the charged me the cor charge and now they are going to send it back to jasper motors and get 400.00 from them so they basically took me for over 3000.00 so what ever you do don't take your vehicle to this shop unless you don't mind being ripped off read more

Took my classic car there for a simple oil change, when I picked up my car I noticed my speedometer was no longer working, and the odometer was displaying 0, when I went in to ask them about they said it was like that when it came in and that an oil change would not have done that. However, remember when I said the odometer was reading 0, on the sticker they place on the window it had 3000 miles added to the mileage it had when I came in there (not from 0), they couldn't even be bothered to take a second look at the car to make sure, with this lack of caring why would anyone trust their car (especially a classic car) to these guys, and yes 1 star is way too high for this group, do yourself a favor don't walk RUN from that place read more

When I took my antique car to them, they quoted me $390 to $700. When they were done, they tried to bill me for $1400. I offered to pay the $700. I let them take me to small claims for the $1400. The judge ruled I owed John $700. When I was bringing my car to them, They were talking to a young lady whose car was making a strange noise. They told her $65 to diagnose and possibly replace a noisy belt. Her car was still in the factory warranty. I suggested she take it to the Chevy dealer to get it done for free. John convinced her pay him to do it. I should have taken this treatment as a sign. When my car was finished and I was complaining about the price, a man was picking up his 4x4 pickup. They were trying to charge him $240 to inspect and service his rear differential. The man had already inspected his truck and could tell they had not touched a bolt on his differential and challenged them on that charge. John say, "We'll take that charge off your bill." This shop is a trap for women. They have a reputation for ripping women off. They may do some work right but they will try to bill you for work that was not done or that did not need to be done. John claims to not know who I am but I am using an alias. I stand by what I have posted and can show court documents to back it up. We met before Judge Patricia Young in 2003. read more
