I've been a customer of John's Auto Pros for years whenever my car needed work. This time, it turned out that my water pump and thermostat needed replacing. I was thrilled when they looked at my past service records and saw that these items were still covered under their warranty because they had been replaced a few years ago so there would be no charge. And I do not recall you speaking with me on the phone, her tone was in fact very rude and uncaring, and the lack of apology says all I need about you and your business practice. Also, I didn't ask you to do anything. Maxcare had it sent there when we broke down in the middle of the road. I didn't ask you to do anything and you took your sweet time too given it was the holidays. Your mechanic is the one that enlightened ME that it was under warranty somewhere else and would need to be moved. So yes, you KNOWINGLY did this. Also, what WORK was done? Diagnostics? Your guys did what they do for free at autozone, even the tow driver knew the engine blew that was a given. And yes, you DID hold it hostage, I don't just FEEL that way. Holding someone's property or belongings until you receive payment is exactly that. read more

Over the past ten years I have been coming to this location during all of John Stacey's businesses and franchises from Big O tires to Tire Pros to John's Tire Pros, to John's Auto Pros. Seems like the quality keeps dropping as the business names keep changing. I've had positive experiences with tires and breaks in the past, but not so much now. My last experience here will be my last visit ever. Recently I had been coming here for breaks and oil changes.. Unfortunately it took almost a year before their poor workmanship and lack of care was to be revealed. As Lea E has mentioned in her review, I too had my wheel lock wasn't returned to me. Of course that wasn't discovered until I needed my key the most. Fortunately Discount Tire broke my old locked lug nuts for free.. That was strike one. The most egregious error wouldn't to be revealed till I went to get a full synth oil change at Valvoline. I was actually going to use John's Auto/John's Tire Pros again but when I inquired about a price for an alignment and a full synth oil change their price quote was way too high this time.. Anyway, so I went to Valvoline across the street. Valvoline promptly notified me that the previous people that did my oil change (John's Tire Pros/John's Auto Pros) over torqued the oil pan plug and basically broke the threading. Valvoline, free of charge, used a temporary plug and gave me the broken plug with broken threading. They told me to go back to John's and have them try and repair it. Because it has been so long since I had John's do my full synth oil, I felt trying to explain their error and getting these guys to take responsibility probably was a long shot at best and would have really pissed me off even more. Plus, I needed a legitimate mechanic to repair the threading..I would never trust these guys to do anything more than tires or breaks.. So I went to my trusted auto mechanic to re-thread my oil pan. Unfortunately when I gave him the plug and after his visual inspection of the pan he regrettably told me that it was beyond repair and a new pan had to be installed (close to $600 for my car). The root cause was that the person that did my oil change probably used a tool they shouldn't have and completely over torqued it.. Needless to say the break guy at John's shouldn't be doing oil changes.. Conclusion, I've never had a bad break job at Big O, or Tire Pros. But these latest version of the business has lost me as a customer forever. Word to the wise, don't let a tire or break shop do an oil change.. THIS IS A: Tale of two different tire shops. I have been going to this shop for many years off & on. Back when they were Ron's tire pro's a franchise store (I believe). I STILL GO TO THE ONE IN FORT MOHAVE AZ WHEN I NEED TIRES (they are great). At a point the owner in Escondido (this store) changed names told me he was tired of paying the fee's for the name. They have gone down hill steady from that point. The sign says family owned and I believe it. (junkie old race cars take up a lot of stall spaces and lifts) Plus, they are not very service friendly. I have had that feel every time I went in. Today was the worst yet. I went in around about 9:30 am and dropped a tire and wheel with a leak for repair. I made sure they had my name and phone number in their computer list. I told them I would be back for it in the afternoon. Around 2:30 pm I returned after a busy morning expecting to pickup the repaired tire (they had not called me for any reason). I walked in and they told me they had found the leak and said they could fix it for $35.00 and it would take 25 mins. I told them I thought it was ready already and I was very busy trying to fit my things in my day. The owner said they did not get the flat! Do I want it fixed or not. The guy that took the job in admitted he had not called me and had no reason for it (my guess is he's their adult kid). The owner and I think his wife. Were kinda pushing me out of the back of the shop after they lead me there to look at the tire. So I said I guess go ahead and fix it. Then I walked in the office and the owner told me have a seat it will be 45 mins or so. I said What (now the times are getting longer yet)? I don't have all day for this. He said well you can just take it now. I said OK. Then he added "I don't want you here anyway". I said "Really" I guess that makes two of us. Next I drove over to Discount Tire at 550 N. Broadway Escondido CA. Walked in. They gave me a written max time of 40 mins to wait because I was in line. They did the job. THEN I GOT THE SHOCK OF MY LIFE WHEN THERE WAS ZERO CHARGE! WHEN I ASKED WHY THEY SAID THATS WHAT THEY DO ON A REPAIR. I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT AND STILL DON'T. I did not buy the tires from them and they knew it. I DON'T KNOW HOW EITHER COMPANY MAKES MONEY. BUT IT's CLEAR WHO IS TRYING TO STAY IN BUSINESS WITH GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WHO IS WORKING THEIR WAY DOWN THE DRAIN. To sum it up I will never go near JOHN's Tire Pro again. They suck! Discount Tire in Escondido shines! Thats my thoughts! 1 Star is the lowest I could give them! read more

