I hate writing negative reviews and I really wanted to like John's. Unfortunately, the food was not good. I ordered a salad and a pizza, and wasn't able to finish either of them. Pizza was soggy (so disappointing). After one slice, I just ripped the crust off of the rest of the pizza and ate that only. 2 stars for nice customer service and it looked like the vegetables were fresh. Now you don't even have to drive to the shore for deep fried Oreos! Hellz yeah! John's is a small corner restaurant with a pretty extensive Italian menu in the middle of an Elizabeth "neighborhood" (I use that term loosely). I hear the pizza is good but I haven't tried it. The Oreos were delish--deep fried in the oil they use for other food, so you've got a perfect mixture of cakey, sweet cookie and salty, greasy dough. I mean, come on. I always usually LOVE there food! There cheesesteaks are 5+stars ...but today...in so upset. I ordered cheese ravioli wit codka sauce the ravioli is ehh ok but the sauce was TERRIBLE. IT TASTED LIKE I BOUGHT CHEF BOY R DE FROM A CAN ravioli in sauce it was disgusting!! I guess cheesesteaks fries n sandwiches are sll that i can buy here N inwas guna order a fancy italian restaurants ravioli but i said nah las time i got here i loved the cheesesteak but NOWAY. This was one of the few places offering delivery to the hotel I was staying at. I ordered a calzone which was reasonably priced and generously portioned. The food arrived even sooner than was estimated and was fresh and hot. I would definitely recommend if you want some yummy delivery and are staying in the area of the airport. read more

I was staying at a hotel near Newark Airport. The delivery was great with extras like forks, knives, napkins, two salad dressings, etc. Delivery showed up when they predicted and the delivery man was nice. He followed my instructions with regard to having the front desk call my room and me picking up the food there (hotel safety 101) although the delivery man had my cell phone number from online ordering. I was craving penne alla vodka. The menu said peas and prosciutto would be cooked into the pasta sauce. The reason for the three stars is because there were no peas or prosciutto. I was very disappointed. The sauce was ok. The garlic bread was very good. I also ordered a salad (basic) and added mozzarella and avocado. The salad had a fair amount of mozzarella, but limited avocado. I am a HUGE fan of avocado on a salad - four small slices when you are being charged extra was not sufficient for me. Overall, I would say there were some great things and not so great things about my delivery dining experience. I will say, I did not go to bed hungry as the portions are pretty big. read more

First, I would like to start by saying we have been loyal customers ordering from our workplace at the hospital at least twice weekly for many years. I am so absolutely abysmally disgusted by the customer service experience at this restaurant. We have never ever ever ever ever ever been so rudely disrespected by this abomination of an establishment. I really do not understand how someone can be so rude and disrespectful. Telling customers they can never order again?? When we called to tell them that the salad we ordered was not fresh that day and to substitute for another order, we were berated and said "I would disagree with you because the lettuce is just fine." He then proceeded to say " we will make sure you never order a salad when you call again." All that we wanted was an exchange and instead we received these words, then when a different coworker called to order again, they said we are never allowed to order from this number??!! This is the number of a hospital with thousands of employees . You're going to ban a whole hospital from ordering? These are front line workers who were once hailed heroes, now treated like garbage by the owner of this restaurant. I am happy to tell all of the hospital employees, all of Elizabeth and all of NJ to never give business to this place again. I hope you all maintain your human dignity and refuse to eat or speak to these people. I would recommend you go to Eli's, Bella's or piezano and stay far far away from this place. We eat here almost everyday for lunch. Their personal pie is the perfect size and always cooked perfect. I also change it up sometimes and get the chicken cutlet sandwich, which you can't go wrong with that one. On our way to Princeton, NJ from Long Island my husband and I wanted to stop for some dinner. We pulled up yelp and John's caffe was one of the first things to come up. Didn't even have time to read the reviews as we had to quickly get off the exit, but we were pleasantly surprised with the caffe. We split a meat lover's slice of pizza, which was superb. Then split a bowl of Italian wedding soup (my husbands choice, I didn't expect to like it) but it was really rich and enjoyable. Husband would've liked it better if there was some butter to go with the roll served next to soup. Then the fat yokey sandwich (grilled chicken with grilled zucchini, fresh mozzarella + pesto mayo) with sweet potato fries. The sandwich was less than exciting, not much cheese and seemed to be straight up pesto (no mayo). After adding some pepper flakes to spice it up, it was better. Our first round of sweet potato fries were cold but they quickly swapped them out for a fresh serving. When paired with the chipotle mayo, they were perfect. We thought overall the food was great, people friendly + a great value. However, I must mention that the sweet young girl working up front was responsible for ringing up orders, taking the money and grabbing slices of pizza to take to the ovens in the back, which she did with her fingers. A pair of tongs to grab the pizza instead of the fingers which have just touched all sorts of things would do a lot of good. Best wishes and good vibes to this family owned business. read more

I am a regular here. From the chicken noodle soup to the classic pepperoni pizza, they nailed everything. Their soups and salads are better than most. I have tried their lasagna, broccoli and cheese bites , their pizza , which were all very good , but the chicken chipotle wrap is by far one of the best wraps I've ever had . Definitely not the best spot. Service was decent but my food was refrigerator cold the first time I got it. They happily gave me a new plate and it was hot, but it was pretty clear both had been microwaved. Sandwich was haphazardly put together, greasy, and gave me some serious heart burn.
