I would rate Escondido German Auto more than (5) stars!!!! I've been taking my car to the same Porsche dealership, where I bought it, for all of its maintenance services in the past 10 years. I knew I was paying more because I thought I was getting the best service and care for my car. I was wrong. A couple of weeks ago, my Boxster needed a clutch/flywheel replacement so I had it towed to the Porsche dealership for repair. (The clutch would not engage.) Porsche quoted me a ridiculous amount; 60% more than what they initially quoted me a few months prior when my transmission was just beginning to act up. I stopped by Escondido German Auto for a second opinion. (I've read about their excellent reviews on Yelp.) Austin, the service advisor, provided me his best guess of the possible issues, without seeing my car, based on what I described to him about my car's behavior. He sounded credible and was very professional, and he also gave me a more reasonable estimated quote. I was also very impressed by their clean, open service bays. I took a chance and had my car towed from the Porsche dealership to Escondido German Auto. Escondido German Auto did a thorough inspection and a detailed breakdown of the proposed work on my car; way better job than the Porsche dealership ever did. They also discovered a rodent nest and damage to the wiring harness of my car that the Porsche dealership missed. Brandon, the technician, did an outstanding job repairing my clutch/flywheel, documenting (including photos) the rodent issues for my car insurance claim, and cleaning and fixing the rodent damage. Austin, on the other hand, updated me daily regarding the work progress. He was always accessible via email, text, and phone. The job was completed in a timely manner; within a few days of bringing my car in. They even cleaned my car prior to returning it to me. Additionally, they emailed me a copy of my CARFAX report a few days later; unexpectedly. (That was the first time I've seen a CARFAX report of my car.) Overall, I am 100% satisfied with my experience with Escondido German Auto! Customer service, quality of work, professionalism, trustworthiness, and price are unmatched!! They've definitely earned my business and I will no longer be taking my car to the Porsche dealership. My Boxster now runs, sounds, and feels like a new car again, and I can't help but grin each time I get behind the wheel; thanks to Austin and Brandon! They were awesome! Everything went well, thank you. Austin sent me a text, reminding me that I was due for an oil change. We set an appointment by text. So easy! I work evenings, so I needed a morning appt. No problem. I arrived early and EGA started right in. I decided to wait, rather than get a shuttle home, which I've used before. I had my morning coffee, supplied by EGA , settled in, and watched a video on my iPad. Within 90-min, my car was done and washed. Austin noted a couple of things they noticed to keep an eye on. Our two Porsches are no longer new in terms of years and mileage and we were growing tired of paying dealership prices for servicing. Looked at the reviews for independent Porsche service reasonably close to us and liked what we read for EGA. I also felt good about the conversations I had with the front office when I was discussing services and scheduling. We had a regular oil change on the first car that went well and took the second car in for regular service and rear-brake replacement (which also revealed a leaking CV boot that led to the replacement of one of the axles). There were several problems with a 718 Cayman GTS I recently purchased. The primary one being none of the sport functions on the steering wheel or center console were working. EGA managed to figure out a couple of different issues and repair them. I was impressed they were able to accurately diagnose this issue. They also found and repaired an oil leak on the turbo and replaced two struts. Overall I thought they did a great job identifying and fixing multiple different issues. Their prices were a bit lower than some other shops I talked to and they really seemed like they knew what they were doing. Only time will tell if these repairs will eliminate the problems but as of now I would recommend them and would take my car back to them in the future. My stupid, lovably fun car (a BMW 330i that's old enough to buy you a beer) has a Service Engine soon light that's more stubborn than a tree strump and more dogged than... um, a dog chasing after a tennis ball. I used to think my little indie German auto shop in LA was tops, but they could never figure out what kept the "Service Engine Soon" light from coming on, even after replacing half the drive train (I'm guesstimating, but it's not far off), sensors, cooling system, and a dozen other things over the years. Nor could BMW of Beverly Hills, nor BMW of Encinitas. It took Escondido German Auto some time, but their expert on BMWs old enough to be college juniors was do determined, he kept the car for an extra week (which I didn't mind -- the shop has courtesy cars), taking it on multiple test drives to see how the SES light would go away... only to come back on a few days later... and finally determined the car's fuel trim readings would go out of wack after awhile and throw "too lean" faults. He then fixed it. He bloody FIXED it! You guys, I have been driving with this forsaken light coming on randomly for years. YEARS. With *multiple shops and multiple mechanics* who started out eagerly stroking their chins like "oh, this seems like a fun puzzle to solve" only to end up with wan faces and looks of exhausted, utter defeat. I think my car even broke the soul of a mechanic in LA when he couldn't find the problem. I'd come back 3 days after servicing my car, tell him the SES light was back, and he'd look at me like he was reconsidering every life decision he'd made that led him to that point in time. But some GOD of a man at EGA fixed it! I still can't believe I'm typing those words. Lastly, Erica and Austin at the front desk are, like, rock stars of service. Friendly, professional, communicative, funny... genuinely a pleasure to interact with. This is a gem of a shop. read more

The two things I value most in a new shop is quality work and communication. Escondido German Auto performed both spectacularly. I couldn't be more impressed with the work they performed on my 2004 Porsche Boxster S. I brought my car in to get a leak fixed, not exactly sure whether it was coming from the engine or transmission. The job was more work than originally expected, so I deferred some other maintenance items so the leak could get fixed right the first time. My thanks go out to the mechanics that did the work and hats off to Erica for keeping me informed every step along the way! Unfortunately for them, good work usually gets rewarded with more work. Not a fan of their policies of quoting repair costs. It is their business and they can do as they please, but it may cost them customers, me included. Short story: My vehicle was diagnosed at another repair facility. The repairs are straightforward, yet expensive. It's not rocket science to provide a quote/estimate given the clear details I provided. Escondido German Auto wants a $189 diagnosis fee up front, which I can understand if there is no idea of the needed repair(s). This isn't the case in my situation; I know exactly what is needed. Two other shops on YELP were able to provide me a quote based on my detailed information. I went with one of them. read more