My car, a Honda 2010 Civic with quite some miles on it, was shaking like crazy as the engine mounts were broken for a while, so I slowly started buying the engine mounts as I wanted to buy OEM or good quality ones, but then, a problem started, looking for a mechanic or repair shop that wanted to do the job. A lot of mechanics and repair shops didn't want to use them; they wanted me to buy the parts through them or were giving me irrational quotes when I reached John, he had no problem using the parts I had purchased before as long as they were new, and the cost of labor was really fair for the job to be done. My car is finally smooth like new, and they did a full checkup, bringing to my attention some other points to take care of. I am really happy, and they just got another loyal customer! read more

Took my car in because the engine light came on and it posted an EGR code that indicated one of 3 parts might need replacement. I'd replaced the one that usually causes the failure and it hadn't fixed it. Asked John's to do diagnostics (smoke test) and determine which part was bad. They claimed they did it - and identified one of the 3 parts as being defective - the one I'd already replaced. The kicker is that on the receipt where they charged me a ton of money to 'test' the car and determine the problem, they also recommended replacing the other two parts that could cause the code, and quoted me a ton of money to do the repair. Had I allowed them to do what they recommended, they would have not only charged me for the diagnostic, but replaced EVERY part of the EGR system that might cause the issue. That's not diagnostics... that's using a sledgehammer. I took it somewhere else - they told me I simply hadn't cleared the code; they cleared it (for free!) and 300 miles later the car (in the same condition with the same parts as when I took it to John's) still has no code, no check engine light. The part John's identified as defective - the one I'd already replaced - had fixed the issue. John's missed that - because I believe they didn't even look at the car - they just listed ALL the issues that might cause the code. I'm SO glad I didn't pay them to fix it - and wish I hadn't paid them $150 to test it. They charged me for diagnostics that didn't diagnose the issue, and they quoted an astonishing amount of money to fix something that was... already fixed. Stay away. read more

I had my Jeep Renegade in his shop. Quality work. Just recently I was struggling with hood locks for my newer Jeep Wrangler. John was spot on. The part I ordered didn't fit my type of custom grill. I headed to the Jeep dealer. They ordered the wrong part or same. Okay they took it back. The grill lock doesn't work on my Jeep. Next order 2 hood locks... the ones that come with the Jeep aren't secure. I like my engine. I don't want the newly encouraged thrives to take my parts! Lock it! In 2 days I will get my hood locks not grill. I ordered stainless steel locking replacements. I can install. But Johns is a cool place. I will have them work on my new Jeep. read more

I took my car here to have two outer tie rods replaced which Firestone said I needed. Turns out the tie rods were fine. It was the axle that needed to be fix. I received great customer service. Took my truck because when driving it it will always pull to the right so I brought it so I can be aligned. When the lady took us to test drive we clearly saw that it pulled to the right but she kept insisting it didn't but we kept seeing her pull the steering wheel to the left but wanted it to be unnoticed. She clearly didn't want to work on the truck but at the end it was worked on and the mechanics where very friendly and when I asked them that if they agreed that there was something wrong with the alignment they agreed with me. read more

This motherfucker charge me $560 and told me that something could not be done then I didn't myself in my driveway 100% repaired and then when I went back before I fixed it myself for a bolt that fell out that he put in and to tell me exactly what I told his technician what was wrong Because I knew that there was a crack in my downpipe I simply asked what could be the cause of it he try to charge me $147 for that when I told him what was wrong then I would fix it I just wanted to know what could be causing it... I was able to do what he said he could not be done in my driveway with never doing it before and so well to the point that the threading for my exhaust headers is so strong that I cannot physically turn it anymore tighter.. He tried telling me that he had to remove my entire engine block takeoff my two heads and send them always the same company to repair to send them all way back to his shop to reasonable my engine and then reinstall it and then he can install my headers!!! I did it with helicoils no problem first Try!!!! read more

Toyota Lexus charged $1400 to troubleshoot and try to get my codes and check engine light fixed. No bueno. I took it to John's to fix what the Lexus dealer had suggested. They did the work, but still have my check engine light on. We discussed next steps, John says he will get it done, get it fixed. My wife will drop it off after Thanksgiving weekend. I've been to to shop three times now for three expensive repairs (over $500) on my older car. They actually took me out into the bay and showed me each time what was wrong. They explained which parts were damaged and needed to be replaced and which parts were fine. Every time after it was fixed, my car stopped doing whatever it was doing that brought me to the shop to begin with. I believe they correctly diagnosed my car each time and did only the repairs necessary. Also, I live out in valley center. Each time my car has been repaired, they have offered me courtesy rides to and from my house. I did not have to ask, it was offered to me.
